    One thing they skipped in the video was applying the refractory cement onto the ceramic wool. It keeps the wool fibers from burning and flying into the air where they will be breathing them in. Ceramic wool is a pretty bad carcinogen

    I have made my own furnace with 70mm thick 1600c cement & used an old ss 18 gallon beer keg as the housing & bought the torch burner from these people , I got the one with the air injection included in the end of the burner, haven't used it for melting yet as still drying the cement but had it to 600c today a couple of times & in a week or so should be able to start casting....Wish I had just bought a furnace from these people as a lot less hassle, am sure their products are world class by the number of happy customers they have.

    The fumes from melting brass are especially dangerous. The zinc in the alloy can give you "metal fume fever". just do metal casting in open air outdoors. A great video though. I was thinking of building a foundry but the materials cost is just too much; especially for kaowool or good firebrick. this foundry looks like a good one to get

    This is the second video about a devils forge product that uses kaowool. You have to coat that with refractory cement or at a minimum rigidizer. Failure to do so you are just creating known cancer causing fumes. Is there no paperwork letting you know this in the box? Brought this up when you did the forge as well. Kaowool fumes can be toxic. You should really warn viewers if you are going to do a product review.

    devil forge do two very similar forges, the FB2M and FB2MB, the difference (besides $150+ price difference) seems to be that the FB2M has a refactory coating factory applied, and the FB2MB the ceramic blanket. Most the other reviews are of the refactory one, but yours seems the FB2MB, so curious to see if you got rigidizer powder, brush and user manual as per the current ebay ad's for them as you made no mention of applying this.

    • @jefflyon100
      @jefflyon100 2 года назад

      It will melt any non ferrous metal. Gold, silver, bronze, copper, nickel silver etc. If your doing precious metals like gold, under about 4 ounces at a time your better off with a torch and silica crucible melt using borax to keep oxygen out. Pour into graphite mold. Electric and propane like this one for larger melts. Start with cheaper metals until you get a nice clean billet. You really need to practice, a neutral or slightly reducing flame and borax is needed or you end up with an ugly ingot full of bubble like defects. Oxygem can make the metal brittle and unusable. You see so many of these type furnaces producing nasty unusable ingots thst can't be further used to make anything.

    pretty cool stuff. Should have cast the whole tooth though! i guess I was lucky in school, we had a furnace in our shop class. One of our projects was casting an item from aluminum with sand molds and then finishing/polishing. I still remember casting a small dish in the shape of a foot. Today you couldn't call it was, but it was an ashtray LOL! I have to admit, we had one hell of a shop class. To give you an idea of how things have changed, for the machining segment of class, I took in a shotgun barrel and machined it for accepting screw in chokes as they were coming into the market at the time. Imagine walking into school with a gun barrel today? LOLO!!! ~ That was the good old days when we weren't shooting each other all over the place, bout 1979.
