This is a great example of why I love learning on YT, not only can you find instruction on what you want to do, in this case I was looking for 'painting waves with acrylics', but you can sometimes find someone doing almost exactly what you want to learn. I will be painting a mural of a seascape on a friends fish and chip shop next month, and I think I will actually break out the plastic for the full lesson on this dudes site. So remember: if you are several beers into an evening and are making promises for creative services you are only semi skilled in, always allow for at least a month to procrastinate and 3 days to practice before doing the job.

It continues to blow me away at how someone of your caliber cares enough about others to turn turn on to what they know. One of the most important aspects to learning any new skill is the understanding of function and relation to form. This gentleman understands the way waves function. He mentions coral. He describes currents after he describes how light plays a role beneath the waves and how both flow together as he forms what what we see here. It's clear to me that this wisdom aides him the recreation and the reinterpretation of what is arguably much more than a wave. This is a mural created by a young artistic craftsman.

I have been an artist since I could pick up a crayon and draw on a kitchen wall. As I I've grown up I have worked in all kinds of media's working on portraits and landscapes. I have never been able to paint seascapes. With todays technology I can now see how it's done, and Joe you have inspired me to give it another try at the age of 69. I was in Panama City Beach watching the waves come in and go out during the time hurricane Harvey was hitting Texas, so I was able to film some great wave pattern's, thanks again.

Joe iv been drawing for years but was never to confident to try painting ....I grew up watching Bob Ross and was always amazed by how his paintings would flow ..... a awhile ago I started painting scenes with spray paint and it kinda got me more into murals... but your videos are really helping me understand so much more about all that goes into it....and how to blend with just basic colors...and understanding perspective.and painting water in different ways...... I just wanted to say thank for taking the time to post these videos....you truly an amazing artist!....thanks again.

You have so much positive feedback and tools to share its heart warming. I could praise you on your talent for hours, but your work speaks for itself. You're an amazing artist(to say the least) and anytime I need a good kick in the arse to become motivated I watch one of your videos. You're truly and inspiration and great teacher! where there’s less green, there’s more red.
roll and smear with a small roller, 45 degree angle ( brilliance! )
    blend with brush
feathered tapers. keep the angles in sync.
sometimes a frown, sometimes smiles. sometimes building a smile out of frowns.
    level spots
    bright green!
    making the waterwall wave
swooping the break - the white
    Break unevenly
five stripes of colour in the breaking wave...colour/shadow...
follow the lines in the wavelets and seafoam
find the lines and connect them
    ...
putting shadow under the little strands of seafoam on the beach
more white than one might imagine!
    beautiful!

5 stripes of color: from top to bottom: white, bluish-white, shadow-blue, saturated color (green), shadow-blue. I followed this technique and it works WONDERFULLY

I've always wanted to know how to make the light shine through the wave, and you have shown that and so much more - great work, thanks!

Hello, I just discovered by chance your video on you tube, it is with pleasure that I am your gestures. Your fingering is that of a great artist, you restore nature as it takes your contemplator; once caught in the rythm of the waves, I could not look away. Your method is as simple as it is attractive. It's really nice to see your gestures evolve to offer us wonders. Bravo congratulations and bravo, I'll hat you. Thank you and good evening or good night.

    Nice acrylics painting!
Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint containing pigment suspension. Acrylic paints are water-soluble, but become water-resistant when dry. It has the advantage of drying faster and being water soluble. I have seen some amazing acrylics paintings at Indian At Ideas, an online art gallery.
