  • Climbing the Comer hill at the southend of the Howie Siding is somewhat challenging for northbound trains. This video features a tank train, a manifest (X676-05), and a coal train at various locations and during chases. But in the focus of this episode is "The Hill". [© 2015 MBMARS Productions. I know this is a really old video but it was in my recommended on YT so here I am. :) Did we catch a glimpse of a train hopper on the last car, a grainer, I think - at 8:54 ? I could be wrong, but I think that's a person. Turned away, but looking back at you, wool cap and heavy coat. Idk.

      Wow, you have great eyes! I think you're right. Since I stare on my little camera display when filming I didn't see it, but neither did I notice it when editing the video. But yea, that was a hobo!

      I watch a lot of hoppers like Shoestring and the late Stobe the Hobo. They're just people without money trying to get around the country and they're mostly a great bunch of guys.
      What makes me sad is that some foamers see themselves as do-gooders when they report riders, but really they're just delaying trains and creating a hassle nobody wants to deal with. If it weren't for lawyers, everyone involved would be happier just ignoring them.

    the high rails have aneed to be there, they help keep your trains safe by doing rail maintenance.

    The two heavy flat cars, with 12 axles and 8 axles, are marked DODX. I did a little Googling, and it looks like they're Dept. of Defense cars made for hauling armor. Don't know what was on them on this train, something big and cylindrical, wrapped in flapping green tarps.

      +Fred Buls Cool. Thanks for checking! I didn't know this. I also don't know more about the cargo then what is shown in the video.

      +Fred Buls Wow, very interesting. Thank you for pointing me to this video. It is amazing that they transport this stuff in an ordinary manifest. Thanks again, I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe I see something similar again here.

    #20 turnouts and the latest ribbon rail abound leads to some pretty good harmonics on those cars in the siding...

    Why is there always a grain car at the front and rear of a tank train?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад +1

      These are called buffer cars and provide some additional safety in case of a fire or explosion.

    wonder why they could not grade that hill and make the ride level.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      +zippa .way I wish I knew. Must have been a heavy load. The first flat car had 12, the second 8 axles!

    • @JOINTBAW
      @JOINTBAW 8 лет назад

      yea that prolly why it had hire priority and why do tank train have cars in front and back of the tank tankers for? And whats the difference?

      +zippa .way I'd guess the hoppers at both ends are a safety feature to limit the impact on the tankers in case of a head-on collision.

    You need some BNSF in your life, bruh.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 года назад +1

      Well, there are many BNSF trains in videos on my channel. I've filmed at various locations in the southwest and northwest throughout the past years.
