      Crytomanor isn't free and open source, it is open source, but you have to pay a premium to even use it. It has licensing keys which will be asked when you open the apk. You have to pay 10 dollars to even use it. So I would reccomend you edit the misinformation. Is it necessary to sponsor a paid product since all the users who use it needs to pay for it?

    Nice review, but as someone involved in cryptography I find the term "zero-knowledge" misleading.
    I'm certain that no provider is truly zero-knowledge simply because all current zero-knowledge solutions are impractical.
    A real zero-knowledge solution wouldn't allow the provider to learn any metadata such as individual file sizes and access pattern to files.

    • @njpme
      @njpme 2 года назад +1

      @@renatosardinhalopes6073 it's another hassle, but that's what I do with sensitive medical, financial and other personal documents that i have in digital form. I encrypt in with a long randomly generated password, then upload it to google drive and onedrive. The purpose is so that I'm the only one that can read my data. Without encryption, Google or Microsoft could possibly read my data since they have the encryption key. They're the one encrypting ever data on their server.

  • @magw0lf72
    @magw0lf72 Год назад +1

    As much as I'd love to use a zero-knowledge encryption cloud service, I've found that I'm not comfortable managing those keys myself. Zero-knowledge encryption can put your very important data at risk of loss if you aren't confident in your own ability to manage and maintain those keys. I personally use cloud backups as part of my 3-2-1 backup plan with my NAS and an external hard drive as the other 2 pieces. If my house burns down, and I need to recover my files from my cloud provider, I don't have to worry about whether or not I have my keys. For me, the trade-off is worth it because I need those files if something catastrophic happens. Maybe not the exact scenario that this video was addressing, but felt that I should mention it as a possible concern.

    For those who is wondering about the Ice Drive cloud. I signed them just after this video, I was in a really emergency need for a cloud.
    I was using Ice Drive for about 2 months, I just cancelled their services. I do not recommend. For it's price, you think this is a professional and working product, but really still in development mode.
    To upload something in the cloud is awful, is slow in everyway, makes you want to give up.
    The videoplayer is slow, half the times doesn't work. Is not possível to see subtitles too. The same applies to read some.
    You can't use this app as a backup for you Android neither. What's the point of having this app then?
    Summing up: NOTHING WORKS AS ITS SUPPOSED TO.
    I hope to have helped somebody with my comment and horrible mistake.

    Nextcloud has a few big issues and it definitely shouldn't be number one. If you aren't a highly technical person just forget self hosting it. I'm a full stack web dev and spent way to much time working out the bugs. Second, their phone app sucks! Like really bad. It's slow, UI is just meh, opening a file seems to download it again(?), if you use the auto upload for things like your phone pictures it COPIES them to its own directory thereby DOUBLING the amount of space your pictures will take on your phone. No thanks.

    That 1.56€/TB/month is the most disingenuous bullshit I ever remember seeing in online retail! There isn't even a 1 TB purchase plan, and the plan they advertise those cheap terabytes with actually costs 299€ for an entire year with 16 TB of storage.
    Thanks but no fucking thanks!
    "Hello Average Joe, can I interest you in this ordinary product right here?"
    "Sure, it looks just like what I'm looking for! How much?!"
    "Only 1.56€ with a purchase of sixteen."
    "SIXTEEN?! Are you fucking mad?! Why the hell would I need 16?! You said one!"

    You guys are a bit too normie for my taste, haha. To me Kim Dotcom's history is a big plus and lends much more credibility than Proton. But I still love you of course, great work! :)

    5:10 protonmail gave encryption keys to the Swiss government when they asked so that's an immediate L

      @Bon's Scott Both of you are wrong on the details.
      Protonmail was forced to log and give the *Swiss Government* a *French Activist's* IP address. The French agency that made the demand abused an international system, through Europol, that was intended for extreme situations, such as child trafficking and terrorism, to bypass digital protection laws and catch an activist.
      No encryption keys were handed over, and Protonmail made a public statement afterwards that, "if you need to protect your identity from a government, only access protonmail through Tor." No company can refuse a demand from law enforcement to log and hand over an individual's IP address. They'd be breaking the law.
      The only information handed over was
      1. date of account creation.
      2. ip addresses used to access account.
      3. devices used to log in
      Nothing else was sent, because nothing else could be sent.

    Icedrive and pcloud both are useless 👎,
    If put files or photos in encrypted drive then you can't share link, or becomes hard to find photos and file

    • @TonyKelly

      if you want to share, then don't encrypt. this is common sense.

      @@TonyKelly without encrypt, they are not safe, then why I will pay for cloud drive that is not safe ( they put all safety features in encrypted drive)
