I never heard of these things. You never explained the difference between these and conventional Skoal pouches. You mentioned tobacco salt? Why didn't you cut one open? I can tell you, they haven't hit the 30-something to 50-something bar scene of NYC yet.
Love your videos, but kinda lame how you promoted this sponsor with the script about how you yourself use it, considering you can't even use Rocket Money in Canada :/
I see you are called out a lot on this video for not doing enough research. If you make a follow-up video where you bring up studies on snus/zyn, can you please talk about how much plastic there is in the little pouches and how people just toss them all around in the streets and in nature. It is really damaging because not only does it spread microplastics, but birds and small animals do also eat them.
Nicotine isn't dangerous, it's the smoke and things like tar that's harmful but not the nicotine itself. It's like how things like caffeine, mint, capsaicin, and other things from plants are toxic to animals and bugs but not to humans and we ingest it all the time
Keep huffing that cope buddy. As a weed smoker I'm not gonna beat around the bush, it's bad for my lungs oh well. But don't go out and say nicotine isn't bad because well it is. Its addictive and it's nearly impossible to find something that has nicotine in it that also isn't bad for you@@donkeyhobo34
@@donkeyhobo34that’s not necessarily true, nicotine can be dangerous especially for the heart. it might be okay in small, controlled doses, but with how addictive it is, it’s very difficult to continue consuming in a way that’s not dangerous
I mean he could have just researched the effects of Swedish Snus to get a decent grasp. We have plenty of studies of Snus, there are hundreds of thousands lifelong users of Snus in sweden, and it is basically the same thing. Disclaimer, it's not nearly as harmful as other tobacco products. But it's still nicotine and addictive as such and can enhance the risk of disease. As with sugar and lots of things.
@@tquix94 Snus is different than nicotine pouches. Snus is a tobacco product, nicotine pouches have no tobacco and only have a gum mass, flavouring and nicotine.
@@tquix94 white snus maybe the same thing, but the actual snus is way worse for your gums and oral health than white snus and Zyn. Its not a good comparison. Thats like comparing cigarettes to daily hookah use paired with cigarillos
@tquix94 nicotine isnt harmful though, addictions can happen but the fact is nicotine itself is not harmful, the delivery method is, cigarettes are harmful because they go into your lungs, and they have tar included to keep the cigarette light, vapes are bad for you because they are made of cheap chemicles, and they also go in your lungs. Zyns harm would most likely cum from excessive usage on the same gum, however what you are saying about snus being bad is wrong. Snus is a different product, they seem the same but snus uses tobacco, tobacco is bad for you
When I was addicted to nicotine from smoking, I wanted to quit and picked up vaping. I was then addicted to vaping. When I wanted to quit vaping, I tried patches. Which didn’t work. I used lozenges which felt like they worked until I weaned to stop using them. The most effective way is to at some point, go cold turkey. The 2nd and final time I quit nicotine, I weaned myself off of vaping by using decreasing doses of lozenges for about 2 weeks and went cold turkey. The first 2 weeks were hellish, but after that, it gets better. Nicotine is highly addictive and I’m happy to have been nicotine free for the last 6 years.
Honestly nicotine isn't much more addictive than caffeine... Your body gets over it in about a week or two. It's the other aspects like social or habitual connections that generally make smoking or vaping difficult to quit - the urge to use is often not even about the nicotine itself.
I tried to quit 5ish times, once with nicotine chewing gums, once with patches, few times with substitution (instead of skome break i would have tangarine break)... nothing worked... one day i just stopped smoking and i worked, dont know how but it did... it was hell for first month... and 5 years later i still dream i lit a cig, but on other hand i get physically sick when smoke is around
That is basically how I trimmed down my diet to food that is less and less flavourful, until it was cheap and nutritious: just keep reducing the unnecessary. After a while, our bodies don't crave the fancy stuff. I still do add flavours, and eat junk, but it becomes a real treat, especially, when I haven't eaten this stuff in a while.
Yep. It's addictive and addiction sucks and high doses of nicotine are absolutely bad. Buuuut. Idk. To me this is like comparing soda to everclear. If you're going to consume something like this anyway then...
I mean that on itself is a concern. I'm not going to take anything that doesn't benefit me and scientist find out makes it harder for me to have kids. Not worth it imo
Especially that it's not even true. Tobacco for this type of oral use has been used in like, forever, in sweden. It began with just the tobacco, made into a paste, then that paste in pouches and now we have nicotine pouches that are entirely tobacco-free. Has it been researched? YOU BET.
@@Poon1312 That's based off of purely ignorance. If you think the tabaco industry (who have given numerous people cancer ETC) wants you to be heathy, you're being a fucking moron.
I agree.. I don't ever know what the new thing is.. and I think that is a good thing. No social media I think helps.. I do use RUclips but only channels I subscribe to I watch.
Dipping and Chewing got me off cigarettes. Pouches got me off Dipping. ZYN Pouches got me off regular Pouches. Nicotine gum got me off ZYN Pouches. And now I'm tobacco and nicotine free for the past five years or so. It's definitely a step in the tapering off process.
It's good to have alternative. I do hope that at least we can free us as normal cigarettes with all of that. It would be an improvement. I fear that young people start to use zyn more easily that they would have started smoking though. We would have then more problems than less.
Been think of trying nicotine gum to quit pouches but I’m worried I’ll just switch to being addicted to the gum. Might as well give it a shot, I’m already addicted anyway
my buddy used to smoke 1 pack of cigarettes from 14 to 27 (during college he had many days in a row doing 2 - 2 &1/2 packs), it is honestly amazing that he managed to stop smoking
This phrase: "The emphasis is not on enjoying a substance intentionally but in making it as easy as possible so the temptation to overindulge is always there. Sugar and alcohol are perfect examples"... This is why I started with vapes and moved to cigarettes and now I switched to rolling tobacco. I do enjoy smoking but wanna make it a controlled, conscious decision.
i empathise with rolling, i used to do that but i think you should also be wary of the fact that it does make you more attached to the substance and consommation since there is an aspect of 'making your own' not to mention at leasts where i'm from, it's way cheaper in the long run to roll, and you also buy god knows how much nicotine in the packet of tobacco finally, it's kind of hard to tell exactly how often you buy the tobacco now that i've quit, i kind of miss rolling which tells me there's an extra appeal that i can give to other hobbies that don't kill me
Vaping was around long before Juul hit the scene, but Juul dominated because it was one of the first big brands to use nicotine salts versus freebase nicotine. Snus has been around for ages, but Zyn uses processed nicotine extract instead of moistened tobacco, like Juul, Zyn was one of the first to market with these processed tobacco pouches and that's helped fuel their success.
