(FRI 5:30-8:30 PM) The presentation enlightened me with the essential roles of assessment for the attainment of quality learning. I realized, after listening from the discussion, that assessment really has a great contribution in ensuring that students are truly learning. Assessment is at the core of the educative process. The four roles of assessment signify the interconnectedness or their relationships in teaching and learning. I realized that when implemented religiously, the four roles of assessment can definitely improve learning as this manifests the sincerity of teachers in making sure that students are not left behind and that their capabilities are being considered. The formative role of assessment inspired me most because it clearly defines the concern of the teacher towards the students. This is an integral aspect that shed light to my understanding because it manifests the love for teaching when teachers are not just concerned in grading students but also pushing towards the edge to ensure that every student is learning meaningfully.
Rendoque,Maeryl Jade S. ED 305 Sec. F (TTH 8:30-10:00am) After watching the video, I learned a lot about the roles of assessment and it's significance. I learned that Assessment is the measurement of learning acquired. If there is no assessment, there is no proof of learning. If there is no learning happening then the entire effort of providing learning is futile and it should be stopped. Assessments goes hand in hand with feedback. Feedback helps a learner to understand the gap areas and to make more effort to fill up the gap area. Assessment also helps to determine the direction of learning. As a future educator, this presentation help and gives me more knowledge and understanding that assessment in learning determine students learning needs, monitor thier progress and examine thier performance against identified student learning outcomes. Its implemented in different phases of instructions such as Before(Pre-assessment), During( Formative assessment), After Instruction(Summative assessment). I realized that Assessment provide information to be used to modify the teaching and learning activities in which they engage. This means that as a future teacher I really need to study assessment because assessment data direct teaching in order to meet the needs of the students. Thank you and God bless us all.
Name: Badal, Christine May Y. Time and Section: 5:30-8:30 pm Friday ( ED 302 Sec. I ) Video 2b). Summary : This informative video presentation will tend to enlighten us what is the true purpose of assessment and why it is a very vital part of once learning. I had learned the different role of assessment first is the placement role which is to determine that the instructional sequence of assessment is being carefully followed to be have the best result. Second is the formative role in which you can monitor and adjust your assessment methods that best fits your students and lastly is the summative role in which you as an assessor evaluates your student. This following roles will guide us to have a better way to know if knowledge is being obtain by your student during the learning process. And besides it will enable you to see your mistakes and make you improve to become a better assessor. Reflection: After watching the video I now understand why my previous teachers keeps on giving pre-test and keep on asking before the lesson ends if we have some questions. Before I find it useless and just a waste of time. I now understand that they are just trying to make us a huge favor to give us the best learning experience possible. I can now see the value of those kinds of activity. This had given me an idea on how serious and had to be an educator because not all students have same sets of knowledge. Therefore we must take our role as a student in taking this simple task and give thanks to them for doing such effort.
BARREDO, MARIE THERESE R. ED 305 H (5:30-8:30 PM) M After watching the video, it helped me strengthen what I know about assessment and evaluation. I learned that assessment does not only focus on the output or the grades brought about by the performances of the students but on how far and how much they have learned from the lesson. Assessment and evaluation are necessary to track Students performance. It is also an indicator whether the program or curriculum have been effectively implemented. As a future educator, I also came to realize that to be an effective educator it is important to discover different teaching strategies.
PONTONILA, ANGEL LOU S. TTH- 1:00-2:30 PM. After watching the video i realized the importance of assessment in measuring the learnings of the students. It is very important for the teachers to assess his/her students in order to know the weaknesses and strengths points of the students. Most especially, during this time of pandemic where teachers can not personallt assess the students. Assessing students learning is essential because unlike the face-to-face classes, wherein the teacher can see his/her students learning.
Name: Mira, Neil Dominic F. Time& Sec.: 5:30-8:30 PM ( ED 302-SEC I ) Video 2b) Summary As far as I am concerned I absolutely believe that the general concept of the role of assessment in making instructional decisions serves an important role upon the intricate parts of every academic processes and for further development. It also includes various categorical proportions in terms of addressing certain arrangement towards the underlying factors that would absolutely affect the understanding of every student namely: those placement, diagnostic, formative and summative evaluation that is to say have been used to determine the said assessment. One of the many things that I really learned about this instructional and detailed video is the fact that we really need to exercise a certain procedure in order to determine whether that current application is effective or not. The presence of the 3 theoretical perspectives stated by (Brown, 2018) must be respectfully acknowledged at all cost all throughout, the particular reason for the circumstance is to test the prior knowledge which is under the pre-instruction, the students progress which is during the instruction and lastly the students mastery that would address the intricate legitimacy of the post-instructional assessment. Reflection It is only when we are cornered within the outskirts of four corners in our wall can our potentials meet its peek. As what I have learned and in the furthest knowledge of what I have understood I absolutely believe that we really need to put all of the said instructional discussions stated within the context of this video primarily. The particular reason for the circumstance is that this assessment together with its instructional means with the uniformity towards its various aspects of academic relations, improvement and development would further implore a much effective approach towards the learners in a more efficient manner. That is because it would educate the learners, the user and the masses who are interested on the same context to be enlightened to all of this matter. This actively demonstrates that by setting a teaching method at the level that challenges students metacognitive skills or higher level thinking would absolutely lead to a certain efficiency where only quality learners can be produced. Furthermore, as a future educator we really have to use our presence to make optimistic changes that would benefit both ends of the subject. Because " leadership is all about responsibility and vision, not power ". We have to monitor what the learners were able to master all throughout the course, test their learning to a certain fraction and lastly by giving them activities that would challenge them to apply what they have learned.
Levah Messiah A. Kinkito ED305 - 5:30-8:30 PM SEC H I was very well informed about the important chapters of academic contexts. Assessment roles provide authentic data obtained from student results. Educators track their students' progress to assess which skills they excel at and which they struggle with. The focus of educators is on achieving learning outcomes, assisting all students in obtaining exactly what they want in order to satisfy learners' needs, and what the goals of curricula are. Thank so much doc!

To make sure that what the teacher has taught to students were able to understood, assessments are done. As a future educator, this discussion done by the reporter of roles of assessment, helps me to understand more the importance of assessments for students as well as for teachers. As these assessments be used in the class, I will be able to know my students strengths and weaknesses and I will be able to make actions for it through giving lessons that will help them cope with it. This made me reflect also that education is not just about teaching to students what you are assigned to teach, but it is also ensuring that these things must be beneficial for the students and will be able to use in real life situations. After all, I can say that the role of assessment must be done by teachers, and for me as a future educator. I must use these for the sake of all in my future class.
Lara, Niña Sarah Clemens S. 5:30-8:30 Monday section G Video 2b). Summary The presentation entitled "Roles of assessment in making instrumental decision" was very informative. It talks about how the teacher must, (1) Pre- instructions or prior knowledge; (2) During instruction or students' progress and lastly; (3) Post-instruction assessment or mastery. These three helps the teacher on what certain assessment that will give to the student. Also the teacher will be guided on what strategies that he/ she will be using for his/her students to improve their skills and cognitive. Aside from those topic, evaluation is important as it helps to determine whether the students' learning outcome is good. When evaluating, it's placement role is important. Giving lessons, instructions, or test, all must be in place or organize for the learning of the students. Formative role as it word "formative", everything must be in format, and their are specific format that can be follow in order to be guided in assessing the students. Reflection I've learned a lot in this video as it helps me to have knowledge about the role of assessment. I've also learned that giving the sequence in evaluating student learning is important. What I'm trying to say to evaluate students learning it must be organized as this helps to determine students' learning. Also, the feedbacks of the students is important also.

