I see you are called out a lot on this video for not doing enough research. If you make a follow-up video where you bring up studies on snus/zyn, can you please talk about how much plastic there is in the little pouches and how people just toss them all around in the streets and in nature. It is really damaging because not only does it spread microplastics, but birds and small animals do also eat them.

We have plenty of studies of Snus, there are hundreds of thousands lifelong users of Snus in sweden, and it is basically the same thing. Disclaimer, it's not nearly as harmful as other tobacco products. But it's still nicotine and addictive as such and can enhance the risk of disease. As with sugar and lots of things.

When I was addicted to nicotine from smoking, I wanted to quit and picked up vaping. I was then addicted to vaping. When I wanted to quit vaping, I tried patches. Which didn’t work. I used lozenges which felt like they worked until I weaned to stop using them. The most effective way is to at some point, go cold turkey. The 2nd and final time I quit nicotine, I weaned myself off of vaping by using decreasing doses of lozenges for about 2 weeks and went cold turkey. The first 2 weeks were hellish, but after that, it gets better. Nicotine is highly addictive and I’m happy to have been nicotine free for the last 6 years.

Honestly nicotine isn't much more addictive than caffeine... Your body gets over it in about a week or two. It's the other aspects like social or habitual connections that generally make smoking or vaping difficult to quit - the urge to use is often not even about the nicotine itself.

i empathise with rolling, i used to do that but i think you should also be wary of the fact that it does make you more attached to the substance and consommation since there is an aspect of 'making your own'
not to mention at leasts where i'm from, it's way cheaper in the long run to roll, and you also buy god knows how much nicotine in the packet of tobacco
finally, it's kind of hard to tell exactly how often you buy the tobacco

Nicotine itself isn’t what’s bad for you… it’s the delivery method. The reason why most U.S. smokeless tobacco carries a risk of causing oral cancer is because of the chemicals that arise from fire-curing the tobacco. The Swedes don’t use this method and instead opt for steam-curing because it doesnt produce any of the carcinogenic chemicals. Zyn, however, does not contain any tobacco whatsoever, which makes it a much safer alternative to not only cigs and e-cigs but even smokeless tobacco

As a Swede, there is nothing more irksome than hearing the word ''Zyn''. Zyn is just a brand, not even the biggest brand. It's like calling all cigarettes ''Marlboros''. The product is actually called Snus, and it has been around for decades. It is not untested, and it is not new. Snus has made Sweden the European country which the smallest number of smokers, and on the cusp of being declared smoke-free. Snus is far from healthy, but it is far better than cigarettes. The world is bigger than just the US. I'm honestly disappointed at the complete lack of research done for this video, which I hope is just an isolated incident.

It was very disappointing as I have enjoyed this channel quite a lot, but we’re obviously seeing continued lack of basic understanding of what they’re making these videos about while presenting them as informed content.

@@Sajinala What I didn't really like about this video is how they never compared Nic pouches to Gum/Patches & only really focused on the social aspect of it. Besides that all I got from the this video was 🤷 "we just don't know".
From what I'd looked up they seem to be just about on par to each other just in a different form, flavors & strengths. I'd been vaping since before you could find them in just about any store, I tried the Gum but figured I'd probably just end up pulling all my fillings out. I was also vaping 24mg regular & 50mg Salt Nic juices & the Gum didn't give the same "hit" if you will.
I agree if you're not already using nicotine products you should never start, but with a whole research team it seems like they found out less info than I did looking into some research papers for 30 minutes. All Swedes saying this has been around for centuries let me just clarify: Snus as it’s called here has been around for centuries, oldest brand you can still buy today has been around since the 1700’s. However, snus was basically ground up loose tobacco that you put under the lip (lös-snus). It didn’t come in pouch form until around the 1970’s. Even though Zyn is in pouches it’s not the same, this type of snus is called “Vitt-snus” (white snus) it’s synthetic very potent nicotine with no tobacco and is the “vape” version of snus.

