Karen, watercress is abundant in our clear mountain streams here in Arkansas. It tends to be found only in spring-fed creeks fairly close to the spring, and I have heard it cannot thrive in dirty or polluted water. It is very fine simmered in water with some salt & butter or smoked meat. Cooking removes that peppery "bite", but it's probably more nutritious raw. Excellent video Miss Karen!
Thank you Wayne! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! There are some creeks I won't get it from despite "looking" clean as I know it is far too close to a farm that is not organic.
I recently learned these grow wild on alot of ppls property where I live. I dont know if it's ln ours. It kinda looks like it . Thank you so so much for sharing the importance of knowing qhere it comes from. I had no idea.
Very interesting. The only time I've come across this plant was in a small, cool urban creek and it was growing fully submerged. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome! A couple of places I like to get this from are dried up this summer. The drought in southern Ontario may not be severe, but it is lowering water levels. :( At least there are still three other places I go to in which the watercress is still good!

Do you have a background in wild edibles or did you grow up doing this ? Love your videos .
Twenty years of eating wild, chartered herbalist and currently a nutrition student!
This grows in the babbling stream that crosses our property. How do I test it or the water for cysts?
That I do not know. Perhaps check with government run labs?
I'd still cook it to be safe...we usually stir fry it with beef...so good.
