Mine is on order, replacing my a7Riv. I’m keeping my a9ii for high ISO. I’m a wildlife photographer and live in Florida, thus shoot birds often. Thanks for your great tutorials.
Hi Michael, probably I will do the same...😉 My A1 will be in my hands at the end of February here in Germany and I will see how often I will use my A7RIV and A9II in the future...but my first idea is to sell my A7RIV if the dynamic range on the A1 will be same as on my A7RIV...🙋♂️
So, I have started the switch from Canon to Sony. Used a 1Dx Mark 2 and 5d mark 4. Now have added a Sony a7r4 and a92. One camera for sports, one for everything else. Now thinking about making the complete switch to sony. My issue with Sony has been the banding on the a7r4 when using the silent shutter under led lights. You must be very careful when shooting in low light with led lighting (such as at concerts and various venues) to make sure your photos aren't showing banding. Not an issue with the A9, but the resolution is too low. Now, with the A1 using the a9 technology that virtually eliminates the banding, it may be time to do the switch fully. Hate to sell the Canon stuff, seems like I'm taking quite a financial hit. I have not used the newer mirrorless canon cameras, I was already testing the sony models when the canon versions came out. I am relatively happy with the sony eye tracking focusing. It is not perfect, but it is really good. I have found the a9 is better than the a7r4 at that. I am also really comfortable with the Canon gear. Switching is expensive and unsettling, which makes me nervous. Good luck with whatever decision you make. It is only money, and while that must always be a factor, I just feel Sony is committed to pushing the envelope and so far has produced great products.
Think about it this way. Sooner or later Canon L lenses and DSLR bodies will no longer be produced. The future is Mirrorless. I sold all my old Sony FF A-mount gear and got myself an e-mount kit. I have no regrets. Hope you will come to a conclusion.
When I worked at The National Geographic Society in the PhotoLab side we figured out that to capture all the information from a 35mm Transparency we had to scan the image at 10mb. This process was done on a High End Drum Scanner and the scan took 18 minutes. This camera at 50 mp ,producing a 150mb file instantly and at the rate it does is absolutely amazing. So far I haven't heard anyone address the post shooting processing side. One is going to have some fairly robust computing power and storage capacity to maintain all those RAW files.
Wayne Lytton. You make a good point, but since Sony released the A7R4 at 61MP, I think we are now used to the idea so it's less talked about. Prior to purchasing my A7R4 I had to factor in the cost of a new PC. I really did need to make the upgrade, as my old PC was struggling to process 24MP files and would often freeze. I spec'd an new one up and had it built by a local company - Ginger6. It cost about £1100, which I felt was a bargain, but it still has to be factored in, as you quite rightly point out.
I have the A7Slll, A7RlV and A9 and having the same thoughts as you. There is big advantage in having one camera, but also disadvantages if it break down, or you by accident drop etc. A big disappointment is that Sony didn't put the Flip Out screen on the A1, same as on the A7S lll
@@typorickfoto I work as a professional photographer and honestly I hate the flip screen!, in reality when Cannon came with the 5D the intention was a professional stills camera with video capabilities, the a1 still that and my collegues are very happy with the decision including wedding photographers and Sony knows that
What do you think of continuing to make videos with the Sony a7s3 and instead of the Sony a1 using a Canon R5 with your existing EF lenses and gradually buying one or the other fantastic RF lenses? Except for the high speed flash in continuous mode, I hardly see any advantage! And what about using the new Canon Flashlight?
Its a possibility, but the problem is still 2 sets of lenses and other accessories and if I went R5, I'd want to upgrade the lenses too eventually. Im not dismissing that, I just wish the video was more reliable on the R5
I am exactly in the same space. I have been to and through on buying the Canon R5 as my full frame hybrid as I have a couple of EF L lenses that I truly love and have no need or desire to replace. However, the technical advancements (especially on the stills side) on the A1 are impossible to ignore. I have preordered, I think the only reason I would not complete the order in March is if Canon announced the “ R1” in that same timeframe or if I decided that the R5 now seems like a bargain! 😉🙏🏾
The cooldown on the video is a dealbreaker for me on the R for video. I can't imagine a celebrity client understanding that we have to interrupt the shoot so the camera cools down, or missing a great moment.
