That year that Vice Carter won the dunk contest , 2000, was great. In the few previous years before it, the contest fell off, to the point that the NBA removed it from the All Star weekend, because no one cared about it. His win, and his style of dunk, has been said to be the reason why they have kept the dunk contest going ever since.
He also has the greatest in game dunk ever, look up greatest dunk. The guy was 7ft and be jumped over him and the big man lived in depression for years and wanted to kill himself at one point, he talks about it
The big difference between Dr. J and Jordan's FT line dunks is that Jordan dribbled down the floor and Dr. J didn't. It's a lot easier to get a good grip, palm the ball and run down for the dunk than it is to dribble down the floor and palm it off the last dribble while trying to hit your takeoff point.
If you can grip a ball, it’s not much different from doing it not dribbling to doing it while taking 2 steps off the dribble. It’s probably harder to palm the ball for longer than a few steps. I don’t agree with your “a lot easier” just because it’s easy for me to palm the ball off the dribble when I bring it into 2 hands. It’s hard for me to run while palming the ball. It’s all about the timing of when you start palming it. I don’t think the dribbling makes a big difference. It could make the timing of the jump easier if you aren’t dribbling, but it mostly depends on how you practice it. But anyway, if I can palm the ball just as easy while dribbling as running and palming it as I get close, these greats can do it better, easier. I’m sure most of the people who have played in the nba could palm the ball off of 2 steps, it’s really not that tough. Just my perspective from personal experience of course.

Jordan could fly!!!!
I'm sorry but Michael Jordan was pretty much doing the SAME dunk, guess his name really carried some weight...
Mjs head is so close to the rim on those free throw dunks vs everyone else including LaVine
It’s a crime that Aaron Gordon jumping over Tacko Fall can never be grouped with these dunks
Vince Carter is the coldest in-game dunker of all time.
Mj dunk gon be top 5 top 10 always
Spud!!! Yeah!!
You know Vince was the first betweener in history..at least in the dunk contest...that shit changed the competition and dunkers in the league forever
Spud Webb led his JUCO team in dunks and Block shots! (Midland Jr College)
Gotta take into account how stylish the move was too (and the era it was done in).
They should have shown Dominique's dunks slowed down and from different angles. He was the gold standard at the time. And you do know that Spud Webb is like 5'2"!
They practice this stuff off season😎
Honorable mention to A. Gordon!
Do best IN GAME dunks
just do a Jordan Kilganon reaction video, he blows them all away :)
Lotta great dunkers in here, but I’ll tell you this much y’all wanna see some dunks watch Vince, Carter’s dunk mixtapes that dude got some dunks and I make a little slide out of your seat going. Damn.
