    I wanted to thank you for your video and saving me $1000.00...my ML 320 was doing the "crazy" Erving and not knowing gear it was end! I would pull over...turn it off and restart it and it was fine!! This weekend, that trick stopped working....I stopped at a international garage and was told I needed a new electronic transmission plate....I had a new one put on last year, I didn't think this could be the same problem again. Well, I parked it and try to decide if this was worth getting fixed again.....I decided to try your solution....it worked😊😊😊 I took your advice and drove out on some rural roads to setting to set my driving style. I was successful, but I wasn't convinced this was real!! It felt very powerful"... I did the same thing today out on the rural roads, it felt right and didn't act up on me by over revving and making pull over"... I decided to try the freeway home....I did everything you said by shifting from 1st to 5th..Walla!! IT WORKED GREAT!! Zero to 70 mph...smooth, not a jitter....I would never try this before without having to pray I didn't have to stop and restart it!!
    Thanks for the video😀😀😀
    Greg

    fupa, you simply are the man, thank you so much. Our family have been facing some economical problems, we had our break w202 c200t car (our only car) doing nothing on a parking for 6 months, because we couldn't afford the change of the front suspension arm bushings. So I buyed the remplacement, some tools and got some other borrowed and I changed it by myself (scared as s**t because spring compressor... lol), got the thumbs up at the check (spanish ITV) and now it rides beautifully!. Thank you really much!.

      This is encouraging to read although I wouldn't dare to undertake something like that myself. Heck, I don't even dare to change the spark plugs myself. I've done this numerous times with different cars. But these are simple tasks with those cars - just pull out the cable and unscrew the plugs. Just need to make sure the right cable goes to the right cylinder (had bungled this once). But the Merc's plug cables are different, coil on top and all. Plus having to dismantle the air intake hose etc. first. Yes, I will probably be able "to take off" but I'm worried about putting everything back again:-)

    Works for early 722.9 transmissions as well . Thought my tranny was slipping on my 2007 cls550 . Wouldn’t pass 3k rpm and struggled to go over 65 mph . After watching the video my car is driving even better than before

    Thank you yet again for this very useful tip. Mine is a W210 E200 (punitive road tax here in Malaysia once the c.c. exceeds 2,400) but the tip should work because it has a 722.6 transmission too. I haven't tried it yet but I know I can take your word for it based on the other tips I've seen here.
    You have given the answer to something which has been bugging me for a few months i.e. the gear change being rather hesitant and inconsistent at times. There were times in the past when it was so silky smooth. Among the cars I've driven, this one has the smoothest transmission of all. I believe I was the one who had messed up the gear change memory with my "grandfather, light-footed" driving while my wife is much more aggressive. The system must have gotten confused. I'm going to go for power - if the fuel consumption goes up too much, I'll just reset it again.

    • @MatCendana
      @MatCendana 10 лет назад

      Update to the previous comment: I wrote down the procedure as shown on the video a few days ago. Yes, it works, and very well too! :-) I've set it to "Power" and the car feels significantly better with smoother and surer gear shifts.
      There's an unexpected result after resetting the automatic transmission: fuel consumption has actually improved! Now how could this have come about when the gear shifts come later than previously?? I went on a 400 km trip two days ago, and the route was mostly on an expressway which does help with fuel consumption. But I had also driven along suburban and city roads with the last fuel refill. One explanation: the new settings help to bring about more efficiency.
      Your tip here: I'd vote it as the "Best Bang for the Buck" award. And to think that such an improvement could be had by just following some simple instructions and not having to buy or pay for anything. Great stuff, dude!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 лет назад +1

      Mat Cendana
      possibly fuel consumption is better because you get better performance for less throttle. When you wanted to accelerate before ,you had to really stomp on the gas,so it actually used a wider throttle opening to get the same performance

  • @gotglasses
    @gotglasses 9 лет назад

    That actually works! Car shifts crisply and the kick down passing gear does not hesitate. But a couple of weeks in NYC traffic messes it up again. This is so easy this way it is worth doing frequently - like before a race. If you use manual shifting and turn off the ASR it is not a problem anyway. Chrysler uses the same tranny on the Hemi without all the electronic confusion and it is better that way.

    Fupabox: My '99 W140 3.3 ( S320) was revving too high and then suddenly thump-shifting from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th.
    It is generous guys like you that make owning these great cars a viable proposition. First time didn't work because I think I did it bass-akwards and depressed gas pedal before I turned the ignition - so after a few miles I pulled over and did it again and it worked like a charm.
    You are my New Best Freind!
    Thanks so much Bud!

      Update: Although your method helped for a while, things quickly worsened. In my case, the transmission conductor plate had a thumbnail-size hole in the casing! This being my first Mercedes, I just kept hoping that things would get better until it went into 3rd gear limp mode, and I had no choice but to 'bring it in.' That said and repaired, I still have the car, which shifts seamlessly and is like new again!

