I'm trying to get that smooth effect using the gradient tool. I wish you would have showed us the setting you used. I think that's the part you forgot about.
My brush won't work on the Layer Mask! It only works on black and then essentially erases the photo. All of my settings are set the same. :/ anyone have any help

Please tell the gradient settings.
Help! When I get to the gradient part I can do one side and then when I go to the other side the whole gradient moves?
This was driving me crazy too! Change the gradient from to foreground to transparent. Otherwise the gradient just fills in the rest with the color.
