The airport is so good that I once checked in 10 hrs before the morning flight and just spent the night wandering the garden, restaurants, vending machines, movie theatre, and the swimming pool all in the transit area. They even have an area where you can nap/sleep comfortably, so if you only carry a bag, you don't need to book a hotel 😂
I've got a layover in CHangi later this year and was told that 6 hours would be too long because I would be bored. But after this video, I now wish I had booked for a longer layover!
Honestly, don't just rot in the airport. Singapore isn't just one airport. We have neighbourhoods of hawker centres and coffee shops, streets with Peranakan shophouses, and a business district with modern infrastructure.
Yep, they did it because there's a really profitable business case behind it, but there's also quite a lot of meaning and symbolism behind it. Singapore is a hub of hubs right, a gateway; an airport doesn't have to be just a depresing building where people wait for their flights and worse, if they get delayed, waiting around with nothing to do (yep, goes to show that I've travelled around North American airports quite extensively). It's actually quite a nice, friendly and considerate thing to do/provide. Think about this: they didn't actually have to do all that right, and they could still probably attract a sizeable transit market even with just a basic, stock standard airport, but they chose to do something like this instead. An analogy would be like being in a waiting room at the dentist, but some dentist places provide you with water and sweets while you wait and have a play area for your kids etc. Whereas other waiting areas just has seats and nothing more. Nothing is ever completely free by the way. It's just so crazy how many people it serves - almost 70 million pre-covid, and projected to be multiple times that once T5 is up and running. Yet it's such a safe and clean country where everything runs well. At the same time they arrest far fewer people than New Zealand for example (where I currently live). Does it feel oppressive? Look at all the people, young and old, out and about just them being them. So no, it's actually pretty easy-going. It's a bustling place, but in terms of personal temperament they are really easy-going (a friend of mine just got jumped by three thugs last week at a McDonald's in Wellington and ended up in hospital, if I showed you pics of his injury you'd be shocked).
Now, compare this to my home airport (LAX) where till this day, there is no direct rail service to the terminals, you need to take a shuttle bus just to get an Uber ride and a mile walk from your gate to the baggage claim with no assistance for those who have difficulty doing so. This is what happens when labor unions control an airport and refuse to concede to technology and automation. BTW, I've been to Changi many times and can confirm that it's light years ahead of anything we have here in the U.S.
thats like our main airport in melbourne australia, its nothing much to look at even though its an international airport and the only way there from the melbourne inner city is to drive by car, get a shuttle, take a taxi, a uber or dido
My wife and I traveled to Singapore past December 22, Singapore was awesome and changi airport is very incredible is my favorite airport greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽

As a Singaporean, Jewel is a destination for locals and foreigners alike. What makes it unique is the theme (city in a garden), it is iconic and recognisable from around the world. I noticed many other airports around the world lacks a theme to their terminals.
The Jewel is such a genius aspect to add to the airport. After seeing the graphic at 7:04 it makes absolute perfect sense for the country to prioritize the airport as much as these do. I've known about Changi airport for a few years now, and its definitely a place I definitely want to catch a flight to
I used to work in Changi Airport, through my insider's eye, i can appreciate the amount of research done by the backstage crew to present these useful tips and infomation. you've nailed it, its gonna be difficult to present another video about changi better than this one
I had a layover there recently for a day and I couldn't believe how great the airport really was. The waterfall was surreal and the mall at the airport was amazing. I recommend going there
I went there when I was in Singapore for a few days during my time in Malaysia. I can see why this is the best airport in the world. I tried out the slides and it was so fun. It’s an amusement park, airport and shopping centre roll into one.
I can spend a whole week here, if not a while month. Don't know if I'd be allowed to, but if I am allowed to, I can. Like seriously, this airport has everything. Lots of local and foreign restaurants, a whole ass shopping mall, movie theater, indoor garden, butterfly garden, amusement area etc. I wish more countries had an equivalent to Singapore Changi Airport. Cuz then I wouldn't complain about delays or long layovers.
Yes, unlike crazy airport food prices in the US, or Tel Aviv, food prices at Changi Airport is surprisingly affordable. It even has a 4 story tall metal slide near the entrance of Terminal 3.
Best airport in the world. So much to do and it's a vibe. I saw someone getting there wedding photos done there it was actually quite magical. All the greenery is beautiful too
when my friend told me democracy is really flawed.I look at Singapore and say "Damn Right bro". this efficient government is the main reason for Singapore success.