    Hey. Can I ask something? I am looking to purchased a used s500 2005. The car has no transmission fluid due to a leak. The price is reasonable. Can I get your take on it? Often I read it will be the electrical connector that is leaking. I had a C280 leak from the output shaft seal. Any tips in how I can determine if the leak is worth taking a chance on?

      +Gabriel Lourens This won't work on cars before 1997 The older 4 speed you have to push down hard to downshift...there is a modulator valve on the side of the transmission that you adjust... I'll put links to the procedures

    Yeah it works properly. I still use the car I go to the gym which is only about a mile down the street, and grocery shopping locally around my neighborhood. It parks, reverses well. To be honest I really don't know about engines and trans other than changing oils and brakes. I read your conversations here and I

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  11 лет назад

      it depends on whether you are doing a flush or just a drain and refill...the 722.6 is VERY picky when it comes to proper fluid level..too much or too little can cause major problems...you need to check that the fluid level is correct at the correct temperature with the dipstick tool...if the level is correct ,drain and measure the amount that came out.. replace the exact same amount and recheck level at operating temperature again

    You are lucky it did not get you stranded yet. My 2000 E55 had a similar problem, happened at home. New Shift Module (the thing in the middle with the shifter) fixed the problem (also, shifter bushing below the floor was bad). Not difficult if you are half-way mechanically inclined... The check engine light would not come on due to this problem, btw.

    Can you help me please, I have a w211 270cdi 2004, the summer when the warmer weather changing speeds normally, but when winter comes, when first starting in the morning, while cold the first few minutes of a lot of difficult changes speeds, noisy, and feel shock when shifting gears, and after a few minutes when it warms up all ok, yet still have not tried the reset that you clearly do not know whether it would help, do you have any idea what could be the problem. Thank you ...

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 лет назад

      I have done some checking and the 7g tronic in your car should have the same reset procedure as outlined in this video.. it may help smooth the shifting when cold... The transmission is designed to rev higher and not shift as early when cold ,to help speed up the fluid warming up to operating temperature...it is also necessary to put more pressure (higher revs) in order to circulate cold fluid which is thicker..this is programmed into the transmission to prevent damage...the shifts should be a bit harsher when cold ,but not extremely harsh...when cold you should always accelerate very slowly when the car is really cold in the winter time..for the first minute or 2...once it warms up a bit you can drive more agressively

    hey, I did this on my 97s320, when I pressed my foot to the gas pedal I heard some sound, I think its the gear resetting? but after more than 15 seconds I still heard that sound, I just turn the key to 1st position and wait 3 minutes. I will test it out for a drive tomorrow, I just want to ask if should I do it again and wait until the sounds stop? or just drive it tomorrow? and thanks.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 лет назад

      there should be an audible click from the button under the pedal that signals the car to downshift..there may also be a slight noise from the electronic throttle actuator...turn the key to the second position (not starting) then put the throttle pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there at least 15 seconds..turn off the key and then release the gas pedal and wait 3 minutes..then start and drive

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  11 лет назад +1

      a few things could be wrong, but essentially the computer has determined that there is a malfunction and isn't allowing the car to come out of 1st "limp home" mode.. the check engine light should be on and you will need the codes read to figure out what the problem is..there are a few minor fairly inexpensive things it could be IE. aux/back up battery, low fluid level, electrical connectors etc.
      It's almost impossible to know for sure...hopefully nothing major.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 лет назад

      no.. they can be in any gear... 40 is also just a benchmark number to ensure you driving style is more or less saved

    • @talveerguram7178
      @talveerguram7178 8 лет назад

      Oh I see thanks for the prompt response. Just a couple more Q's following that:
      - So I can put it in to manual transmission or D1,D2 etc.. and then shift up at 2,500 rpm.
      - Does it need to get used to the driving style in each gear or will the first 4 gears be enough?
      - And does it take into account shifting down or only up shifts?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 лет назад

      Talveer Guram good questions...I honestly don't know the answers to those.. you can do the reset as many times as you like with no danger of harming the car, so you can test whether not using "d" would make a difference..I don't think downshifting matters, but the faster you release the gas pedal when slowing down, the more likely the car will hold the gear and not upshift when slowing down. If you release the gas pedal slowly when coming to a corner, the car will shift to a higher gear to coast..if you release the pedal quickly it will hold a lower gear and use engine braking in a corner.