I totally agree, that is why I cancelled my preorder and have been looking for an alternative ever since. I was not prepared to invest in Sony lenses just for the A7sIII because I wanted a true hybrid, however, now there is no excuse to take the plunge (funds permitting)!!😂🙏🏾
Look carefully for the specs because there are quite a bit of caveats even though specs are amazing in general. Especially in flash sync, flash sync with E-shutter is 1/200 in fx mode(1/250 in dx mode). With mech shutter it can achieve 1/400 sec but probably only when the flash is on camera......
I'm not a pro, but have Sony A7iii and Canon 5D2. I love the larger size of the Canon but is a bit big. The Sony is a bit small and cramped. The images from the Sony with my Contax Zeiss N series zooms are astonishing. The video is gorgeous. The low light is Marvelous. The Sony infrastructure system is beyond reproach you name it, they have it. Sony is committed to make the best possible, they have the resources and people to make it future proof. I like that. They are here to stay. huge investment. Their lenses are now world class. that spells confidence. The people pictures from the Canon are natural and warm. It is large, but feels comfortable so I have often taken both. That's a lot of gear. Maybe the kiss formula should apply. Keep it simple. Stick with one brand and run with it. Do your job well .
I have the same situation as you do, as I bought sony a7s3 when I just realized I should have had sony alpha 1 instead. So I would think to sell my a7s3 and buy A1 or buy sony a7r4 and keep a7s3 so I have 2 sony camera, what do you think?
I used to be Canon and have made the full switch to Sony 2 years ago, I have an A7iii and an A7Riv and have changed all lenses to GM 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm all f2.8 and I have a G 200-600mm. 2 bodies and four lenses in one backpack. I loved my Canons when I had them and I still have full respect for the Canon range, especially the colour science, however, the sensor performance of the Sony bodies is stunning, my A7iii can shoot 51600ISO and you can just about get away with it. Plus the dynamic range is incredible, no more pink banding when you push the shadows. Anyway, best of luck whichever way you choose to go, I will be very interested in how you get on with the Sony A1 should you get it. Big fan of your channel, best regards Jamie
I would love the A1, good think it doesn't have a flippy screen that is holding me back. lol but I am eyeballing the a7s3. would like little better MP for photos though, maybe something in the middle.
As a Sony shooter I find it really annoying that the sensor is always exposed when changing a lens. This results in a lot of dust on the sensor. I have to use a rocket blower when changing the lens in order to have as minimum dust as possible. I have to clean/swab the sensor on a regular basis. That's why I always carry 2 cameras for my reporting shoots (16-35mm GM / 24-70 GM) to avoid switching lenses in case of carrying a single camera. Canon has solved this issue rather simple. The have a mechanism in their R5 implemented that covers the sensor when taking of the lens. I have no idea why Sony don't implement this. Also I don't understand why Sony don't produce one or two tilt-shift lenses for E-mount. But that is another story... You have to decide yourself if you stay with Canon. I probably will purchase the A1 and keep my RIV and sell the A9 for compensation for the price of the A1. After all it is not about the gear. But it can help make life a bit easier. Good luck
Can't imagine the complexity (and expense) of managing two systems (Sony/Canon). I went with Sony with the original a7. It was tough going for a while, but it has turned out to be great decision. Don't think you would regret making the switch to an All-Sony workflow.
* Electronic shutter stops at 1/200. It's 1/400 mechanical full frame. Still, impressive and exciting potential for the future. 1/500, 1/1000? ...where does the electronic shutter flash sync top out in a few years? That's leaf shutter territory. Way cool.
