Senior 6’4 238 lbs
North Carolina State LB Payton Wilson is a tackle machine. He’s as complete of a defensive prospect you can find. He’s a freakish athletic defensive playmaker, but doesn’t get enough credit for it. He’s probably my favorite defensive draft prospect & looks like the kind of player who starts from day one. He's the fastest LB in this year's draft. He confirmed it by running a 4.43 forty yard dash.

Kind of hate the tendency to ALWAYS have to compare a player to a guy of the same race as well, but I think Kuechly is probably a fair one, although, in terms of football IQ, those are tough shoes to fill if we are comparing him to Luke. Wilson is that tackling machine type though.
Whomever gets this kid will get a player.
@@chocolatetownforever7537Yea that’s annoying I see Frank Warner from 49ers very similar build, both play like hair is on fire and both extremely athletic for size. He the clear number 1 LB in pretty good class of guys. Luke is not a horrible comparison though like you said. Heck I think you could compare Frank to Luke to each other as well.
I would love him in Commaders uniform heck our new GM the one who drafted Frank get you another one for this team. We haven’t had a linebacker I could truly trust since London Fletcher. Guy was a true pro and class act along with being a great player was a tackling machine.

All that guy did was make tackles, in whatever scheme or team he played on. Because of his size, he wasnt appreciated as much as I think he should have been.

I've watched every game he's ever played in college. I've never seen a defensive player dominate a game for NC State like Wilson. Even Bradley Chubb wasn't wrecking defenses like he does. It felt like he was involved in every play. Wherever the ball was payton wilson was either already there or about to be. If he wasn't an older player with an injury history he would be pushing top ten in the draft. He reminds me of Micah Parsons as a prospect in that he can do literally everything you want from a linebacker, and I don't make that comparison lightly.
My favorite thing about him as a player was that he turned it up a notch during rivalry games. Ask a UNC fan about Payton Wilson. Ask a Clemson fan about Payton Wilson. If your favorite team drafts this guy your division rivals are going to HATE him
Now just imagine if the cowboys draft him in the 2nd round ! They need a true inside linebacker to pair with Clark and sometimes Parsons when he plays linebacker. That would be a scary duo!!!
In no Universe is this guy a top 10 draft pick. He’s a solid player though.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a 49er. Greenlaw could miss most of the season, coming off a major injury and it’s a contract year. They also recently addressed their dline. Basically have RT and LB as biggest needs.
You need to watch more football or get your eyes checked.

3:29 is amazing. Sheds two blockers to get to the ball carrier in the back field. That’s stuff you want to see
Go watch his chase down tackle vs Louisville. Probably my favorite play I've seen on his tape. Was a big gain but he was 10 yards behind LOS, opposite side of field, ran 50 yards down field & somehow ran by everyone to make the tackle.
Super impressive. Shows the high motor guy he is. Pure effort.

One word that comes to mind when watching him: BALLER. That is how you play the pos. of a Linebacker.
Deserves to go late first or early second but the age and injury history makes that tough. If the medicals are clear though I wouldnt be shocked to see a team take that chance on him, the talent and instinct PW has is undeniable. Will miss him in Raleigh for sure

Injury history (which I'm not worried about personally) will probably drop his draft stock. Only thing that sucks, both of our teams pick in the back end of each round.

Born April 21, 2000. Played high school football for the Orange Panthers (NC). Played college football for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Drafted #99 by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Who knows? Maybe he can help revive the Steel Curtain Defense. As I post this, it is August 1. Tonight is the NFL Hall of Fame Game which kicks off the season. Maybe one year, Payton will hear his name called. I'm sure he is a shoe in for the College Football Hall of Fame and the NC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Look at his physique it’s not really muscular, just really long and his lower body doesn’t seem that strong if you watch some of his tackling. He’s going to be on a NFL strength, conditioning, and diet which means he’s going to add more muscle, which means more weight. Which makes him even more dangerous

I got tears in my eyes watching the great PW highlights, knowing I will never see him in the Red & White again. The injury history is overrated. He is an absolute beast. NFL offensive coordinators should rightfully be pissing their pants right now.

As an old Steelers fan, this guy reminds me a lot of a modern day Jack Lambert. Tall, rangy, athletic, good in coverage.

I think he measured at senior bowl 238lbs which has him a bit lighter than you want but he is more instinctual than all this class has to offer.
