Well firstly, at the time, Amy and Bernadette were working at separate companies/universities though Amy would later move the university. Second, they never tried to examine the nuance of speaking to boys and girls differently. In all honesty, their attempts probably would have failed no matter what if they had used a gender neutral class but it would have been better to not wait till the end of the episode to consult their two female scientist friends.
@@henrypeters5291 It would also fail because men and women have different interests, which many studies have proven. Even when they do go into science, they usually go into the "soft sciences" (like Amy and Bernie). The hard sciences like Engineering and physics are dominated by men, even with the rise of programs literally designed to get more women in them. Dr. Jordan Peterson recently referenced a massive study in Scandinavia (where apparently the society is the most "gender egalitarian"). The women actually ended up going into women dominated careers even more, as did the men into male dominated careers. For example, the ratio of men to women engineers was even higher, as was the ratio of women to men nurses. This showed that it's more about interest than "discrimination". Interestingly, in societies where women are more discriminated against- like in the middle east- women tend to go into the STEM careers at an astounding rate, as a way out of those societies. There are many different fields where a solid grounding in advanced math is an absolute necessity and by discouraging young women from getting started on that track in middle school it is essentially a guarantee that they will never get into those fields.
@@corberus3119 that's a conspiracy theory made by conservatives, I'd consider myself left wing and I've never heard another left wing person say that in my life. I've literally only heard it from conservatives. Not saying that there isn't some lunatic out there who genuinely believes that, but it's certainly not even close to the majority. It's like saying that every conservative believes that the earth is flat. In fact, flat earthers are probably a bigger group than people who genuinely believe that math on a conceptual level is racist/sexist.
Personally, I don’t see anyone being “discouraged” from pursuing maths or other sciences. People just have different interests and choose to pursue different things. A person who is bad at math is not going to pursue a career in mathematics, a person who is bad in social interactions is not going to pursue a career in humanities or communication, a person who can’t sing is not going to pursue a career in singing, etc… I don’t understand this obsession where every career has to be 50/50 in gender. Everyone should be free to pursue what they want. Schools should aim to spark interest for all careers in all students, not just science and math

I am only partially agree with Sheldon on that one. Firstly it depends on which kind of Science, true, but biology is an interesting case. In my country (France) when I was in high school, there was much more female than male students. At PhD level it was still the same but it started to change with Post doc and was largely inverted for PIs. The desire of having some sort of family is often affecting women career and the competition in science is against any maternity leaves. This means problems are at every levels, not only at childhood level.
Against maternity leaves? So what happens if you’re male and get sick or are in need of surgery? Do they fire you? Or do they just hope that none of their workers will ever get sick and will therefore never be absent for a prolonged time, lol?
2 года назад
@@tictac3147 the same than maternity leaves... But long illness or injury happens less frequently, much less. But to clarify, it is not directly the fact of going on maternity leave that is the direct problem. What is happening is that many women anticipate that, for them, you can't have a family life whilst in research. Indeed, how can I do those crazy experiments that starts at 7am and finishes at 10pm the same day whilst taking care of a kid? Unfortunately that is the truth, many women are forced to chose family life Vs science. Nobody will quit science in anticipation of a long illness.
@@tictac3147I am not speaking for the OP, but I would assume the maternity leave in France is much longer than the six weeks in the US. I am only aware that in Montreal, a woman ( well a man too but someone has to work) can take up to a year maternity leave up to 60 percent of take home pay. While theoretically it sounds great, the woman (or man) that takes a year break will be behind of all employees that were there for the year.
What you are saying is they should make superhuman efforts to counteract massive structural inequality. Wouldn't it make more sense for society to deal with the massive structural inequality?

There are many different fields where a solid grounding in advanced math is an absolute necessity and by discouraging young women from getting started on that track in middle school it is essentially a guarantee that they will never get into those fields.
and now there are people teaching that math is sexist/racist because only white men see things as either right or wrong
And then you're bad at math and auto excluded from any of them.
@@tictac3147 Sadly as racism and sexism have been inherent in society for so long, they are present in all of its aspects, including academia. The OP is correct in that great strides have been made to correct these wrongs, but for every two steps forward those who want to reverse the progress force a step back.
I feel like doing the same thing to get more men in the arts!
Are you saying that you don't like anything that's related to Joy or entertainment but you instead prefer soulless machines? Troll.
LadyOfBroadway333 Don't worry. Carpe Diem is a pseudo-intellectual; the kind of person who believes science is the only legitimate path worth taking.
That said, he's either a dumbass in university or has never actually gone to university, as he'd know there is quite a bit of overlap between the two.
***** Yes.

I'm sure Sheldon has been on every government list at some point.

Nooooooooooooo
"Some people are Otters, some people are Rocks."Great Sheldon quote.
Yeah, coming from a guy who was about to end up on the Perverted Justice watchlist with that google search.
Notice how Howard can't contain his laughter when Sheldon goes "How to get 12 year old girls excited".
Howard smiled when Sheldon tries to google it 3:55 😅😂🤣
Sheldon finally said something good: *People should take care of themselves.*
What you are saying is they should make superhuman efforts to counteract massive structural inequality. Wouldn't it make more sense for society to deal with the massive structural inequality?
@pierre persson Governments have made conscious efforts to reduce inequality and been succcessful. It just requires political will.
Khan Skywalker yeah the thing is, it’s not as easy for everyone as it is for you. Some things still need to change to make it so everyone has an equal chance to be successful in life.
@pierre persson Well said. Life is generally not fair. Genetics and political situations we are born in. But the best fight all odds and still prevail without bitching.
Feminists movements like what Leonard is trying to is why he will remain a cuckold forever. Advocating science? No one is putting a gun to these college broads to do Gender Studies. STEM subjects are always available. These girls *choose* not to take those. Dont blame society for their choices.