Idk man, the government is also not perfect, the fake news law has probably killed off a lot of independent news outlet. If the government is doing some shady stuff, nobody would know
Their democracy worked because they started with an essentially autocratic leader, and they lucked out with having a rare benevolent forward-thinking one, not the usual corrupt greedy ones that plague other nations. He stirred them during their early nation-building years, and thus have set the standard on how their politicians should act.
I.e. government taking 10 % of gdp resources for airport + president being a millionaire while average citizen lives in apartments and you get caned for chewing gum.
@@sosopwsi829Jjw9first of all the apartments are the best in the world. the population density of that tiny island is 8000+ per sqkm. so what do you expect. if the government didn't owned 80% of the property the people would have to live in the streets. Singaporean government takes 20% of the income of every citizen as their savings. so when one turns 65 and retire they get their money back. and also the savings can be used for as healthcare insurance plus education money for college. And the prime minister being a millionaire is not an issue. at least they are doing what they suppose to.they have the lowest crime rate, corruption rate in the world that explains it why. as for the chewing gum part being banned...it has to do with its cleanness, its the cleanest city in the world.and remember it all happened in only 50 years. from being a slum with no naturall resources to the richest country in asia.
Not to mention the absolute safety in Singapore. No pickpockets and no scammers lurking around. And by 'No' I mean the lowest quantity in the whole world.
My first time ever in Changi was last year, my flight arrived in SG at around 11AM, so I thought I might spend a couple hours just walking around the place and grab some lunch. That was a complete lie, I ended up leaving at around 4PM, and even then, I had to try to restrain myself not to spend anymore time there going from shop to shop and walking around the incredible garden and skybridge upstairs
All the terminals at the airport have different attractions, including various massive artworks. Even one day might not be enough to truly enjoy the whole airport. And I am only referring to the land side without the need for travel tickets.
Landed in Singapore, short walk to a shuttle, to a hotel. Next day woke up, got on a shuttle, arrived airport got on a shuttle, entered plane and flew out of Singapore. Did not see anything of interest. But the system was fast efficient and clean, so clean.
I went to Singapore about 4 years ago! It was ranked one of the best holidays I have ever experienced. I remember the koi pond at Changi Airport, the fish were poking their heads out of the water asking for food from us 😆 I am extremely excited to go back in just a few days time! Would definitely recommend people who haven't been to Singapore to go there one day! ❤
The first time I went to Spore in 2016 I was in awe of Changi and have been there many times since. I have been to many of the top 10 but Changi is Numero Uno❤❤❤
I had like a 10 hr halt in this airport while coming back from India and I was shocked on how insane, luxurious and gigantic this airport is. I didn't even get enough time to see the whole airport but still got to checkout some big brands, the sky train and the jewel.
As an American and once-week traveler all over the world, I am so ashamed of US airports and regard flying into or out of any US airport. wake up us airports Thank you for this video
I have to totally agree. Singapore Airport IS the best airport in the World. It is almost like going out to a Fun Park just going there. It is clean, open, plenty of shops and so much more.
3:46 This is actually pretty genius. Imagine using all the kids visiting the airport and having that energy stored so the airport can use it not just for charging but anything else like LED lights or something else to lessen the cost of other stuff. I've seen other creative ideas for bouncing floors to generate small amounts of electricity. Trapping crowds of people and making them walk in the areas that generate energy would be an awesome idea. Just maybe not going overboard with it. Like different ways to capture human physical force into energy but splitting it up. Kinda like doing the walkway but only for like 100 yards or so and then later have it again. Putting them out strategically around the airport.
Been there, it is beautiful. It was also quiet and not ultra crowded like other airports. Singapore is impressive, except the living expense is quite high. I spent $100/night at the hotel and I got like a 2 stars hotel with that price, and it was 2019. Now in 2023, I bet the night is costing at least $150 if not $200 for a crappy room.
@@shirobuta Hotel expense. Land prices in Singapore are very expensive and that translates to hotel lodging as well. Living expense is manageable. If you dont dine in fancy restaraunts, there are always cheaper options that are about 5 USD a meal.
I tell you what, their pool is great. Sitting by it in a deckchair at like 9 pm, severely jetlagged, a humid 40 degrees, downing ice cold tiger beers was the most fun I've ever had in an airport
As a Singaporean I can confirm many of us go to JEWEL as leisure, which the mall also caters to. Only issue is the high prices there 😂 but hey, we have Pokémon Centre
Fun fact, the reason why all the floor is carpeted is because its sound proofing, it was designed to stop the sounds of wheels moving. This incudes inside the maintaine hallways.
I'm going to Singapore in January 2025 for my work and I cannot wait. Not looking forward to the flight time but am so looking forward to seeing this gem!!