I am not a pro so I don't do commercial work. I currently have a Sony A9 for my birding and I have a Nikon Z7 for my 'landscape' work. I have been a Nikon user since the D800 and before that I was a Canon user since the A1 film camera in the 70's. I am going to sell all my Nikon gear and I am buying the Sony A1. Although sometimes it is nice having 2 bodies, sometimes I prefer to have only 1 and I want to be able to have the best for all things I shoot. Mostly nowadays I shoot birds & BIF but I also do a lot of different things; landscapes, macro's, panos, a bit of street/architecture etc. I also do a little bit of video but not much but I like the idea of having all the options available should I want to use them. I think having just one brand of camera does make it easier so you have less equipment especially IMO for someone like you. You would want maybe a backup camera and having 2 brands just means carrying more lenses, batteries, etc. Buy the A1 (I know, you probably have your order in already ;) )
Hi Collin, Jose from Puerto RIco. If it's the tool you need, go for it man! Having said that, Canon will come with their R1 so I can't tell you to be patient because you're the only one who knows your own particular situation. This Sony rig looks extremely impressive and it looks like they threw in the kitchen sink aiming at the R1. It'll be painful to have buyers remorse if Canon comes out with something spectacular considering they're on a roll now dishing out tremendous gear. Someone definitely poked the sleeping giant.
i have been very long a blind canon fanboy... now i have more than just one system.... and tbh... im selling this week everything else but sony.... the A1 is the camera i personally have been waiting for since im a child! ... this new sensor has been under development for over 9 years now... for me it is important to support those companies who are pushing the inudstry forward... not those who wanted to sell us one additional button every other year and sell it as a new camera... you know what i mean. ! look at the innovations in camera bodies since sony entered the Game ... thats what i'm willing to pay for... and it pays off... From IBIS to EYE AF ... etc. Just my two cents. now it is easy for other brands to copycat algorithms and invest more in the marketing because they had no development costs (at least not in this dimensions as sony had) however... they cant copy sonys hardware... theyre 7 years ahead in technology...
The R5 ibis is better btw and the initial reviews show that the A1 af has caught up with the R5 which is better than the A9II. It's a big price hike over all the other Sony and Canon bodies and 80% of photographers will never use anywhere near the capabilities of the A1 or R5 for that matter. Sony needed a camera to take on the R5. The A1 misses the mark price wise although technically it sounds like a very good camera.
@@stevemurnan1702 hmmm Some Parts i agree with you... But others i can't confirm. Im deep into that industry... And would really like to know how people measured that speed beyond the A9II... Lets talk about it.
I'm primarily a Nikon shooter so I have no horse in this Canon/Sony race. This is definitely a tough call for sure, if what you have is working then you could argue that if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. No doubt the A1 is mighty impressive, it's currently as close as a do it all camera that you can get....at a price. You are already happy with your A7SIII so the ergonomics argument is moot ( many will denounce Sony on that basis alone ). It's very hard and expensive to ride two systems however, it makes financial sense to stick to one primary system. Whilst $6500 isn't pocket change by any standard it's relatively cheap for what the A1 potentially gives. Let's not forget that lenses make the biggest cost of a system overall, and you are already invested in Sony, it's not like you are looking at the A1 as a full on Canon only shooter starting from scratch. What would I do? Honestly, the A1 is a compelling enough camera to justify dumping all your Canon DSLR kit and going full on Sony mirrorless. If there is perhaps one reason you shouldn't do this it's the likely possibility of Canon releasing a mirrorless equivalent to their current 1DXmkIII that matches or exceeds what the A1 offers. You would effectively be starting with a brand new system because you'd need to invest in RF lenses too ( and whilst amazing they ain't cheap ). Canon have made great strides recently but I don't see them trouncing Sony's sensor tech any time soon. Given the Canon gear you own already along with the Sony A7RIV, trading them in should make an A1 purchase relatively wallet friendly. A Sony A1 plus A7SIII and a bunch of lenses should have you covered for any type of work you need to do....go for it Colin 👍
I think it would be the A1. I also love all of the A1 specs. Can to you talk more about the A1 lens and other compatible lens can be used with the A1? Thanks
I dropped Canon 1D MkIV for Sony A9. The reason being Canon stopped supporting 1D MKIV and brought out the 1DX then 1DX MKII. I bought the metabones adapter for the Sony A9 and use my Canon lenses. I understand your professional situation re the Sony A1 you explain it very well in your video. We can never predict how long these flagship camera's will be around eg A9 replaced by A9II, it is interesting no mention for the trade in value for A9 only A9 ii. How long will Sony A1 be before it's successor irons out glitches and modifies. We are talking serious money for a camera body. You are a professional you can justify such sums, along with the new memory cards, and the latest lenses: which will add performance. I am a retired hobbyist.
