I've got the Ryzen 5 5500u version of this laptop and did the same ram upgrade immediately, mine did come with mounting bracket and ribbon cable for an additional drive, i added a 1tb silicon power SSD. Now it's a little beast for only $450 USD(including upgrades)
after physically installing the new ram is there any other process one's gotta do in order to make the laptop recognize and utilize said added ram? ty in advance

@@lapua9828 oh k then, do you know if there might be any performance differences installing a ram with different brand or capacity (maybe since a 8gb is already in, it's better to put another 8gb instead of 16gb and so on for better compatibility)?
@@spongebobmarley7368 mine comes with 8gb of onboard memory and only one open DIMM, i added another 8gbs. But so long as the speed and timings are the same the capacity shouldn't matter, so if i had installed a 16gb stick instead, the first 8gb of that stick should run in dual channel, with 8 additional gb running in single channel
@@lapua9828 and since I'm pretty lost (sorry and thank you for the patience), do you have any ram recommendations? I don't know where to find the matching speed and timing specs you mentioned
The "wasted" space is for a hdd upgrade, you should get the matching mount in the original box

I use the Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R74Z, or the Acer Aspire A515-45 series, and I've been wondering which exact ram I should use to upgrade my device? I did some research and figured out that my computer uses 8GB DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz SODIMM NON-ECC Unbuffered 260pin 1.2V CL19 Single Rank memory, but I'm lost on which exact memory upgrade I should go for. I saw a crucial ram that's compatible but I don't know what specific rank it is (Crucial did not specify).
If you know that it needs DDR 4 3200, you are good to go. No need to worry about single rank or double rank.

@@rickstechrepairs I just opened mine tonight for a RAM upgrade and it has a fixed connector for and SSD - also has 2 slots for ram with a max of 2x16GB. Yours doesn't have those two options, different model, either older, or a base version.
*It ended up being far easier to pop open than I have seen, I used the back side of a butter knife.*

Usually there is already one stick of ram or possibly two from the factory

Sorry just asking, why is it that we need to unplug the baterry before installing the ram?
Some people have accidentally fried their laptop installing ram without disconnecting the battery

why does the battery needs to disconnect before putting the ram?
Because the battery still transfer electricity to the components and can cause shorts. I forgot to do it in this same model and it happened but with no damages it was pure luck.
would this same repair work on a 43 model? also, if you got the ram piece online, do you possibly still have the link to order it?

when i check on the command function and on the taskmanager memory option, it shows me that i have 2 slot on my aspire 5 and through command it says i have 2 rams in used and both of them are of 4 gb each. but where ever i check. acer aspire 5 a515-45 series only have one slot, will u please help me on that, i didnt understand it
I suspect 4gb of ram is soldered on and you only have 1x ddr4 sodimm slot

Yes I suppose physical clean or remove it if possible? I’m having the issue where the computer turns on but the screen stays black and I’ve tried restarting it many times but it is not working. Do you have any suggestions for this?
I have the 4gb version. So can i put a 16gb stick in it? Cause putting 32gb stick would be waste of money im guessing
i would add another 4gb to make it 8GB in Dual Channel
if you arent gaming i wouldnt install over 16GB of Ram for this laptop
@@rickstechrepairs yeah I don’t like how 4gb is permanently built into the board leaving you with 1 ram slot smh its a awesome deal otherwise got it for 319 r3 5300u. Wish they had version with 2 regular ram slots. Yeah gaming on it 👍🏾 light gaming, for traveling & when I can’t be on my i7 desktop
Where is the cmos battery located if it needs to be replaced?
I think it uses the system battery to hold the cmos settings
My acer aspire 5 has decided to not recognise realtek microphone. If I attach an outside mic, it wants to use it as a speaker. Is this a known fault?
right click the volume icon in the bottom left and click on audio mixer
when the mic is attached you can change where the audio is playbacked from (laptop speakers)

In dual channel i expect up to 20% increase.

@@spongebobmarley7368 its more like 2x graphics and system performance and no as long as task manager shows the RAM amount as expected you're good
Can you add a higher ram like 16 or 32? Will it still run dual?
The max amount of ram you can put is 24gb so 16gb ram stick should be good

@@rickstechrepairs apparently I have the older model that has two! Score. Updated my dad's laptop with a $10 8gb and it's so much smoother now
