I’ve had the good fortune of playing this tune with the singer Jimmy Hall , I told him when I was 12 I had contracted viral meningitis, I was in the hospital coming out of a coma , the first song I heard was this tune playing on the radio and it stuck with me all these years.
The late, great Charlie Daniels once said, "Jimmy Hall's got more soul in his little finger than most people have in their whole body." If that's not a compliment of the highest order I don't know what is? At age 71 now, Jimmy's voice still sounds as strong as ever! Sounds as good as when he recorded the song with Wet Willie back in their hay day in 1974.
Just my opinion, but I think he is like a fine wine. He has gotten even better with age. That heart and soul that he performs with is a God given gift. It can't be learned, bought, or taught. Ya either got it or you don't, and Jimmy has always had it all.

worked a outdoor festival in '75, near Troy, NC; WW was the last band to play before the storm from hell kicked in..I still remember the harps he had in his belt that evening. The CDB are MT Band didn't play because of the storm, and what people did (tearing shit up, including the stage) seems like yesterday...good times 😁
I've loved this song from Wet Willie, and this version too. Both have been on my playlists for a couple of years, but in light of recent events, this version brought me to tears today. On Wednesday, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Recurring Metastatic Melanoma in my left leg, my liver and pancreas and surrounding lymph nodes, and other areas throughout my abdomen. I'm grateful that my parents gave me a love for music, and that God gave me the ability to sing and play. Jimmy reminds us that, when we're faced with adversity, it's essential that we maintain a positive outlook and look for things to focus on in the here and now, and not dwell on our own morbidity. Keep On Smilin', indeed.

Kids, back when we used rotary phones, phone books, had no Internet, they played music from their souls. No put ons, no lip sync. Just real music, that stands the test of time.
I'm right there with ya! At that time, I wasn't aware how immensely talented the musicians had to be, not to mention a singer, or a band had to have that "X" factor in addition to talent, and passion for the craft in order to get that ever illusive "record contract". Otherwise the world would pass them by... I didn't realize just how great the music was that came out in the early 70's. Nowadays anybody with some gear, and a camera thinks they're gonna set the world on fire with auto-tune, overdubs, etc. I think that's why the older music is so great! It was recorded on tape, actual moving parts, and if someone made a mistake, they had to play it again, all the way through! I'm just 1 old man rambling about the past. Our parents told us how easy we had it compared to when they grew up, and the cycle continues. But, there's something to be said about the quality of music in the new "digital age" vs. "the good old days"! Like I said, old man rambling, buy I truly believe that it just isn't the same, "new" music has no "soul" for the most part. Gimmicks, and computers will NEVER replace what once was. This song was released on the same day as the 50th anniversary of my older brother’s death, he was killed by a drunk driver on May 22, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan on Woodward Ave. & State Fair a.k.a 7-1/2 mile rd. at the age of 19 his name’s Jim Nabors and I still miss him even after all these years and this song says it all, you gotta keep on smiling through the pain! It’s what keeps me going, well that the medical cannabis and the good Lord above!
Three of us kids left NY and NJ in 1974 to travel to Knoxville to trans tape hours and hours of Allman Brothers live material. Then we decided, what the heck, Macon can’t be that far! So off to Macon we went. I remember visiting the recording studio and seeing the new graves of Duane and Berry. We found all kinds of places that we recognized from pictures. One was the album cover of a Wet Willie! Amazing journey! And that journey includes all the wonderful music since then! The place had Duane’s name written all over. Duane paved the way for many of these bands!

Jimmy is a life long friend. I can't tell you what a great person he is. Sang at our wedding and my dad's funeral. I can tell you I have seen him probably 50 times and there is no auto tune or Protools involved here just God given talent and I would bet it was done in one take. Jimmy doesn't need but one

Been listening to a lot of Texas Music as I am old. Grew up with Capricorn records Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers hell everybody's on Capricorn back in the day. I thought they got bought out by Warner Brothers. I see their back and I see Blackberry smokes with them I feel like I stepped back in time and it was a hell of a lot better time than it is today. Thanks Blackberry Smoke and Capricorn records for bringing back the South. Maybe we will rise again.
Wet Willie who Jimmy Hall is a singer for is the first concert I ever went to. I wonder if he remembers, it was in Warner Robins Georgia that's about 20 Mi south of Macon I think and not sure of the year maybe 1972 somewhere around there. Well we sure had a great time glad to see he still had the chops to sing it here.

Music allows you to do something nothing else will. You can time shift through music. In 1974 I remember I met a girl I'll never forget and "keep on smilin'" was part of the soundtrack of that summer. We've been together 48 years and this song took me right back to that time when I was 16 in 1974.

Jimmy is a life long friend. I can't tell you what a great person he is. Sang at our wedding and my dad's funeral. I can tell you I have seen him probably 50 times and there is no auto tune or Protools involved here just God given talent and I would bet it was done in one take. Jimmy doesn't need but one

Been listening to a lot of Texas Music as I am old. Grew up with Capricorn records Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers hell everybody's on Capricorn back in the day. I thought they got bought out by Warner Brothers. I see their back and I see Blackberry smokes with them I feel like I stepped back in time and it was a hell of a lot better time than it is today. Thanks Blackberry Smoke and Capricorn records for bringing back the South. Maybe we will rise again.

Wet Willie who Jimmy Hall is a singer for is the first concert I ever went to. I wonder if he remembers, it was in Warner Robins Georgia that's about 20 Mi south of Macon I think and not sure of the year maybe 1972 somewhere around there. Well we sure had a great time glad to see he still had the chops to sing it here.