As future educators, we have to consider that in everything that we do, assessment should always be our starting point and evaluation is our finish line because in this way, we can definitely provide a good quality of instructions and meaningful teaching-learning process towards our students.
Fabe, Sheena D. ED 305 Section H MON 5:30-8:30 p.m. After viewing the video presentation with this topic: Roles of Assessment in Making Instructional decisions gave me a wider perception on the profession I am soon to become, which is to be a teacher. Students as we are, we never acknowledge assessments given by the teacher, we complain and disagree with the process of having to answers quizzes or do performances or presentations, but this discussion presented information that helped me understand assessment more. At the same time, I have learned that there are more ways to be able to assess one’s knowledge and capabilities than just the traditional pen and paper way. As a future educator, this lesson gave me an insight on how I would be able to assess and also evaluate my students in such a way that I would see their strengths and weaknesses, particularly on what specific subject matter I have to discuss again to make sure that they would fully understand the lesson and on the next assessment, they would be able to understand. At the same time, assessment can also help me, as a teacher, to see if I am able to do my part as an educator and determine whether my teaching strategies are both efficient and effective or if I have to modify them when my students were not able to understand clearly on the ways I teach. It was mentioned in the video the four roles of assessment and also the four types of assessment used in instructional practices, namely placement, formative, summative, and diagnostic. These mentioned assessments have different functions on how these assessments take place in the four walls of the classroom and also presented examples that I can use in the future. This discussion taught me that per instruction, different assessments may be used and can give me direction on the next move to take in achieving the intended objectives and goals.
Tubal, Liezel B. T-th 8:30-10:00 am F This video tackles the roles of assessment where it is relevant to identify and make use of such information for future use. This made me realize the value of having such thing and the huge responsibility upon making and applying such thing in the teaching field. Assessments play huge role specially in the field of teaching. This allows the educators to assess and evaluate not just the learner's performances but also the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching methodologies used. This video entails the four roles of assessment where it is clearly stated that each role plays a different role from others but shares the same goal which is to evaluate. This is relevant in a way that students like us taking up education will have a clear understanding about planning and conducting assessments that fits to the needs of the learners that can too avoid biased results. Through assessments, both learners and teachers will know what might be the problems, strengths, weaknesses, and where to improve to formulate better performance for the learners and teachings for the teachers. Assessments are there to give feedbacks, gather results, make use of those results for enhancements, and produce better learning experiences.

Apoli John Francis Ed305 5:30 -8:30 What I have absorbed is that assessment is really a vital aspect. It is embedded already in the learning process meaning this must not be removed or not included when you are teaching something. It is tightly interconnected with curriculum and instruction. As teachers and students work towards the achievement of curriculum outcomes, assessment plays a constant role in informing instruction, guiding the student's next steps, and checking progress and achievement. As a future educator, I want to evaluate my students through an assessment that will really calibrate their comprehension and more importantly they can reflect the relevane of it.

Cepria, Jamaica T. BEED ASSESS 2 SECTION A MWF 8:00-9:00 1. Assessment- is one way to determine the teachers effectivity in teaching a lesson. This will measure the knowledge obtained by students from their teachers. Examples -Giving exams -Asking questions right during the discussion. 2. Pre-instruction- means we have to do pre testing to know the knowledge and skills of every student. This will determine what strategies an educators would use and what lesson should be taught before starting the class. Example - Providing a placement examination. -Giving pre examination. -During instruction-this is giving a challenge to students to know what specific target we future educator must attain to improve the students learning. Example -Giving a short quiz during the discussion. -Oral recitation 3. Post-assessment-this will determine if thestudents have learned the lesson that the educatorsjust discussed. 4.Placement-knowing what students already know. Examples -Giving pre test. -Asking questions 5. Diagnostic- determining the student's weakness. Examples. -Checking the result of the test if what part theylow scores. 2. Identifying if they were able to answer the questions being asked. 6. Formative- this is where it determines if the objectives are attained. Examples: -Checking the understanding. -Checking comprehension. 7. Placement Role- this will help identifying or determining the behavior of the students or learners. This will determing the strength of the learners. Placement will ensure that everything is being organized or placed. Example -Asking the students questions about the topic and if they answered or not. - Giving a test. 8. Formative role- this usually happened during the instruction where the learning progress are being determined. Format are followed as a guide. Examples - Provide homework. -Ask for reflection. 9. Diagnostic role- identify the needs of the student like thier weakness and strength. We would be able to know those difficulties during instruction. Example: - Conduct interviews. -Give pre test. 10. Summative role- this usually happened at the end of instructions. To know if the objectives are attained. This is also helps in knowing if the instructions was effective. Gomez, Sydel B. (Friday 5:30-8:30 P.M.) Section J The video presentation was an eye-opener in the sense that there are some teachers who were having a hard time coping up with the teaching mechanism of the 21st Century given the fact that education is improving, changing, and dynamic. Traditionally, teachers would just give one-method assessment towards his/her students but that is not the case today. Through the video, I realized that there are tests appropriate in a certain learning objective or way that might not be applicable with the other in instances like the differentiation of formative and summative assessment. There are specific roles of these types/kinds of assessment that we should know and adhere for us to grasp the target goal and accurately interpret the authentic data.
Rama, Jenelyn B. BPED - 3rd Year ED 302 /G / Monday 5:30-8:30 pm 2b. Summary Assessment is one of the great educational tools that helps all pupils learn more effectively in the classroom. The goals and educational objectives of the curriculum should be considered while evaluating students. Before beginning to instruct kids, teachers will conduct a diagnostic examination to determine their strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills. An identical evaluation may be administered after instruction to determine whether students have learned everything that is required for the course. Summative assessment happens after important portions of a learning cycle have been completed or at the end of the learning process. Reflection: After watching the video on the roles of assessment, I’ve come to understand how important assessment is to the process of learning and how it influences how we choose to teach. It establishes whether the course’s learning goals have been attained. What students should know or be able to do by the end of a class is stated in a learning objective. Assessments have an impact on many facets of education, such as student grades and placement. And development, in addition to the curriculum, educational standards, and financial support for the institution. Well-designed exams can foster active learning. In addition, I discovered that the instructional process uses four different roles: placement, formative, diagnostic, and summative.

Knowing these things about assessment guides us, future educators unto the hows and whats regarding administering assessment. I have realized that assessment is not just given to know the development of students but for the teachers to adjust in relation to the findings gathered from the assessment, this leads to the improvement of the teaching-process as a whole. These facts about assessment ensures a quality learning.
Patrocenio John A Friday 5:30-8:30 section I Summary In this discussion that was entitled “Roles in making instructional decisions” the speaker discusses mainly the four major types of assessments. But first we have to explain why it is very important to know the roles of assessment specially in creating instructional procedures because through the use of various assessments administrators as well as teachers will be guided on what specific area that has a need for any enhancement to come up with the desirable learning result. Here are the four types of assessments, first is the Placement it is defined as a tool to determine the entry of behavior of students. Second the Formative assessment is use to monitor learning progress for the student’s during instructions. The third one is Diagnostics it is use to test the students learning difficulties during instructions. The last type is the Summative, a type of assessment usually given at the end of the lesson. Reflection This lesson is very helpful for us in order for us as future educators to carefully choose a design for instructions. By a careful choose in creating instructions for our learners we may be able to provide our learners a meaningful learning that they can apply in their real life. And by understanding each type of assessments we may Improves the ways in making instructional decisions.

FEEDBACK Feedback is the information given to the learner about his/her performance with regards to the learning goals or outcomes. The purpose of feedback should be to encourage students and not to down them. But this doesn't mean that you should not tell the learners some negative feedbacks. That is why teachers should be careful in delivering them so that the message will appear to them as encouragement or redirection. When this happens, the learners will become more focused in achieving his/her goals. Examples: (1.) verbal feedback and (2.) written feedback 2. POST-ASSESSMENT Post-assessment is a type of assessment that is done after the instruction. It helps teachers evaluate the students' learning as well as their own teaching. Aside from that, it determines who needs to review the material before moving forward to the new lesson. Examples: (1.) group discussion and (2.) written tests 3. PLACEMENT ROLE This is one of the roles of assessment that determines the placement of students into a course or academic program. This type of assessment is administered before a course program begins. Through this, the teacher can match the students' learning needs with the appropriate learning experiences. Example: a student is assessed to determine whether a student is ready for a subject Calculus or higher level Calculus 4. FORMATIVE ROLE This is another role of assessment that takes place during the instruction. The formative role of assessment enables the teachers to keep track of the students' performance which can lessen their learning gaps. This is effective in the sense that the teachers can immediately take actions whenever their are imorovements needed. Examples: (1.) quizzes and (2.) questioning 5. DIAGNOSTIC ROLE This is a role of assessment that diagnose students's strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills. In this role, the teachers will have an idea what type of students they have. With this, they can carefully plan their instruction and deliver it effectively to their students. The diagnostic role of assessment is a great help for teachers because they can have a clear direction on their class discussion. Examples: (1.) pre-tests and (2.) checklists 6. SUMMATIVE ROLE This is a role of assessment that determines how well the students have learned in the discussion. This takes place after the instruction was given to the students. In this role, the teacher does not only determine the students' learning progress but also to know whether the approach or the teaching strategies used are effective. Examples: (1.) written examinations and (2.) performance tasks 7. CRITERION-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION Criterion-referenced interpretation allows the teachers to compare the students' performance to a well-defined content domain. Through this, teachers will be aware on what the students can do and what they can't. This type of interpretation requires students' raw scores or percent scores to determine the score needed for passing. Example: FCAT SSS (Sunshine State Standards) 8. NORM-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION Norm-referenced interpretation compare a student's score to the performance of other students. How much a student knows is determined by his/her relative ranking with the norm group. Percentile ranks are the most commonly used scores in this type of interpretation. Example: FCAT NRT 9. PRE-INSTRUCTION Pre-instruction is a strategy wherein the teachers teach concepts or skills before the actual class takes place. This aims to activate essential prior knowledge. This is like "heating the engine" before a vehicle takes off. It prepares students physically and mentally to the formal instruction. Examples: (1.) reading a text and (2.) answering questions. 10. PERFORMANCE TASKS Performance task is another way of assessing students' learning progress. This requires all the domains of learning. Through performance tasks, the students will be able to apply what they learned in the discussions and can improve their social relationship with their classmates. Examples: (1.) role plays and (2.) group activities

