Is this capable of doing 3-D carving? I am interested in purchasing one like this, but I got to know I haven’t seen anything that anybody has displayed a 3-D carving with this particular model.
@StephenPearson-o1o It is definitely capable of 3d carving. You just need the software that is capable of generating the 3d toolpaths, like vcarve or carveco, etc.
When it comes to 4th axis milling from 3d stl , how much would you recommend it?
@AuditiveRelease I actually haven't don't have a 4th axis or even tried it yet, but from what I've seen, it's capable of carving some nice things with it. Guess it just depends on what you want to do with it.
Excellent video worthy of much more attention 👏👏 Liked&subscribed to do my little bit to help your channel. Best wishes and thanks from Warsaw. Poland
I purchased this unit and I successfully did my first test with my name; it worked. However, now I’m having problems with finding home and getting my project to engrave where I want it. I am using a fully licensed copy of LightBurn. The software could not find my device. I connect manually and the first project is the only thing that went well. I am wondering the connection is correct, because the device does not do what i tell it to do. I am feeling discouraged about my ability to operate this machine when I do fairs. If you can help me get setup with the software, if you think it is a software issue; it would be greatly appreciated.
@llkaygifts Is this light on the front of the machine blinking? If the laser shield is not completely closed, the light will blink and the machine will not home, and the laser head will not move
Is there an air purifier for this? I’m not seeing one on the page.
I think the one for L8 machine might be compatible with the kiosk. I did see a reference to a purifier for the kiosk on their website before I made the video, but now I'm not seeing it either.
I'm waiting for mine to be delivered, I emailed Genmitsu to ask about the air purifier, they replied that it doesn't need one 🤷♀️
@ thanks. I’d love to hear what you think about it when you get it.
Is there a parts list I can check out man?
Nice, im thinking about getting one. Does it have air pump in the machine like the L8 or you have to purchase it separately? I don't want to be upgrading another machine (with the 4040pro I had enough xD)
It does not have a separate air pump. It's more of a passive air assist in which the air is provided by the fan on top of the laser module and blows down through the laser cone at the bottom. It does provide a good amount of air, just not from a nozzle or air tube.
@@windsorwoodcraft Thank you for your reply, I wasn't sure watching the video. Cool, so for the use: laser personalization on little items at marketplaces its good with the blown air. Nice price also tho. Thanks man! I think im going with the L8 for the larger engraving area.
The L8 is a nice machine too, I have the 20watt version. Been using it a lot.
@@windsorwoodcraft yes I think I saw it in the background, you have a pretty good collection of machines, good to hear that is nice.
What software do you use ?
I use the Lightburn software ton run the laser.
Excellent video. Probably one of the best I’ve seen. Showing the actual speed and the bit information…very helpful. I do have a couple of questions. Is this an indoor machine or outside far away from people due to noise. How loud is it? Do you need hearing protection? You did not have the vacuum connected for the acrylic and metal. Was there a specific reason or just didn’t want it on? What brand bits did you use for the acrylic and wood? Thank you for your time and for the video.
Thanks. I have the machine in my garage workshop, which is below the living room area of my house, but I live alone so I don't have to worry about disturbing anyone. It can be very loud, depending on what type of material that you are cutting. The router is probably on the same decibel level as a portable shop vacuum. Hearing protection is a good idea. I didn't use the dust collector mainly so that it would be easier to see the bit cutting the material as the dust boot will cover the view of the router bit while cutting. And also that it was a relatively short project. Would definitely use the dust collector for larger or longer projects. Personally, I like to use the Spe - Tool brand of bits, they are a good quality and not quite as expensive as other brands.
did you receive this machine for free ?
Does it come with the dust shroud?
It does not come with a dust shoe. Sainsmart sells a dust shoe to fit the router but, the one I use in the video is from carbide 3d.
Great job! Only thing, and I'm not sure if I missed it, but how long for each material?
How is the machine rigidity/precision wise? I'm thinking extending mine to 1515.
I’m Jimmy it’s new to me so I would like to know the different software I can use to make any project
There are several options to use to design projects. Carveco, Vcarve and Easel are the most common that I have used. Each one is a little different and each has a different cost associated with it , but they all work well. There may be other software programs, but these three are the ones that I have used.
