*Thumbs Up X 10* Awezome Musicians! Dixieland - kinda "Gypsy Jazzed", guitar surprised me. Rhythm is Precision! Really enjoyed them- "?" Don't know who they are - but They Are Really Good! Nice share - 3rd listen lol - I could see Harry "Sweets" Edison playing with these guys - that's my idea of a compliment ❤
I remember wonderful nights at the Southerland (or was it Sutherland?) Lounge on the South Side of Chicago listening to Miles, Horace Silver, Chico Hamilton, and other greats playing in their Trio, or Quintet or???. How lucky I am to have had those experiences--and this reminds me of those days. Thanks for sharing!
ELHOMENAJE A LOS MEJORES ARISTAS DE MARTE PORQUE NO ? CUANTO CUESTA TODA SUS VIDAS EN EL MEJOR JAZZ ES INCREIBLE ESTO !! Y EL 80 POR CENTO VINERON A ARENTINA POR MI Y OTROS SON AMIGOS DE AQUELLOS AÑOS !!
I didn't know these were taped in the '80's. When I played with Tony Parente, in NYC in the 60's early '70's, we called it " Thats a Parente ". I had the pleasure of sitting in with " Peanuts " in Palm Springs , in the Eighties, what a gentleman. and great player, as well. Is that Bobbie Shew on trumpet ? or Jack Sheldon? I had worked with Jack in Atlantic City, on the Merv Griffen Show. a couple of years before this session. It looked like Jack but at that age it could have been Bobbie.
Wild Bill Davison (cornet) - maybe Tom Saunders (Cornet) - Yank Lawson (Trumpet) - George Masso & Bon Havens (Trombones) - Peanuts Hucko (Clarinet) - Bob Wilber (Soprano Sax) - Ralph Sutton (Piano) - Jack Lesberg (Bass) - Bucky Pizzarelli (Git.) - Gus Johnson must be the drummer.
Lew Stone's 1934 version is much better: their solo playing far outstrips this - and shows even with the crude recording of the time. Peanuts is great- but Joe Crossman he aint..
Sorry to disagree. I used to listen to Dad's record of Lou Stone's version. Not in the same street as this. Only one British band of that era that was really good was Ambrose.
some of the greatest musicians who ever lived all on the same bandstand! All jazz giants!
Agreed
These guys are really kicking it. A real good jam ! Enjoyed it immensely.
