I tried to get my health insurance to cover my prescription for “Lovaza”. I tried and my cardiologist tried and it was next to impossible. The health insurance said I must first try over the counter fish oil supplements and proof that they don’t work by providing supporting Documentation that the brand purchased and the dose taken and I had to give it at least four weeks of failure to reduce my triglycerides and then they would cover it. So I did my research and I found a company that extracted and packaged pharmaceutical grade fish oil by the name of “Omegavia” and their gel capsules were quite concentrated. I took 3 grams for a month and did another blood test and “Triglycerides” were now within normal range. And they weren’t even that expensive, something like “$26.00” for a month’s supply. So I didn’t bother with the “Lovaza”, I found something just as good over the counter.
Honestly Omegavia is far better quality than Lovaza! For starters Lovaza is an ethyl esther form that our bodies dont absorb well. Also it's produces from salmon and mackerel that are both cheap and consistently report higher levels of mercury and other heavy metals. Omegavia on the other is produced from small anchovees that have far less heavy metal exposure, omegavia also gets third party tested for heavy metals and its produced using co2 extraction so the omega 3s arent getting denatured.
I should be sleeping. But I just found your channel and I cannot stop watching the videos. I think I only have a few left to watch, then what am I gonna watch?? Seriously, I've watched so many pharmacology videos and these are by far the best. Thank you very much!
Great video! There is so much confusion about how to pick the best Omega 3 (regardless if it's from fish or from algae), as most people are looking at the products with the highest EPA and DHA. I find out that doesn't matter how much EPA+DHA has a product, but matter most how well is protected that product against OXIDATION. Personally, I use an fish oil that comes with blood tests that measures the Omega 3 levels every 4th month, so in this way I make sure that I receive the right amount
Loving your videos. Amazed not more subscribers yet. Came here for the beta blockers video and just stayed for more. Nice relaxed style with great graphics and detailed scientific information that even a layperson can understand. Would love one on metformin if you get the time.
Thank you so much for the support! Yes there are a lot of videos planned. Diabetes is one of my favorite topics, so there will be videos on metformin and everything else!
Great info, thanks 🙏. The International Fish Oil Standard or IFOS, rates EVERY fish oil and rates according to quality, purity, heavy metals, stability and dosage etc Worth a look to know you are getting the best you can for the price you have. 😊
I had moderate To high LDL, started taking fish oil and it caused my LDL to go much higher. 136 to 180 and I was dieting. Didn’t work for me but it could still work for you. I did feel more calm. I’m not a doctor.
Awesome knowledge towards my health in healing from strong holds of bad foods very encouraging on the road too a healthy way of living thank you keep posting on this journey
Great explanation! I take fish oil among lots of other over the counter supplements all in an effort to lower my RX meds, improve my eyesight, help me with stress and body aches and to improve my mood. Please keep going and also include your opinion on the added ingredients in supplements and what is an ineffective supplement. Thank you!
What I didn't understand is how Omega 3 lowers Triglyceridine and at the same time raises levels of LDL As you explained in the hands of vitamin B3 that preventing the production of triglycerides will lead to a decrease in LDL
@@PolPotsPieHole thank you so much! I want to take Family Medicine in the future. I need to master Pharmacology. I am now done with my Internship and will be studying soon for boards. thank you thank you
Great video, thanks for sharing. Have you heard of Zinzino BalanceOil? It helps balance the Omega 6:3 Ratio close to a ratio of 3:1 and comes with a before and after dry-blood test to show the results. Most people have an Omega 6:3 ratio of 20:1 or more and from the tests done we can see that most fish oil products don't do the work when it comes to obtaining a healthy balance.
I am taking Niacinamide 500mg by Solaray with Aloe Vera. No problem flushing ( this is derivative). I take Nordic ultra omega 3, I also take Mega coQ10 ubiquinol 100mg super absorption.
I learned something new - fish oil lowers triglyceride levels, yet it raises LDL levels. My LDL is high, (182), my triglyceride is very low (108). Fish oil is not for me then ?? I've been taking it for 6-7 years, 2 g/day. Should I stop ? By the way my HDL is very high (108). Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
*The best healthy form of fish oil is Triglyceride form. Ethyl Ester form is cheap to make so most companies use that but it is very harmful for your health. When you consume Ethyl Ester form it create all kind of side effects on your body. I end up getting heart burn pain on tummy, discomfort and anxiety after consuming Ethyl Ester form even though the company said it is Salmon fish oil with high EPA DHA. When I got those side effects I did the thermocol test and find out the brand that made me sick is using Ethyl Ester form. So I am staying away from that brand. Also swallow the capsule do not break it in your mouth while consuming fish oil supplements especially if it is in Ethyl Ester form. Ethyl Ester form burn everything inside*
Omega 3 competes with 6 and 9 which are inflammatory and bad for you. This means you have to also cut out 6 and 9 to see the benefit of 3. This can be easily done by not consuming vegetable seed oils, Canola, Soy, etc.
