Thanks. The yellow tip bit is a 1/4 Cove/Corebox. It's a standard carbide bit, part of a cheap set I saw on Amazon. $11/US for six bits. Thought I would see how well it holds up. Did surprisingly well. Here's a link if you want to check it out.

I have been a hobbyist wood worker for a long, long time, and I'm about to pull the trigger on a CNC machine.
I've got it narrowed down to 3 machines and the Genmitsu 4030 is one of them.
Where I keep falling off of the turnip truck is this:
When you place a flat image into your software, (Let's say a Navy Anchor as I was in the Navy), how does the machine know or compute how to
raise the bit in some areas and lower it in others, thus giving the image a '3D' effect ?
Thanks very much for an explanation.

You will need the software program to convert the image to a 3d model or use one that was already created. Then use the software again to convert the model into gcode format which gives the machine commands on its movement to carve the 3d model. There are many other different programs to use, such as Fusion360, Vcarve, etc but I use Carveco.

@@windsorwoodcraft Thanks for your kind reply.
I've heard of terms such as 'GRBL' , 'Vcarve' and 'AutoCad' but didn't know that one language was to capture the image and one to convert it into a digital code. (I'm 70 years old, so...... lol )
      You do nice work.
      Thanks again.

@@stephenenglebright Thanks. Glad to help any way I can. I'm not an expert by any means and had more than my share of failures. I'm just having fun with what it as a hobby and sharing some of things you can do with it. If you are on Facebook, there are many community cnc groups if you haven't found them already. It's another good source for information on different types of machines and projects, etc. That's what got me interested in it in the beginning.