Summary: Topic: “ Roles of Assessment in Making Instructional Decision” Teachers must be capable of deciding what should be done to pupils in such a way that they can learn and get something from the discussion. According to brown (2018), the teacher must: Pre-instruction ( prior knowledge ) - teachers provide a specific information to enhance the knowledge of the students. During the instruction - teachers must monitor students metacognitive skills and learning. Post assessment - teachers have to make sure that their students have learned in the discussion. Another thing that is being discuss in the presentation is the four roles of assessment used in instructional process, and these are: Placement role- it is used to determine the performance at the beginning of the instruction (Nikko, 2001) Formative role- type of assessment used to monitor the learning progress of the students through continuous feedback. Diagnostic role - it is to determine the specific learning needs of the students. Summative role - to determine your students mastery at the end of the discussion. Reflection: After watching the video, I can conclude that I have received a lot of realization and understanding. These four assessment roles are very important and very useful in assessing students. This could help teacher to determine the effectiveness of his/her method of teaching.
Rabac, Charlemae Friday 5:30-8:30 | I Summary In this video it focuses on the Roles Of Assessment in Making Instructional Decisions. Teachers are not just simply teaching the students but they have main goals to reach during their discussion. The teachers are the one or the source of knowledge of everything, for the reason that teachers are the one will deliver and explain everything on a particular topic. Teachers should also set expectations in their class in order to monitor the students' learning. It is necessary to the educators to do evaluation in order to determine that there are learning that happening inside the classroom. Reflection To be honest, I thought being a teacher is kind of easy job. However after I watched this video I realized that there are many things to do in order to deliver the better learning environment inside the classroom. Teachers should be knowledgeable in this topic because they will be guided on how to handle their class that will have a good aftermath.
Mamac, Renaisan R. ED305 SEC H - MONDAY 5:00 - 8:30 PM After watching this video, I have learned and become aware on the different roles of assessment for it is a key component of learning where it plays an important role in the process of learning and motivation. It can encourage active learning especially when the assessment delivery is innovative and engaging. Assessment is very important in identifying students' strengths and weaknesses and the different gaps in their skills. It helps to review and monitor learning and internalize knowledge, turning what and how they learn into a well of resources they can use in the future.
Medura, Jessa B. ED 305 Sec. J (FRIDAY-5:30-8:30) The presentation enlightened me with the essential roles of assessment for the attainment of quality learning. After listening from the discussion and took in the content, I realized that assessment really has a great contribution in guaranteeing that students are truly learning. Assessment is at the core of the educative process. The four roles of assessment mark the interrelation of their relationships in teaching and learning. I grasp that when the four roles of assessment are applied, it can definitely enhance learning as this exhibits the sincerity of teachers in making sure that students are not left behind and that their competence are being considered. What inspired me most is the formative role of assessment due to the fact that it clearly defines the concern of the teacher towards the students. Teachers are not just concern about the grades, how perfect the attendance they made but also pursuing them to learn more deeply and ensure that every student is learning meaningfully and they will use it in the future. This is the fundamental aspect that I thrown light on.
Angca, Cris Ann A. FRI 5:30-8:30 PM (ED 302 - sec. I) Video 2b: Summary: The main topic of the video presentation is the role of assessment in making instructional decisions. As a future educator, it is important to know how to diagnose students and know what they are capable of. Since assessment and evaluation are essential in terms of giving proper learning to the student, it is essential to give feedback to the student for them to know what and where they need to improve upon learning. Assessment is used to evaluate teaching methodologies and strategies of the teacher and is also used in teaching decisions. The teacher must know the student's skills and capabilities prior to instruction, challenge the student's thinking and cognitive abilities during instruction, and monitor and evaluate students after instruction. And it also tackled the four roles of assessment and the same as the instructional designs, which are placement, formative, diagnostic, and summative. Assessment and evaluation can't be separated for the reason that there is no evaluation if there's no assessment and vice versa. Reflection: The video presentation/report enlightened me that we (future) educators must and should apply the pre-instruction, during-instruction, and post-instruction, and the four roles of assessment for us to know more about our learners. By this, we are able to determine the result or the improvement of our students. It is important to have feedback after assessment for the students to be aware of what they need to develop about their learning experiences.
This video shows how assessment and evaluation is necessary in a teaching and learning process. As a future educator, we have to monitor students' learning and ensure that they have learned something about the topic. Aside from monitoring the learning of the students, assessing also means to evaluate your teaching strategies if it is effective or not. Having the information from the assessment, we can determine what to do next or what to improve in teaching and learning process.
Echanez, Cristina R. BSED ASSESS 2 - E (Monday 5:30-8:30 PM) ROLES OF ASSESSMENT IN MAKING INSTRUCTIONAL DECISIONS The following are the 10 terms/concepts that I’ve learned upon watching the video: 1. Summative Assessment - this type of assessment is usually done after the instruction wherein students were assess to know if the learning outcomes were achieved or not and the results were graded. Example: • Long Test/Examination • Midterm Examination 2. Placement Assessment - this type of assessment will identify the student’s current level when it comes to their knowledge and skills. Example: • College entrance examination • Students were given a pretest before the instruction 3. Diagnostic Assessment - This type of assessment will allow students as well as teachers to know their misconceptions or misleading information about the previous topic. Example: • Teacher gives a pre-test to determine the class competencies about a certain topic. • Surveys or Checklist 4. Formative Assessment - This type of assessment will monitor student and provides improvement and development of the instruction of the teachers. Example: • Students asked for clarifications to their teacher during the discussion and teachers provide immediate feedback to avoid misconception. • Students were tasked to write a brief discussion about what they’ve learn in the discussion 5. Norm-referenced Interpretation - This type of interpretation will allow teacher to rank students according to their position through the use of the student’s performances. Example: • Student was ranked first in the Student Achievement Test. • Student was ranked tenth in the mathematics competition 6. Criterion-referenced Interpretation - This type of interpretation allows teachers to identify student’s ability to understand the topic or lesson. Example: • Competency Based Assessment • Classroom Assessment 7. Assessment - Gathering of data about the student’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their knowledge and skills and it would also help for the improvements and developments of the instruction. Example: • Students were provided with the on-ongoing feedback to their teachers to avoid misconceptions of the discussion • Teachers assesses student with using the pre-test method in order to identify their knowledge and skills about the next lesson. 8. Post-assessment - This will monitor the student if they’ve met the learning outcomes and understand the concepts. • Chapter Test • Performance Task 9. Projects - can be defined as individual works and collaborative works that is usually serves as product of the students as part of their performances. Example: • Teacher gives a task to the students to make a flower base by utilizing the plastic garbage in their house • Students were given a task to make an individual house miniature as their project for the second semester 10. Examination - evaluate or assess student’s learning competencies Example: • Midterm examination • Final examination
PEREZ, ANGEL ROSE T. BSED FILIPINO III ED 305 TTH 1:00-2:30 PM The overall message of the video is that assessment plays a vital role not just in students but as well as teachers. It is very important to perform assessment properly before, during and after the instruction in order to be aware as to how students learn witnessing their strengths and weaknesses. As students, we must always remember that assessments given by teachers are not easy to do. It takes proper planning and a certain period of time to finish it. Thus, teachers should properly know how to make assessments through knowing its roles and guidelines in order to provide reliable feedbacks for students.
Ilagan.Kyla Mae Q. 1:00-2:30 PM - TTH ED305 - E1 Summary : Assessment is a good educational tool that can help students learn more effectively. Student evaluation should be in line with curricular goals and educational objectives. Assessment and evaluation is a tool for evaluating the performance of both teachers and pupils. It is an essential component of the teaching and learning process. Assessment helps with decision-making by determining whether or not the educational goals are being met. Teachers are also proficient at using informal assessments, such as those used to assess learners' intellectual, behavioral, and functional strengths and needs. These tests are used to create IEPs for students, design and evaluate curriculum, and track their development. Formative evaluation occurs both before and during the learning process, while summative assessment occurs at the completion of significant segments in a learning cycle or at the end of the learning process. A diagnostic assessment is a type of pre-assessment in which teachers assess students' strengths, limitations, knowledge, and skills prior to teaching them. Following instruction, an identical assessment may be given to see whether students have fulfilled the course's required learning objectives. Individual comparisons are made with norm-referenced examinations, while criterion-referenced tests analyze a test taker's performance against a set of standards or criteria. Reflection: After watching the video about roles of assessment, I’ve realized that in the learning process, assessment is crucial. It determines whether the learning objectives of the course have been met. A learning objective specifies what students should understand or be able to do by the end of a class. Many aspects of education are influenced by assessments, including student grades, placement, and advancement, as well as curriculum, instructional requirements, and school finance. Active learning can be encouraged by well-designed assessments, especially when the assessment delivery is novel and interesting. Reaction: As a future educator, I have learned a lot regarding the importance of an assessment. The video was really informative. The speaker spoke clearly and elaborated the points well.
Tubog, Kaye Czarina A. Ed 305 Section-H (Monday 5:30-8:30 PM) BSEd-III Sciences There are essential roles the assessment obtains. The results aquire in the assessment is vital in evaluating the students' progress, mastery and proficiency as well as evaluating the teaching methods of teacher. Further, the assessment and evaluation are use altogether. There is no assessment if there would not be an evaluation and evaluation also is not possible if there is no assessement. These two promote to know the student's weaknesses and strengths. By that, teachers will incorporate their strategies to overcome the difficulties. Additionally, they can monitor the student's progress by constantly giving feedbacks. Finally they will be able to know if the mastery of the competency has met. To sum up, the video has clearly taught us that the aspects of assessment and evaluation are critical in delivering quality education to each and every learner.