I think for your work the sony A1 will really work. Its much easier to just carry 1 camera & lenses for 1 system. The sony a7s3 can be optional. And you will also get excellent super35 from the a1 so that way you will get different focal length views. For concerts the new electronic shutter wll also be better & you have the benefit of more res and speed. Also with the same system you can get different angles of view from bth cameras . The lens system for sony is very advanced now and there are all kinds of options from native to 3rd party.
Do it. You won’t regret it (after you set up all the custom buttons) so you don’t have to dive into the menus often. I sold all my Canon and got an a9 and a7r iv. Now selling them and getting the a1. It’s the ultimate best of both worlds camera.
Rent of borrow a A1 body and try it out according to your level of tests as jumping on new tools before testing it out can disrupt your well working workflow and be annoying!
@@photoshopcafe If there is a good thing about being stuck at home thanks to a virus it would be that you have time to test out new gear and you should have some influence with people so that you can get access to various gear!
Just 1, the absolutely right moment the club hits the ball, the ball touched the endzone, the bat connects with the ball, the fielder leaps up and it just connects with the glove, the surfer pops out the top of the wave, the tires crease on the dragster... I think you get my point. The difference between a great photo and an award-winning photo is 1/100th of a second
@@photoshopcafe Thanks for the reply. I shoot with a Canon R5 and I achieve this shooting sports at 20 fps. Not sure I need the 30fps, especially at almost twice the cost.
Sony’s offers super 35 mode, and with the a1 you get a 1.5 crop at 21 megapixels. From what I have been told, Canon dose not. That’s a big deal for me, it pretty much doubles the lens you have on you!
A used A6000 (around $300 or so) with a used macro lens. The A6300 is a bit more expensive but, the A6000 should be fine for just macro work... About the least expensive macro with auto focus is the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro (at a bit over $200) but, there are many auto and manual focus lenses as low as the 7-Artisans 60mm Macro for $159 new from B&H in NYC...
Already Pre Ordered it as well, I shoot kinda the same stuff but more on the BTS / Stills motion picture movie side of things. Lots of Celebrities / action at times as well and I just need one main reliable efficient high quality camera. I really would like two lol of these but i just bought the FX6 a month ago and i'm done for a minute lol. great video and keep up the hard work
Since you can easily sell the Canon gear right now and that ability will diminish with time because there will be fewer and fewer DSLR shooters I would definitely go for the A1. Given your work it makes sense. I am an event shooter and anything that makes it so I don't have to think more helps me be present for the client. I shot with Canon and Sony for about 8 months before I finally did the full switch. I am a better photographer when I am not juggling two systems.
And also there is a huge advantage in using Sony gear, the other clients prefers Sony gear... I think because of reliability, most likely for commercial purposes.
I dont think today it really changes much which camera maker you choose as long as its Sony or Canon as Nikon seems to be losing ground and is not competitive anymore. The Canon R1 will probably be as good as the Sony. So if you wait long enough the Canon R1 which should be out before the Olympics will be able to give you what you want without jumping system. Personally I am a Nikon user who is moving to Sony, so having another Sony use is always a good thing to add to the growing team but as I say to be honest if you wait a little longer you probably get what you want from Canons new mirrorless flagship.
While the A1 is way out of my price range, you are the target market for the A1 since it will fulfill all your needs and completely use one camera system with existing E-Mount glass. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the tech tickle down to the A7IV but I’d say sell you canon gear and glass and use that money to invest in an A1 and be ready when live shows come back.