What software to get my CNC to do that sweeping motion cause it currently is slow as shit
For the laser I use lightburn. You should be able to set your feed rate for the cnc/laser machine that you have, but it would also be limited to whatever the maximum feed rate is for the motors on the machine.
Can this cut the bottom of sneaker rubber soles?
Good question, I have not tried cutting rubber with a cnc machine. But I imagine it could be possible with a small bit such as a 1/16th inch end mill or if the rubber is really dense. I don't think soft rubber would cut too well.
Great job. Neet idea. I need to make some of those for my grand daughters for Christmas.
@@JRBCustomDesigns Thanks! The coin banks are a fun project to make.
Are you running factory acceleration settings, or did you bump those up?
I was using the factory settings.
that sounds like chatter/vibration central station. I have a smaller unit I bought from them before I bought a massive machine. It vibrates so badly it sounds like a dremel on crack.
There was no chatter that I noticed. The aluminum profile pass had a plunge cut on each pass instead of a ramp motion so it made a noise on the plunge for each pass.
I don’t know why they didn’t put better motors!? Those baby open step motors should be Closed Loop Nema 23 for being Ball Screw Linear rails. 😢
I prefer to choose the Masuter 3S.
@@natechan2586 even with the belt system?
@@natechan2586 I agree!
@@oscarmayorga7461 I think so.
Those tiny steppers are the reason I'm saving up for an altmill. I've upgraded my 4040 to a 4060 and put a 300w spindle. Still doesn't meet my needs.
Thank you, you answered most of my questions.
Bunny and egg where do i get that file? Thanks.
I think I purchased this file on Etsy.
What software is best for this model?
Lightburn is probably the best choice for this machine.
This is awesome. I've seen other videos of people really struggling with aluminum on this machine but I feel like its solid enough if you don't go crazy with the speed.
Thanks for the comment. It is a very capable machine for aluminum if you take it easy on the speed and depth of cut and also have a decent quality endmill.
Can you cut 1/8 in plywood with this if so what is the speed and power settings
I have cut 1/8 Baltic birch plywood with this machine. I think the setting were 10 inches per minute at 90% power.
Hello I ordered the 40 watt version, upon inspection I noticed I was not able to distinguish between the 40 watt version from what I see online. Is there a way to confirm that my module is 40 Watts? Thanks in advance
There should be a label on the back of the machine with the laser information on it.
@@windsorwoodcraft Thank you
Nice review - thank you.
Just take a look at the machine from the front your z axes looks to be on a slant to the right
Must be the angle of the photo or something.
You'll find that the E-Stop only stops the flow of g-code to the controller. All buffered data will complete. So, not really a E-Stop.
I like mine so far, had it for 3 days now, Where is that vibration coming from? I cannot track it down, I think its from the outer frame and echo underthe spoilboard. .... I am just installing some 2040 extrusion underneath the spoilboard, should rigid it up a bit and remove the sag. Im still waiting for some bits to be delivered so im stuck with the lame engraver bits included with machine. So far have engraved Red Oak, and Bamboo Flooring, Do you think this Z axis would handle a Dewalt DW660?_
The vibration could be from the spoilboard since there is no center support. I haven't notice any vibrations so far in the few projects that I have done with it. I think the Z axis should be able to handle a Dewalt router because they also sell an upgraded spindle mount for a 65-69mm router that will fit this machine.
Great video, well done. Question what is the dimensions of the enclosure? Also is that laser protect plastic cover?
Thanks. These are the dimensions copied from the Sainsmart website, 26.85 x 24.41 x 13.50in. These are the dimensions of the enclosure only, the exhaust port and the cords/switches on the front add about another 5 or 6 inches to the overall depth of the workbench space needed for operation of the machine. The orange acrylic enclosure is laser safe.
Can you please do one try out with one marbel stone
I have some marble coasters that I can show the machine engraving a design.
Is possivel cut 9 mm marbel stone?
It will engrave marble but it would not be able to cut through marble.
👀 'promo sm'
I was thinking of getting x tool but now I will be getting one of these thanks for the video
Same here..prefer the 40W
Hi - true Novis here - just starting to look at a laser purchase. I noticed that at 8:16 in your video, when you put up the riser legs - it appears that most of that area around the risers is totally open - if that area is open, then it would no longer be a fully enclosed laser - right? How do you exhaust all the smoke and fumes when the risers are up?
It is open all around when using the risers but I have not had any issues with smoke or fumes. Than works pretty good even with the gap at the bottom.