Colot, Ronnel A. Wednesday 5:30 - 8:30 (Section H) Video 2b) Summary Having the Roles of Assessment are very important because it helps students on how to develop and stimulate the word effort at the same time having a positive perspective on various activities and lessons. We have the 4 roles of the assessment, these are the placement role, formative role, diagnostic role and summative role. When we say placement role, it is the act of a teacher that they make sure to deliver the informations properly, everything is planned and organized appropriately to allow students to move on to new knowledge. For the formative role is done intentionally at the same time continuing process used by all students and teachers in every part of learning and teaching to evoke or elicit. Additionally, it's used as evidence of student's learning to intensify, increase or further improve the quality and value about student knowledge of expected disciplinary learning goals and work with students in becoming self-directed learners. Diagnostic role are aimed to help teachers in determining at the same time ascertain what students already know and having quality necessary to do or achieve in many domains to intensify their student's learning. In order to develop their strengths as learners and meet their individual needs, teachers can use these type of assessment to find out what students understand. Lastly, summative role , this kind of role of assessment give and provide a rule-based approach or shall we say a systematic approach to express and convey how they have acquired complete knowledge. Additionally, to express how they mastered a variety of crucial learning goals and to get insightful feedback on their overall success. Reflection Positive relationships and direct interactions between a teacher and students can develop meaningful understanding. A student can feel more at ease undertaking complex learning that will improve and increase their academic performance when they have a good working relationship with their teacher. Any encouragement and support a teacher provides to their students has an impact on their academic progress. Additionally, by the strong positive relationships and direct interactions between teacher and students can dramatically enhance or noticeable way of student's level of motivation and therefore promote learning. When the four roles of assessment can be shown , performed properly without a doubt , it is not far to have a big change in the self of each learners.

