- Summer is here, and ABBA is celebrating. Björn was out and about in Stockholm, and ABBA released a new 4K version of the music video for "Summer Night City". Let’s dive in, talk about the news, and compare the new 4K restoration to the old version.

Pet Shop Boys, INXS, Whitesnake and Queen among others had released their video clips on blu ray...so, maybe in some time we'll see that happen with ABBA too.

I'm a huge fan of Summer Night City. My comment on that video earned the most positive 'thumbs up' 😀. Björn's interview was great! My only wish is that someone would interview Benny the same way. Because without Benny, there would be no music at all.
I'm also a huge fan of the song, especially the live Wembley version.
The new 4K video really highlights the incredible beauty of Agnetha and Frida that was present in this video! Filled me with so much joy and emotion. I sure do hope they do all the remaining videos.
"Summer Night City" is such an underrated track. The video looks great in 4K. I love the part near the beginning where Agnetha is swishing her arms around like she's swimming and Frida is behind her spinning in a circle.
Midsommar was traditionally celebrated on June 24th, Johanni, and is now celebrated between the 20th and 26th of June on the respective Saturday to allow all Swedes to celebrate and not have Midsommar in the middle of the week.. I remember when I was a teenager I dreamt about celebrating midsommar in Sweden, cause the 24th of June happens to be my birthday.. so I’m a midsommar barn. As for Summer Night City I think it’s look ms cool but missing the small intro too. It is my absolute favorite abba video and along with Eagle my favorite abba song. I love the atmosphere of the song and would love to hear those other mixes that exist somewhere in the depth of ABBA’s archives. What is mentioned seldomly that for my ears the song has three lead singers. Björn‘s vocals are very prominent and even sometimes in the forefront. Love the hypnotic arrangement.
Always wondered why Benny & Bjorn weren’t happy with the mixing of the track, it’s one of my favourites & I love the extended version of the song. The 4K version looks amazing, so bright & crisp.. I would expect that the restoration of Abbas hits would be released as a new Abba Gold compilation. I’m still hoping for a series of Abbas songs with all the different mixes we’ve heard & of course the eventual release of ‘Just Like That’ for the fans… Great video BB, thank you..

The neon ligt ib SNC-video you refer to as an "R" in the video is the logo for Silja Line. A shipping company operating passenger ships between Sweden, Finland and (now but not at the time of filming) Estonia. Great video again !

I listened to the Rosebud interview with Bjorn and it was a departure from most of the standard Q & A he gets. It was great. Loved learning about his childhood in Sweden and the Swedish way of life. Good interview!

Such a great episode, as always. I had already watched the 4K a couple of times, but after this ep., I went back and rewatched and saw all the things you pointed out. Marvellous.
There is still a real thrill to me in watching this video. It didn't do as well in the British charts (peaking at #5) and so we only got a couple of plays on Top of the Pops, which was our only way in the UK of seeing ABBA videos. Take a Chance on Me and Name of the Game, by contrast, had been #1 for 3 weeks and 4 weeks respectively, so we at least got to see them more often. I also never imagined, aged 12, that I would ever actually visit Stockholm and see those beautiful locations!
It's also kind of fascinating to see the after-life of Summer Night City, which is one of the absolute highlights of Voyage, while Take a Chance on Me and Name of the Game are absent.
just had ABBA day 23/06/2024 in Melbourne & The ABBA choir from ABBA museum Sweden performed & partied with us afterwards was a great day & evening started approximately 10.30 am finished 11.30 pm

I love everything Abba, I was born in 1973, and remember listening to Abba on the radio, I never got to go to a concert though , truly wish I had, I would so love to go to London to see the voyage concert with the Abbatars, I have seen many tribute bands here in the UK and while they're a great thing to watch, only Abba is the best, I really thought I was going to marry Bjorn when I grew up! and of course my Dad was in love with Agnetha! but that was ok since Mum was in love with David Essex anyway. Love these video's the pictures, stories and info you share, what's not to love about Abba!

I have been to Voyage 3 times. If you can, try very hard to go see it. It's amazing!!!