It's a shame the FF 4k on the A1 is a bland lineskip, but it's an amazing multirole nonetheless, photographically I think it's the best of the bunch. And I hate having lenses for multiple systems around. I sold all the adapted lenses I had for native ones
333 / 5000 Résultats de traduction I am very disappointed that Sony presents its professional camera in a "mini gadget" box. With a real professional case, Sony will have had all the space to put us CF Express Type B) memory cards worthy of the A1. I will be waiting for the next version of the A1 in 2 years. CF Express Type A cards are slow and rare.
Nice presentation Colin! I have Canon & Sony cameras and I do prefer the former but listening to the advantages of the A1, I would definitely lean towards that camera. But perhaps wait a month or two before selling your Canon. 😊
Colin, can you believe here in Uruguay I can buy a small used car for the Alpha 1 price? And if I add 2 good lenses? I can buy a 0km car ! It's a bit overpriced right now, but it's amazing!!!Thank you for the review :)
I have been waiting for this type of camera to come out for a year now. I have the RII and needed a new camera for better video but at the same time great photos:) this is it and i ll invest on it!:)
ONLY GOES UP TO 32,000 ISO. WOW! As a cinematographer in Vietnam (mid to late 1960's), my standard film was 16mm Kodak Ektachrome Commercial at ISO (= to ISO) 25 at 3,200 Kelvin and ISO 16 in daylight using a Wratten 85 filter. Sure, we had High Speed Ektachrome at ASA 125 but, the results were crappy. Good enough for the television monitors of the rime but, lousy for screen viewing. I would have sold my soul for the capabilities of this camera or really any of today's mirrorless offerings but, at the time, could not even imagine those capabilities.
Even having an a7s3 and an a7r4 cant compare to that beast because the a1 is also about speed, the speed of a9ii. I moved to a7r4 expecting high res wild life picture and it kept disappointing me with its AF missing so many decisive moment and I ended up regretting not taking the a9ii. This one solve everything, i’m selling my r4 and i’ll move to this
I find it hard to work out why you did not switch from Canon to Sony and bought the A7r4 if you really are thinking of switching and you really wanted high res images. You seem to have the video end of your work flow sorted with the Sony camera you have there. If I were in your position I would go for the Canon R5 and gradually switch to RF lenses and if the R1 does appear in the next 12 months then go for that. I would think long and hard about switching and selling off your Canon gear. You won’t get value for your money in my humble opinion and will get extra added value from your systems by staying with Canon for stills.
also you can see all this in a different perspective, Canon, Nikon and the others came from mechanical designs with the electronic technology, Sony for years still the rulers world wide in electronic technology, very clever Sony pull Canon/Nikon to Sony's court with the a7 mirrorless technology line where they dominate, it took 3 years to Canon to come with the R5 & R6 and only 6 months from those cameras to Sony come with the a1, my point is doesn't matter what Canon and Nikon comes Sony gonna answer with something superior, that's why I switched
I switched from Canon to Sony in January 2020. Big expense but I am ecstatic with a9M2 and and a7R4. I'll wait for the "One" until I see real world reviews.
Canon R5 is also 3 cameras in one and is far less expensive than the A1. The R5 also has much better ergonomics than the A1 and incredible RF lenses. R5 has super AF, high MPs, very fast frame rate and superior IBIS coupled with lens stabilization. And Canon's R1X flagship is expected later this year. Great to have choices!
Work with A1 first for a while to see how it behaves in real time when it comes to different situations. If you see in practice that that one camera covers most of your workflow, I guess you know then.
This isn't a knee-jerk, flashy new thing decision. I have been using the A7III for close to 3 years and took that and the canon 5D MKIV on tour, and shot about 1000 photos a day on both, plus video. Ive had the Sony A7sIII since it came. I don''t feel like Canon are offering enough in their mirrorless for me to go out and start buying a 3rd set of lenses. I already have adapters, but native is where Im heading.