      +Edesio Mandelli Try Step on brake and turn steering wheel to take off any stress on lock. The light panel part connected to the shifter has a switch in it for park. That may be it too. It is a pain to change out - I did it a couple of years ago. May be cheaper to get a used good shifter box assembly from a wrecking yard, maybe Ebay.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  6 лет назад

      check the fluid level, that is what generally causes shifting issues.. Then reset the transmission
      1. turn ignition to position 2 without starting
      2. press throttle pedal all the way to the floor and hold for 15-20 seconds
      3. turn key off,but don't remove key
      4. release throttle pedal and wait 3 minutes without turning on anything in the car or opening the door
      5. start car and drive normally..the car will adapt to your driving style and throttle pressure

    hi and thanks for the tutorial!!
    i got some questions..
    first of all does it affect both comfort and sport modes? and if yes how do i programm each mode differently so i can have a mode for performance and a mode for fuel economy?
    and finally how often is it good for the car to reset it?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 лет назад

      +Xenophon Papadopoulos it just rests the baseline ,,like wiping the cache on your computer..or resetting your trip computer in your car. There isn't a separate way to reset it for sport and or comfort. since the 722.6 transmission only has a winter/wet and standard mode. You could do the rest every day with no issue

    Hi. Great video.
    Just one question.
    After I finish with transmission reset and want to have good fuel economy, so I drive slowly for the first 40 shifts.
    After all that, will this effect on kick down power or the down shifts when I need those for fast accelerations?
    Thanks

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 лет назад +2

      Yes driving slowly for the first 40 shifts or so , will set the transmission to upshift earlier to higher gears ..No it won't have an effect on kickdowns ... I made a quick video on the 722.6 transmission ruclips.net/video/sjp-rAQUW-Y/видео.html
      The 722.6 is a pretty smart transmission for its time... The quicker you press on the gas ,the quicker it will downshift to accelerate...if you lift off the gas quickly, it will hold the gear it is in (as long as it is not in the top gear ).. It is fairly odd to get used to once you discover this little trick. It is hardly mentioned in owners manuals , but is referred to as "fast on..fast off" . If you press the pedal slowly in top gear to accelerate it will wait to drop a gear, if you press the same amount, but quickly..it will drop 2 gears. Experiment with it a bit and you will get the hang of it. I think it is rarely mentioned because it's a bit odd to get used to. I believe it is the cause of people saying the transmission lurches sometimes. If you test it out, let me know what you think.

    I have an 02 c240 an everything works fine but i cant take the key out an it wont pass N it drives fine but cant reverse or park and the key wont come out, i know its most likely the linkage but im having a hard time locating it an fixing the problem any help would be great

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 лет назад

      Reynol Garza it sounds like the linkage bushing is toast...you can do it from under the car..look staright up under the shifter from under the car and you will see the linkage...if you would rather do it from inside, there is some extra work, but it doesn't require going under the car...watch the video in the link I will add...once the console is off (make sure ignition is turned off) remove the 4 bolts holding the shifter assembly onto the transmission tunnel, and lift it up...you will see the linkage and where it attaches to the shifter assembly, and can easily replace it from inside the car..good opportunity to clean all the years of junk from under the console ruclips.net/video/M4ps8sHYQ3A/видео.html

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 лет назад

      William Z There is a cooling fan relay in the relay box behind the fuse panel..it is the K9 relay ..closest to the front of the car on the left side of the relay box. The relay you have swapped is the condenser fan relay, so that should be the only 2 for the fans..have you checked the coolant sensor for the fan..it is different than the sensor for the gauge and it may be sending a false signal to the computer to turn the fan on. you do have to clear the code to get it to function properly...Royals are who I bet on with a Giants fan at work, so fingers crossed :P

      After two days I see a little difference, the transmission drive and shift better. Probably the problem was caused by my father who has never before drove automatic, or computer automatic, and he still don't understand "fast on, fast off" cos it's totally the opposite to the classic manual transmission.

    Thank you for another great informative video .
    The transmission in my 1995 SL320 works perfectly going forward while driving but doesn't want to take reverse. I can leave it in reverse and gently press the gas and the engine revs like it's in neutral and after about 20 or 30 seconds , the transmission will then begin to work in reverse.
    Can the issue be the conductor plate ?
    Also , what years of Mercedes is the transmission compatible with the 1995 SL320 ? Is the 1995 SL500 compatible and / or the 1996 , 1997 SL320 or SL500 ?
    Any information is greatly appreciated.

      Not sure where you are located , but here there is something called "reasonable expectation of durability" meaning that a replacement part from a dealership , should be reasonably expected to last as long as the new part warranted for.. So if the original new car warranty on the tranny was 100k miles.. the dealer replacement should last that long as well

    In winter , if temperature down to around f 15.. the transmission won't shift.. what is the problem ?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 лет назад +5

      if it just revs high when cold but then shifts,nothing at all..it is doing what it is supposed to do to protect itself...thicker cold oil needs higher revs to keep it pressurized and flowing through the valve bodies, so it will remain in lower gears longer to keep revs high... after a minute or so as the fluid warms ,it will shift sooner at lower revs and gradually become normal... if it won't shift at all when cold and just goes to redline and stays there, then the possible problems are.. bad fluid/ low fluid, damaged valve bodies , oil contaminated transmission wire harness.. try the reset first and then check fluid level... then there is a round electrical plug that goes into the front of the transmission.. it unbolts from the front of the plug and you can see if it has fluid inside.. if it does it , then the seal is bad ..it can be replaced for around $20
