- With her mission in mind, Mellifera must finalize preparations, finish exploring the mall, and take to the roof to scout her surroundings.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is a turn-based survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Struggle to survive in a harsh, persistent, procedurally generated world. Scavenge the remnants of a dead civilization for food, equipment, or, if you are lucky, a vehicle with a full tank of gas to get you the hell out of Dodge. Fight to defeat or escape from a wide variety of powerful monstrosities, from zombies to giant insects to killer robots and things far stranger and deadlier, and against the others like yourself, that want what you have…
Gameplay is from Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead's 2023-04-15 experimental release. Experimental builds can be found at cataclysmdda.org/experimental/
Music is from CO.AG, packaged with the game's CC-Sounds pack / @co.agmusic - Игры
I know these aren't the most 'popular' vids. But I'm grateful all the same you continue them. Thanks for being cool and creative, Worm Girl.
The sheer joy in your voice when you saw the BLAHAJ was wonderful.
It made my heart melt
With suspiciously good Swedish pronunciation I might add.
@@informitas0117suspiciously indeed
Is she...you know...a Blahaj fan?
Things got weirdly real with the "been a few weird years" there
The lore was written like ten years ago and then it came true irl 😭
If worm girl has one million fans, I’m one of them. If worm girl has 100 fans, I’m one of them. If work girl has 1 fan, I am that fan. If worm girl has 0 fans I have been turned into a zombie.
I loooove this series so much! I found you due to your diving into Fear and Hunger and felt you had an absolutely amazing way of conveying those stories. And now I am anxiously awaiting the ability to watch the next one of these videos!
Take a shower
I love the narration in this series yea

So, Worm Girl just randomly started riding a children's tricycle around a zombie infested mall. Worm Girl plays Dead Rising confirmed.
The "*Gasp* Blåhaj!" was so funny
Blahaj my beloved
Shame this hasn't gained more traction, you're a very insightful individual in all regards. Thanks for the content.
Thanks! RUclips doesn't love promoting this kind of content, but I think the people who are into it are the type to stick around, so if it doesn't get wide appeal at least it goes deep.
@@mutantwormgirl I'd feel guilty to say keep at it in spite of it, since I'd just be asking for your time and efforts, and you know; your time. But you're a great narrator and storyteller, so perhaps, hopefully, that's all you'll need to succeed indefinitively in this ambience. But if not... yeah, at least it goes deep.
I see that blahaj in the thumbnail >:3
love it
15:42 a glimmer of hope in these dark days...
"*gasp* Blahaj!" killed me, I am a zombie now.
17:52 - Said "Howdy Partner" aloud as Worm said it at the the same speed, and emphasize. Thanks for the laugh.
I actually submitted a minor fix to the Blåhaj recently. At some point, its weight was doubled or tripled from what it should have been.
The boy was huge.
@@mutantwormgirl lmao
I drop a stuffed animal from the roof of a building and it lands on a migo like an anvil, killing it instantly
mountain dew blahaj blast
Genuinely the most cozy series on youtube.
I just want to say that for a smaller channel starting a retro game lets play your retention rate on this is insane. Only 2/3 loss after the first video and like and 70-90% retention from there on. The quality of these edits really shines through and your narrative additions/interpretations really bring the game to life. Thanks for this lovely series :3 Look forward to watching more from you in the future
Thanks! I've been really pleasantly surprised by the success.
@@mutantwormgirl ALSO BLAHAAAAAAJ LMAOO
this is the best game ??
If that was her reaction to the fleshraptor it's a really good thing she missed the brute at 39:48. Poor lady has enough to worry about
Dealing with a horde of 50 zombies: Challenging, but not insurmountable
Dealing with one food cart: Impossible
And, of course @15:40 Blåhaj!
Listening to her makes me so happy for some reason.
This series is WONDERFUL! My old roommate used to play and I was fascinated by the world building and survival mechanics. Your story telling is top notch and I've been watching EVERY video in full as well as liking them.
THANK YOU for continuing this series!
Puts a smile in my face to see another episode of our Punk Rock Mall Empress emerge from the creative chaos.
The details like describing the meaningful silence of the city from the rooftop and the small diversions of tipsy-forklift-shenenigans add to the immersion. Someone fighting to survive but finding small moments to reflect and to be playfully human... Gold. ^ ^
Blåhaj!
blahaj GET!!!
In the keybindings there's an unbound command I set to Ctrl+U called Unload Container which lets you dump any bag/clothing/etc to an adjacent tile without unloading every container inside recursively. It's super QoL. I like to stash a second bag I call a lootbag inside my main backpack where all the loot goes into for easy unloading later without dumping my everyday carry items. Double bonus is that if it's safe around I can carry the lootbag in hand and have more room in my pack for extra looting.
edit: I suppose the second bag isn't necessary, forgot you can favorite items to avoid dumping them.
"Not Forklift Certified." Boy are we in for a wild ride
Let's hope OSHA didn't survive the apocalypse.
The forklifts are on the roof… (why do they have a warehouse on the roof and not on the ground floor, anyway?)
So, how about jumping a forklift?
@@XelexMirror Yeah, I thought it was weird that the warehouse was on the roof, too. I've never worked at a mall, so I don't know how accurate that is, but at the very least they had a freight elevator to move things up and down. Still, you think it'd be easier to just keep things near the loading bay. Unless they get their deliveries via helicopter?
Actually, technology was more advanced in the game's timeline, so deliveries might come via aerial drone
@@distance7721 Well, I've worked at a moll. I was a warehouse porter, and our warehouse was on a ground floor. It is: 1) much easier to transport pallets (using pallet-jacks), 2) so much easier to unload incoming trucks, and 3) probably makes more sense, as storing heavy weights on the upper floors puts additional strain on a building structure (and we are speaking *tons* here) -- yes, I'm still paranoid over Sampoong Department Store collapse.
So is the forklift
Worm girl your the best. Your in a league of your own. Love the vids!
Love the physics defying shot at 46:40
Also I adore this series, I am learning so much from it.
7:30 DOOR STUCK
I BEG YOU
When I originally tried this game, I found it dense and almost indecipherable- I only managed to get as far as to hijack a car and go hog wild before crashing and burning. I love your videos not only for the roleplaying aspect, but I’m also learning a lot about the game. Keep up these awesome videos!
haha funny shark

