@Tommy Vercetti Meh, permanent hearing damage to hear a nice engine sound pierce your fucking eardrums doesn't seem like a good tradeoff to me. It sounds better with the ear pro anyways because you are able to hear more definition in the engine note.
Meh, you would need a BMW M12/13 for that. As I recall, the 1500hp was an estimate, as there were no dynos strong enough to actually measure its power. The 787b's R26B actually had the power reduced to 650hp from the 787's 700hp (race trim, the potential was 900hp). But the sound! Oooh, the sound!!!
Gotta love a rotary. Seems like the thing could just rev higher and higher forever. And spits flames at the top. So exciting, wish they'd try a 4 rotor in their new P2 cars running the IMSA series.
they used to run 3 rotors engines, but the rules double the displacement of any rotary (two power cycles per rotation in a rotary engine) and they have horrible MPG.
They could theoretically rev on forever, assuming all of the necessary precautions are taken (cooling, lubrication, balancing, etc.) There's enough people making 4 rotors now too, that would be neat to see in the IMSA

@@skuzzyj Its not the valves that makes it easier for a piston engine with low capacity to rev very high. its the short stroke, and the small combustion chamber that makes the difference, whereas the rotary has an enlogated combustion chamber, that takes longer to burn :-) but make a smaller rotary and it will be able to rev higher too.

2614cc…unrestricted, the R26B can produce 980hp @ 11000rpm and is naturally aspirated, the only reason the engine is restricted is for 'safety', whatever that is and to limit engine wear, such a capable little engine, it may have high exhaust temperatures but I'd rather this than some shitty Ferrari V12
