You know Shizuka is feeling good when she says “It’s so freaking good”. Being able to host and not skip a beat on these drinking episodes is example of a true professional.
I've added some beer spots to my saved Maps locations, thanks! The last bar definitely has the best and most authentic pour in my opinion. Fast and naturally foamed straight on the beer dripping mat, that's how I like it! Depending on your preference I'd say use thin edged glass for a crisp experience and thicker round edged glass for the smoother entry.
Gosh, I really, really enjoyed this segment of Japan by Food, love to know the unique beer culture in Japan. Gosh, I hope one day soon I get to discover and enjoy the unique beer culture of Japan!! Thank you and great work, Shizuka and Kai.
Love you guys! Shizuka you’re a master at being a host!! I know it’s not the focus of the channel but man a mini series on things to do in Tokyo would be sooo awesome! Could call it Japan by Foot 😉
I heard a theory once that the fluffy head may be due to the CO2/Nitro mix theyre using and so that's probably why you'll almost never see a head like that in the US where CO2 % used is likely higher. Also the real Matsuo pour looked nothing like that one.
The "shot" glass you mentioned is a typical beer glass for Kölsch beer. They call it ein Stage (a pole or a rod). All the glasses have a 0.2l mark to make sure the foam does not start below that mark, making sure the customer gets 0.2 liters of beer and not too much foam. You mentioned it looks like a beaker. Other parts of germany deride this type of glass as test tubes. They say Kölners can only drink small amount off beer at a time
reminds me of one of the first videos I saw of Shizuka at a street food area when they poured her cup to the top and I guess the preferred method was to bend down to sip it, gonna go look for that one, these locations look like so much fun though, I do love smooth beer and cutlets
Shizuka was right in her element at the dry dock 🍻and i noticed she had a great navy themed dress worn as well 👗💝💗🍺 awesome episode japan by food team.
This was so interesting to watch (and learn about Japanese Beer Foam?? Who knew?)....also, Girl Friend, at about 21.30 I realized you are properly buzzed! Kanpai!
Wow, this segment about Japanese beer was really cool and interesting Shizuka! I've never ever heard about the bartender dunking the beer glass into a ice cold water. Man, I want to have a Japanese beer now! Kanpai!🍻
Its interesting the different pouring methods in Japan with plenty of foam. If you poured a beer in Australia with that much foam the drinkers would be yelling and screaming. Australian like our beer glass to be quite full with only about a quarter of an inch of foam on top, we like to get our moneys worth…lol.
Great to see Kai again! I'm, unfortunately, allergic to beer so I'd be ordering other cocktails and really enjoying the small plates. What fun beer hop!
Great video Shizuka and Kai! Did you know menchi was introduced by the Portuguese many many years ago when Japan first opened its borders? The name just means "mince" haha!
Someone I know recently combined Maple Syrup & buttered Popcorn thinking it would taste like caramel popcorn. It didn’t and they don’t recommend anyone else do it either.
Thank you for posting this. I needed something to cheer me up since I got food poisoning last night and I've been spending my birthday today in bed because I feel like garbage
Intresting video about beer foam. Shizuka is a great host. But he background music makes it difficult to hear what they are saying. Please turn it down. I'm always learning something new watching this channel, Thank you
Gotta say, as an Australian beer nerd drinking NEIPAs - in Japan, even low cost every day beers tasted great at Matsuyas because of the secondary foam tap pull that delivered the creamy head. Would love to see the technology adopted here!
This is why I love Japanese people. They are so worldly. Mr. Sato went all the way to the Czech Republic just to learn the best beer pouring technique. You'll be lucky to be served simple cold beer, here in Canada. It's almost always warm. 🤢
@@aznzensation that's the thing. We Canadians, as a whole, are satisfied with just "semi decent". We don't demand or strive for "great" or "the best we can do it/make it", which is why our products, services, and general infrastructure are so mediocre.
There is a Japanese-style lager that’s featured at my local micro-brewery called “Gaijin Dream.” It’s terribly well-balanced, with just a hint of something citrus at the back-end. If you ever find yourself in Oregon, I’ll buy the first round. 🍻🇯🇵🙇♂️
That Gun Free Zone sign threw me off 😂 seeing how it's banned for 99% of Japan population. That sign is as effective as it is in the US.....😂 no effect but helps you FEEL safe.
Well that is normal for us here in Europe; it is vital for most lager and wheat beers; must have a decent head as it is part of the flavour when drinking. I assume Japan realises this as their brewing is heavily influenced by European traditions.
Learned so much by being a part of this, thank you Shizuka for having me back! 🍻
Thanks for drinking with me, Kai!! 😆🙌🏼
I’m at Dry Dock because of this video. They mentioned that I’m the first customer that mentioned the video. First beer is absolutely delicious!
You know Shizuka is feeling good when she says “It’s so freaking good”.

Aww thank you!! It is tough to keep together toward the end of these drinking videos though for sure! 😂🤣
LOVE your beer content! The visuals on this were stunning.
Much appreciated!
The Czech milk pour is actually meant to be drunk bottoms up in one go! Loved watching this video. I wanna see more beer education trips in Japan
it's funny watching this girl get more and more drunk haha
These drinking videos are always a struggle by the end 😂😂😂
well shizuka is a bonafide beer connoisseur at this point. I now have FOAMO, time to hit the bar and get faded. You are a bad influence shizzy 😝
Please join next time!
I've added some beer spots to my saved Maps locations, thanks!