Mirrorless is the way it's going, Sony A7S3 Nice. Canon 5D iv maybe ?? but A new Canon mirrorless or Sony A1 seems to me to go with the flow of things. I look forward to your choice, if any. Great tips & tricks videos too nice one.
If your premise is to hold on to the A7S III because of low light video, then the answer is simple: trade the Canon for a Sony A1. Why? You only have one system to manage: same mount, lenses, batteries, user experience, user interface, autofocus behavior, etc. Seems like a no brainer. But I’m guessing you kinda know that already. Plus, the Canon 5D IV is getting a bit long in the tooth...
You should do it for sure. The question is should I do it? For what I do I like the all in "one" camera too. It usually keeps the cost down but with the $6500 price tag that would not be true. Hell, you make the big bucks! Dooo It.
Absolutely yes yes yes , for portability the weight the clutter, after all the shoulders and arms are tools too, that you have to take care off . . Its a big decision to Change from one system to another . Good luck
in my idea This is the most logical thing to do Do not sell your Canon lenses right now And wait for Canon to release EOS R1 specs And then decide Canon has already proven that it can build anything The Olympics are on the way And no doubt Canon will soon launch its flagship mirrorless camera Rumor has it that Canon has an incredible camera on the way And most likely it will be the price of Sony A1
Did you investigate the A-1 weather sealing? Not sure if the Sony will be compatible in a rainstorm. Does Canon have better weather sealing? I like to know what you found.
Just came across your channel, great information I am loving your work buddy!! This is the fatal mistake the Sony is making, if they make a one fits all camera it will block the sales of the others. Sony have affectively made the other cameras in their range redundant. The only issue is its very expensive.
Thanks for the comment, I dissagree though, video shooters will still go for the A7S3 and landscape photogs will still go for the R, they are about 1/2 the price and a many people only shoot video or photo
I think Sony was smart putting this camera at the current price point. It prevents cannibalizing their line up. It is justifiable if you really need it. Otherwise, most customers will be better served (in terms of value) for the most dedicated application (sports, portraiture/landscape/product and video).
Hi. It's not a matter of "fan boy". If you touch a lot of areas in photography, the body cost is not what counts so much but rather the lens set you will want. Let's say you do landscape, well you're-going to want a 24-70 or 24-105, definitely a 70-200 or 100=400, may be a 16-35 too (not may be). Then you do milky way, need couple of primes there. But I like Macro too you're gone say, alright, let's get a Macro lens then. and some flash and accessories too as now many of my Canon stuff and accessories won't fit my Sony. And I need to relearn this new Sony camera and eco-system well. Sony is great but quality control on products/lens etc. is not Canon. Their 24-70 f2.8 lens is not as good as the Canon one (corner sharpness) Also Canon is not gone sit and it'll less than 2 years from now, now that they're in mirrorless that they'll have something similar, so I don't know, I would think twice unless you have the money or can amortize the expense somehow. Because another thing, your used Canon stuff is not going to give you replacement price for your new Sony lenses and you'll lose a lot along the switch. I'm a Canon user and right now look at the 5D IV because if I'd get an A7III or 7R III that produce crisper images both than the 5DIV, the coming cost to switch would be minimum in the 10/15 grands area for few lenses and the Camera, whereas right now, if I just upgrade my good old 6D for a Mark IV it's gone be just 2 grands and even less if I would sell or consign my 6D along (but i wouldn't anyway, see that's the thing, you also want a spare body somewhere, FF or APS-C). Money wise, it seems a lot for slight improvement, and if you keep the AS III for video, consider that an equal quality simple Sony Camcorder at a fifth of the price (of camera alone) will probably give you better focus consistency zoom range, and wont limit you with overheating sensor, recording time and else. So... I don't know, As much as I would want a Sony A73 with a good all rounder like their 24-105 f.4 G-lens and some Zeiss Batis 20 mm or such for night skies, wisdom tells me that if I upgrade, I should rather turn to the 5D IV, which at the end seems to be a good jack of all trades camera and will not give me the frustration of having too little Sony lenses. But yes, I'd love a little A73...