SUMMARY In this video the focus of the conversation is on how educators should ensure that their pupils are receiving accurate information and constructive criticism. Assessment plays a role in decision-making about instruction. Brown (2018) states that a teacher should notify students of their deficiencies in knowledge and abilities. In the near future, it will be crucial for teachers to know the information and skills that their pupils need. A teacher must also keep track of their pupils progress and administer certain tests. When completing an assessment, there are several roles that must be played, one of which is the placement role. As the word placement suggests, everything must be planned out appropriately. The format for the formative role, which comes next, must be followed. The formative role comes next, there is a set framework to follow as well as a challenge in the Q & A section. A quick interview is required for the diagnostic role in order to determine the state of your pupils and foster a sense of community. The final role is summarizing; to achieve this, you must climb a mountain. These assessment functions really aid me in improving as a teacher. REFLECTION An ordinary student who is currently viewing this video will soon become an educator. The topic of conversation was about the potential uses of evaluation in the sphere of education for me in the near future. We must challenge ourselves as teachers because it is crucial. Our goal is to understand each student's particular capability as well as their cognitive abilities. I observed that although being an instructor is not an easy profession, it is my ambition, therefore I must continue what I have begun.
ALIDO, CHERRY T. FRIDAY 5:30-8:30PM (ED302-SECTION I) Summary: The video being presented by the speaker is about "The Roles of Assessment Used in Instructional Process". Assessment is crucial to the learning and motivation process. It is important to us (future) educators to consider assessment to our learners because it is crucial to think about the best way to gauge the learning we want to our learners to acquire and assessment should incorporate learning, grading, and student incentive. Effective evaluation techniques give important insights into student learning. There are four roles of assessment used in instructional process and these are the placement role, formative role, diagnostic role, and summative role. Lastly, the speaker also talked about on how are we going to used instructional designs in the classroom. Reflection: After watching the video being presented, I realized that as a future educator it is a big help to us to apply the roles of assessment and evaluation are very important in the teaching learning process. Giving assessment and evaluation to our learners will enable to us know if they learn about the topic. Assessment is a beneficial habit procedures that offer comments and remarks made to the learners regarding their learning. To enhance learning through feedback, we should give students a chance to review both appropriate and inappropriate actions. Feedback should always include suggestions for future learning will be improved.
Elsa G. Gadiana BEED IV- General Education MWF (8:00-9:00 AM) VIDEO 2: Roles of Assessment TERM/CONCEPT 1: Pre-instruction It is usually conducted by before the instruction to monitor the student’s prior knowledge. It is more focus on what the learners already know and the other things that teacher can add lessons about the topic. Example: Group Brainstorming activity and Game Activities TERM/CONCEPT 2: During Instruction Teachers usually use this to monitor the students learning progress considering the adjustments and lesson they added to the topic. This is the time for teachers’ presentation occur. Example: oral questioning and peer/teacher conversation TERM/CONCEPT 3: Post- Assessment A graded assessment that aims to know the if students have master and met the objectives of the lesson. Through this the teacher can be able to know his/her effectiveness in teaching and the other thing he/she can improve. Example: Summative Assessment and Quizzes TERM/CONCEPT 4: Self-Assessment It is a self-evaluating assessment that usually encourages an individua to reflect on their own knowledge and skills. Students is not the only one can get benefited from this assessment but also the teacher. Teacher will begin to see how a student receive and reflect to the assessment and how he/she can help the students. Example: Interactive Journals and Reflection Paper TERM/CONCEPT 5: Interview It is conducted to know a person to know their personal background, feelings and characteristics. It is a procedure of knowing a person’s characters, skill, knowledge and perspective. Interview is usually answered by concise and direct to the point. It does not usually last for 30 minutes. For example, job interviews and Department related course interview. TERM/CONCEPT 6: Placement Role It aims to determine students’ prior knowledge and skills before the instruction starts. Through the using the placement assessment teachers can be able to know the students need, so they can be able to create and innovate appropriate instruction based on the students needs. For example, first, Teacher Jen group her students to create a graphic organizer about their insights on Globalization. Second, Teacher Mika introduce a globe to her grade 4 pupil and let them observe and create a checklist on their observation. TERM/CONCEPT 7: Formative Role The main purpose of formative assessment among teachers it to observe and check the progress of their students during the teaching and learning process. It is a systematic way of witnessing the improvement of student’s knowledge and skills through various activities and assessments. For example, Oral participation during the class and Class observation. TERM/CONCEPT 8: Portfolios The purpose of the Portfolio is to compile all the output gather from the beginning of the quarter until the end. It can be a project, written examination, quizzes, and performances documentation. This will help the teacher, students and parents/guardians to know the learning development of the students through the quarter, grading period and semester. For example: scrapbook and miniature Volcano. TERM/CONCEPT 9: Norm-referenced Interpretation In this interpretation, students are rank based on other students scores. They usually conducted from the national achievements test conducted wherein they undergo ranking score and compares to other scores. For example, in an Olympics like how Hidilyn Diaz became the gold medalist which followed by China Silver medalist and bronze. TERM/CONCEPT 10: Criterion-referenced Interpretation In his interpretation, students are measure based on their knowledge and skill they have master. For example, Licensure for Teacher’s examination and Driver’s licensure Exam
Ocariz, Aries Lynn E. TTh (1-2:00pm) After watching this video, I realized that assessment is indeed very important in evaluating your student's capabilities and learning capacity. It helps teachers to really identify the area of strengths of the students as well as the area of improvement. In this way, it is easier for the teachers to create an instruction base on the needs of the students, and also it keeps them monitor the progress and improvement of the students. Assessment can be done in a formative or summative way, both are very effective in evaluating student's performance.
PAMOR, ANALIE S. BSED ASSESS 2 F FRIDAY 5:30-8:30 PM 1. ASSESSMENT - Assessment has a variety of roles and purpose in education, it can be use as diagnostic, formative and summative assessments. It can be used to evaluate knowledge and skills as well as competencies, modify instructions for better learning. Examples of assessment includes examinations and portfolio assessment. 2. PLACEMENT ROLE - Assessment role includes placement, it determines the student’s level of skills, knowledge and competencies required to procced the next grade level. Placement roles includes; Assessment about students’ readiness for calculus or Assessment to determine honors students. 3. FORMATIVE ROLE -Another role of assessment is to inform students or give constant feedback about their performance. With that, learners will be able to identify their strength and weaknesses about a certain learning area. Formative assessment includes; submit one or two sentences identifying the main point of a lecture and submitting research proposals for feedback. 4. DIAGNOSTIC ROLE - Assessment is also used to identify the student’s needs and difficulties for the purpose of modifying instructions for better learning. This is utilized to have a better learning outcome and for the students to be able to acquire the necessary competencies. Examples of diagnostic assessment includes Checklists and surveys for students and families to determine literacy behaviors and Student work samples including informal writing samples 5. PRE-TEST - Pre-test is used to determine the student’s knowledge prior to the discussion, this will enable teachers to determine what the students know and don’t know about a certain lesson, with that it is easier for the teacher to make a comparison about how students learn after the discussion. Pre-test includes oral questioning or quizzes. 6. SELF-ASSESSMENT - Self-assessment is all about taking responsibility of your own learning. It is a kind of self-examination about the areas that you already have mastered, in progress and areas that you don’t really understand. Examples of self-assessment includes reflection and grading your own performance. 7. SUMMATIVE ROLE - Summative assessment is usually done at the end of the semester, unit or chapter. Its result have been utilized as evidence on how the learner’s learned and will reflect on their report cards. Examples includes final exam and mid-term exams. 8. NORM-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION -Norm-referenced interpretation is a system in which the student’s performance is being compared to other students. It urges students to be an independent learner rather than being cooperative for the reason that getting a high grade is difficult. Example of this includes screening decisions and percentile rank. 9. CRITERION-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION - Criterion-referenced interpretation is based on a fixed criteria agreed by the teachers as a standard competency. It tells what students can do and cannot do rather than comparing it to other students’ performance. Criterion-referenced interpretation includes monitoring student achievement, and evaluating efficacy of instructional programs. 10. CRRITERION-REFERENCED ASSESSMENT - Criterion-Reference assessment measure the performance of every student against the criteria covered in the curriculum. Its purpose is to measure how much a learner knows compared to another student. Examples includes; Advanced Placement exams and the National Assessment of Educational Progress.
Tuayon, Jermae C. ED 302-D (Merged with Section A) 8:30 - 10:00 TTH Roles of Assessment 1. Placement - this can be also as initial assessment. It is to know what students already know or their prior knowledge about the topic. Examples: 1. Determining if the student has prior knowledge about geometry. 2. Determining the skill of a student regarding with physical activity. 2. Diagnostic -The teacher will determine what are the student's difficulties or his weaknesses in learning. Teachers will aslo determine their strengths or of what they are capable of doing, their knowledge and skills. Examples: 1. A teacher will give a group work and then the teacher will make a survey on what are student's prior experiences with group works and how he act with the group work. 2. A teacher will use conceptual questions to assess the students understanding about the topic. 3. Formative - this is an evaluation for students learning. With this, the teacher can adjust himself to meet the needs of the students with regards to their learning. It is to improve also the teaching and learning. Examples: 1. Impromptu quizzes 2. Create a visualization of what they have learned. 4. Summative -this happens at the end of the Instructional period. Teachers evaluate student's learning at the end of the instruction period. Examples: 1. Midterm exams 2. Chapter tests 5. Dynamic Assessment - it is to identify the learning potential of a student. Examples: 1. Testing vocabulary and giving a feedback. 2. Pre-test 6 . Synoptic Assessment -it is to assess the students understanding about the topic. Teachers will going to know if the student ables to understand. Examples: 1. The teacher will task students to write an essay. 2. Test the students understanding about the topic. 7. Ipsative assessment - it is to determine the progress of a student that is based on done work. Teachers will check the finished outputs of students to see if there are progress in it. Examples: 1. Looking at the students earlier work. 2. Letting students choose among the statements given that is most true. 8. Pre-instruction - it is an instruction that a teacher give to his students in advance. The purpose of this pre-instruction is that teachers will know what students already know or their prior knowledge regarding to a certain topic. It is a way to collect information on students that would help teachers to be guided. Examples: 1. A teacher can give students a pre-test to test students if they have knowledge already about the topic. 2. A teacher can also give group activity and let students share their own ideas about the topic that has not been discussed yet. 9. During the instruction - Teachers should challenge the cognitive and critical thinking of the students. It is a teachers job assess and monitor the learning of a student. Examples: 1. Short quiz 2. Oral recitation 10. Post - Assessment - Teachers can determine or evaluate their own teaching as well. It is also to evaluate if student really understand the discussion of the teacher or if they have progress. A teacher can give a pre-test because it is also a way to measure their learning and if the teaching are effective of if there is something to improve. Examples: 1. Writing a reflection paper 2. Quizzes
EYAS, WENRAH SHANE ED 302 - C TTh (1:00-2:30 PM) Video 1 (Roles of Assessment) 1. Pre-Instruction It is a form of advanced education given by a teacher to their students in order to assess their prior knowledge and skills and discover what learnings and skills are lacking and need to be improved. To put it another way, it's essentially determining what students already know about a topic before it's taught. Examples: - Picture Interpretation - Pre-tests provided by the teacher 2. During Instruction It is the start of evaluating progress from pre-instruction as well as explaining students'comprehension gaps in order to fine tune scheduled education in the future. Examples: - Brainstorming - Think, Pair, Share 3. Post Assessment To see if the learner met the learning outcomes or objectives , use this tool. Examples: - Quiz - Projects 4. Evaluation For grading and reporting reasons, uses methods and measures to assess student learning and comprehension of the topic. The instructor's feedback on the student's learning is known as evaluation. Examples: - Oral examinations - Final examinations 5. Placement Role To determine the student's degree of knowledge on the subject. It aids the teacher in more effectively explaining the content. These tests will not be graded. Examples: - Aptitude exams - Readiness tests 6. Formative Role Monitors student's progress and teachers have the opportunity to provide continuous feedback to their students. Examples: - Tests created by the teacher - Questioning/Interrogating students 7. Diagnostic Role It looks at the strengths and limitations of students' abilities. It's a role that helps students overcome obstacles and improve their learning outcomes. Examples: - Surveys - Game activities 8. Examples: - In the Mathematics test, Maica received the highest mark. - In the performance club, Kiko is the poorest dancer. 10. Criterion-Referenced Interpretation Provided by discussing what the students are able to do and what they are unable to do. Examples: -In just one minute, Isabel can type 45 words. -Ermi can recite the multiplication table excellently.
Name: Danica L. Gemina Time and Sec: 5:30-8:30 PM ( ED 302- SEC I ) Video 2b) Summary In this video, I learned the different kinds of Roles of Assessment where it provides me a great insight on how to deal with every student's characteristics. Every assessment has a role and specifically it has a function that the teacher’s need to use in order to improve the students with their learning process in such a way they will understand fully and develop themselves. The purpose of four roles of assessment that are being provided is to identify the students their mode of learning wherein they will be able to perform well in class or doing in the said activities. Moreover, this will also determine the student's progress and their ability, skills or the level of success. So, the roles are very essential to the learning process of the students and this will also be important to give a proper education to them. Reflection As a future educator, it is very important that we should know how to apply the four roles of assessment in order to determine the behavior or the performance of the students so that we will be able to know and be aware of their way of learning. Because our main purpose is to reach the target or the objectives that we want to give in order to obtain a kind of learning. Furthermore, this will teach us how to handle every student's differences. We should understand that each one of us is unique when it comes to the learning process. Some might be fast learners and others are not. Role of Assessment this will particularly provide a clear understanding on how we assess the students or how we deal with it in order for them to acquire knowledge. Aside from that it is also one way to know whether the students had more difficulty in the learning process or to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, applying those roles will help us to enrich higher competency of learning for the learners and the teacher’s as well.
MARIÑO, REA A. SECTION G (5:30-8:30PM) Video 2b.) Summary Topic: The Four Roles of Assessment Used in Instructional Process There are four roles of assessment utilized in instructional process: performance, formative, diagnostic, and summative. At this time, the teacher should already be familiar with a number of topics so that it will be simple for you to identify any skills gaps the pupils may have. Additionally, the teacher would find it simple to see the development of the pupils' learning capacity and to keep track of their performance with the aid of evaluation. Not only that, but the teacher should also take into account the post-instruction assessment, which checks to see if the pupils have understood the lesson and acquired the essential concepts of knowledge and abilities. Video 2b.) Reflection: My impression from seeing this video that teachers and students should value evaluation and assessment. Students' performance is assessed together with their accomplishments and deficiencies, including the subjects in which they excel and those in which they require more to enhance. In addition, it is useful for both students and teachers because this (the evaluation) will allow educators to determine what is required to meet children's needs and what needs to be purchased. I can say that this is a helpful tool because it is where the students can assess and learn from you and the teacher can learn as well from the students. These roles of assessment has a great impact and towards the student and the teachers development.