God, I love this series. The editing is phenomenal. Keep it up!
The idea of driving a forklift over a flat roof is terrfying, those things weigh literal tons you would go through the roof in an instant.

I wasn't able to watch until now, thanks to my work schedule, but I'm glad to be back.
You know i was a littlw confused why we hadnt seen any of the... Stranger creatures of the cataclysm, but seeing that migo tower cleared that up
A lot of that stuff doesn't spawn in the mall, and we've mostly been stuck there. We should see a lot more goofy crap now that we're able to leave the place.
The pure joy in your voice when you found a Blåhaj was adorable. My heart can barely take it.
(Bonus points for correct pronunciation too.)
Found you through Fear and Hunger, and now you got me addicted to another obscure, strange game with Cataclysm. I'm still barely able to figure out what to do, but I'm absolutely hooked! This series is helping immensely and is greatly entertaining!
Watching you do all of your sorting/boiling bandages/leatherworking with the bottom and left doors open for 5 minutes really tensed me up. I know you've cleared a good chunk of the mall, but once you get lax is when Murphy's Law kicks in and you get taken by surprise.
Nice! A cuirass is great and all (although with tailoring 6 I would go for an aketon -- most zombie damage is bashing), but with the amount of archery demonstrated in this episode… With all that leather a nice large *quiver* would come in handy. ;-)
i see blahaj, i click video
Watching your playthroughs on CDDA provide me new perspective on things to do in the Cataclysm.
Shark plushie, super cute and wholesome. "Southering succotash" - Daffy Duck :D
Thanks again for continuing the sate and inspire interest and curiosity in your videos , the story so far is enthralling and entertaining. Thank you , thank you
Bye bye baseball helmet

I very much look forward to each new video in this series, it's been an absolute delight to watch. I love the high-pitched whistle the bow sometimes makes; very satisfying.
She's back lets gooooooooooo
I cherish this series!
I love these so much, thank you for making these.
These are great, loving this series. Can't wait for the next one!
Yeah new episode im stoked for these i love your CDDA content.
take care and best of luck with this career path on the platform :)
solid cliffhanger, now we have to make sure The Boy is secured lol
Thank you
Your style of telling the events of your play through as if they constitute the lore in a set story is interesting-you sound basically the same in a review of a game as in your reaction to playing it. It's cool to see that approach mixed in with the small decisions and evaluations being made, which in that context make it seem like the thoughts of the character being explained by you rather than directly your thoughts about everything as a player.
Basically your goal in all of this is clearly to weave a strong narrative with your character and you do really well with that. I just found your channel through Fear and Hunger videos and I guess I'll stick around :P
Just got into cdda a few days ago, and the barrel of water on a brazier trick(from the tutorial series) has changed my life, I've done it in the current steam version with 2l tanks, 4 60l tanks at once, and a 200l tank, plus a 5l bucket all in different runs depending on what id found.
I also love this series naration style because i can listen like i do to an audiobook or podcast and still have a good idea what's going on, whether im playing myself or cooking/doing chores.
I'm really having fun following along with you here! You have a great narration
Great video series
Thank you so much!
Another great episode. Love how it's progressing. Terrified about going outside though...
43:45 What a thrill
ah, so Blåhaj is not pronounced "blah-ja"
Love this series, keep at it please!
Always good day when new vid comes out😊

