Well, there is not much left of that timing is there? I figured it out myself in the meantime. I recommend the AIO Docker image. It is very easy to set up and unlike the snap package does not restrict it's capabilities much. TechHut made a good video about it.

This is one of the few privacy protection measures I have yet to implement. Looking forward to the series.

NC is by far my most used docker app, all it needs is a desktop app or have the web UI be more efficient. other than that its a really solid app.
I started using NC back when it was called OwnCloud. When I was ready to make the upgrade I did a fresh install on a VM on my FreeNAS server. Seemed to work fine until I tried installing plugins. Every time it broke the installation. I deleted the VM and started over several times with the same result. These are their official plugins so they should work, but don't. I finally gave up and stayed with my old OC server on a RasPI. I haven't updated that one in years because it's a real hassle.
Bottom line: NC is not for the feint of heart. I hope it has improved over the last year and I will be watching this series with interest.
Good luck. (It's easier than you might think.) If nextcloud is too tricky on a [single board computer + NAS on your LAN] my qnap NAS let me install ownCloud at the click of a button.

+1. Looking forward. The hosting of NC isn't really all the intimidating after getting a simple domain self hosted. I think most would find securely configuring a web server, the biggest hurdle, and firewall and (D)DOS mitigation other security items rivaling that.

Hello 👋 If someone chose a provider to host next cloud for you how would that differ from proton mail for things like pictures and files?
Looks good I did make a online server 20 years ago & a cluster but it was a pain & an unbelievable amount of work it will be nice if this is simpler.
Need more videos in the playlist. hehehe.... anxiously waiting for it.

Top priority to explain IMHO, end to end, zero knowledge encryption. Not all nextcloud hosts implement it and even in a self hosted (vps or own) is the way to prevent your data to be seized.

Got myself a cheap refurbished pc to setup a simple home server. Struggled for 2 days to make nextcloud work due to my limited understanding on linux. Tried uploading pictures from my phone only to later get constant notifications that files failed to upload. Nextcloud showed the folder files were being uploaded to but after some time couldn't find them anywhere despite disk space being used. Thought to myself that maybe I don't know how to use it properly and should look up a tutorial on using it properly. Found this video. There is no second video.

I suggest learning to set it up yourself. It took some time for me but it's a very rewarding process.

NEXTCLOUD
Very excited for this series! I started playing around with NC a few weeks ago, got a nice little instance set up on an old repurposed laptop with Ubuntu server 20.04, isolated on its own little intranet courtesy of an old extra router.
Kind of a pain to use atm because of that, just really intimidated by setting up a domain and SSL and https... Getting it to a point where it can face the internet, but still be secure enough.
Please more simple and advanced Nextcloud tutorials!
