I’ll say big waves can be had but paddling out will be a challenge and i use a thruster set up when it’s bigger(6-8 max and that’s if I had wheaties, went to church, temple, mosque and a miracle from any god on the same day) for me ride it quad and slap a fifth nubby when I feel it’s needed.

Fishes work very well in walled up long running waves in the shoulder to head high range. Though you will not surf the fish as aggressively as a shortboard due to the apparent design attributes it will still be fun and fast with a more cruisey flowing style of surfing. They also work amazing for riding barrels.

Trust me a twin keel retro fish can handle 1-double overhead my dad used to rude his retro fish in 12 foot beach brake and there’s nothing like carving a twin keel in big surf

Get a foam longboard first!! These are for intermediate surfers who already have a good pop-up

sounds like he's reading from a manual written on fish boards by surfschools... Whilst fishes work pretty good in summer waves, fishes are actually step ups that activate on big, steep and long faces. Originally from kneeboard-designs that were made for hollow tubes!