Zyn was not the first. The first brand was "Epok" and there are many different "white snus" brands in Sweden. Zyn is just the brand that became popular in America.
If people are gonna seek out nicotine, then Zyn/Snus/nicotine pouches are honestly what I would rather see them using. I don't wanna deal with people spitting nasty black gunk all over the place, nor do I wanna have to inhale other people's secondhand smoke/vapor.
Here's the thing with that. People know that you don't wanna deal with them spitting nasty black gunk all over or inhaling their secondhand smoke. That social stigma about it does at least somewhat act as a deterrent. It's entirely possible that these pouches ARE a genuinely better alternative to smoking, but with that they also carry a significant possibility for people who never would have smoked because of all the negatives of smoking to end up with a nicotine addiction.
Every time the government tries to regulate addictive personal stuff like this, it always ends in failure. People will always find something to get hooked on to. I say crack down on enforcing sales bans to minors. But apart from that pick your poison, we're all going to pass anyway.
Every time the government tries to ban something addictive people will find another new thing to get addicted to. At least Zyn isn't causing people to hallucinate and be a danger to society. Apart from strictly enforcing bans on sales to minors, let people do what they want.
@@empyrea_2546 snus is brown, like regular tobacco, and can make your saliva brown. Having streaks of brown saliva running down from the snus over your teeth could be considered unclean. But snus in pouches is far "cleaner" than snus without pouches.
Nicotine itself isn’t what’s bad for you… it’s the delivery method. The reason why most U.S. smokeless tobacco carries a risk of causing oral cancer is because of the chemicals that arise from fire-curing the tobacco. The Swedes don’t use this method and instead opt for steam-curing because it doesnt produce any of the carcinogenic chemicals. Zyn, however, does not contain any tobacco whatsoever, which makes it a much safer alternative to not only cigs and e-cigs but even smokeless tobacco
Nicotine negatively impacts your vascular and oral health, no matter the method of delivery. Not to mention it being one of the most addictive substances known to man.
No it's not just the fire curing that produces cancer causing chemicals, tobacco has those on it's own regardless of drying method and those chemicals are called tobacco-specific nitrosamines. And since all commercial nicotine is extracted from tobacco these pouches still contain the tobacco-specific nitrosamine carcinogens.
@@MinecraftVideoHunter So, putting zyn up your but is bad for your oral health? "no matter the method of delivery" that is such a bullshit thing to say lol
@Dinkleberg2845 With the caveat that I have been addicted to caffeine and not nicotine, I think comparing the addictiveness of the 2 substances is a complete false equivalency. Nicotine is orders of magnitude more addictive, significantly more difficult to quit and basically impossible to use without becoming addicted.
zyn is bad, because tobacco company made it. that's the premise of the video. we don't know yet health implications, however, smoke-free, nicotine things alternatives are already there, so instead of making another nicotine gum or patch, they made one and targeted influencers and kids
As a Swede, there is nothing more irksome than hearing the word ''Zyn''. Zyn is just a brand, not even the biggest brand. It's like calling all cigarettes ''Marlboros''. The product is actually called Snus, and it has been around for decades. It is not untested, and it is not new. Snus has made Sweden the European country which the smallest number of smokers, and on the cusp of being declared smoke-free. Snus is far from healthy, but it is far better than cigarettes. The world is bigger than just the US. I'm honestly disappointed at the complete lack of research done for this video, which I hope is just an isolated incident.
I'm from USA. I smoked for thirty years and one day in 2010 I watched an episode of 60 Minutes news program. Talking about Swedish Snus and the low smoking rates there. I ordered a few cans online and quit smoking in 2 weeks. Glad I found out about snus.
Unfortunately, it’s not isolated lack of research/integrity on their part. In another video they interchangeably used the terms “homeopathy” and “supplements” while never differentiating between them because they obviously don’t know what they’re talking about and how those are honestly different things. It was very disappointing as I have enjoyed this channel quite a lot, but we’re obviously seeing continued lack of basic understanding of what they’re making these videos about while presenting them as informed content.
@@Sajinala What I didn't really like about this video is how they never compared Nic pouches to Gum/Patches & only really focused on the social aspect of it. Besides that all I got from the this video was 🤷 "we just don't know". From what I'd looked up they seem to be just about on par to each other just in a different form, flavors & strengths. I'd been vaping since before you could find them in just about any store, I tried the Gum but figured I'd probably just end up pulling all my fillings out. I was also vaping 24mg regular & 50mg Salt Nic juices & the Gum didn't give the same "hit" if you will. I agree if you're not already using nicotine products you should never start, but with a whole research team it seems like they found out less info than I did looking into some research papers for 30 minutes. Though I did not know how bad the social media "glorification" of these Nic pouches was as I try to avoid that part of the internet as much as I possibly can for my own mental health.
Yeah, eh, maybe? I think it used to be but that's kinda going away. Lots of guys use white snus now. I mostly hear it as a joke now a days. Might be different in different social groups or different geographical areas.
Pretty much the same here in the Southern US, Zyn is for Gen z, fluffy hair, trucker hat kids with soft hands who unironically make tik toks. "Real men" chew Grizzly Wintergreen long cut, and work 28 hours of OT a week.
I knew I had to quit when I was double dipping 6mg's and having to wake up in the middle of the night too top up. I was also having panic attacks when I would go more than 20 minutes without it. That realization that my whole day revolved around zyn was a sobering wake up call. Quitting was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am 6 months sober from nicotine and I still crave it.
this was me with salt nic vapes.. I knew it was a problem when I would wake up multiple times in the middle of the night to hit my vape then go back to sleep.
Damn. I switched to on! And if I leave my can at home I can go a whole day without it. I used to smoke a pack to a pack and half a day. The nicotine cravings from the pouches are far less strong that from cigarettes. You may just have an addictive personality.
Not sure where you get that info from.....a Zyn pouch has less nicotine than a cigarette and lasts 20 minutes instead of 5. The highest strength zyn has about as much nicotine as an "ultra-light" cigarette. Vaping helped me quit smoking 10 years ago. Zyn kept me from going back to vaping starting 7 years ago and I quit nicotine completely a year ago by tapering the number of puches I used a day slowly. I am grateful for it's existence.