Hello BB, you haven't been here for a long time. In the meantime, on June 18, ABBA on RUclips gained its 5 millionth subscriber, which is good news because it's the year of the 50th anniversary of the victory in Brighton. Another bit of sad news that went unnoticed is that after ABBA was awarded the Order of Vasa, the members of ABBA said that this was probably their last meeting together. I hope they're wrong.
5th million subscriber,yeah!I've been watching this since 2021.Before Voyage new songs they had less that 3 millions,must have been around 2,7.Also the GGG video has gained some more million views very quickly within a month, (461millions) up to now 2nd most viewed video after DQ.
Björn said this might be the last time.they come together (all 4) like that, in public. And that might be true, nobody knows yet. Time will tell. Of course they are going to see each other, at least the three in Sweden. It was just a reflection he had, not a statement, so not much to report on or discuss, it might and it might not be the case. 🙂

I’m really surprised with the opening of the new 4K version. The original opening synced so well with the song kicking in as the visual zoomed in as well to the tighter shot of the street and the headlights of the car. That really stood out to me and I’m perplexed as to why that was changed in the new 4K version. Thank you Bobby’s Brother for your balanced and honest evaluation and I totally relate to your point of how these videos and songs are so intrinsically etched in our ABBA fan DNA’s. What might seem trivial to someone else can be an emotional connection to others. While I am not the biggest fan of “Summer Night City”, I definitely see your points regarding the new 4K version, particularly the aforementioned opening scene.

Yes, I was hoping and still are for the entire new edition of 4K HD remastered ABBA greatest hits videos blu ray edition, possibly with the second disc of some live concerts.. Maybe Universal also thinks about it now, with all those ABBA videos remasters.. Would be a great deal, what do you think? Anyway, thank you for sharing , I didn't know about the new SNC video 👍
What you say BB is so true when you say ,you can see and feel the differences in the videos and arrangements in their music not only on Summer Night City new 4K but on any of their alternative music videos or arrangements in other TV appearances,it is just that ABBA has morphed into our mind and heart but especially our souls that they are one with us and sentinent in our beings,we can feel them in us and alterations and changes are obvious,pretty cool huh,that's the beauty of ABBA and doesn't it make you feel GOOD.
Ich liebe Summer Night City, aber nur mit dem instrumentalen Intro. Wo nun auch das Auto alter Schule aus dem Intro weg ist, möchte ich das deutsche Wort verschlimmbessern benutzen. Da ist es (mir) dann auch egal, dass man jetzt die einzelnen Backsteine der Bauten sieht...

So what we're seeing is not a restoration, it is an entirely new recreation from the original elements.

One of my favorits ABBA songs and video its very special for me.I like the fact that in the new version everything including them looks more fresh but I dont like the darker colors.I just noticed that Frida is taller than Benny?

I had read that both gurls were 1.72cm without heels.Pretty good compared to other past/present female celebs that are kinda dwarfed by the Swedes(JLO,Kylie,Madonna,Nicki Minaj,etc)
One of my favourite songs and videos yet I didn’t know that was a letter R. Does it relate to a nightclub?
Makes you wonder if some late edits were made to the video, that were lost? Or was the original footage all completely re-edited from scratch. Probably not, I’d just like to know how these things are done

i recently read that Bjorn was asked decades later about it and he cleared it out it wasn't the kinda misheard 'F' word .I damn can't remember but without being sure i think the info came from Carl Magnuss Palm.

Bobby’s Brother, try and compare the new 4K video to the version on More ABBA Gold. I think there are differences with that version as well.
At least two of the Bjorn pics were taken in London, and Brandreth is a well-known English personality, so I don't think it's an entirely Swedish Summer Night City....

Took me ages to find the 4K version until I realised that they must have uploaded the 4K version over the top of the old one. Quite bizzare and very confusing. Says uploaded 14 years ago!! So, where is the old version? Gone forever?

lol,In some scene they pretented they were quarelling.Frida storming in the street and Benny cute and smart acting like a charming lil boy.Love that bit in the clip.

Bjorn recently said he hates the name ABBA and wish they chose the song they originally wanted, northern lights. Interesting that he also hated the name of his earlier band, the hootenanny singers!
Never mind,ABBA is better,sounds brief and easy to be pronounced even by a lil kid and is now crowned with all the glorious history it carries.We love ABBA.
