11 years later, this song still captivates me. David Nail is one of the most underappreciated, talented country artists this century. Period. His catalog is filled with nothing but amazing stories and poems that just happen to be songs. They will forever live within the souls of those who are blessed to find him.
David Nail should be a superstar right now. This is one of the 10 best songs of the last 10 years
He is so underrated. The first time I heard this it stopped me in my tracks.
Me too!
His first album is literally one of my favorites of all time. I don't know why he didn't take off.
In my own experience, I struggled to prove my abilities and to choose my dream of true love and family, David knows he can sit comfortably next to anyone at the CMA'S , and he has managed a very beautiful family, his ratings are very high, he is a deserving and blessed man.
Me too I pulled over on the side of the road
When I found this song, I was going through such a terrible time in my life. An ex that did everything he could to beat me down, physically, emotionally, and mentally. The night I got off of work, I played this song, over and over again. Asking god to help me find the light, to get out of the dark hole I was in. Sitting on that front porch swing, watching the sun set, and balling my eyes out. I was lost, alone, confused, and seeking anything that would help. Every time I hear this song, it takes me back to that day. I did get out, and am so proud of myself. Every song takes you back to a time, this song takes me back to when I was lost in this world, and felt I had no one but god.
This is your fight song young lady wtg.
He was an asshole. He will suffer
That is exactly where I am now. Trying to find my place in the world and the strength to stand on my own two feet away from the abuse. It’s so good to hear you’re out and doing well 🖤
@@donibrasco1984 .he is an amazing singer, artist,. We share same things
Bless you..I'm glad you found your way!!
radio completely miss this. .I do not understand. .this has to be one of the greatest recordings of all time yet it barely made a dent on the charts..work with all the garbage coming out making the top 10 and yet this barely cracked the top 40..can someone please explain
many talks i guess...
Totally agree with you. With songs like Tuxedo by Clare Dunn and shit like that getting up there... So sad what has happened to "Country Music." David Nail should have several top 10 hits in my opinion. Real music. He doesn't pair with the Backstreet Boys and Demi Lavato
Actually KRTY out of San Jose plays this :)
Mainly because his name isn't Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, etc. Saw him live, song is done beautifully. Just not enough traction with bigger radio stations. Look at the year it came out.
Agreed. Makes me cry each time. Its just perfect. Nothing more. Simply, perfect.
Best voice in country music! Deserves more recognition!
Couldn't agree more
For me, this is by far the best country song ever..... and will probably always be.
This song is about all songs and how they touch your soul, how they connect you to moments in your life, how you remember things when you hear a song--buried but not forgotten!!!! The sound of a million dreams (songs)!! When they hit you to your soul and you never forget..That's what a true musician does he writes and sings songs wanting us to connect to them. This song should of been No.1 !!!!! Love it David !!
Well, damn.... I'm crying now. I love such a variety of music: at times I'll connect with Eminem, sometimes I'll listen to boy bands from the 80s and 90s, old country music like Johnny Cash... then there are times what speaks to me is piano music.
I've only recently discovered this artist. He is quite incredible.
I recently lost my father and slow songs hit me differently now. This song was so beautiful.
I had his dad as a music professor in college...great guys and awesome fam!
I love this song so much that I had the title tattooed on my side. it is just beautiful.
ohhhh cool i have the same tattoo because a different reason because it was for my great grandma fav song and look at my shoulder and it just remind me of her i shows her year of born and sadly death bc she just died like 10 to 8 months ago man sad things can happen to most loved people
Very powerful song
I am 52 and was a stone cold rock n roller and never listened to much country music if any. Been laid up from accident and had nothing to do except listen to music via directv and heard turning home first from david nail and his voice got me listening!! I went to you tube and started playing his songs. In my opinion David has one of the best voices I have heard in my 52 years.I can relate to his music and makes me bring back memories of times when not to worry was a way of life.
He never has got the true recognition he deserves. God has so gifted this man. It's all about a broken and contrite heart. ❤🙏
One of the best singers out there I don't understand why he isnt superstar status amazing singer and talent why oh why does radio miss this
I'm still listening. I saw him at the Thirsty Cowboy in Medina, Ohio. Love him how all his songs hit home. Keep going David! We love you! I'll never stop listening to your gifted voice. ❤
I agree. Saw him in Atlanta. Bucket list ✔️.
@@lorrainefussell823 I wish he'd come around my area alot more. Such a soulful voice!
Yes, he's an all-time favorite.