prob also because it's less visually obvious than actually smoking. there was a huge social aspect to smoking as icebreakers.asking for a light or bumming cigarettes. maybe they are trying to kinda emulate that
All Swedes saying this has been around for centuries let me just clarify: Snus as it’s called here has been around for centuries, oldest brand you can still buy today has been around since the 1700’s. However, snus was basically ground up loose tobacco that you put under the lip (lös-snus). It didn’t come in pouch form until around the 1970’s. Even though Zyn is in pouches it’s not the same, this type of snus is called “Vitt-snus” (white snus) it’s synthetic very potent nicotine with no tobacco and is the “vape” version of snus.
Dude, we know (and not just the swedes). Snus is snus, regardless of what type it is. Ground up General løs, Thunder Cola or Slim Fresh White, *_it's ALL snus._* I used to smoke flavoured light Camel cigarettes... _They were still cigarettes._

There are 4 different types, the brown type without a bag, the brown type in a brown bad, the brown type in a white bag and the fully white type.
As a Swed, this video was kind of funny to watch. This product type is 50 years old and results in the user destroying their gums and worse addiction then cigarettes. But you dont get lung cancer at least 👍
@@radarpinki Snus has never ever been linked to cancer even tough it has been used for hundreds of years here in Sweden, and zyn doesn't even contain tobacco. We actually have a lover than average rate of cancer per capita because so few people use cigarettes because of snus. As a Swede, it's hilarious hearing about republican mens relationship with Zyn. Here in Sweden, Zyn is girl/woman coded. Yes, Zyn has also become popular among young guys, but it will be hard finding a man above the age of 30 that frequently uses Zyn. "Real men" use snus, not candy tasting Zyn. I find gender stereotypes silly, but republican men are usually very strict regarding what things are for men, and what things are for women lol
Swedish man nearly 40, I like my candy tasting vit snus and if anyone calls me girly I'll simply reply "vem fan bryr sig vad du tycker?". Who cares, mind your own damn business. A bit of citrus or mint is nice and I like it, though I'll happily take the regular old snus if someone offers one if I'm running low.
I think that’s a far reach of an association of being seen as a feminine with a conservative American men. Two different cultures and also is an irrelevant anecdote
@@SubWaySpiderman I can't speak for Americans as a Swede but I think there is an association amongst some that real men use real snus and zyn (white snus we call it here when referring to artificial nicotine pouches not containing tobacco, yeah I know zyn is a brand and we have it here too but the brand doesn't have the same market share here, it's just another brand amongst many that do white snus) is for girls and zoomers, but it's not really a serious thing. Kinda like a stereotype of a stereotype, like everyone has heard of it and maybe it was a thing at some point in the past but no one cares anymore. I'm nearly 40 (early just barely a millennial, definitely not gen z) and a man, and live in the countryside and most of my friends are like farmers and electricians and builders and mechanics and generally pretty textbook manly men with beards who spend their free time hunting and fishing, and none of them have ever accused me of being a girl for liking white snus with lemon or mint flavour and most of them have accepted one from me when they were running out.
It’s like how American men classify straight alcohol like scotch or whiskey as a manly drink and sweet flavored alcohols are ‘girly drinks’ it’s all a facade. Do what you want. Drink what you want. People are gonna judge either way.
As a Swiss person, I'm super confused to why this only started trending now in the US. Snus has been a plague in Scandinavia and Switzerland for several decades.
because smoking and vaping is seeing the writing on the wall, the number of people smoking and vaping is declining in the US, the UK, most of the EU so they calculated that the new marketing push for a different product is worth it as long as they keep some of the market also in 2022 philip morris (marlboro, like two dozen others) managed to buy up the whole stock for the swedish company that owns Zyn people call these different 'brands' but it's still like three massive companies that own everything tobacco and nicotine

The “what cigarette do you smoke, doctor?” clip brought on a nostalgia trip. My grandpa introduced me to recordings of old radio shows (1940-1950s) when I was young and the ads for cigarettes were kind of wild. They used that exact audio clip several times for several shows. I think it was for Camels, and if not that, it was Chesterfield. There was a huge focus on health effects; I distinctly remember Chesterfield ads going, “Nooo adverse effects to the nose, throat and sinuses from smoking Chesterfield!” Absolutely wild. Edit: I’m probably confusing Camel and Chesterfield in my head but the point is that they both advertised that way.
So is coffee....and sugar...and alcohol...and television...your phone... So at what point do we put our noses in someone else's business? Why be bothered by nicotine and not sugar?
as a recovering addict, it's really the addiction speaking, and with my big sad eyes i could also make sceptics day 'ok technically we don't know for now how bad this is' but yeah you're right if it's going to be used seventeen gorillion times while it's on the market because you're marketing to addicts we should just start from the assumption that it's bad and it has to prove itself
Nicotine pouches are the product where the flowery and candy flavors were tried out first, even before vapes were invented. In Sweden, it was intended for broadening the user base to girls and women, and it worked.