The presentation enlightened me with the essential roles of assessment for the attainment of quality learning.

After watching the video, I learned a lot about the roles of assessment and it's significance.

Summary :
This informative video presentation will tend to enlighten us what is the true purpose of assessment and why it is a very vital part of once learning.
Reflection:
After watching the video I now understand why my previous teachers keeps on giving pre-test and keep on asking before the lesson ends if we have some questions.

After watching the video, it helped me strengthen what I know about assessment and evaluation.

Summary
As far as I am concerned I absolutely believe that the general concept of the role of assessment in making instructional decisions serves an important role upon the intricate parts of every academic processes and for further development.
Reflection
It is only when we are cornered within the outskirts of four corners in our wall can our potentials meet its peek.

I was very well informed about the important chapters of academic contexts.

The video really enlightens my mind because as a future educator this is a great help for us in assessing and evaluating our students. Aside from that this is a tool that help learners improve each of their weaknesses. Being a teacher, we must be always prepared because this entails clarifying learning outcomes and choice of appropriate teaching- learning activities and use of assessment task aligned to the learning outcomes to check on learner’s progress. On the other hand, learning and understanding the different types of assessment will broaden their knowledge to plan and design, well-structed and sequence lessons that are contextually relevant, and incorporate a range of teaching and learning resources.

While watching this video entitled roles of assessment makes me realized that assessment is very important in education to both teacher and student in the teaching and learning process. assessment is one way to evaluate your student to their extent capabilities in learning. As a future educator, we are capable in giving assessment which can assess there cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills in order for us to be an effective teacher, also for them to learn thoroughly. Also in making assessments, we should put a lot of consideration, you should consider the learning skills of your student or their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning.

Assessment is very important in classroom setting.

Summary
The presentation entitled "Roles of assessment in making instrumental decision" was very informative.
Reflection
I've learned a lot in this video as it helps me to have knowledge about the role of assessment. I've also learned that giving the sequence in evaluating student learning is important. What I'm trying to say to evaluate students learning it must be organized as this helps to determine students' learning. Also, the feedbacks of the students is important also.

After I watched this video, I learned a lot of important things. I learned how important it is to give assessment to students. This is important not only for the students but also for the educators because through it, they measure the effectiveness of the educator. I also learned that in providing an assessment, it is important for the teacher to consider the strategies to be used and the goals he or she wants to achieve at the end of the assessment. These insights have been a great help for me who specializes in the field of teaching. They serve as guides for me to be an effective teacher in the future.

Assessment may be completed in a formative and summative way, each are very powerful in comparing students performance. Also as a future educator, we should recall that evaluation have to be carried out in 3 components of the lessons such as: pre-education, throughout education and post-education. It enables teachers in tracking students development. As a teacher, I’ve learned a lot in this video and I do suggest that everyone should watched this informative video. Hence, the video said a variety of unique examples, importance, reminder, and techniques that we will use to become an effective and efficient teachers someday.

This video presentation taught me not just important knowledge about the role of assessment in making instructional decisions but it made me realized that truly assessment and evaluation are essential in terms of providing proper education to the learners and these two processes or methods will always come together or inseparable because I realized that we could not achieve or proceed to the stage of evaluation if there is no assessment that has been done and vice versa. As future educators, we have to consider that in everything that we do, assessment should always be our starting point and evaluation is our finish line because in this way, we can definitely provide a good quality of instructions and meaningful teaching-learning process towards our students.

This video tackles the roles of assessment where it is relevant to identify and make use of such information for future use.

This comprehensive video doesn't only taught me on the different roles of assessment but also made me realized on how vital these roles are in making instructional decisions. To note, I've learned that assessment enhances learning if and only if the result provide feedbacks to curriculum actors (students and teachers). Thus, teachers must make sure that he/she must appropriately and effectively used the varied types of assessments in order to get as well as give feedback from the result. I've also learned the different roles of assessment and evaluation namely placement, formative, diagnostic and summative. These assessments have different roles and purposes as well as sub types. If these assessments are conducted correctly by teachers according to its purpose, then rest assured that his/her instructional decisions are right and will be effective in the teaching-learning process. What I have absorbed is that assessment is really a vital aspect.

The video presentation was an eye-opener in the sense that there are some teachers who were having a hard time coping up with the teaching mechanism of the 21st Century given the fact that education is improving, changing, and dynamic.

2b. Summary
Assessment is one of the great educational tools that helps all pupils learn more effectively in the classroom.
Reflection:
After watching the video on the roles of assessment, I’ve come to understand how important assessment is to the process of learning and how it influences how we choose to teach.

Summary
In this discussion that was entitled “Roles in making instructional decisions” the speaker discusses mainly the four major types of assessments.
Reflection

1. FEEDBACK
Feedback is the information given to the learner about his/her performance with regards to the learning goals or outcomes.
Examples: (1.) verbal feedback and (2.) written feedback
2. POST-ASSESSMENT
Post-assessment is a type of assessment that is done after the instruction. It helps teachers evaluate the students' learning as well as their own teaching. Aside from that, it determines who needs to review the material before moving forward to the new lesson.
Examples: (1.) group discussion and (2.) written tests
3. PLACEMENT ROLE
This is one of the roles of assessment that determines the placement of students into a course or academic program. This type of assessment is administered before a course program begins. Through this, the teacher can match the students' learning needs with the appropriate learning experiences.
Example: a student is assessed to determine whether a student is ready for a subject Calculus or higher level Calculus
4. FORMATIVE ROLE
This is another role of assessment that takes place during the instruction. The formative role of assessment enables the teachers to keep track of the students' performance which can lessen their learning gaps. This is effective in the sense that the teachers can immediately take actions whenever their are imorovements needed.
Examples: (1.) quizzes and (2.) questioning
5. DIAGNOSTIC ROLE
This is a role of assessment that diagnose students's strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills. In this role, the teachers will have an idea what type of students they have. With this, they can carefully plan their instruction and deliver it effectively to their students. The diagnostic role of assessment is a great help for teachers because they can have a clear direction on their class discussion.
Examples: (1.) pre-tests and (2.) checklists
6. SUMMATIVE ROLE
This is a role of assessment that determines how well the students have learned in the discussion. This takes place after the instruction was given to the students. In this role, the teacher does not only determine the students' learning progress but also to know whether the approach or the teaching strategies used are effective.
Examples: (1.) written examinations and (2.) performance tasks
7. CRITERION-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION
Criterion-referenced interpretation allows the teachers to compare the students' performance to a well-defined content domain. Through this, teachers will be aware on what the students can do and what they can't. This type of interpretation requires students' raw scores or percent scores to determine the score needed for passing.
Example: FCAT SSS (Sunshine State Standards)
8. NORM-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION
Norm-referenced interpretation compare a student's score to the performance of other students. How much a student knows is determined by his/her relative ranking with the norm group. Percentile ranks are the most commonly used scores in this type of interpretation.
Example: FCAT NRT
9. PRE-INSTRUCTION
Pre-instruction is a strategy wherein the teachers teach concepts or skills before the actual class takes place. This aims to activate essential prior knowledge. This is like "heating the engine" before a vehicle takes off. It prepares students physically and mentally to the formal instruction.
Examples: (1.) reading a text and (2.) answering questions.
10. PERFORMANCE TASKS
Performance task is another way of assessing students' learning progress. This requires all the domains of learning. Through performance tasks, the students will be able to apply what they learned in the discussions and can improve their social relationship with their classmates.
Examples: (1.) role plays and (2.) group activities