Incredible song! He is so underrated!! His voice is a pure pleasure to listen to. I still can't see why ones like Luke Bryan are more popular,I think David not only is more vocally talented but also better lookin in my opinion. Luke drives me nuts, his voice is so annoying and the way he carries himself as well,so cocky and arrogant. David sings songs that hit you in the heart. 💗
David Nail this is as good as it gets man I could compare you to a modern day Merle haggard with more range as a vocalist and at least as much heart for home and family and what it’s like to be from southern Missouri , and blessed with an clean slate to stand the light and that’s not an easy job, my uncle Bob Ramsay played Music in Ava for many years on the square, sorry I’m long winded, thank you for sharing your great talent!
No one is better than David Nail. Phenomenal song by Phil Vassar.
Hate how underrated Nail is. Dude, is one of the best singers out there.
Have had the privilege to see him twice in Michigan.....powerful voice that is so worth listening to
Very few songs nowdays can give me goosebumps and tug at my heartstrings and even fewer can bring tears to my eyes. This is one that does all three. David Nail is amazing. His emotions are clear and his voice is pure.
I adore your voice and your writing...I always love seeing your grandpa saying he will see your sign in the big lights!! You deserve it..amazing artist..you gotta know..your amazing
This is actually Phil Vassars writing, however David Nail made it the success it is. He does amazing with this song. It deserved to make it to the top of the charts.
ditto - goosebumps. why isn't he more famous - he is, but not nearly as much as he should be. he is amazing.
I know everyone keeps asking what this song is about...But sometimes, a song is so masterfully written, that the song is about YOU. YOUR memories are all that you can think of. YOUR life is what you recall. YOUR emotions are stirred up. It is so powerful, that it isn't about one story... its about my life, and your life, and everyone's. That is what the chorus is saying... he wrote this song because he knows the power of music, and hes hoping that this song hits someone somewhere in the world. And I can tell you that this song is one of the most powerful songs ive ever heard.
William, yes it is.
William you couldn't be more right about this song I heard it coming home from Ireland and it hit me like a brick so powerful and passionate. .. I wish I could share your post with this song...
William Ershen You are so right! Very well put!
+William Ershen These are bits of different songs, sarah is from one, mama is a song.... your correct each song hes talking about they hit somewere
+William Ershen You hit the "Nail" on the head. And i totally agree...very powerful song. I just recalled a million of my own dreams that even some had been forgotten.
Are you listening this is better than anything on commercial radio
I'm not a huge country fan, I was drawn to his voice. This guy can sing! Pretty good song to. Going to iTunes now.
I AGREE WITH SO MANY OTHERS! WHY?! WHY IS DAVID NAIL NOT HITTING THE TOP OF THE CHARTS WITH MORE OF HIS MUSIC?? HE HAS SOOO MANY TRULY GREAT SONGS! HIS VOICE IS AMAZING AND HE HAS SOMETHING THE OTHERS DO NOT...DAVID NAIL SINGS WITH HEART, YOU CAN FEEL EVERY SONG!! TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT...I HOPE HIS FUTURE IS AS BRIGHT AS THE SUN AND HE CONTINUES TO GIVE HIS FANS MORE AMAZING MUSIC!!!! LUV YOUR INCREDIBLE MUSIC DAVID!!
I'm a huge NAILER, david doesn't make great eye contact with the fans, he tends to stay off the Catwalk, he needs to have more fan contact, I Twitter bullied him onto the catwalk last year at Route 91 in Vegas and the crowd went wild when he came down the ramp. Talent wise? Singer? Writer? One of the Great ones.
And yes I am a Route 91 Survivor, Country Strong....
HelloCountry USA a nice job love you all day long
This song should be very famous! it's damn amazing
My favorite all time song, so well done. Wish I had talent
the second verse hits home. I just moved out with my boyfriend(now my x) and had my heart broken and mom just openly took me back in with calming arms
This is one of the most talented artist in country music today. For some reason (and some will say that he has issues.....see Oh, Mother and the interview afterwards) he just hasn't broken through AND maintained it. I say that because he was #1 with LET IT RAIN, in 2011 or 12. Nail finally realized his faults and addressed them, but instead of flourishing after his mea culpa, he has sort of just hung around. I'M HERE TO PROMOTE ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGER/SONG WRITERS OF OUR TIME!!! I am here to encourage David Nail to get back out there with new music and stun the music world with your lyrics and your voice. I originally saw you in concert in Baton Rouge, La. way back in 2010. I knew then that you were special. I have followed you ever since. I have faith and look forward to more amazing music. GODSPEED!
This man is amazing - you can't help but feel the emotion in his voice - his live shows are incredible.
Omg I just heard this song. Where have I been? More importantly, where is this artist now. What fantastic talent.
