Right, that's mostly how Americans make mashed potatoes. In Germany we only add milk and some butter and a little bit of nutmeg to mashed potatoes, so that's a bit different from here.
Kartoffelbrei auf Brot 🤔 Never heard of it, but as a German I know anything with Potato, homemade Bread and a beer on the side will be good 😊 Can't wait to try this, possibly adding some fresh Dill and Chives 😋
The original name of this dish is "Kartoffel Kas" and that originally means that something is mashed and mixed with potatoes. "Kas" in the Bavarian dialect means something similar to "roughly mixed". But there is also the word "Käs" which is a short form of Käse, which means cheese. So, over time, the name of the recipe has become Kartoffel Käse ... Potato Cheese ... in most German speaking regions. So, it's basically a misunderstanding in Germany, due to dialect, that resulted in this name and not the (missing) ingredient cheese.
Hi, I don't think I know that, can you describe it? Maybe I know it with a different name since meals have different names in different regions of Germany.
@@MyGermanRecipesI am thinking they mean the meat people put in donner kebabs which originated with Turkish immigrants in Germany but don’t rally exist as such in the country of Turkey.
I thought I would share with you, that they have Oktoberfest Beer Glass Mugs from Paulaner at Spec's Liquor Store. It comes with a huge can of Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier inside the Mug. Prost 🍻

Never heard of this recipe before. Have friends who like a mashed potato sandwich. This is a step up.

This looks fantastic, can’t wait to try it tomorrow.
Sehr Gute!
Looks delicious, I think also if you were to put chopped chives in, very tasty.
Yes, that would be my preference, too.
Can you share a video of the bread as well? It looks amazing!
In this case I used a German bread mix that I brought to Texas from my last vacation.
Yum!
So mash potatoes on toast? 😊 sounds delicious!
It's mashed potatoes with lots of sour cream, onions and spices, yeah it does taste good on fresh baked bread.

So is it called potato cheese because it looks a bit like a spreadable cheese? Looks tasty!

Oh, do you mean Döner Kebab? That is very typical in Germany but is Turkish. I love that, too, but it's so messy to eat 😄

As long as you don't go over level 2 on the spiciness, they are fantastic.