Education plays a vital role in building the future of every person. Education is really a key success. Success in education also be based on how education is being measured. This video makes me realize that with assessment, education will be valid because the teachers will know if the students really acquired the knowledge and skills that they need to have. Without assessment, teachers can't assure the learnings of the students. Teachers, as the main component in assessment, they should assure that the assessment that they made would really measure the Students so that all the efforts would never be wasted. I can now understand that what our teachers did to us was for our own sake. We should never get tired and rant about our complaint towards our teachers. They are just preparing us to a more challenging future.

ROLES OF ASSESSMENT
Upon watching the video, I have learned that assessment plays an important part or vital role to students' cognitive learning or the higher order thinking skills of the strudents. The four roles of assessment such as the placement, formative, diagnostic, and summative has its own distinctive purpose for the benefit and the enhancement of students' learning. Thus, according to Brown, 2018, the teacher must follow the pre-instruction, during instruction, and post-instruction steps in order to make the assessment systematic or organized.

Summary:
Topic: “ Roles of Assessment in Making Instructional Decision”
Teachers must be capable of deciding what should be done to pupils in such a way that they can learn and get something from the discussion.
According to brown (2018), the teacher must:
Pre-instruction ( prior knowledge ) - teachers provide a specific information to enhance the knowledge of the students.
During the instruction - teachers must monitor students metacognitive skills and learning.
Post assessment - teachers have to make sure that their students have learned in the discussion.
Another thing that is being discuss in the presentation is the four roles of assessment used in instructional process, and these are:
Placement role- it is used to determine the performance at the beginning of the instruction (Nikko, 2001)
Formative role- type of assessment used to monitor the learning progress of the students through continuous feedback.
Diagnostic role - it is to determine the specific learning needs of the students.
Summative role - to determine your students mastery at the end of the discussion.
Reflection:
After watching the video, I can conclude that I have received a lot of realization and understanding. As a future educator someday, I'll incorporate this material in my lessons because I think it will help me improve my future students' knowledge and skills and how I deliver my teachings to them.

Summary
In this video it focuses on the Roles Of Assessment in Making Instructional Decisions.

After watching this video, I have learned and become aware on the different roles of assessment for it is a key component of learning where it plays an important role in the process of learning and motivation.

The presentation enlightened me with the essential roles of assessment for the attainment of quality learning.

Summary:
The main topic of the video presentation is the role of assessment in making instructional decisions.
Reflection:
The video presentation/report enlightened me that we (future) educators must and should apply the pre-instruction, during-instruction, and post-instruction, and the four roles of assessment for us to know more about our learners.

ROLES OF ASSESSMENT IN MAKING INSTRUCTIONAL DECISIONS
The following are the 10 terms/concepts that I’ve learned upon watching the video:
1. Summative Assessment - this type of assessment is usually done after the instruction wherein students were assess to know if the learning outcomes were achieved or not and the results were graded.
Example:
• Long Test/Examination
• Midterm Examination
2. Placement Assessment - this type of assessment will identify the student’s current level when it comes to their knowledge and skills.
Example:
• College entrance examination
• Students were given a pretest before the instruction
3. Diagnostic Assessment - This type of assessment will allow students as well as teachers to know their misconceptions or misleading information about the previous topic.
Example:
• Teacher gives a pre-test to determine the class competencies about a certain topic.
• Surveys or Checklist
4. Formative Assessment - This type of assessment will monitor student and provides improvement and development of the instruction of the teachers.
Example:
• Students asked for clarifications to their teacher during the discussion and teachers provide immediate feedback to avoid misconception.
• Students were tasked to write a brief discussion about what they’ve learn in the discussion
5. Norm-referenced Interpretation - This type of interpretation will allow teacher to rank students according to their position through the use of the student’s performances.
Example:
• Student was ranked first in the Student Achievement Test.
• Student was ranked tenth in the mathematics competition
6. Criterion-referenced Interpretation - This type of interpretation allows teachers to identify student’s ability to understand the topic or lesson.
Example:
• Competency Based Assessment
• Classroom Assessment
7. Assessment - Gathering of data about the student’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their knowledge and skills and it would also help for the improvements and developments of the instruction.
Example:
• Students were provided with the on-ongoing feedback to their teachers to avoid misconceptions of the discussion
• Teachers assesses student with using the pre-test method in order to identify their knowledge and skills about the next lesson.
8. Post-assessment - This will monitor the student if they’ve met the learning outcomes and understand the concepts.
• Chapter Test
• Performance Task
9. Projects - can be defined as individual works and collaborative works that is usually serves as product of the students as part of their performances.
Example:
• Teacher gives a task to the students to make a flower base by utilizing the plastic garbage in their house
• Students were given a task to make an individual house miniature as their project for the second semester
10. Examination - evaluate or assess student’s learning competencies
Example:
• Midterm examination
• Final examination

The overall message of the video is that assessment plays a vital role not just in students but as well as teachers.

Summary :
Assessment is a good educational tool that can help students learn more effectively.
Reflection:
After watching the video about roles of assessment, I’ve realized that in the learning process, assessment is crucial.

There are essential roles the assessment obtains.

Summary
Having the Roles of Assessment are very important because it helps students on how to develop and stimulate the word effort at the same time having a positive perspective on various activities and lessons.
Reflection
Positive relationships and direct interactions between a teacher and students can develop meaningful understanding.

SUMMARY
In this video the focus of the conversation is on how educators should ensure that their pupils are receiving accurate information and constructive criticism.
REFLECTION
An ordinary student who is currently viewing this video will soon become an educator.

Summary:
The video being presented by the speaker is about "The Roles of Assessment Used in Instructional Process". Assessment is crucial to the learning and motivation process. It is important to us (future) educators to consider assessment to our learners because it
is crucial to think about the best way to gauge the learning we want to our learners to acquire and assessment should incorporate learning, grading, and student incentive. Effective evaluation techniques give important insights into student learning. There are four roles of assessment used in instructional process and these are the placement role, formative role, diagnostic role, and summative role. Lastly, the speaker also talked about on how are we going to used instructional designs in the classroom.
Reflection:
After watching the video being presented, I realized that as a future educator it is a big help to us to apply the roles of assessment and evaluation are very important in the teaching learning process.

VIDEO 2: Roles of Assessment
TERM/CONCEPT 1: Pre-instruction
It is usually conducted by before the instruction to monitor the student’s prior knowledge. It is more focus on what the learners already know and the other things that teacher can add lessons about the topic. Example: Group Brainstorming activity and Game Activities
TERM/CONCEPT 2: During Instruction
Teachers usually use this to monitor the students learning progress considering the adjustments and lesson they added to the topic. This is the time for teachers’ presentation occur. Example: oral questioning and peer/teacher conversation
TERM/CONCEPT 3: Post- Assessment
A graded assessment that aims to know the if students have master and met the objectives of the lesson. Through this the teacher can be able to know his/her effectiveness in teaching and the other thing he/she can improve. Example: Summative Assessment and Quizzes
TERM/CONCEPT 4: Self-Assessment
It is a self-evaluating assessment that usually encourages an individua to reflect on their own knowledge and skills. Students is not the only one can get benefited from this assessment but also the teacher. Teacher will begin to see how a student receive and reflect to the assessment and how he/she can help the students. Example: Interactive Journals and Reflection Paper
TERM/CONCEPT 5: Interview
It is conducted to know a person to know their personal background, feelings and characteristics. It is a procedure of knowing a person’s characters, skill, knowledge and perspective. Interview is usually answered by concise and direct to the point. It does not usually last for 30 minutes. For example, job interviews and Department related course interview.
TERM/CONCEPT 6: Placement Role
It aims to determine students’ prior knowledge and skills before the instruction starts.
TERM/CONCEPT 7: Formative Role
The main purpose of formative assessment among teachers it to observe and check the progress of their students during the teaching and learning process. It is a systematic way of witnessing the improvement of student’s knowledge and skills through various activities and assessments. For example, Oral participation during the class and Class observation.
TERM/CONCEPT 8: Portfolios
The purpose of the Portfolio is to compile all the output gather from the beginning of the quarter until the end. It can be a project, written examination, quizzes, and performances documentation. This will help the teacher, students and parents/guardians to know the learning development of the students through the quarter, grading period and semester. For example: scrapbook and miniature Volcano.
TERM/CONCEPT 9: Norm-referenced Interpretation
In this interpretation, students are rank based on other students scores. They usually conducted from the national achievements test conducted wherein they undergo ranking score and compares to other scores. For example, in an Olympics like how Hidilyn Diaz became the gold medalist which followed by China Silver medalist and bronze.
TERM/CONCEPT 10: Criterion-referenced Interpretation
In his interpretation, students are measure based on their knowledge and skill they have master. For example, Licensure for Teacher’s examination and Driver’s licensure Exam

