Only after making this video do I realize that you can deploy Kerbal parachutes by pressing the 'P' button...
it's a seat and an engine, it's not that hard. go make one yourself.

When Squad could have fixed a 'glitch' and disabled parachutes for seated Kerbals, they made this easier instead. That's how we know they really do care.

The lightest strongest lander you can build is a service compartment so maybe one of those?
I'd say the point is valid : you can build a long and heavy hull without having to worry about the wingspan and the wings' drag.

Could you create a very low drag SSTO which generates sufficient takeoff lift with the chute, then cuts them for lower drag high-speed flight?
A great space saver in the hangars. No pesky wings that take up space, just fold them chutes up.
Also: weirdly for kerbal space, no explosions? No rapid uncontrolled deconstruction (unless you count ditching the capsules before takeoff).
I can tell this is a grate video with that music choice
this is why i love the KSP devs. they literally make almost anything a new feature just so that their community can have as much fun as possible! they are the only devs i know that value players over money! bravo.

That is so very genious. You can now take airplanes the size of a small rover to other planets because it doesn't have wings. But it needs some kind of weight limit (optional). I think six parachutes being able to hold a huge plane is bit OP.

I remember when service bays became a thing, and everyone started making spacecraft where - to save weight - there was no crew cabin, and the Kerbal was in a seat inside a bay.
Now you can shed not just the weight of the capsule, but the weight of the wings, too. I'm eagerly awaiting the first soft-wing SSTO.

Jebediah Kerman's Flying Squad: Express Badass Training. Speaking of which, why don't we try this IRL? Jetpacks failed to launch because they lack the stability control surfaces provide. This is basically like a backpack-mounted ultra-ultralight aircraft, powered by a tiny jet engine.
