My Grandfather stopped in Durban on his way back to the UK from India after the end of World War II and said that when they left there were guys jumping off the ship into the sea to swim back because they loved it there so much, he wanted to stay too but went home to Cheshire to try and convince my Grandmother to go out there and settle, she didn`t want to...what`s really amusing is that 42 years later my Mom and Dad decided they wanted a better life for myself, my brother and my sister and we moved to Johannesburg, we did have a much better life than we did in the U.K in the early 80`s...what a shame that 34 years after we moved there , had set up a business, employed 38 South Africans, we all ended up leaving due to rampant crime and economic discrimination at the very hands of those Britain put in place to "Save" the country... Back in rainy and cold Cheshire now and hating every minute of it! I`d give my right arm to be sitting on a beach in Kwa Zulu Natal with a cold beer and thoughts of a 1/4 Mutton Bunny for dinner later...
Regardless of what happened in the past that caused you to go back to the UK and that the country; the continent, and the world, in fact, is going through a rough time. Home is where the heart is if you feel there is hope for the place and that things will work out at the end, and that your heart will be at peace. Then go ahead and make KZN your home again!
Durban is a profoundly beautiful and interesting Multicultural city, Kwa Zulu Natal, is magnificent... The happiest days of my life were spent here, and one day soon I shall choose to return to retire and be with the people who've given and shown me more love and care than any other place that I have lived!
@@mabhodlelajj1195 well, it is true i dont know a single South African who hasnt had violent crime deeply affect them. Me personally ive had two of my closest friends murdered, ive been hijacked at gun point twice, shot at, mugged 3 times, my house broken into twice. Still love the place though but it is a damn dangerous place.

The Rainbow nation died years ago, and reverse discrimination is the flavour of the day, with corruption, nepotism and crime. I have lived in Durban for 50 years so I should know. So sad what has become of one of the best cities in the world.
last time I was in Durban was 1994.it was such a beautiful city .the ANC has made it a hell hole. destroy a beautiful city and Country. it's all going back to the bush.thank you Great Britain and America
What you think G.Britain owns you, Duban or KwaZulu Land? I an not sure what you think Britian or the British people or goverment have done since 1994. Maybe they did nothing when you expedted some ruling or something.
Lovely video!! To add, there is another city on earth that feels like Durban, and actually bears the name in some of its neighbourhoods like Durban Backlands, where I lived for a while, and that is in the little city of Georgetown, Guyana South America. Trinidad, just an hour off the coast of Guyana by air feels exactly like Durban. All these racist persimist South Africans that have made numb comments on this video have no effing clue what they are talking about!!! You lot have no idea how big the wave of future tourism is. The world is hungry for a piece of South Africa, and they do not want to see you, they want to see Africa at its best! When racisits leave, South Africa will definately have new world citezens, you will not be missed! The fun is just beginning! The Spanish, Venezuelans, Argentinians, Mexicans, Germans, Rissians the Swiss...everybody is coming over. I am in Argentina right now, and there is a whole generation of young people who want to see our beautiful land and eat our delicious food. I do talks at local schools promoting our country and its culture while telling the story of Apartheid...and I can tell you now, none give a damn about the ricist right. They are coming! Sie kommen! Se vienen! Ze komen! Bayeza! :-)
Durban is the best city in the country. It use to be much better before then what it is today. I was born and brought up here. CBD is horrible, that's why most of the Durban people don't go there that much
This guy must've visited Durban blind-folded with headphones. I couldn't believe the level of racism I heard and witnessed in Durban. The cultures there are clearly quite divided still and don't fit together at all. Nobody smiles in Durban. I felt Johannesburg was a much more united city by comparison.
Nothing mentioned about coloured people at all..we suppose to be a rainbow nation...the heart of the rainbow dwells within a race that consists of all nationalities in one body..I enjoyed the video...but a bit disheartened .Documentary needs to have a part 2...or redone...
Maybe colour is not an issue except for those with colour issue requirements. There were a few colours represented visually and so maybe that was enough.
Durban was a great place but it’s a shame Andrew gets confused with what is the common interpretation of multiculturalism and what it really means, I.e. many people from different cultures come together to share one common culture. A common view shared by a majority of different ethnic backgrounds.
WingedBull1 London has crime in some parts...... Must mean all of the U.K is a crime filled dangerous area that no one should ever visit let alone live in.

Great. Durban is my favourite South African city. I have a lot of great childhood memories visiting Durban for the holidays. It's definitely a cultural melting pot. Hope to visit soon. It's been way too long.
I read that in the late 18th century there were many tribes in the area now known as KwaZulu Natal, 2 of the main tribes were the Ndwandwe and the Mthethwa, and the Zulu were a smaller tribe subordinate to the Mthethwa Chief. When Shaka was a young man, the Chief of the Mthethwa was called Ngodongwana, known as Dingiswayo (the wanderer). Shaka and his mother had been exiled by his father, Senzangakhona, Chief of the relatively unimportant Zulu tribe, and taken in by Dingiswayo. By 1818 Dingiswayo had managed to unite at least 30 tribes under his dominion, but whilst warring with the Ndwandwe, he was captured and killed, and Shaka took control of the situation, and was victorious over the Ndwandwe, and soon both the Mthethwa and the Ndwandwe were Shaka's subjects. He inherited Dingiswayo's empire and the vast extension of the Ndwandwe area. From that year (1818) the Zulu military monarchy may be said to have been established. So most Zulus today are not Zulus by blood
