  • After not being able to melt copper with my weedburner I invested in the Cast Master GG-5000 Profane Furnace and set out to melt some copper. If you see something that I'm doing wrong please let me know. But wanted to share my experiment.

Cool video. I like how you put the metal on snow to cool it.

I bought the same one but it came with a 5 kg crucible. It works great and the insulation was a lot better then what you got. If you set the gauge at 1.5 and give it more oxygen, it will work a lot better for you.

And as for the foundry I’m not happy with it should be better hotter faster for aluminum it will be better but copper is a different animal

The price seems great until I seen the way they crammed the random pieces of insulation inside.

if you wish to both increase efficiency, use less fuel, and lessen the risk of ceramic fiber inhalation, you can take some refractory cement and coat it directly on that.

ive been toying with the idea of building or buy a foundry ....im curious as to what you would do with the stock you have melted ...reheat and make a mold ? save space in a garage to turn in to scrap yard?....seen you went through the hassle of stripping all insulation off....if your scrapping i think its a waste of money on propane and time.....but i did enjoy the video...and ill subscribe....good work have fun and most of all Safe.

10 out of 10 for trying to make it work dude i would have sent it back the moment it came out of the box the burner is to much for the little furnace you had more flame outside then in it was like sticking a380 engines on a 737 lol

It looks like you're just not getting enough oxygen to get a good blue jet from your nozzle. That seemed to be demonstrated when you added the hair dryer to increase the oxygen supply to the burner. Dad used compressed air to force more oxygen into his burner. Looks like you're headed in the right direction.

Lol I was so expecting a 4th box inside the 3rd box and eventually a foundry the size of a soup can

Hi Matt, I don’t know much about foundries and forging, and maybe it’s just the camera, but that burner doesn’t look right at the end of the video... There shouldn’t be that much “yellow” flame should there?

Looks like your burner wants more air. Even when you added the hair dryer it was still running pretty rich. Keep adding more air until all the flames shooting out the vent retreat back just inside the furnace, and that should be pretty much a neutral burn. Just a little flame coming up out the vent (just slightly rich) is probably a good tuning setup for melting copper, but more than just 'slightly' and you're wasting heat. Hope that helps, good luck!

What he said ^^^^ :) Satanite will work for coating the furnace. (A foundry is the place you keep the furnace. ;) ) There's a link in the description to where you can obtain the satanite.... ruclips.net/video/Vi_OnuJKeN0/видео.html

if would have bought 6 or so fire bricks or just the refractory insulation and made a little dome cave the weed burner would have done the job if changed the nozzle its all about air to gas mix and containing the heat

  • @jerrykingsley6703
    @jerrykingsley6703 5 лет назад

at the end of the video, it seems like, you didn't even open the burner? its been over 5 months so I hope you figured it out, but there's 2 parts to that burner. one is the screw. you turn it counter clockwise to create a larger gap for the silver circular piece to maneuver (the piece between the wing nut/screw you are turning, and the black part of the burner itself. try counter clock wise 'ing the wing nut out a good half in, 3 quarter in. then. open your gas hose allowing propane to fill the furnace. turn your propane tank on. ignite furnace. youll have a large flame without the deep humming. at that point, start turning the circle piece counter clockwise, moving it closer to the wingnut and farther from the burner. that is your air intake. moving the silver circle piece. when you turned the wingnut to the right, everything cut out and you had to relight because you secured the air intake shut when the wingnut is all the way clockwise. not sure if you live in the u.s., but you are using a piece of equipment from Europe it seems (mpa for propane)

I had that valve all the way open and added a hairdryer for extra air and still didn’t get hot enough my new burner change everything much better design now I need a new furnace my original one is crumbling I’m going to do firebricks I think thanks for the help but this thing just isn’t worth the effort or money to try to get working

  • @giggidygiggidy4884

I never saw you open the vent wide enough to get enough air in, that back vent should be open way wider than you’re getting it. Also, you’re using a Venturi burner, it needs to be able to circulate inside the furnace around your crucible. Your crucible being almost as large as the furnace isn’t allowing the Venturi effect. The flame needs to go around and if it’s not you’ll never get the heat, you need a bigger furnace or a smaller crucible to allow the flame to flow around it.

i had that value off with a hair dryer blowing down the end. but one of the issues I was battling in the background was my propane tank was freezing and the pressure kept dropping so I tried to fix that problem in my last vid and it helped. a larger tank might be coming soon also. but bottom line its not an open-light-melt-copper kind of kit aluminum no problem not copper not without modifications Thanks for watching

Hey just wanted to let you know I have that same forge you got. Those are actually from devil forge and if you order from devil forge themselves you can have saved a lot more money likely. I have the same forge at my house and it comes in ALOT better condition then that one. Google devil forge and you should find their page. It takes a couple weeks to get out to you but it is honestly cheaper then amazon and normally in a better condition. Also on the note of the burner there. It needs to be opened up to about 80 percent to get the nice blue jet flame

blackcatv1 hey thanks for the info and actually I looked into DF and they are more $ and the time for shipping was one of my issues. Plus a product review go or bad is still a review if you 😉 know what I’m saying. As both a hobbyist and a serious tuber investing some money is necessary IMO been trying to keep it low budget/DIY but sometimes you have to throw some cash at a problem to solve but thanks for the advise I’ve been doing some homework on this end so I have more success at the end of my experiments
      Thanks for watching

Inside The Mind Of Matt huh from my experience DF was the cheaper option. I looked at other forges on amazon and they were always 300 dollar price range when it come to these size forges. But if you got a better deal then that is awesome man. Also if you got any advice to keep my crucible from sticking to the firebrick when it cools down that would be great. Every time I have finished casting and let it cool overnight I come back the next morning to see it stuck and I have to knock them apart

too much gas, not enough air, and close the lid of the furnace as tight as possible.
its got nothing to do with the crucible size, its just a matter of reaching the needed temperature, which you didn't because of a too rich flame, and not maintaining the temp inside the furnace.

1st there is no regulator gauge, 2nd there is
no cutoff at the input side of the hose. There is no plumber pipe tape,
instead u get a little rubber gasket. Do make sure to spray soapy water
to check for leaks, had to buy new clamps and hose because the supplied
clamps leaked and could not be sealed. This is not my first rodeo and
even with a heat detecting temperature probe, in calm air, in the shade,
empty crucible, it was impossible to stabilize the temperature of this
thing. Will work for melting aluminum cans but not sure if I trust it to
work on anything else. Next time I will just make one from the many DIY
vids on the net. If your first time and you are lazy buy this thing.