Just go for it. SONY is a technology powerhouse with the most advanced sensor technology. Their leading sensor technology allowed them to build the A1.
How about comments from a devout Nikon fan boy?? I honestly think that if the independent reviews come back positively f I r the A-1 then yeah, you should pull the trigger on it and cut ties with Canon because of all the Sony gear you are already rocking. It would be different if you we're completely switching systems outright, but being that you have already got a couple of camera bodies and native glass that seems like a good fit for you. While I love Nikon and will be on their team no matter the path ahead I have never begrudged anyone for buying whatever brand's gear if they see an opportunity for improving their work. I regret the extent of fan boy influence on RUclips and have lots of opinions about the manufacturers but at the end of day it will always be about what makes you happy while giving you the best results. Cheers
Very nice review and analysis of the camera functionality. I ordered an A1 yesterday. Don’t think anymore about it, order yours and help finance it with your Canon sells. Looking forward tho your hands on review of the A1!
Mine is on order, replacing my a7Riv. I’m keeping my a9ii for high ISO. I’m a wildlife photographer and live in Florida, thus shoot birds often. Thanks for your great tutorials.
I’m certainly interested in the A1’s high iso performance
Go for Sony A1. I pre-ordered 2 of them.
1 for you and 1 for me... right!!! 😂
Only 2? Why not 3? Congrats
Who the hell knows, why Sony do not build it with a flip out screen?
16 bits is not mentioned on sony's website for a7siii ,except for audio!!
I've been in the same position but you didn't mention the Canon R5...best for tracking I'm thinking and we know Canon glass is the best.
Iv never used flash on anything but Canon and Hasselblad at this point
I love my A7s3 for video
Good luck
Why didn't you go for the R5? A1 only has 750+ AF points yet R5 has 5900+ AF points & 45MP.
How the buffer clears on a1? That's a weak point on others sony cameras
Well said bro!
@@stevemurnan1702 hmmm
Some Parts i agree with you...

Thanks
Same Lenses as all the other Sony Mirrorless
Basically everything in 1. I was looking for that too. I will definitely buy it.
To rent or borrow such a expansive Camera before deciding to buy it too fast seems to be the best way!
I'd love to, but I wonder when that will be an actual option?
@@photoshopcafe If there is a good thing about being stuck at home thanks to a virus it would be that you have time to test out new gear and you should have some influence with people so that you can get access to various gear!
So how many frames/second is really necessary for sports and wildlife photography.
Your channel is one of the most favorite
Can you shoot 24fps burst and get raw video?
Here's my new upcoming setup:
Sony A1
Sony A7S3
Fujifilm GFX 100S
Buy me one while you’re at it😅
Sony’s offers super 35 mode, and with the a1 you get a 1.5 crop at 21 megapixels. From what I have been told, Canon dose not. That’s a big deal for me, it pretty much doubles the lens you have on you!
The R5 offers a 1.6x crop mode. I own one so can speak from experience.
Hi! I really need a cheap Camera (lens combo) for Macro shooting, literally only that, nothing else. could you reccomend me something under 1000?
A used A6000 (around $300 or so) with a used macro lens. The A6300 is a bit more expensive but, the A6000 should be fine for just macro work... About the least expensive macro with auto focus is the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro (at a bit over $200) but, there are many auto and manual focus lenses as low as the 7-Artisans 60mm Macro for $159 new from B&H in NYC...
I'm investing in Sony having a9 a7rm4 600mm 400mm 100-400mm and going to have Sony a1 .. go with full confidence
Why not the Canon 5R?
The video isn't reliable enough, it stops when it gets too hot.
Already Pre Ordered it as well, I shoot kinda the same stuff but more on the BTS / Stills motion picture movie side of things. Lots of Celebrities / action at times as well and I just need one main reliable efficient high quality camera. I really would like two lol of these but i just bought the FX6 a month ago and i'm done for a minute lol. great video and keep up the hard work
Yep! Go with the Sony A1.
WAIT! Till the real-world usage reports come out. I'm a Sony user and I'm not sure some of the A-1 specks are just Hipe.