For anyone who needs to be told what this means: It's his memories surrounding his formative musical experiences and his experience informs his songwriting. It's about the power of music to "stir up memories" and "cut through the noise" of life to speak to us. Songs are used as a soundtrack during special events, formative experiences. For instance, I cannot hear Creed without thinking about my Junior year in High School. I cannot listen to early 1990s Country (The River, Burn that Bridge, Anymore, So Help Me Girl, Does He Love You, I Swear, In the Heart of a Woman) without thinking about my introduction to country music through my Aunt and her family when she was babysitting me and my brother. I can't hear Sugarland's 2008 Album "Love on the Inside" without thinking about the joy that it brought me in a very dark time in my life. So, if you have ever had a memory triggered by hearing an old song, if you have ever related to the lyrics of a song, if you have ever kissed while a song was on the radio, and if you have ever been healed or felt a spiritual experience from someone's else's song, you know what this song is about. It's self-aware of the importance of music to him, and what it can do to those listening to his hard work.
This song is amazing to me. I can play it over and over. I sing along at the top of my lungs. This song does to me what he is singing about. His voice does cut through the noise. I have told my family when I die this IS the song I want at my funeral. Because this song " Hits me right". Thank you David!
David Nail, you nailed this song! Wow! Love listening, can’t get enough of it!!!
I shared this song with a songwriter friend named Phil Barnhart (Broken Wing, I Want To Be Loved Like That...) All he said was "Excellent!"
One of my all time favorite songs...without a shadow of a doubt...I don’t understand why it didn’t make it farther up the charts...
He's one of the most underrated country artists out there... So much talent!
Wy isn't this in the top 10 right now! This is an excellent song and his voice is phenomenal... Far better than some of the artists out there today! Someone is missing out on this guy!
Still one of my favorite songs. Never gets old.
One of the most amazingly beautiful songs ever, my favorite song by David Nail!
anyone who has that one song that makes you cry or so overwhelmed with feeling you feel like you could pass out understands this song
the power of a song when it hits you right. she will probably never read this but this song hits me right and I miss the one I lost more than anything else in the world I will always love you Beth
I've listened to this song for about 10 times in the past two days. Amazing song and I love the piano. He is super talented
Phil Vassar in an incredible song writer. So many hits, so little recognition.
He truly is. When you go to his concert, you say, "Wait, he wrote that too?"
you are right.he has an ok voice, but he can write.
Yes he is...Phil is awesome
This new world is all about "twerk"
That's david nail not Phill vasar
Your music has ‘cut through the noise’ for me more times than I could say. I have shed both happy and sad tears listening to your music. Thank you for your work.
country radio should be ashamed at themselves that this song only went to 39.When song like red solo cup and why ya wanna can still be top 10 hits while this song barely cracks top 40 is beyond ridiculous
Such a Fantastic Song!! who hasn't played a song that made you pull over and Cry, then drive on after a little while, just to believe it was a song like this, that fuels the greatest heart♡of all time!...So heart felt!
Just lovely, God, this is wonderful! So glad I was perusing CMT the other night.
I'm here 6am , this song is beautiful, David I wish your heart , family, and life peace and the true feeling of gratefulness, that's where happiness 😊 comes from, a real winner of many things💚
One of those songs where you hear each day and it sounds brand new.......love Davids music!
Wow, how have I never heard of him??? Beautiful!
It's not burning up the radio because it's such a good song they people don't want to over-play it. So it's like not eating yer fave candy in a really long time- it makes it that much sweeter when you finally get it :)
The next Keith Urban. Mark my words. Never heard another artist that was in touch with the human spirit.
I absolutely love this song! So beautiful -- the song "and" his voice. What an incredible gift.
Love him. Incredible artist. Nothing better than a songwriter who has a voice like this.
Seger was singing words I could believe in
And "Main Street" was my street that night
So I called up Samantha and asked her the
Chance of us running out 'neath the moonlight
Well, she's not with me now, she can always be found
When I rewind the radio dial
And like it was then, I feel her on my skin
And I'm back there for awhile
So I labor for hours 'cause I know the power
Of a song when a song hits you right
Pouring my soul into stories of life
Hoping someone'll hear one tonight
Maybe my voice will cut through the noise
And stir up an old memory
And out of these piano keys
Comes the sound, the sound of a million dreams
My 18th summer I was a cocky up-and-comer
Cranking up "Born to Run"
Turned left out the drive with the pistons
Open wide
And I came back a Prodigal Son
My spirit was broken, she threw the door open
I love you not, I told you so
When I hear "Mama Tried" I still break down
And cry
And pull to the side of the road
So I labor for hours 'cause I know the power
Of a song when a song hits you right
Pouring my soul into stories of life
Hoping someone'll hear one tonight
Maybe my voice will cut through the noise
And stir up an old memory
And out of these piano keys
Comes the sound, the sound of a million dreams
So I labor for hours 'cause I know the power
Of a song when a song hits you right
Pouring my soul into stories of life
Hoping someone'll hear one tonight
Maybe my voice will cut through the noise
And stir up an old memory
And out of these piano keys
Comes the sound, the sound of a million dreams
The Sound of a Million Dreams
Was that Chris Hicky directing music videos in the Background?