I love Changi, been through it many times, but they have added hell of a lot more since I was there last, hope to travel through Changi again soon...fingers crossed.
I haven't travelled internationally for 31 years. Till this year. When my younger sister lucked out on a promo with a budget airline that will let us fly into Singapore at the same price we would spend travelling to Boracay. I am a Filipino and flying to Singapore was not just my first International Flight. It was also my first experience flying AT ALL. So it is really breathtaking to see such a beautiful airport right after you land. I cannot say exactly whether it is the best airport in the world or not but I will say this. The beauty of this airport definitely sets a high standard of my expectations of what an airport should be. So imagine my pain when I had to go back to NAIA after seeing this beauty. It is really really painful. I wish that in my lifetime, I get to have another go at travelling to Singapore and have the money to spend doing what I want. Because it is quite expensive to dine and go around the country.
There are also capsule hotels in Changi, and it cost half of the air side hotels on the video. Plus, sleeping pods are available spreading around the terminals and you can rent it hourly. Some of those are even free for a quick nap.
though I get many direct flights from delhi but I always prefer to take scoot flight from amritsar and come to Singapore .the layover is just ❤❤❤❤❤ I love this airport

But after this video, I now wish I had booked for a longer layover!
hope your 2nd flight gets delayed? lol
I worked in singapore from 2000 to 2008 and singapore airport is awesome, now i am working in bahrain and i am amazed when i see singapore airport.
My airport, ohare in Chicago, is nothing like changi, but it’s way better than LAX.
Not just Singapore must airports better than anywhere in us . Airports dreadful
Wow LAX, this cant be real. what kind of airport design is that?
Not to bring up politics but when Trump said "our airports are like a third world country", when you fly in from Dubai, Singapore, HK,
Bro Imagine explaining your parents that you missed the flight because you got lost in a park maze inside of the airport 💀💀
My wife and I traveled to Singapore past December 22, Singapore was awesome and changi airport is very incredible is my favorite airport greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Warm greetings back from SG!
Props to the architects and engineers, they never fail to captivate me with what they construct
Never have I ever been jealous of an airport before 😩
😂😂😂😂
changi is truly the best airport possible that starting a journey there makes any airport you touch down on disappointing
Couldn't agree more, the most amazing airport in the most amazing city, trip to Singapore has never been boring and the Singapore airlines! No.match for it
I was just here in January and, I gotta say... This airport BLEW ME AWAY
Gorgeous everywhere you look! I felt at ease immediately after arriving
I was stuck there for 24 hours once. Glad it was there and not the Bali airport I had just flown out of.
As a Singaporean, Jewel is a destination for locals and foreigners alike. What makes it unique is the theme (city in a garden), it is iconic and recognisable from around the world. I noticed many other airports around the world lacks a theme to their terminals.
Because we go to airports to fly in an airplane. That’s the whole point of it. Singapore decided to say “Yeah but….”
Im really happy the reporter finally got her chance to go see this place ❤
Thats one of the coolest interior green spaces I've ever seen! The world needs more of this!
True talks
The Jewel is such a genius aspect to add to the airport. After seeing the graphic at 7:04 it makes absolute perfect sense for the country to prioritize the airport as much as these do. I've known about Changi airport for a few years now, and its definitely a place I definitely want to catch a flight to
I used to work in Changi Airport, through my insider's eye, i can appreciate the amount of research done by the backstage crew to present these useful tips and infomation. you've nailed it, its gonna be difficult to present another video about changi better than this one
I've always transited in singapore just for one particular reason which is Changi!
Turning an airport into a tourist attraction is just brilliant!!!
I mean... u can if ur willing to book the hotel in there for a month. It's vry expensive tho
Yes, unlike crazy airport food prices in the US, or Tel Aviv, food prices at Changi Airport is surprisingly affordable. It even has a 4 story tall metal slide near the entrance of Terminal 3.
This place is magical.
Best airport in the world. So much to do and it's a vibe. I saw someone getting there wedding photos done there it was actually quite magical. All the greenery is beautiful too
As a Malaysian, this makes me proud for Singapore, it's like seeing our son being successful.
More like a broken off piece of appendage
Imagine when her son is successful than his mom.
when my friend told me democracy is really flawed.I look at Singapore and say "Damn Right bro".
this efficient government is the main reason for Singapore success.
@@mjjjuly i know that. i have studied about Singapore few months ago
I.e. government taking 10 % of gdp resources for airport + president being a millionaire while average citizen lives in apartments and you get caned for chewing gum.
Love Changi ❤️. One of the things I like the most is that security is just at the departure gate, it makes transiting Changi so much better.