Thank you for your review. It would be nice to be able to afford this new Sony. Maybe one day.
The A1 sounds amazing and will most likely suit your needs perfectly.

I am very disappointed that Sony presents its professional camera in a "mini gadget" box. With a real professional case, Sony will have had all the space to put us CF Express Type B) memory cards worthy of the A1. I will be waiting for the next version of the A1 in 2 years. CF Express Type A cards are slow and rare.
@@marioboily6379 Really? The ones on my S3 are lightning fast and capture 4K 120 no problem.

@@photoshopcafe thanks for getting back. I’m on 1DX2 so may wait for the R1, or just stick with DSLR and go !DX3
I’d go for an A1 since it’s an all in one!!
Good luck on the Sony A1 I would love see you know about the lens
This one solve everything, i’m selling my r4 and i’ll move to this
Electronic shutter and flash has me sold.
When people ask me what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes. Go with your gut instinct & you’ll be fine I’m sure P
I switched from Canon to Sony in January 2020. Big expense but I am ecstatic with a9M2 and and a7R4. I'll wait for the "One" until I see real world reviews.
It took me 3 & a half months to get the A7s3. I have the r4 as well so I can’t justify it at the moment! 😀👍
Hows video look on the R4?
I am seriously considering the alpha 1 for the same reasons you mentioned in the video. Get one :D
I hear the Sony colour science has changed for the better?
This is actually an interesting take. One camera instead of three. Foto, video and cinema camera
You would still need a backup camera - the A7iii would suit that need.
Work with A1 first for a while to see how it behaves in real time when it comes to different situations. If you see in practice that that one camera covers most of your workflow, I guess you know then.
I'll probably rent a few sony and Canon ones and try them out before deciding
You can change now but in one month or two canon will make a new R camera , the equivalent of 1DX in R body ... I’ll not switch at all
This isn't a knee-jerk, flashy new thing decision.
@@photoshopcafe I understand ... I’ll keep my Leica and a7r3 for now 🙃
Mirrorless is the way it's going, Sony A7S3 Nice. Canon 5D iv maybe ?? but A new Canon mirrorless or Sony A1 seems to me to go with the flow of things. I look forward to your choice, if any. Great tips & tricks videos too nice one.
Colin really interesting I was going to raise this during LFL last night but had to dash great show btw highly recommended
Thanks Russ
Dooo It.
Came for the review, stayed for Tommy Lee Jones
The R5 with new RF lenses is also awesome. Canon will roll out the flagship R1 soon. I would wait and see.
Absolutely yes yes yes , for portability the weight the clutter, after all the shoulders and arms are tools too, that you have to take care off .
. Its a big decision to Change from one system to another . Good luck
Just go for it. We will pick from your experiance
in my idea
This is the most logical thing to do
Do not sell your Canon lenses right now
And wait for Canon to release EOS R1 specs
And then decide
Canon has already proven that it can build anything
The Olympics are on the way
And no doubt Canon will soon launch its flagship mirrorless camera
Rumor has it that Canon has an incredible camera on the way
And most likely it will be the price of Sony A1
Did you investigate the A-1 weather sealing? Not sure if the Sony will be compatible in a rainstorm. Does Canon have better weather sealing? I like to know what you found.
I don't know yet. My guess is Canons weather seal is better, but not so sure about the R
George bush and Tommy Lee jones combined in one 😂
Of course you have to go for a Sony A1 or two!
@@DiegoTerzano Yes I agree with your thinking.....keep up the good work my friend!!!
I switched from Nikon to sony.
Get the Alpha 1!!!
Go with what works for you!
For your jobs with clients you need at least a back up camera body.
Sorry, off topic here. But you kinda look like a younger brother of Tommy Lee Jones somehow.
Was gona write the same thing 😂😂😂
Cheers
If it's what you want go for it bruh.. Less headaches equals a more carefree work environment..
My wife and I both shoot Sony for wildlife and birds so getting the a1 is a $13,000 purchase for me.