1. ASSESSMENT
- Assessment has a variety of roles and purpose in education, it can be use as diagnostic, formative and summative assessments. It can be used to evaluate knowledge and skills as well as competencies, modify instructions for better learning. Examples of assessment includes examinations and portfolio assessment.
2. PLACEMENT ROLE
- Assessment role includes placement, it determines the student’s level of skills, knowledge and competencies required to procced the next grade level. Placement roles includes; Assessment about students’ readiness for calculus or Assessment to determine honors students.
3. FORMATIVE ROLE
-Another role of assessment is to inform students or give constant feedback about their performance. With that, learners will be able to identify their strength and weaknesses about a certain learning area. Formative assessment includes; submit one or two sentences identifying the main point of a lecture and submitting research proposals for feedback.
4. DIAGNOSTIC ROLE
- Assessment is also used to identify the student’s needs and difficulties for the purpose of modifying instructions for better learning. This is utilized to have a better learning outcome and for the students to be able to acquire the necessary competencies. Examples of diagnostic assessment includes Checklists and surveys for students and families to determine literacy behaviors and Student work samples including informal writing samples
5. PRE-TEST
- Pre-test is used to determine the student’s knowledge prior to the discussion, this will enable teachers to determine what the students know and don’t know about a certain lesson, with that it is easier for the teacher to make a comparison about how students learn after the discussion. Pre-test includes oral questioning or quizzes.
6. SELF-ASSESSMENT
- Self-assessment is all about taking responsibility of your own learning. It is a kind of self-examination about the areas that you already have mastered, in progress and areas that you don’t really understand. Examples of self-assessment includes reflection and grading your own performance.
7. SUMMATIVE ROLE
- Summative assessment is usually done at the end of the semester, unit or chapter. Its result have been utilized as evidence on how the learner’s learned and will reflect on their report cards. Examples includes final exam and mid-term exams.
8. NORM-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION
-Norm-referenced interpretation is a system in which the student’s performance is being compared to other students. It urges students to be an independent learner rather than being cooperative for the reason that getting a high grade is difficult. Example of this includes screening decisions and percentile rank.
9. CRITERION-REFERENCED INTERPRETATION
- Criterion-referenced interpretation is based on a fixed criteria agreed by the teachers as a standard competency. It tells what students can do and cannot do rather than comparing it to other students’ performance. Criterion-referenced interpretation includes monitoring student achievement, and evaluating efficacy of instructional programs.
10. CRRITERION-REFERENCED ASSESSMENT
- Criterion-Reference assessment measure the performance of every student against the criteria covered in the curriculum. Its purpose is to measure how much a learner knows compared to another student. Examples includes; Advanced Placement exams and the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

2. Determining the skill of a student regarding with physical activity.
2. Diagnostic
-The teacher will determine what are the student's difficulties or his weaknesses in learning. Teachers will aslo determine their strengths or of what they are capable of doing, their knowledge and skills.
Examples:
1. A teacher will give a group work and then the teacher will make a survey on what are student's prior experiences with group works and how he act with the group work.
2. A teacher will use conceptual questions to assess the students understanding about the topic.
3. Formative
- this is an evaluation for students learning. With this, the teacher can adjust himself to meet the needs of the students with regards to their learning. It is to improve also the teaching and learning.
Examples:
1. Impromptu quizzes
2. Create a visualization of what they have learned.
4. Summative
-this happens at the end of the Instructional period. Teachers evaluate student's learning at the end of the instruction period.
Examples:
1. Midterm exams
2. Chapter tests
5. Dynamic Assessment
- it is to identify the learning potential of a student.
Examples:
1. Testing vocabulary and giving a feedback.
2. Pre-test
6 . Synoptic Assessment
-it is to assess the students understanding about the topic. Teachers will going to know if the student ables to understand.
Examples:
1. The teacher will task students to write an essay.
2. Test the students understanding about the topic.
7. Ipsative assessment
- it is to determine the progress of a student that is based on done work. Teachers will check the finished outputs of students to see if there are progress in it.
Examples:
1. Looking at the students earlier work.
2. Letting students choose among the statements given that is most true.
8. Pre-instruction
- it is an instruction that a teacher give to his students in advance. The purpose of this pre-instruction is that teachers will know what students already know or their prior knowledge regarding to a certain topic. It is a way to collect information on students that would help teachers to be guided.
Examples:
1. A teacher can give students a pre-test to test students if they have knowledge already about the topic.
2. A teacher can also give group activity and let students share their own ideas about the topic that has not been discussed yet.
9. During the instruction
- Teachers should challenge the cognitive and critical thinking of the students. It is a teachers job assess and monitor the learning of a student.
Examples:
1. Short quiz
2. Oral recitation
10. Post - Assessment
- Teachers can determine or evaluate their own teaching as well. It is also to evaluate if student really understand the discussion of the teacher or if they have progress. A teacher can give a pre-test because it is also a way to measure their learning and if the teaching are effective of if there is something to improve.
Examples:
1. Writing a reflection paper
2. Quizzes

Video 1 (Roles of Assessment)
1. Pre-Instruction
It is a form of advanced education given by a teacher to their students in order to assess their prior knowledge and skills and discover what learnings and skills are lacking and need to be improved. To put it another way, it's essentially determining what students already know about a topic before it's taught.
Examples:
- Picture Interpretation
- Pre-tests provided by the teacher
2. During Instruction
It is the start of evaluating progress from pre-instruction as well as explaining students'comprehension gaps in order to fine tune scheduled education in the future.
Examples:
- Brainstorming
- Think, Pair, Share
3. Post Assessment
To see if the learner met the learning outcomes or objectives , use this tool.
Examples:
- Quiz
- Projects
4. Evaluation
For grading and reporting reasons, uses methods and measures to assess student learning and comprehension of the topic. The instructor's feedback on the student's learning is known as evaluation.
Examples:
- Oral examinations
- Final examinations
5. Placement Role
To determine the student's degree of knowledge on the subject. It aids the teacher in more effectively explaining the content. These tests will not be graded.
Examples:
- Aptitude exams
- Readiness tests
6. Formative Role
Monitors student's progress and teachers have the opportunity to provide continuous feedback to their students.
Examples:
- Tests created by the teacher
- Questioning/Interrogating students
7. Diagnostic Role
It looks at the strengths and limitations of students' abilities. It's a role that helps students overcome obstacles and improve their learning outcomes.
Examples:
- Surveys
- Game activities
8. Summative Role
This is used to assess the students' learning at the end of a course or instructional unit.
Examples:
- Culminating projects
- End of unit tests
9. Norm-Referenced Interpretation
Comparing a student's performance to that of others or to the student's average performance.
Examples:
- In the Mathematics test, Maica received the highest mark.
- In the performance club, Kiko is the poorest dancer.
10. Criterion-Referenced Interpretation
Provided by discussing what the students are able to do and what they are unable to do.
Examples:
-In just one minute, Isabel can type 45 words.
-Ermi can recite the multiplication table excellently.

Summary
In this video, I learned the different kinds of Roles of Assessment where it provides me a great insight on how to deal with every student's characteristics.
Reflection
As a future educator, it is very important that we should know how to apply the four roles of assessment in order to determine the behavior or the performance of the students so that we will be able to know and be aware of their way of learning.

Video 2b.) Summary
Topic: The Four Roles of Assessment Used in Instructional Process
There are four roles of assessment utilized in instructional process: performance, formative, diagnostic, and summative.
Video 2b.) Reflection:
My impression from seeing this video that teachers and students should value evaluation and assessment.