The discipline of Japan and their way to optimise everithing they are doing is just affascinating for me.
Japan should rule the world!
As a beer enjoyer thanks for this episode also 11:14 that has to be the best head I’ve seen on a beer!! And Matsuo’s story was amazing.
You're not much of a beer enjoyer if you enjoy seeing a glass served 60% full with a bunch of fucking bubbles on top
I heard a theory once that the fluffy head may be due to the CO2/Nitro mix theyre using and so that's probably why you'll almost never see a head like that in the US where CO2 % used is likely higher. Also the real Matsuo pour looked nothing like that one.

We are glad to hear that!
My bucket list of beer for next trip!, thanks Shizuka....amazing episode......keep doing more about beer in Japan...love it and cheers from Thailand!🍻
Best episode ever! They totally over did it and passed out just after the outro lol.
You got us!
Loved seeing the beer going in the ice bucket!!!!
That was a FOAM vid guys!!!! 🍺🍻👍🏻
Thank you! We had a lot of foam!
so much foam ;) always great to see Shizuka enjoy describe her experiences. Good to see a new face in Kai as well.
He was in our Anime Your Name Video! Check it out to see more of him:)

i drink beer out of the bottle, i didn't know there was so much more into the pour. impressive
There isn't it's just made up fancy bs to sell foam instead of actual beer.
Why did I only discover this channel immediately after I returned from Japan?! I want to try the smooth AF beer too!! 😩
I hope you at least drank a bunch of Saki ?
How did you not drink the beer ?
@@1deadhead Oh, believe me, I drank the beer. But now I want to try the specific ones/pour methods featured in this video!
@@Tangerined Good, me to. I’m in the North of Japan now and will be in Tokyo beginning of December. So, you know I’ll be getting some foam 🙃

@@JapanbyFood I will be in Japan in October this year and look forward to having a few beers during my travels.
Glas full of foam? In germany you will be arrreted by police instant 😂 Great video, thx beerlover ❤❤❤ from Germany ❤❤❤
I loved this! Someday ... I can't wait to be there and to try a few of these.
Please do!
Another example of Japanese excellence! They all looked like great places to eat and have a cold one.😋
Please visit!
Shizuka got really high and happy from the beer!
Today I learned a lot of foaming techniques! Seriously foams!
Gonna try them all this week
Let us know how you like it!
If I ever make it to Tokyo, I’ll give these bars a try. Looks great.
Please do!
definitely a place to go when i travel to Japan
hiii 飛常多謝 thank you so much. I am working and love food and drink life.. you open my eyes once again...I learn and open my mind again..
Mliko pours are divine
Shizuka's great beauty knowns no bounds
It ain't Monday yet, if I haven't seen shizuka chan smile 😊
will drop the name!
Japan produces quality beer & also whiskey.
Greetings from Hamburg Lohbrügge, Deutschland.

wow very interesting experience friend
Yes, thank you!
Awesome sauce!
Shizuka is now an expert on beer
She could teach Canadian brewers a thing or two
It would be a blast to get a buzz 🐝 with Shizuka. 🍺🍺🍺

How great! Thanks for telling us!
Thanks to Asahi for sponsoring these beer videos….
We could not be more grateful:P
I’ve been unknowingly doing a matsuo pour at my restaurant this whole time
How cool!
Gotta love the drinking content here 😄
Hehe, a lot of drinking lately!
What is the reason for dunking? Doesnt make sense when its already cold
My armchair analysis thinks it’s to sustain coldness a little or to clean the glass of all the foam that just poured out.
@@urbanimgstudio4104 still doesn't make sense at all
It’s to maintain a very specific crisp temperature that affects the consistency of the foam!
Shizuka: foam tastes good with beer
It really does, though:D
This was one of the best episodes 🍺
Congratulations 🎉
I will be visiting all 3 places❤
Drinking beer, this video topic must have been Shizuka idea. 😁
There is one thing you have got to learn about our movement. Three people are better than no people.

21:30 man is in heaven
Like the dunk is going to change then temp of the beer lmfao these gaijin so happy
Good channel. 👍❤️
Thanks for visiting!
Been said before , but too much foam in UK , drinkers will not be happy 😂.
What a great bar crawl!
Japanese have great passion 😊
happy birthday shizuka!
Aww thank you!! 🥰❤️

this is new for me, awesome!
Thx but I'd rather drink beer instead of foam... that's kind of like choosing your coffee by the added type of milk instead of the roast.
Tasty foam!
Yes it was!
Dope.
Thank you!
Who else was drinking beer and watching this?
The spout shouldn't be touching the liquid...
I would beer foam it so good!!! 😍😊😅🍻🍺

It took him 20 years of apprenticeship of pouring to perfect his craft.
why is there the second host? I don't think that adds anything to the format.
It’s no fun to drink alone! 😆
He was 100% into fasting with her until he understood that meant he couldn't eat.

I saw a cooking video on here youtube earlier today and the guy used sake to drain the blood of a turtle. I don't think you would do that in beer. tho