So before starting a job. 1. You home it. 2. Set probe and zero it . ? 3. Bring to corner of board zero that out and set start piont . And click start /send job ???
Correct. Those are the basic steps to start, assuming that you have your job set up correctly to match your starting and zero points in whatever software you are using, like Easel, Carveco etc.
@@windsorwoodcraft ohhh that's probably whats wrong. my job startup point when i use Vcarve pro.
I'm fighting a problem with any cut that take over 5 min the flame sensor goes off and you can't restart frome the stoped position. To me the sesor is too sensitive
That, tighten the belt, clean the rails, lense and cone if that doesn't work.
It gets rid of comments with links. So go to control panel, hardware and devices. Advanced settings. USB device settings. Disable both.
I haven't tried a real long project yet, time wise. But I did notice that when the flame detection goes off, you have to turn off the machine or use the emergency stop and then restart from the beginning. I'm not sure if there is another way around that, but I'll check into it.
And if you're using lightburn, it'll say alarm 3. Missed steps. That's how you'll know It's your USB settings.
one other video i would suggest is how the L8 is in maintenance, such as how easy is it to clean the lenses. also, one constant nitpick i see from the few who reviewed the L8 is the underpowered fan. is it possible to safely swap it with a better one and if so, would it be feasible for you to make a video about it? thank you and i hope for more success for you in your videos!
Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into those things and let you know. I did see a couple of other videos mentioning the fan power of the L8, but I honestly don't think it is under powered. Seems to be pretty good so far. Even if it were underpowered, I would use an inline fan or fume extractor/purifier to boost it.
thank you for this review. most of the new reviews focus on the Mk2 unfortunately and the genmitsu l8 seems to have been neglected. i hope to see more videos of this from you soon. i would like to suggest you test how fine it can engrave or how much detail it can do, since its fixed at 20 watts and not able to switch from 10 to 20 unlike some other brands. though i am happy to find out that it is more powerful than other 20 watt engravers, it would be good to know how it fares with fine engraving.
I definitely plan on more videos with the L8. I will try to come up with an idea to show some fine detail engraving.
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching!
Do you know if its compatible with the 4th axis or the laser rotary?
I think it is compatible with the laser, but not sure about the rotary or 4th axis.
Ok thanks for the info.
Thanks. Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your machine. Sainsmart is usually very responsive when customers are having issues. Hope you get it fixed soon.
Do you have a video on how to tram this machine? I own this machine, and I am ready to make my first cuts, but I am having an issue tramming it. Any assistance would be helpful, or if you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate that a lot.
I don't have a video on tramming the machine, but there are some other channels that do. It's not hard to do, and honestly, I don't know that it's necessary right out of the box unless you intend to do fine machining where specific tolerances are required. I have not trammed mine since I got it, and I haven't noticed it being out of alignment with the projects that I have completed so far.
@@windsorwoodcraft I replaced the stock spindle with a Makita RT0701C router and I wanted to tram it to ensure it was as level/perpendicular as possible, before I make any cuts.
Any idea what the length is on the front and back 2020 extrusions? Lost mine and need replacements!
They are about 20.0625 inches in length.
I added the same Carbide Router. Works great. a side note, I connected the DC wires from the original motor to a DC relay that turns the 120v volt to an outlet that I mounted by the machine. This allows me to have on and off control that works from the program. Ran three programs with no problems. This motor is more robust than the original one and allows deeper cuts and higher feeds
Did you build or purchase the plexiglass dust protectors, if built so do you have plans?
I made the dust shields. I don't have plans but I just bent them with a hot wire acrylic bending bar. A heat gun can also be used to soften the acrylic for bending.
@@windsorwoodcraft Ok, thanks
Great...Can you please tell where the transparent acylic is coming from? :)
The acrylic is something that I purchased at my local hardware store. I bent the acrylic with a hot wire bending bar.
I sit still working well?
Yes, it still works great. No problems with it at all.
I just purchased the XE-PRO, but I'm worry that when I do buy the laser for it, it won't be able to print in color. From my understanding, color is produce on metal based on speed and power. While the XE-PRO is fast for a CNC, it's not very fast as a laser though. Can you confirm? Thanks
I don't have any experience with the XE-Pro but I would guess that it may not be fast enough for all the different shades of color on metal. Depends on what colors you want and the speed needed to obtain those colors.
