No offense taken! They are super old houses I just assumed that that was the popular layout back then. A lot of the other older houses on base had the same layouts as well
Dorothy Piedra it’s not necessarily hard to get a newer house. But here they don’t go by rank they just go by your family size and since my husband and I don’t have any children we got a smaller house. He was actually the one that picked the house. We heard a lot about the newer housing having issues with rats and things like that. And we also didn’t want to have to share a wall like with the duplexes.
You’re not allowed to pick the colors before hand but you can paint the house, you just have to paint it back before moving out. Yeah not the prettiest of colors but you can make any house a home if you decorate it and put your twist on it.
We don’t have snakes in Hawaii at all, they are not native here. Surprisingly because our house is more elevated off the ground we haven’t had issues with bugs. The only thing we have is with geckos. But we just catch and release them outside.

They did build back yards a few months before we had moved but I have no idea about how much money you would save unfortunately

Yes it is! Fort Shafter is in Honolulu. This is on Schofield Barracks. About 20 min away.
