This is the first time that I've made a video on the cinematography of a show/movie and I really loved the process for this. It was an amazing experience to go through all the amazing scenes and then make a video. Hopefully, I will do more such videos in the coming time on various other shows/movies! Even I, a Japanese, was impressed as if I was watching the Japan of the past. I had never seen such a period drama in Japan due to a small budget. I can only express my gratitude for the beautiful depiction of the story of our ancestors. I am grateful to you 「かたじけない」for your excellent editing! lol
Shogun really shook me to the core. It is everything what a great period drama should be. While watching the show i felt like being transported to the ancient Japan and to all its glory. Such a great adaptation. Given the complex story and its characters the show really backed up each and every character very well. Each character felt like a piece in the chessboard, moving forward and back ward to complete the quest. The show is literally a great feast to both eyes and mind. Really nice edit by the way❤
Absolute masterpiece, thank you for doing it justice. I guess I've got to watch the series again since it's been a bit, and it holds a pretty epic portion of my brain hostage. Job well done!
Well, ive got quite some Voices in my Surrounding, stating the Series were too Dark, to earthly Coloured. I can see where that comes from, as the 80`s Installement had an bigger Palette, and nowaday western Series do literally ride on an prime Spectral Bow. I think it was absolte great how they used Light, Shadow and Shade. Thx for this gorgeous Video!
The traditional aesthetic sense of Japan associated with "light, shadow, and shade” that Junichiro Tanizaki depicted in his book "陰翳礼讃(In Praise of Shadows)" must have been such scenes.
This is my first exposure to this show, but how beautiful!!! I am absolutely looking into this now. ❤️ It may be mostly a tribute to the cinematography, but it's enough to be absolutely intriguing.
I had that initially but decided to replace it with the scenes of Ishido and Toranaga at 3:46...creating a parallel and a scene similar to of mariko and john praying at the same time.

The 1980 production was done in Japan and it was one of the most expensive at the time. Superb sets too.
@yujinin Thank you very much! "ありがとう"

Shogun is one of my favorite show! It was such an amazing adaption. They nailed it.
Someone likened Shogun to a feast for the eyes, I’m gonna have to agree with that sentiment.

I would highly recommend to watch this show! And thank you very much!
Amazing!!!!
Thank you!
I expected (and wished) this would include the shot of the two praying at the same time in different rooms 😔
I had that initially but decided to replace it with the scenes of Ishido and Toranaga at 3:46...creating a parallel and a scene similar to of mariko and john praying at the same time.
A land of leaden skies and steely waters, enveloped in yellow-gray murk, inhabited by a death-cult. - Shogunlandia
one of the best tv shows ever
Yes!
A number of divine, terrible and so beautiful scenes unfold in front of the viewers, as if they were filmed in JAPAN at that time..
この映像の美しさを、映画館のスクリーンで観る事が今の私の願いです。
