This Kata has 21 moves here. In my school we have 19 moves. It's the same up until the end, where move 19 is a slow block to face the front again. here he spins 180, blocks, punches, then faces the front with hands down. Also we cross our arms when spinning to protect our chest and spin faster, while here he points with his punching arm while spinning, then blocks.Interesting to see the differences from Sensei to Sensei.
I am aware that many clubs perform this Kata with 19 moves and it finishes with a slow block facing shomen. My lineage have always performed it with 21 moves though for symmetry. We are still practicing the same skills. Wouldn't it be boring if everyone was exactly the same? I like tradition, but not just for the sake of tradition. Innovation and experimentation are also traditions in Karate. Osu!
This was a wonderful review (though I'm used to the yoi being deeper, the rest is the exact same); I had not memorized the full kata but wanted to practice, and this helped me remember the forthcoming moves. Thank you as well for the slow-motion version.
If you please...Where is your dojo and what is the lineage of your Goju-ryu and Sensei's.? These taikyoku kata are not included in all Goju ryuha curricula. Thank you.
sensacional, mas esse Kata é o Taikyoku Jodan Ichi ou o Taikyoku Jodan Ichi Ni? Amazing, but is that Kata Taikyoku Jodan Ichi or Taikyoku Jodan Ichi Ni?
i don't mean to be rude in anyway, do you train not to look before you turn? when i perform any kata, we are trained to look in the direction of attack before turning to defend
Thank you for this video. Me and my friend just started learning Goju Ryu Karate and have taken 12 or so lessons so far. We got a grading coming up in a few weeks! Needed some practice material to be able to practice and memorize at home. Coordination is complete shit so far, haha!
We'll look at me. I'm back here again. 😂 Missed the first grading, because of illness, and now my sensei want me to grade for both 10th and 9th kyu... tomorrow! 😅😭 I'm not stressed out at all, not at all!
@Henk No, sadly I've completely dropped practice for now. Had to focus on a lot of stuff in my private life. But maybe once everyone gets their vaccine and things calm down I'll get back into it if I can find a clas around where I live now. Good luck with your grading!

I learned with 21 movements 20 years ago, just like this video.

This is a really great reference. Perfect form.
Thank you so much sensei. In our style this kata it's a bit different but this video helps me a lot when I want to train at home