Great report! Changi is the best 👍
i spent 16 hrs here and it felt like part of the holiday ! love Changi!
Landed in Singapore, short walk to a shuttle, to a hotel. Next day woke up, got on a shuttle, arrived airport got on a shuttle, entered plane and flew out of Singapore. Did not see anything of interest. But the system was fast efficient and clean, so clean.
A pity you did not have the time to visit. Hopefully your next trip you will have time to see ! ( and eat some Local food ) !
I went to Singapore about 4 years ago! It was ranked one of the best holidays I have ever experienced. I remember the koi pond at Changi Airport, the fish were poking their heads out of the water asking for food from us 😆
I am extremely excited to go back in just a few days time! Would definitely recommend people who haven't been to Singapore to go there one day! ❤
I was there last week, and it’s amazing in person
Truly incredible. Changi is really the best airport in the world
True
Imagine living in an airport that would be so fun
There has hotel in the airport lo why u want to imagine living in an airport
Great video. Definitely on my bucket list now!
Disney World: We got a monorail that cuts right through the atrium of a hotel.
Singapore: Heh, cute
The first time I went to Spore in 2016 I was in awe of Changi and have been there many times since. I have been to many of the top 10 but Changi is Numero Uno❤❤❤
Spore seriously 😂
Changi is AMAZING! Flown through here alot to get into India and also just for vacation
Let's go Brandon!
US has some good airports, but it’s always the rotting ones that are the most visited. It’s a shame that our country is represented by that too.
@@sktoh4469 Not just Brandon, entire Congress and Senate failed miserably.
My wife and I would purposely find a flight with a long layover in Singapore just to hang out at the Jewel.
I have to totally agree. Singapore Airport IS the best airport in the World. It is almost like going out to a Fun Park just going there. It is clean, open, plenty of shops and so much more.
3:46
This is actually pretty genius.
My mom and I enjoyed this video, thank you!
Living expense or hotel expenses?
I've always wanted to visit Singapore. I probably never will though. The people are some of the friendliest I've ever met.
Crazy. Lots of terrible people here as well.
@@Rash7 Every country has good and bad ppl, Sg is no exception
I have a friend from Singapore and he says people to go the airport to do their homework and study, kind of like how you’d do in a library lol
The waterfall is worth seeing! Especially during the light show. It's unreal
I was expecting the construction to cost a lot more than $1.8 billion, considering Singapore is one of the wealthiest nation.
Yeah but naturally, not everyone in Singapore is wealthy
What is the link?
they're also pretty efficient with their money so isn't that a good thing?
@@choochoo-ky9kc Of course!
Because the construction workers are not Singaporeans but immigrants who are paid less than $500 per month
Wish there were airports in the US like this. Just amazing.
IM SO PROUD OF MY COUNTRY
Fun fact, the reason why all the floor is carpeted is because its sound proofing, it was designed to stop the sounds of wheels moving. This incudes inside the maintaine hallways.
i just flew SQ biz class sin- sfo on March 4th. Stayed over 23 hours in the airport.
I'm going to Singapore in January 2025 for my work and I cannot wait. Not looking forward to the flight time but am so looking forward to seeing this gem!!
Spectacular airport and great tour
Probably the greatest work of modern art in the world. This is Archeo-futurism, the Aesthetic ideal of the old world combined with futuristic technology.
I like how I live just 15 minutes away from the airport. Frequently going there to have meals or take a stroll at Jewel with my family & friends.
I wish I could walk there. I also live nearby with easy access to bus
I would love to visit Singapore 🇸🇬 and see this incredible airport one day.
Singaporeans just go to jewel for a day trip lol I love changi airport
Welcome to Singapore, insider! 🤗🇸🇬🛬
I love Changi, been through it many times, but they have added hell of a lot more since I was there last, hope to travel through Changi again soon...fingers crossed.
That doesn’t even look and feel like an airport anymore. It’s beyond that, and it’s amazing.
Rain vortex does not run 24/7, FYI. I think 10am up to around 10pm only. Been there last week.
Maintenance is required. Nothing can realistically run 24/7
man has made so many architectures in the world but ultimately it's the nature where one finds solace
You're blessed that the one airport you traveled to in 31 years is the best airport in the world :)
Air side hotels are a godsend when you have an extended layover.
Landed in Changi and I was in a cab to the city within 6minutes. Yes, I timed it.
Even the shopping mall is still the cleanest in the universe, good job SG
wholesome, that reporter had the time of her life there
Love Singapore everything
It’s also so beautiful. We need more greenery In the world. I bet the oxygen would feel so clean in there.
