  • My son and I just bought the Cast Masters GG PRO 5000 SS furnace and we melted some stuff. I think the product is great and I am looking forward to incorporating it into my work.
This is our first video and we are trying to find our style; if you have any questions just ask below and I will answer the best I can.
The version I bought was from Amazon

I have the exact same setup, I got it as a gift to get started, and like you said it had everything you need to get started but propane :-) I have melted about 95lbs of aluminum, 10lbs of copper and 60oz of gold. I recently replaced the fiber wool inside with a slightly higher grade wool. (it did not really need it) but i went ahead and did it to help preserve the integrity of the body. and keep those temperatures high. It is a big hungry on fuel, but overall for a starter wanting to get into the hobby its great, lightweight easy to clean and store.

I see a few comments of people saying they were having starting problems. The nozzle that screws into the chassis base has a washer at the back that you can spin to adjust air intake. on your first burn dont open the gas all the way up. start with very little enough to get it lit and let it run for a few minutes before you bring the gas flow up some then using that washer on the back of the nozzle slightly OPEN it up to bring in more air. The reason you want to run it for a bit at a lower temp is to cure it and just make sure there is not residule moisture... same with your crucible "season it" by running it on low temps and letting it heat up for a bit before you bring it to full burn. (this helps avoid cracking and or other hazards, you want to also be careful where you sit your crucible when you are ready to pour, moisture of any kind in concrete or stone block with those temps can cause the bricks to explode...

Great video! I have one on it's way to my house. I have one that I made, but I wanted a Smaller one to melt copper.

Believe this video, but do not expect to get what is featured in this video. Now what u get is 1st there is no regulator gauge, 2nd there is
no cutoff at the input side of the hose. There is no plumber pipe tape,
instead u get a little rubber gasket. Do make sure to spray soapy water
to check for leaks, had to buy new clamps and hose because the supplied
clamps leaked and could not be sealed. This is not my first rodeo and
even with a heat detecting temperature probe, in calm air, in the shade,
empty crucible, it was impossible to stabilize the temperature of this
thing. Will work for melting aluminum cans but not sure if I trust it to
work on anything else. Next time I will just make one from the many DIY
vids on the net. If your first time and you are lazy buy this thing but
do not believe what you will get now is in this video.

You can see the regulator, there was Teflon tape, I didn’t need to replace anything, I had no leaks... because you can’t do something or something was missing from your kit doesn’t make me a liar.

Sorry, never meant to offend. Have edited my initial post, ok? I just purchased this thing and I am posting what I received in the box that it came in. I am posting what you can expect to get when you buy this thing now. I am not calling you a liar I am however warning others who want to buy this thing what they can expect to get. Peace, be well, stay safe and prosper. Also the white plumbers tape is not safe, buy and use the yellow tape, it is made to use with gases while the white tape is made to use with water and gas will erode it and make it leak.

J mac mine was the same way and copper doesn’t melt very good. The hose was faulty i had to buy another one. There was no hinge on the lid. Maybe get a devil forge which seems to work better.

How many burn cycles do you think you can get out of this until the refractory materials start breaking down? I’d like to get into smelting but just trying to figure if the upfront and maintenance costs will justify the investment.

I don’t know- I don’t use this that often and I’ve already had the tile that sits on the bottom break. The “wool” is still holding up, though.

I'm having the same problems you had in the beginning with just getting a big tall flame but not getting that hot blue jet flame. I can't find any vids showing how that's done. You did a cut and when you came back it was working ok, how did u get it to work right, great vid by the way.

    • @ninefingerwoodshop5864

I finally got it to work- I had to adjust the pressure at the regulator and make sure the air vent was opened on the part that goes into the furnace.

@@ninefingerwoodshop5864 Hello, sorry, could you be a little more specific for me? I bought my oven today and I have this problem of violent flames but they don't get hot enough. When I increase the air intake, it is as if the flame goes out. How do I know how much air or oxygen to let in? shouldn't propane input be maxed out?

@@caecita5910 you have to get the pressure correct, too. I am not an expert at it but I was able to find some great resources on RUclips.

Do you guys have a gauge at your regulator to see what pressure you have coming off the propane tank going to the burner?

    • @u2ooberboober
      @u2ooberboober 2 года назад

There has to be a regulator on the propane tank to adjust pressure. Start off at around 20 psi and adjust air vent to get a hot flame. Move pressure up and again open air vent up to get a hot flame. See what the max flame you can achieve with wide open vent and by adjusting pressure. With a good flame the temp inside the furnace should rise quite high because of the insulation. A nice neutral hot flame is what your after so that the crucible surfaces don’t burn from an oxidizing flame. Its a good idea to have a pyrometer handy as well.