As a metal detectorist I can't wait till zyn replaces vaping, the amount of vaping stuff I dig out of the ground is crazy, vapes, tanks, atomisers, cartridges, pods, and they usually sound good on the detector too, they don't sound like junk I used to vape but I used a refillable vape, I didn't toss my vapes in the ground when I was done with them Now I use zyn, the number one reason I switched was I didn't like inhaling anymore and mixing my own juice, didn't like always needing a pair of batteries on charge One day if I run out of pouches I'll see how addicted I really am, I used nicotine gum for a year or two and it wasn't very addicting, if I ran out of gum it barely bothered me at all, now I wonder if I'll go crazy without pouches And I said zyn but you can't legally get zyn in Canada, as it doesn't come in 4mg and 4mg is the only legal strength in Canada
A product similar to Zyn called Skoal Bandits was sold in Scotland during the '80s. It was found out that the US company making them were targeting areas of high unemployment, they were banned in 1990.
I use nicotine like I use caffeine and will continue using both as needed for their benefits while avoiding using them in their most harmful forms. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore just like I don't drink coke or 1000 calorie coffee beverages anymore, and it would be ridiculous to conflate the health risks of these products with benefits of pure caffeine or nicotine.
@@poodlelord I did specify "long-term." Give it another ten years, when you can't function without it, but quitting seems like trying to carry a mountain, and you're painfully aware of how much it cost you over your lifetime.

i don't know what to say with ridiculous, if there's a strong culture of associating coffee with sugar we likely need to look at that for example studies show even two black coffees a day can be a net positive, but energy drinks can be much more dangerous, and we aren't sure why either of that should be true it's not just about a substance, it's about the cultural context for it and its addiction
Read the ingredients on Zyn. There are like 3, no combustion no heating, no carcinogens. The worst thing is the sweetener, acesulfamine k. Significant harm reduction compared to vaping/smoking. The 3rd safest way to ingest nicotine behind patches gum/lozenges.
I usually love FP, but the whole video felt very moral panicky and a poor level of research presented. Of course you aren’t going to find many studies on the health effects of a specific brand of oral nicotine pouch 🤦🏻♂️

