- Avalon McPartland Jimmy jam 1975
From a 1975 club concert movie called At the Top we see a performance of a number of musicians who had been in some way been associated with Bix Beiderbecke. Jimmy McParland, Joe Venuti and Spiegle Wilcox played with him in the twenties and the other musicians certainly appreciated Bix's musical genius.
We see pianist Marion McPartland, alto horn player Dick Cary, Jack Mahue clarinet, drummer Cliff Leeman and bassist Major Holly.
Here goes Avalon. Видеоклипы
The lady had chops and taste. And a great radio show.
R.I.P. the super-stylish Marian McPartland. A jazz woman with class, a class of her own. Thanks so much for your outstanding piano sounds. Jazz of this kind will live on forever!
Except for Marian, just a bunch of noise
This geezer club - and I say that affectionately - is laying it down. This is the high end of musicianship. Marian is a master. Great. Just great.
Joe Venuti on violin along with Jack Manue on clarinet are outstanding as well as Marion of course.
I remember long ago listening to Marion Mc Partland s piano jazz on NPR ( NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO )
May Marian, Jimmy and their legacy in Music live on forever!
Brilliant! I had no idea how great Marian's comping skills were. And Venuti was the best. They all played their hearts out. Great clip. THANK YOU!
Superb. Thanks for posting.
Glorious - Thank You
I love Marion mcpartland
Excellent with very good interesting photos

Great Pianist!!!
CaughMrs Mcpartland and Major Holly alive. I am blessed.
I love me some Marian McPartland
So this is what heaven sounds like. Thanks for the posting.
Joe Venuti swings like crazy! God bless Marian McParland!
As i was growing up, i would hear her name mentioned from time to time, never paid any attention...till her PBS show.
What a classy lady. I Know I will miss her.
I loved that show! My local affiliate carried it on their radio station.
I came here for Jimmy and Marian and stayed for the all star lineup!
Marian I es so honor to you guest
¡Qué extraordinaria pianista! Una joya del jazz.
Great Session......................old guys (and gals) rule
Good dreams music!
so nice. Thanks
ONE OF THE BEST VIOLIN JAZZ SOLOS I EVER HEARD AND THAT IS HARD TO PULL ON THAT INSTRUMENT!
Leonard Seed aaaaahhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahaha ... he would tell Yehudi Menuhin to go home 😝🎻

You're right. However, to be fair to Menuhin, as well as knowing his own ability he also knew his limitations, and he knew he wasna a Jazz violinist, and he knew he wasna a Scots fiddler. 7
I saw a programme of Menuhin with Stephane Grappelli, and another one of him with an elderly, noted traditional Scots fiddler. He showed great interest in their ways of playing, and seemed to appreciate the differences between what they were doing and his own classical style. He was particularly blown away by Grappelli. The traditional Scots fiddling had different ways of bowing to give the Scottish "snap" which intrigued him. He came across as a modest, likeable man whom you would never have guessed was the foremost classical violinist in the world.
Jazz Violin has been revived. Check out: ruclips.net/video/CuHrydtkVAQ/видео.html The lady on violin was about 20 years oldwhen this was recorded, JUST GETTING STARTED!
Delightful
My year of birth😁
A hit of fun and the past
so nice!
She has more fingers than the rest of us, they just move so fast you never get a chance to count. This is wonderful.
YESSSSS
I could always trust your show marion for great entertainment,, the rest of my pbs college station, not so much, but I am still a member
Marian out-swings all of them!
Thanks for pointing that out, Hermann. I'd never have spotted it!
it's M A R I A N !
I just read a biography on this gal. She was a real workhorse.
Marian manifique!
wish there was some more stuff on here featuring cliff leeman on skins, he really drives a band!
You are so right: Cliff Leeman was a wonderful, but somehow unheralded drummer, whose "fours" displayed something of a self-deprecrating wit. Catch him on Bobby Hackett's Live from the Roosevelt Grill series, available on RUclips. There's also a Condon set from the 50's I think available.
Yeah they do.
RIP
I like everybody who played with big spiderback.
What an assemblage!
with Dick Carey, Cliff Leman, Spiegle Wilcox, Joe Venuti
dick carey was also a hell of a great piano player, he played piano with Louis armstrongs all stars in the 40's when sid catlett was also in the band.

Marian passed away Aug. 20 2013 at age 95 .
I was gonna say...she's gotta be pretty long in the tooth if she's still around.
Thanks for the good news,douche
I hope peacefully, in a place she loved, surrounded by people she loves.
Jimmy replaced Bix in the Wolverine orchestra, that is a little than "some way associated" with Bix. Also Bix bought Jimmy his first pro cornet (a Conn Victor). Bix's style is very evident is Jimmy's solo on this video.
Good to see Jimmy on this..a rare talent
DICK CAREY WAS ALSO A BAD ASSED PIANO PLAYER WITH LOUIS AND THE ALL-STARS.
Dick Cary here plays his(bach) F trumpet, great instrument ,great player, not the Eb horn.
Dick Carey was called the musical CENTIPEDE
Moo mlno
Sorry, her name is MARIAN !
It's spelled "Marian," with an "a," not "Marion."
Please correct the title, it's Marian not Marion.
What's Marion smokin'?
I don't think that's Jack Maheu on clarinet.Whoever it is is extremely good, has a touch of bebop in his playing, not unlike Peanuts Hucko had.Note: The clarinet player was identified on" At the Jazzband Ball" by the same group as Ross or Russ Musseri(I'm not sure that's the right spelling)
Russ Musseri played tenor sax with the Tony Pastor Orch: maybe it's him. It doesn't look (or sound) like Jack Maheu.
They just don't write good music like that anymore.
