Sanchin
Significa (três batalhas). Ele não se refere a batalhas reais, ou físicas, mas a batalha interna que se aproveita do corpo, mente e espírito por meio da força de vontade. É um clássico do Kata rígido (GO), que envolve tensão muscular contínua por todo o corpo, bem como a rigidez do (Ibuki), ou seja, respiração. Esta respiração é alta, concentrada e intensa, e o kata é todo realizado na base Sanchin dachi.

I finally found a video of someone doing sanchin the way I learned it 20 yrs ago from the late, Sensei Guy Kurose 6 th degree , of Seattle Wa , R.i. P
I imagine this like those pneumatic actuators in steampunk machines letting off that little pressurised puff of air. Can't help but feel the power behind it.

O que penso que e muito interessante e que nas discusoes das artes marciales chinas, muitos falan sobre os estilos o , e tem muitos que chamarian ao guindaste branco de Fujian, o origem de muitos aspetos do karate de Okinawa, como um estilo "externo." Mas esta kata claramente e uma kata avanzada pelos aspetos internos: o foco na respiracao e a posiciao dos musculos dentro do corpo. Pra mim e muito claro que o nivel avanzado das artes marciales tem um foco en o interno e o externo ao mesmo tempo.

Don't forget to tuck those hips in to channel the power. I found that fire breathing timed with the movements works good and vase breathing for a slower start if just learning.

is the sound he makes a special technique to scare the shit out of the opponent or contestant?
Known as "lion breathing," it is an ancient breathing technique with deep roots in Fukien White Crane Gung Fu. In my humble understanding and practice of lion breathing in the context of Sanchin kata, it allows very conscious control of the exhalation process and was used hundreds of years ago during combat. Although highly dated now, I have never known any karateka whose karate-do was not improved through the diligent practice of this kata and lion breathing.
gabehs1 how does one actually performe this? Beside the breathing, does the body need to be tense all the way until finish?

depends, in my style we do a fast tense exhale but he does it with lion breathing

I'm sorry but his Ibuki breathing was forced and from more of the throat than the lower abdomen as the source. I see this alot from practitioners who's Goju is from the Mainland Japan lineage. I enjoy Mr. Yamaguchi's demonstrations but his breathing technique is not a proper representation of Goju-Ryu's breathing.
Yeah, I always wondered about that. I don't do Goju, but I do know that you should never let the tension rise to your throat, but kept down in the dan tien. Not good for your blood vessels. He may have done it on purpose, though, so the viewer could understand the tempo of the breath, seeing as how this is a demonstration. The toe-in stance is also not recommended for the knee joints, but done to show an instructor that the student understands how he should be gripping the ground.

Ummmmm... that's probably because he's not Goju Ryu..... he's Goju Kai. And seriously, who are you to judge Saiko Shihan! Show some respect.
He does sound like a lion, but it's very similar to the Benevolent Shen Long Purrr that I learned.
When he exhales, the governor vessel empties, and the vibration reaches the tail. When he seals vacuum, the jing awakens.
His exhalations are very deep. The throat is involved in producing the vibration, but his mind is not stuck there. You guys are wrong. He's top tier.

Por si no has estudiado, el karate ignorante, se desarrolo poara ser un arte mortal de guerra, has visto mucho karate kid, mejor agarra un libro de historia, en okinawa existian violaciones a los derechos humanos y civiles brutales, por los samurai, al no contar con armas , la gente tubo que ver la manera de defenderse y darles una leccion a los violadores y asesinos que gobernaban, asi se desarrolo el karate, tecnicas mortales , para defednder la vida, pero tu que vas a saber si solo entrenas como un poobre tonto para acumular cintas, inserbibles y para tu informacion, menso, las ridiculas cintas no existian antes, se entrenaba para ser un arma humana no para tener una puta cinta, tu puta cinta si estubieras en el shogunato te la quitaba un samurai y te la metia por el trasero, asi que no vengas a dartelas de chulo, que por lo que lei no sabes nada de esdto, y ya dejame criticar en paz, al ridiculo este del video