In Switzerland, as in many other european countries, snus has been very popular for many years, especially athletes. During the mandatory military service many smokers would use it because you are not always allowed to smoke. As it is many non smokers started using it. I also don't know of anyone that quit smoking over it, most just start doing both. Since the white ones without tabacco in the style of ZYN are available they are even more wide spread and for example used by college students for study sessions.
In a swedish radio program I heard. They talked about how each ciggarette contains a specific amount of nicotone. While zyn/snus basically is unregulated and contains much more nicotone under a longer time. Some people have recieding gums and like a hole under the lip. So it is not, not dangerous.
not to mention you can't (well without it feeling like a crazy thing to do) smoke two cigarettes at a time you can at worst smoke faster or chainsmoke, but the plug is pulled way faster by your lungs you can get a stronger product and hopefully you KNOW how much stronger it is but with pouches just take two at the same time or take them more often, there's more nicotine released at the beginning anyway, i doubt people do one at a time for 20mins if we had pouches first i think you would be crazy to use cigarettes but when people immediately go into a 'worsebetter' dichotomy, we all switch to better i feel like that's crazy, at least remove the fruity taste man we can't pretend like they are just a tool for quitting
Snus has been big in scandinavia for decades. Especially lately, basically noone smokes, atleast not the younger generation. Personally much better than smokers as someone who wants nothing to do with it, it isnt nearly as bad as second hand smoke / smell. Prolly gonna fuck up them teeth real bad doe
As a long time vaper and somebody that ran a vape shop in Canada back in like 2013 I think we opened, lemme just correct one thing. The tobacco industry did NOT create vaping. They fought us, tooth and fuckin nail for several years. Early vapes were everything tobacoo companies hated, they were cheap, easy to make without their help (home made juice is still a thing), and one of the biggest selling points early on was getting your nic while still telling the liars saying it wasn't killing you to go fuck themselves. Then Juul came out, and kids loved them, and I think Phillip Morris bought em? Anyway, until that year, I think around 2016/17, they were doing everything they could to get vaping banned/regulated... Then the idiots on instagram made spending ten bucks a day on a single use plastic POS the cool kind of vaping and they were all over it.
also philip morris bought zyn in 2022 so yeah even though i find the current day push for pouches kind of a scummy attempt to hook more people before we can better regulate them, history does seem to be rewritten you can also see how vaping was not in the image of big tobacco because you could get all of your kit from different sellers at ok prices with low waste until it got adapted to juuls
I never got into pod systems when I used to vape, I just had a normal vape that took a 18650 battery and I could refill it, and most importantly I didn't throw it on the ground when it was empty lmao, I metal detect and I find so many Juuls and vape stuff in the ground
Just a quick clarification: the lung disease he’s talking about is likely ‘popcorn lung,’ which was linked to bootleg THC cartridges that contained vitamin E acetate, not nicotine vapes. While both are technically ‘vapes,’ this video is specifically about nicotine, so conflating the two feels a bit misleading. Around that same time, there was a big political push to ban nicotine vapes, and these incidents were used as leverage by tobacco companies, anti-tobacco groups, and politicians alike to further their agendas
@@unpopularopinion1032 Actually, popcorn lung was first a thing in early vape juices, it gets its name because most of the people to ever get it got it from working in a microwave popcorn factory and breathing in the butter flavor in its powdered form. Its why we witch hunted some really good flavors out of juice in like 2014. The bootleg THC vapes got blamed on 'popcorn lung' by the same know-nothing media talking heads that had claimed everybody that got a cold while vaping had popcorn lung for years before. It was the result of people using some kinda oil, I think it was vitamin E oil or something dumb like that, to get the THC liquid enough for the carts. Whatever it was, it was a non-water soluble, organic oil, that literally went rancid in kids lungs. Once again, totally unrelated to popcorn lung. I am not talking out my ass bud, I worked 60 hours a week managing a vape shop for most of a decade, this shit was my life. Although I don't think anybody got popcorn lung from vaping (it seems to be caused by the actual crystal powder not the chemical as a liquid) it was a big thing in vaping long before weed cats. It is an example of how overly willing to self police the vape industry was, basically some youtuber found out a flavoring in his ejuice caused an illness and the entire industry stopped using it OVERNIGHT, no research, no making sure it happened in ejuice or at those levels or anything, just an industry wide, unofficial ban on a specific butter flavour.
@@unpopularopinion1032 Also, by the time the THC carts blew up in the news Juul was the big thing and owned by big tobacco, they were moving into dispos and pods on mass already. The only reason the media overreaction DIDNT get our shit banned was because the tobacco companies had switched sides about six months to a year before and backed us up.
I am not American, so would you imagine my surprise when I saw how popular Zyns are when I went to the US. I was NYC, and most Newsstands and store had "WE HAVE ZYNS" written on even a piece of paper with a marker. I knew what they are, in my country, we have something which is exactly the same, but they are owned by British American. They aren't as popular here, mostly because Eastern Europe is still a big market for classic ciggarets. Yes, people (teenagers) do buy them mostly to fool around a bit, then they go back to their classic ciggarets. The culture here is much different around tobbaco in general. Classic ciggarets are still very popular. Back to my NYC story, so when I went to a Newsstand to buy ciggarets, I asked the clerk there about ciggarets. She showed me a Juul and a Zyn pack. She was Indian or Bangladeshi, I couldn't tell for sure and she didn't understand what I meant and I showed her my ciggarets pack, then she showed me a pack of Newports and a pack of Marlboro. I bought the Newports because we have Marlboro. Ignoring the monstrous 18$ a pack, they were good.
I have no problem with the idea of a smoking alternative to help quit smoking but I find it really troubling when people who have never smoked are picking it up as a habit.
is it a fine compound or harmful then? is caffeine as bad as nicotine then? and are the methods of consuming it just as bad? is coffee this is the addiction speaking, i used to say the same thing, that it's all personal choices addictions but you're playing pick and choose if we like harm reduction because people are addicted anyway, we should also dislike people falling into the addiction
I've said it before and daring to be healthy and happy is the most rebellious thing you can do today. I swear the whole world wants us to be chronically sick, depressed, angry- And a lot of my peers are just reveling in it, touting their disadvantages and addictions as badges of honor in face of the anthropocene. It's sad, and I'm personally not going to roll over and wave the white flag. Drink water, be social, and enjoy life
yeah like people will obviously take things to alleviate the oppression of modern life, but when the use of a product will promote the use of more of it, AND will give money to this company that has hundreds of billions to promote more of it you need to think is this actually honestly relieving the pain or was this the initial excuse by which i let one more problem into my life
I live in Denmark and i think youth here are super addicted to these pouches. It's kinda scary actually how popular it is amongst youth, and it is heavily marketed as a "hip young " thing. Every second teenager i see wherever i go pops these in. I have 3 danish friends who use it. They are aware that it is a bad habit, but they are super addicted.
Excellent, as usual. Now do one about how Big Tobacco is also behind major ultra-processed food companies, and it will make perfect sense: their business is addiction.
in switzerland, the situation can be even more dystopian: while enlisted for your mandatory military service, you can simply send your army credentials to a snus-shipping company and they will send you a half-kilogram box of Siberia Red snus for free, which is a lot stronger than zyn. a lot of my homies returned from the army with a crippling nicotine addiction.
A lot of prominent right-wing political figures have started pushing zyn and other pouches as “manly” and good for your body. Tucker Carlson acts like he’s on Zyn’s payroll with how much he pushes them
@@xTRUExiNsANiTYx Yeah Tucker obviously promoting it really put a sour taste in my mouth. I wouldn't doubt at all that he actually is being paid by ZYN the under the table.
I absolutely hate cigarettes and smoking, because of the passive smoking and the horrible smell. Zyn solves both problems. As for the health risks: Let people poison themselves. It’s not worse than alcohol or any other drug. Caffeine can be bad for you too and you can build up a tolerance and addiction for it yet we don’t see people protesting against coffee.
11:20 saying the colors went away on vapes is laughable. It just stopped at most gas stations. You can buy a disposable vape with a built in game console and child lock.