Just a quick clarification: the lung disease he’s talking about is likely ‘popcorn lung,’ which was linked to bootleg THC cartridges that contained vitamin E acetate, not nicotine vapes. While both are technically ‘vapes,’ this video is specifically about nicotine, so conflating the two feels a bit misleading. Around that same time, there was a big political push to ban nicotine vapes, and these incidents were used as leverage by tobacco companies, anti-tobacco groups, and politicians alike to further their agendas

    • @reidwallace4258
      @reidwallace4258 3 месяца назад

@@unpopularopinion1032 Actually, popcorn lung was first a thing in early vape juices, it gets its name because most of the people to ever get it got it from working in a microwave popcorn factory and breathing in the butter flavor in its powdered form. Its why we witch hunted some really good flavors out of juice in like 2014.
The bootleg THC vapes got blamed on 'popcorn lung' by the same know-nothing media talking heads that had claimed everybody that got a cold while vaping had popcorn lung for years before. It was the result of people using some kinda oil, I think it was vitamin E oil or something dumb like that, to get the THC liquid enough for the carts. Whatever it was, it was a non-water soluble, organic oil, that literally went rancid in kids lungs. Once again, totally unrelated to popcorn lung.
I am not talking out my ass bud, I worked 60 hours a week managing a vape shop for most of a decade, this shit was my life. Although I don't think anybody got popcorn lung from vaping (it seems to be caused by the actual crystal powder not the chemical as a liquid) it was a big thing in vaping long before weed cats. It is an example of how overly willing to self police the vape industry was, basically some youtuber found out a flavoring in his ejuice caused an illness and the entire industry stopped using it OVERNIGHT, no research, no making sure it happened in ejuice or at those levels or anything, just an industry wide, unofficial ban on a specific butter flavour.

    • @reidwallace4258

@@unpopularopinion1032 Also, by the time the THC carts blew up in the news Juul was the big thing and owned by big tobacco, they were moving into dispos and pods on mass already. I am not American, so would you imagine my surprise when I saw how popular Zyns are when I went to the US. I was NYC, and most Newsstands and store had "WE HAVE ZYNS" written on even a piece of paper with a marker. I knew what they are, in my country, we have something which is exactly the same, but they are owned by British American. They aren't as popular here, mostly because Eastern Europe is still a big market for classic ciggarets. Yes, people (teenagers) do buy them mostly to fool around a bit, then they go back to their classic ciggarets. The culture here is much different around tobbaco in general. Classic ciggarets are still very popular. Back to my NYC story, so when I went to a Newsstand to buy ciggarets, I asked the clerk there about ciggarets. She showed me a Juul and a Zyn pack. She was Indian or Bangladeshi, I couldn't tell for sure and she didn't understand what I meant and I showed her my ciggarets pack, then she showed me a pack of Newports and a pack of Marlboro. I bought the Newports because we have Marlboro. Ignoring the monstrous 18$ a pack, they were good.

I did quit successfully in the past few months (Zyn free since June) but it required me to get out of the military first. The stress of the job would have made it impossible without that break. I do believe it is ultimately better than smoking still but the psychiatric aspect of it is more interesting to me than the physical aspect of the addiction. One theory I have with no proof apart from speculation is that this represents a society-wide self-medication. Buproprion, an NDRI antidepressant, is famously used to help people quit smoking and as an alternative to SSRI antidepressants that have unwanted side effects including impotency. I believe ZYN is a self-prescribed version of this class of drugs. This may be more appealing to men on the right experiencing symptoms of melancholia who are (undestandably) skeptical of the scientific establishment and view antidepressants with stigma and shame. The better question is, what's wrong with the American system to where people feel like they need these to function?

There were plenty of people who never touched a cigarette before but started vaping and got addicted to it. Same thing will happen with Zyn. People who have never chewed or smoked before seeking out an alternate form of nicotine just ... doesn't make sense. But that's how it's going. That is the problem. But what they’re ALL pointing to is actually the addictive nature of our species; in simple terms, we addict, and we always have… And we rationalise it very well.
We addict to power and glorify it as progress, we addict to drugs and glorify it as medicine, we addict to exercise and glorify it as health, we addict to each other and glorify it as love. We’re addictive creatures. Some help us grow, some help us cope, and some destroy us. At the end of the day, most of us will addict to something. So, to your point, educate yourself, and CHOOSE your poison wisely.

in our country we had a zyn epidemic 3-4 years ago, it was much worse because zyn was unfortunately popular among children, it got banned a year after and the trend kinda outlived itself. i’m surprised you still have it blooming. and yes they found lots of chemicals in zyn + side effects like tooth decay and swollen gums etc
