Aloha! I just have to say, this video is so captivating and engaging and genuinely kind and smart. You and your team give confidence and hopefulness and sincerity that makes me feel like it is ok to live in Hawaii and share in the beautiful culture and respect the struggle also. Being from CANADA, I sister and I have dreamt our whole lives to one day have a property in Oahu. My mom used to bring us there every year for 12 years before my parents passed away. I had watched many videos from people who really left me with an impression that we may not be welcome to live there. Your encouragement and dedication to teaching people the respectful and humble way to be guest and a resident to the islands, has changed everything for me personally. And I appreciate your words so much. Mahalo

It's easy to be bitter as a local person who has no hope of ever affording to buy real estate here. Can you please do videos for local people, maybe those living with family, renting, or those on a single income. What do we need to be doing? What is the pathway towards home ownership?

Yes, we will. A goal of mine is to have a financial course or club of sorts for young local people so that we can affect the next generation in keeping their family homes and buying more.

      1. Truck Driving. Walmart pays 100k a year for truck drivers. Drive for 5-10 years, save your money. If you have a best friend, do team-driving and make a little more. Got a girl but no kid? = do a team driving. Save your money, come back and buy a house. A male/female couple can make 200k a year driving trucks. It's actually pretty fun too, especially for the first few years.
      2. Software. Learn to code almost any language and you can work from home. Software developers, project managers, business analysts, administrators, product managers, almost all make over 130k a year and work from home. If you can't code or just can't learn it because you're not smart enough, then learn those other titles. You can learn anything online. Certifications are $200 and they'll get you a job faster than a $300k degree. Bullshit your way to success just like everybody else.
      3. Oil industry - underwater wielding, etc. Learn that trade, work for 3-6 months a year, chill 3-6 months a year. Some of those guys make $200-300k/year.
      4. Alaskan Fisherman. Work 3-6 months a year, make 15k a month. Save your money.
I grew up poor. When you can't afford to live somewhere then you move somewhere that you can afford to live. I've done that many times. When your job isn't paying enough, you find a job that pays more. I've done that many times too.
*Latinos come to America because they know they can make more money in the USA then they can in Mexico or whatever country they are from. It's also safer and a better quality of life for them and they know that their children will have a better future growing up in America and that their children won't have to live in poverty. So they make the bold move to America and even though they are illegal, even though they do not even speak English, they make life better for themselves, their family, and most importantly, for their family's future.*
You can't just sit still waiting on the world around you to change in your favor. You have to go out there and make things happen for yourself. & If you fail, you have to try again, and again, and again.
For _some_ adults, maybe it's better to be poor in Hawaii than middle class on the mainland. But when children are involved, it's better for that child to grow up in a home on the mainland than it is to grow up homeless in Hawaii. The children's future and well being are more important. You don't want them to grow up with your struggles so you have to have a 1st generation mindset and make sacrifices so that your children can grow up having to make less sacrifices than you did.
I know Hawaiians who love it on the mainland. *One of my sons teacher is Hawaiian and she loves the mainland*. I asked her why and she said she loves her 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom house (200k/$950 a month), her brand new car, and only working 8 hours a day for 9 months out of the year.
Hawaiians are Americans. Hawaiians have more privileges than the 30+ million illegal immigrants living on the mainland and yet many those illegal immigrants are living a better life because they go where the money is. They take that money and start a business and climb the economic ladder and they came from real struggle, real ghettos, not our 1st world bullshit struggle.
You can be bitter all you want but there are people coming here illegally who can't even speak English and who have 100 times LESS privilege than you do and they become successful so you have nothing to compare hardships with them; none of us do. You have to go where the money is...
There are hundreds of millions of people around the world that would literally kill somebody for a U.S. Citizenship. Focus on the privilege that you have and go where the money is.

@@turbowtime9611 Extremely well said. Being an American who grew up poor on Long Island, this mindset is what got me moving & venturing out to new places instead of staying home being afraid of everything. I figured if foreigners who don't even speak English were coming here for work and education, I could venture out into New York City too. See, on Long Island, there were people who saw NYC as this really dangerous place that Long Islanders didn't go to, especially young women. Bull! You are so spot on, you should write a book about this.

I think something that definitely needs to be stressed as a practical, but serious point, is that Hawaii will not be a great fit for those people who are expecting a fully “White/Western” culture just transferred into a more tropical environment. Obviously, Hawaii won’t ever be Indiana in the Tropics, but it also will never fully be SoCal in the Tropics either.
The Asian/Polynesian culture will always be the major influence in Hawaii…so people who plan to live there vs simply vacationing there must understand what this will mean for their life. When in Rome, do as the Romans do…when in Hawaii, do as the “Locals” do…

In my calculations, if one purchases a condo cash sale and is reasonably healthy, they can live comfortably off of $2000. net per month. I've been told this is impossible, but if one cooks at home & doesn't eat out & buy expensive designer stuff, or have a pet, or children, or a car, it seems to me to be possible. Your thoughts...

      @movingtohawaii  2 года назад +1

Yes of course. Everyone’s expenses and priorities vary. My business requires having a car. At one point I considered going full “Mr. Money Mustache” style and biking everywhere. You can likely make it work.