I just got out of the military as a hethcare provider at the officer level and nearly everyone was ripping Zyns (or other brand equivalent) including myself. I did quit successfully in the past few months (Zyn free since June) but it required me to get out of the military first. The stress of the job would have made it impossible without that break. I do believe it is ultimately better than smoking still but the psychiatric aspect of it is more interesting to me than the physical aspect of the addiction. One theory I have with no proof apart from speculation is that this represents a society-wide self-medication. Buproprion, an NDRI antidepressant, is famously used to help people quit smoking and as an alternative to SSRI antidepressants that have unwanted side effects including impotency. I believe ZYN is a self-prescribed version of this class of drugs. This may be more appealing to men on the right experiencing symptoms of melancholia who are (undestandably) skeptical of the scientific establishment and view antidepressants with stigma and shame. The better question is, what's wrong with the American system to where people feel like they need these to function?
Next to no negative side effects IMO short of addiction and obvious gum damage long term. It’s plant fibre and nicotine, neither of which causes cancer.
Literally just Snus. I sell sh*t like this all the time along with a metric crap ton of cigars (actual cigars, not cigarillos). At this point it's just Darwinism in progress...
@@phasmidjelly1429 true, same for cocaine leaves and potatoes too. if you google snus and compare to zyn you'll get what i mean. snus is tabacco leaves grown down and mixed with water and spices. almost looks like wet plant soil. so its more of a natural product with less adative substances.
I remember finding Zyn about 8 years ago when I was a junior in high school, got it as a way to get my fix in without having a dip in and being shocked at the nicotine hit. Here I am now watching the product blow up over the last few years, and can’t help but look back on those times and how not only did it (marginally) help me quit chewing tobacco, but vaping after I fell to the idea of using vaping to quit chewing instead.
I get ads for Zyn all the time on the podcasts that I listen to. It's probably worth mentioning that there's a decent possibility with all the money that the tobacco industry still has, that a lot of the "Zynfluencers" are behind the scenes paid to promote Zyn, if not completely astroturfed in the first place.
completely why would you put your reputation on the line to promote nicotine? not to mention it restricts your audience to non-minors there has to be some counter-incentive i think they're completely astro-turfed, and if not monetarily reimbursed, then just offered enough products to basically be the same thing
5:48 Actually the oldest kind of Snus (thats how civilised people including the Swedish call it, as Zyn is just one brand of Snus) are aroumd since the 1820s with the oldest kind being „Ljunglöfs Ettan“.
You're branding is so good... I saw the thumbnail and the colour scheme made me subconsciously know (from past history) that this is a quality video... Then saw future proof and I was like oh yeah... That's why 😂
A bit misrepretentative to claim we know nothing about nictotine salt based products. As mentioned, snus has been popular in Sweden for decades, with it currently well outselling cigarettes in the country, with the medical findings at best finding "possible" risks to cardiovascular health, though said risks being found to be far lesser than risks associated with smoking and other nicotine sources
it's pure nicotine only risk and not additional additives(not that it's good because it's not) but it's the lesser of evils(on paper(we'll see if they don't add some carcinogenic BS into it))
Should talk about how the insane 100% + tax on cigs in Canada is not only financially ruining addicts who are addicted, but it's driving them towards trends like Vape and Zyn. Thing is: There is way less help to quit smoking than the message on the $19 pack says there is...
You are aware that this video, called "the problem with Zyn", does not mention a problem with Zyn, beyond vague speculation that "it might be bad", right?
"Zyn is a symbol for conservatism in America" Such a dumb fkn take😆 I live in California where these things are selling like hot cakes and, trust me, we are not a conservative state
Here's a million dollar idea: Zyn-ergy drink. Fun fruit flavors mixed with nicotine and caffeine. Addiction in a bottle they'll never be able to stop drinking
Only found out about Zyn because I picked up a part time job at 7 Eleven during the pandemic. Figured "Hey it's legal, and all the customers said it only gives you a short buzz", so I tried it while on the clock and spent the next 20 minutes throwing up in the bathroom while my coworker covered my shift. So much regret 🤣 I think people who get addicted to that terrible taste and buzz are just masochists or extremely bored. I kept the rest of the tin since I had already paid and opened them, and used it very sparingly throughout the rest of the year. The weird buzz got in the way of focusing on a task or speaking properly at work, so I don't see how it's part of the "hustle culture" at all. When I finished it, I didn't really feel the need to seek more. The taste and burn is so off putting and gross. Feels artificial. Worse than regular tobacco. Worse than a Black N Mild. I tried chewing tobacco and Indian betel nut packs, and I could understand the buzz, but I can't understand why people specifically prefer ON and Zyn
I thought Tucker Carlson was trying to appeal to the religious right. Is that compatible with shilling recreational drugs? I know tobacco is more acceptable but the way he phrases it just really emphasizes the "drug" part. 7:27 "All of a sudden you feel good." I'm not going to transcribe the rest of this segment. I don't care enough to listen to Tucker Carlson getting high on drugs for the first time.
It is compatible but not in a way one would think at first. Religious people and aIt righters are very hypocritical, so they will preach about not doing this stuff but will do it when they find it convenient.
Um you don’t get high from Zyn so idk where the “high” remark comes from. All I got from this is you hate Tucker Carlson, who’s not a spokesman for Zyn. Get over it, stop listening to him if you don’t like him. Not that hard.
Vaping doesn't cause lung disease, unless you're vaping black market cannabis vapes that include cosmetic products (vitamin e oil usually) or unregulated flavouring agents. Here in Canada the gogermment strictly regulates all these things and has found it to be 90% safer than smoking. While I found it insanely difficult to quit, my lungs are in excellent shape after 14 years of vaping. I'm certainly glad I avoided 14 years of smoking
we do, the guy who mad ethis video is a doorknob and tried to find studies on ZYNS SPECIFICALLY instead of nicotine pouches which we know are significantly less harmful than cigarettes and have zero link to heart disease or cancer
actually, i immediately thought that what ZYN was... a new brand name of chewing tobacco when i posters of it outside smoking shops. iam so happy you're here to tell me these things. on a personal note, that flash of you and the family was priceless
Though Snus gets mentioned in the video, and lots of people in comments equate Snus to Zyn, I’m not clear if that’s an accurate comparison. Zyn is nicotine. Snus appears to be processed tobacco. These aren’t the same, the addictive effects differ, the health effects aren’t the same, etc.
They’re much more similar than different. No tobacco means you avoid some harmful compounds like nitrosamines, and nicotine is still nicotine, there is no “full grain” version of it. It’s addictive, it elevates your blood pressure and will give you gum disease with enough use, but that’s pretty much it. Been used in Scandinavia for the last 200 years or so, no mystery as the video implies.
I am zyn curious. I would try, but Ryan Long said he gave it a shot and got addicted immediately. I have enough addictions already thank you very much.
I will never forgive the gov for banning vapes, only leading to the production disposable vapes to dominate in its wake, so I hope nothing worse than these pouches come around. Screw anyone who shows any fraction of support towards banning nicotine products. (I myself never smoke or drug)
Does it ever occur to literally anyone that some people don't care if it's harmful and just enjoy it? Not everything needs to be regulated into oblivion to keep you "safe"
The problem with Zyn is that it isn't solely marketed as a smoking alternative. All these influencers and weird bro culture make it look like "the cool new thing." There were plenty of people who never touched a cigarette before but started vaping and got addicted to it. Same thing will happen with Zyn. People who have never chewed or smoked before seeking out an alternate form of nicotine just ... doesn't make sense. But that's how it's going. That is the problem. Dude yapped for 15 minutes in the video about a lack of scientific evidence. Basically, if there is no health benefit to someone without a pre-existing nicotine addiction, then it can't be considered a good thing. Period. There's the problem.
Man, I love your videos. Some of them are legitimately badass and really shed light on the problems with materialism, consumerism and capitalism. But what they’re ALL pointing to is actually the addictive nature of our species; in simple terms, we addict, and we always have… And we rationalise it very well. We addict to power and glorify it as progress, we addict to drugs and glorify it as medicine, we addict to exercise and glorify it as health, we addict to each other and glorify it as love. We’re addictive creatures. Some help us grow, some help us cope, and some destroy us. At the end of the day, most of us will addict to something. So, to your point, educate yourself, and CHOOSE your poison wisely.
I'm a Swede. In Sweden, these are associated with women. Men go by tobacco snus instead. Especially loose snus if you want to be extra manly. Now, I've thankfully stopped using tobacco all togther. It's not until you stop, you'll realize how little you actually need it. I like to smoke a cigar from time to time.
The man said it is used in Sweden since the 70 ties and then went for 10 minutes explaining how this is a new product and we don't know the risks from using it.
in our country we had a zyn epidemic 3-4 years ago, it was much worse because zyn was unfortunately popular among children, it got banned a year after and the trend kinda outlived itself. i’m surprised you still have it blooming. and yes they found lots of chemicals in zyn + side effects like tooth decay and swollen gums etc