The EPA/DHA stated is in how much fish oil? What does the bottle say. He is talking about total fish oil not counting the EPA/DPA. If each capsule is 1000mgs and it states on the bottle to take 2 you'll get 2000mg fish oil and your 800/500 EPA/ DHA from your 2 capsules.
Just take the number of capsules to get 4 grams of fish oil and neglect the EPA/DHA. I'm your next blood test get an omega index done and you'll find out your ALA EPA DHA DPA with an indeed number and a table to compare where you're at with the dose you're taking. Any changes in fish oil get another index. Always test for the drugs you are taking to be sure you're in the right range. The showing said I'd bet you high, you want an index around 7-8.
At the fish spots they fry the fish in canola oil or vegetable oil. What is healthier in oils to cook the fish and preserve the omega 3? Baked fish is undercooked.
Is it that 4g of fish oil gives about 2.5g of Omega-3 ? Omega3s are mostly triglycerides, but do reduce triglycerides. The most important point being as you can not reduce omage6 intake, take omega3 to balance them out. And there are relationships with Vitamin E. Those are also important for the eyes comfort.
Thank you that was very informative, now I know why my LDL is high because I was advised to take fish oil twice per day morning and evening a total of four capsule per day so my blood work LDL came out high now I know why.
So Fishoil can treat high triglyceride levels but also raise LDL? Which means.....does it matter if we take it at all if it´s doing both good and bad for the heart!?
My triglycerides are low (108), my LDL is high at 182. But my HDL is high at 108. I've been taking wild Salmon oil for 6-7 years. My primary care dr now wants to put me on Atorvastin 40mg. Im not convinced her recommendation is right for me.
Hi Doctor, will the otc fish oils work. I've been doing some research & I see it was stated that ethyl ester was bad & I saw videos on RUclips showing that it ate through Styrofoam. I purchased someone nature made fish oils, but it listed the omega 3s as ethyl ester, so I returned it. I just tried this test using some spring valley fish oil pills. it says it includes 1060mg of omega 3 fats acids as triglycerides & the epa/dha are also showing as EE & it ate through the Styrofoam cup. So I wanted to know are ethyl esther & triglycerides are the same?
I get insomnia from taking Omega 3 tablets, regardless if it is Algae based or fish oil based. I've tested this multiple times over the years. I can handle it if I take low doses. For example I can't take even one tablet of Lovaza every day without it affecting my sleep. Seems like one tablet every other day is tolerable.
What about the omega 3 from plants, such as purslane. Purslane is a common weed to most people but I raise a lot of plants, and the purslane just kept coming up in the pots so i researched it. It has the highest known concentration of omega 3 of any plant on the planet, as far as currently known. I like it raw but it contain oxalates and I have a kidney problem, so I cook it with other veggies to eliminate the oxalates.
Thank goodness unregulated fish oil is available. I'm praying that the FDA doe not gain control over the fish oil supplement market. The FDA wants to control all supplements. Thank god people have prevented them from doing so thus far.
How can patients who are taking aspirin daily take fish oil as there will be a risk of excessive bleeding. Is there an alternative or maybe not take fish oil regularly?
Is it ok to take Omega 3 fish oil supplement (one per day) with Clopidogrel (one a day) ?? if it's not ok then is it ok to eat oily fish (Salmon, Sardines etc) while on clopidogrel??
Hi there. That's what i found on the internet, if it's still any help for you. "...In conclusion, high-dose fish oil is safe in combination with aspirin and clopidogrel and does not increase the risk of bleeding compared with that seen with aspirin and clopidogrel alone..... Taking fish oil at the same time as blood thinners may cause problems with bleeding. Talk with your doctor first if you want to take more than 3 grams a day of a fish oil supplement. Doses this high can also increase the risk of bleeding..". And personally i believe it is OK to eat oily fish with your medication since it doesn't have as much Omega 3 acids as fish oil supplements.