New episode! Hurrah!
Was patiently waiting for this and it's here!!
i look forward to every single episode that gets posted. its such a nice intro to CDDA, and i love learning the lore
been looking forward!
Haven’t watched yet, but I’m already willing to bet I’m gonna enjoy this
More cdda to get me though work,
Thank you
Fuck yeah! Another episode, glorious.
It's always a good day to see an hour+ worm girl video in your feed
WG: “*gasp* BLÅHAJ!”
Me, recovering from heart failure from the purely wholesome moment: “This is good content.”
Btw I think in the multi tile inventory screen (advanced inventory?) you can press (capital) M to bulk move items so eg if you had 10 of something you can just press it once rather than having to mash the keys. Enjoying the series, also some top tips on inventory management 🙂
Wormgirl upload turns a bad 15 shift into a good day.
Glad I could help, and thank you!
your voice is so soft, i really enjoy watching your vids, i will never play cdda but i love how you describe everything you do
a 70-minute cdda video? My cup runneth over
I noticed that the sprites look similar to undeadpeople, though i realize that there are a few sprites that are in MSXotto that aren't in even the newest UndeaPeople tileset. Are you by chance using MSXotto?
This is just MSXOtto, the one that comes with the game.
Always an absolutely outstanding episode. Missed it a lot! I read through the whole SA playthrough and I am super happy to have found you! Big growth moment! I was here from the first few!
33:34 Can you process condensed milk to make Dulce de Leche?
Man, I wonder what Mellifera would think if she ever lived long enough to start piecing together some of the reason's why the cataclysm happened. Granted it's not like she'd get everything figured out, as some things never really are explained. But yeah nice little story you have for her!
i like that cdda has simulated deciding whats for dinner lol
Love the 'more apocalypses than you can shake a stick at' thing cdda has going, wonder how punk girl goblin will react to the more fucked up and wacky shit that happens
Look into Pentiment, seems like something you might enjoy and if you make it like your Fear&Hunger analysis vids then it calls for a celebration.😊 (Fully knowing the energy required for such a task)
I ended up here from the fear and hunger breakdowns and subscribed for this series. Im here for the long run
Hearing your voice and narration cadence makes me wish for a CDDA: Termina crossover. 😂
That's soooort of, almost what Magiclysm and other Arcane mods can do with CDDA, I think?
What's Worm Girl think of those?
@@Razertas Magiclysm doesn't quite have the feel for it (I stress 'quite'). Arcana and XEDRA Evolved would be a better combo for that Fear & Hunger feeling. Of course, you can do all three.
@@DrakeBarrow I don't think I've ever used XEDRA evolved before, I probably should, from the sound of it?
@@Razertas I can't testify directly to how well it works, as I don't play mainline C:DDA anymore, but from reading the description it sounds pretty good. Definitely closer to the Termina type feel the OP described, especially combined with Arcana.
cant wait for the next episode!
*43:33* It would seem Solid Snake did not survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
I ❤ WORM GIRL
🪱
A new one already? Sweet!
blahaj :)
Yay!
OMG BLAHAJ HAII
Odd question, is it worth it to extensively booby trap an area, then lure zombies using something like gunfire or a boombox? I remember you talking about how housefires are considered cheese tactics in the how to play series, and I'm curious as to how luring zombies into other traps might stack up.
I mean I've been kinda cheesing the fact that you can lead zeds into nailboard traps by putting it on the other side of some laminated glass.
Get a whole room that's laminated (like a greenhouse), set up some traps on the perimeter, make some noise, and you're golden!
It's a sandbox, so really one person's cheese is another person's normal strategy which is fine to do.
Luring zombies into traps with sound feels pretty not-cheesy to me. It takes a lot more effort and time to set something like that up than tossing a lit match into a house, and there's way more room for it to go wrong, so I think it gets a pass.
The house thing is mostly just because of how easy it is to turn a house into an inferno. If it was actually hard to get big fires going it'd be a lot less OP.
blahaj
I Replayed them again to get traction of the story, and yep, I want to try at least this level of survivability since I always tried to make my character as a strong yet a glass cannon.
Having no all over stat really gave me an idea thanks to this... well if i could survive with that many Zs.
My biggest piece of advice is to remember it's a turn based game. If the situation looks grim, get up, make a cup of coffee, and come back and see what you can think up. It won't always work, but it hekps a ton.
@@mutantwormgirl
Welp, it is still mighty helpful since, last year of my first playthrough, didn't know what to do and i got scared of the tons of details and keys i have to press.
But your guide of throwing rocks have been my first push to not just give up, but survive the entire thing, Though I kind of being too over confident just because i got a little better to throw rocks, not knowing that daytime, raiding a town isn't really healthy for me.
Yep, that was my first and true playthrough but I learned from you and lots of the CDDA players out there as my first pebbles to move on.
So yep, your tutorials are the trigger of me being interested to this, death defying, too detailed, close to realistic survival game where dying is getting normal if a single mishap happened.
So yeah, thanks worm girl. o7.
43:33 Is that a Freeman's Mind reference? I'd be unbelievably mad at myself if it was and I'd missed it for so long.
Yaaaay!
Forklift Driver Mellifera Vs The Armies of Darkness
Extra long episode this time! The dilemma between pockets and protection is always a rough one for me when it comes to what kind of clothing to wear. Always a joy to find big stocks of leather/fabric to work with, I tend to grab every pair of leather pants I can find in the early game.
Big cliffhanger for next episode: Will Blåhaj be all right!?
yess
You can press the > button in the inventory menus to show a container's contents, this can help with looting batteries from watches and cell phones!
30:34 also JEDI CLOAK?!