Nicolette have been available for decades in Britain. They're pretty much the same thing.
Zyn helped me quit smoking, but it was hard as hell to quit zyn.
Nicotine isn't dangerous, it's the smoke and things like tar that's harmful but not the nicotine itself. It's like how things like caffeine, mint, capsaicin, and other things from plants are toxic to animals and bugs but not to humans and we ingest it all the time

It's like searching for papers on Marlboro effects.

It's the other aspects like social or habitual connections that generally make smoking or vaping difficult to quit - the urge to use is often not even about the nicotine itself.
yes, if you want to quit, sooner or later, you have to quit
I tried to quit 5ish times, once with nicotine chewing gums, once with patches, few times with substitution (instead of skome break i would have tangarine break)... nothing worked... one day i just stopped smoking and i worked, dont know how but it did... it was hell for first month... and 5 years later i still dream i lit a cig, but on other hand i get physically sick when smoke is around
Dude, decreasing doses and then stopping is the opposite of cold turkey haha
That is basically how I trimmed down my diet to food that is less and less flavourful, until it was cheap and nutritious: just keep reducing the unnecessary. After a while, our bodies don't crave the fancy stuff. I still do add flavours, and eat junk, but it becomes a real treat, especially, when I haven't eaten this stuff in a while.
This video is entirely fluff. Not a single concern was brought up besides noting that there isn't much research done on these products. Ridiculous.
I was looking for this comment, thank you
Basically this channel in a nutshell lmfao
Especially that it's not even true. Tobacco for this type of oral use has been used in like, forever, in sweden. It began with just the tobacco, made into a paste, then that paste in pouches and now we have nicotine pouches that are entirely tobacco-free. Has it been researched? YOU BET.

It's good to have alternative. I do hope that at least we can free us as normal cigarettes with all of that. It would be an improvement. I fear that young people start to use zyn more easily that they would have started smoking though. We would have then more problems than less.

This phrase: "The emphasis is not on enjoying a substance intentionally but in making it as easy as possible so the temptation to overindulge is always there. Sugar and alcohol are perfect examples"... This is why I started with vapes and moved to cigarettes and now I switched to rolling tobacco. I do enjoy smoking but wanna make it a controlled, conscious decision.
i empathise with rolling, i used to do that but i think you should also be wary of the fact that it does make you more attached to the substance and consommation since there is an aspect of 'making your own'
not to mention at leasts where i'm from, it's way cheaper in the long run to roll, and you also buy god knows how much nicotine in the packet of tobacco
finally, it's kind of hard to tell exactly how often you buy the tobacco
now that i've quit, i kind of miss rolling which tells me there's an extra appeal that i can give to other hobbies that don't kill me
Vaping was around long before Juul hit the scene, but Juul dominated because it was one of the first big brands to use nicotine salts versus freebase nicotine. Snus has been around for ages, but Zyn uses processed nicotine extract instead of moistened tobacco, like Juul, Zyn was one of the first to market with these processed tobacco pouches and that's helped fuel their success.

Exactly if your gonna kill yourself I’d rather not see you have a stick in your mouth were you can put a little pouch in your mouth it’s less gross
Ditto with cannabis vaping or edibles... Stick to those, save your lungs and the air the PM 2.5 from burning materials that should never be burned!

Zyn, however, does not contain any tobacco whatsoever, which makes it a much safer alternative to not only cigs and e-cigs but even smokeless tobacco
not bad, just extremely addictive
Nicotine negatively impacts your vascular and oral health, no matter the method of delivery. Not to mention it being one of the most addictive substances known to man.
Umm, nicotine is horrible for basically every organ in your body, no matter the delivery method.

You'll notice this with all sorts of products Americans use. It's not a tissue, it's a kleenex. It's not a photocopier, it's a xerox.

The nicotine cravings from the pouches are far less strong that from cigarettes. You may just have an addictive personality.
@@frankfontaine1559right? The cravings with the pouches are so minor compared to cigarettes
If you are waking up at nights and cant go more then 20 min without snus then you might have more problems then just a nic addiction.

Well I wouldn't think that (I'm not conservative and I use pouches), Tucker Carlson won't shut up about zyn and tells his fans to use it
Zyn are unreasonably strong and unreasonably addictive as a result. That is why people make it their personality, it’s that addictive.

Even though Zyn is in pouches it’s not the same, this type of snus is called “Vitt-snus” (white snus) it’s synthetic very potent nicotine with no tobacco and is the “vape” version of snus.
vitt snus är inte det samma som nikotinpåsar
Dude, we know (and not just the swedes).
Snus is snus, regardless of what type it is. Ground up General løs, Thunder Cola or Slim Fresh White, *_it's ALL snus._*