I Can't Belive This Song Is Not Alwyas On The Radio. It Makes Me Smile Every Time I Listen To It. (:
This song makes me cry when ever i listen to it, the power of a song is about that song or those songs that rekindle of our spirit, revitalize of our relationships, refine our hearts and redefine our lives
I can't stop listening to this song and I usually don't like slow country songs. David's dad was our band teacher at NMCC high school and it's pretty awesome that he's in this video.
WOW there are not many songs in life that make me cry, but this one is a complete tearjerker for me. It brought back so many personal memories of my own, I shuddered after each chorus,. This song hits me right for sure. Way to go David!!!
Love this song! It's so beautiful & meaningful. Beats the hell out of me why it didn't climb any higher on the charts!
This is my favorite song by David although I gotta say I like everything he does. Hope one day to have an opportunity to meet and greet him at a show.
This video is the Alabama theater in Birmingham. Beautiful venue for concerts and movies. Make sure you visit if you are in the area.
Man I saw him in concert recently and so disappointed he did not play this song. It is my favorite.
The Words are more meaningful than anything ive heard in a while. His songs do stir up memories in me, very true, I appreciate his music and this song a lot.
My favorite. Saw him perform this at Joe's bar in Chicago 10 years ago. They recorded the show, but I'm not even sure what happened to it. It's a moment thats always suck with me on how music can really move you. Especially when the base I turned up on this one.
I think the old man in the video is the teacher at the beginning. So cool, and heartfelt. Love the video.
just googled his hits. forget ! from red light to what ever she’s got to this song underrated keep playing
I wish this man was marketed better,,, he is VERY underrated and it's sad we don't hear him on country "thump-N-bump" radio!!!
I love country music, and it's awesome that David is one of us, so to speak. But he sings songs, and has the voice, to be a superstar in any genre of music he wants. You don't have to love country music to be a David Nail fan.
David does an awesome job delivering this song, and is under rated, but it was written by Phil Vassar, who has a pretty amazing delivery as well.
This song "hit me right" Thanks David Nail!
Goosebumps, all kinds of feels for this song.
One of the best country songs written in awhile.
very deep song. it takes you places you can barely remember and then the memorys flood out leaveing you with a bittersweet smile.
I absolurely love this song! Thank you for singing it David Beautiful voice!!!!!! :)
This is one of the greatest songs music has ever produced !
Love David Nail! I absolutely love this song, I listen to it over and over again! =)
This is one of those songs that just stick out more then others because the music and the words mean alot. Love it
this song is the music that is missing from today's far and few musicians! please keep up the great work, your music stirs the soul and inspires.
I love this song. It signifies a lot of things for millions. Myself among them.
This man is pure talent most underrated voice smooth as silk .
Your voice is the sound of dreams from GOD 😊❤
He has a wonderful voice and handsome face, I think he looks like a younger Vin Gill. Another Honey with a GREAT country voice!!
Victoria W TOTALLY, A YOUNG VINCE GILL!! AMAZING VOICE!
Hello David Nail..that was so soulful..me and my talent just loved it..🇱🇷♥️
Beyond underrated. David Nail should be all over the charts. I really hope more people discover this gem of an artist. Keep going, David. Love from Chennai, India.
can't believe this is not burning up the radio!
he just "Nailed It" on the Opry!
Strong vocals with the simplicity of a piano. that's all you need.
One of the most beautiful songs ever! Love it....
My Favorite Song In The WHOLE WIDE WORLD!
I don't understand why David is not bigger than he is.... Like rcrews said but I think he is the most underrated artist in country music history. Memphis is an awesome song like this one and no fing air play. I dont get it... David you need new management bro. Glad I got to meet you in Kearney MO in 2011.
Cried. Literally. Beautiful music and lyrics.
Your a amazing artist David nail . Your a artist that speaks through songs good job your father should always be proud of you
I heard this song and can't get enough of it. Every song on his new album is fantastic. I had a chance to see him live in Cincinnati, David is the man!
Amazing song and great video! You know a song has touched a chord in you when you get the chills
kso .. i saw this guy open up for Billy Currington .. when he preformed this song.. it sounded really good ! the reason why im commenting on this video is to tell you guys that if u ever have a chance to see David Nail, i highly suggest you do. he puts his heart and soul in every one of his songs. And this song is amazing :)
We can't go back and undo the past. But we can go back in our memories. Nothing or no one can rob of us or our past or memories. That's the beauty of life and love. No matter where we are in our lives, we have those memories that no one can take away from us!
You broke my heart the more I listen the more I feel the story, let's bring David Letterman out of retirement, I'm sure he remembers your name.