@@radarpinki Snus has never ever been linked to cancer even tough it has been used for hundreds of years here in Sweden, and zyn doesn't even contain tobacco. We actually have a lover than average rate of cancer per capita because so few people use cigarettes because of snus. Obviously, nicotine isn't great for you and is super addictive, but nicotine is not the chemical responsible for causing cancer. (And no, "dip" is not snus)
They sell Zyn in Sweden?
I haven't had a snus in probably a decade, so I have no idea what they sell in Sweden or Norway anymore 😂🇳🇴
Snus has been a plague in Scandinavia and Switzerland for several decades.
because smoking and vaping is seeing the writing on the wall, the number of people smoking and vaping is declining in the US, the UK, most of the EU so they calculated that the new marketing push for a different product is worth it as long as they keep some of the market
also in 2022 philip morris (marlboro, like two dozen others) managed to buy up the whole stock for the swedish company that owns Zyn
people call these different 'brands' but it's still like three massive companies that own everything tobacco and nicotine
Because snus is banned in many places like the UK, so only after the advent of nicotine pouches has the market reopened
Snus were trendy in the US decades ago. These things seem to be new-ish here.
I love that I'm so disconnected that this is the first time I hear about zyn

youre not better than anyone youre just antisocial
I'm thinking at this point we can just safely assume that all nicotine products are addictive and a bad idea to start using.
Can’t we all just agree with this point we know this stuff but we won’t admit it ya know?
So is coffee....and sugar...and alcohol...and television...your phone...
So at what point do we put our noses in someone else's business? Why be bothered by nicotine and not sugar?
I thought this was common knowledge.

As a metal detectorist I can't wait till zyn replaces vaping, the amount of vaping stuff I dig out of the ground is crazy, vapes, tanks, atomisers, cartridges, pods, and they usually sound good on the detector too, they don't sound like junk
I used to vape but I used a refillable vape, I didn't toss my vapes in the ground when I was done with them
Now I use zyn, the number one reason I switched was I didn't like inhaling anymore and mixing my own juice, didn't like always needing a pair of batteries on charge
One day if I run out of pouches I'll see how addicted I really am, I used nicotine gum for a year or two and it wasn't very addicting, if I ran out of gum it barely bothered me at all, now I wonder if I'll go crazy without pouches
And I said zyn but you can't legally get zyn in Canada, as it doesn't come in 4mg and 4mg is the only legal strength in Canada
A product similar to Zyn called Skoal Bandits was sold in Scotland during the '80s. It was found out that the US company making them were targeting areas of high unemployment, they were banned in 1990.
I've never heard any long-term nicotine addict ever say "Man, I'm glad I started using."
I am. Like honestly, helps me focus, regulate my mood. It's great to have such a helpful drug.
I use nicotine like I use caffeine and will continue using both as needed for their benefits while avoiding using them in their most harmful forms. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore just like I don't drink coke or 1000 calorie coffee beverages anymore, and it would be ridiculous to conflate the health risks of these products with benefits of pure caffeine or nicotine.

i don't know what to say with ridiculous, if there's a strong culture of associating coffee with sugar we likely need to look at that for example
studies show even two black coffees a day can be a net positive, but energy drinks can be much more dangerous, and we aren't sure why either of that should be true
it's not just about a substance, it's about the cultural context for it and its addiction

@@SullivanDnB They have a couple testing for carcinogens, I believe. All the other pouches are lower quality (IMO from my research), you can't even find the ingredients online.
This is the last random sentence I will be writing and I am going to stop mid-sent
In a swedish radio program I heard. They talked about how each ciggarette contains a specific amount of nicotone. While zyn/snus basically is unregulated and contains much more nicotone under a longer time. Some people have recieding gums and like a hole under the lip. So it is not, not dangerous.
not to mention you can't (well without it feeling like a crazy thing to do) smoke two cigarettes at a time
you can at worst smoke faster or chainsmoke, but the plug is pulled way faster by your lungs
you can get a stronger product and hopefully you KNOW how much stronger it is but with pouches just take two at the same time
or take them more often, there's more nicotine released at the beginning anyway, i doubt people do one at a time for 20mins
if we had pouches first i think you would be crazy to use cigarettes but when people immediately go into a 'worsebetter' dichotomy, we all switch to better i feel like that's crazy, at least remove the fruity taste man we can't pretend like they are just a tool for quitting

Ja, snus har vräkt tänderna hos min familj, men åtminstone ingen cancer!
Then the idiots on instagram made spending ten bucks a day on a single use plastic POS the cool kind of vaping and they were all over it.
also philip morris bought zyn in 2022
so yeah even though i find the current day push for pouches kind of a scummy attempt to hook more people before we can better regulate them,
history does seem to be rewritten
you can also see how vaping was not in the image of big tobacco because you could get all of your kit from different sellers at ok prices with low waste until it got adapted to juuls
We not gonna stop the world from smoking anyway. So as long as there’s no smoke that affecting non-smokers, I think this product is cool

@@riba2233ya cause leftist are not hypocrites at all on anything 😂
@@rethink-twiggy of course we hate him, it is completely normal stance for someone like him. Don't you?
@@rethink-twiggy no, they aren't. Even if they were, we are not talking about them now.
Big Tobacco fooling humanity once again.
hold up though, if sweden has been doing this for years, how do we not have any long term research on this?
we do, the guy who mad ethis video is a doorknob and tried to find studies on ZYNS SPECIFICALLY instead of nicotine pouches which we know are significantly less harmful than cigarettes and have zero link to heart disease or cancer
Massive problem among Premier League footballers. The Athletic have a huge article about it from about 18 months ago.
actually, i immediately thought that what ZYN was... a new brand name of chewing tobacco when i posters of it outside smoking shops. iam so happy you're here to tell me these things. on a personal note, that flash of you and the family was priceless
Though Snus gets mentioned in the video, and lots of people in comments equate Snus to Zyn, I’m not clear if that’s an accurate comparison. Zyn is nicotine. Snus appears to be processed tobacco. These aren’t the same, the addictive effects differ, the health effects aren’t the same, etc.
addictive effects probably similar, its still nicotine pure nicotine probably more addictive. health effects probably less severe though
Have you heard of Zippix or Pixotine? Yup nicotine infused toothpicks. Because thats a thing now.
omg
Cry about it
The problem with Zyn is that it isn't solely marketed as a smoking alternative.
Wanna know what's scarier than the doctors smoking in the 50s? The amount of doctors and nurses who still smoke today in 2024
Man, I love your videos.
Never apologize for showing feelings. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.
Dude
From the bottom of my heart
I hate politics
But “zynsurrection” has me on the floor rn and I just can’t with this shit today 😂
I'm just glad to be too old to have known this zyng thing before
