Actually, what we hear here is "Theme from the Sting." The original, up tempo version is "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin. The up tempo melody was adapted for the movie as a more laid-back casual tune to accompany the movie.
That is the best rendition cience Scott Joplin himself played it. I'm judging this from old film footage and recording I've seen and heard. Thank you for sharing your beautifuly played piece. ✔️
Dear Nathan, last week i enjoyed your "maple leaf rag" execution, and i felt dazzled feeling yor talent. Tonight i'm enjoying you again playing "the entertainer" and now i've no more doubts, i'm sure, you're a great talent! Don't waste it! Have a good luck
Beautiful rendition! It was lovely to hear it played at a proper tempo, not rushed as so many seem to do. Your introduction was very professional, the whole performance excellent! Best wishes for a great future 🙂
Love it! Nate's got talent, for sure. Kudos to Mr. Sansar. I perform on my channel too, it's great to find a fellow musician on here. All the best! I've subscribed :)
Thank you, Connor! Nate’s my son, and he’s taken such pride in his Scott Joplin pieces! Thanks for the subscription and the kind words! Best to you as well! Mike
This sounds awesome, not too slow for once, so many people either rush this or play it like a snail on a treadmill trying to get to the stop button! One thing I noticed however is that the piano is out of tune a bit in the treble, very strange to me since this is clearly in a recording space, not to mention a concert grand xD
Thank you, my friend! I'll say the piano this is played on is the same one used for all of his students for their lessons. He has other pianos used in the studio for recording sessions, but they don't accommodate for the video setup, so it could very well be a bit out of tune. I'll definitely share your comments with Nate!
@@wit2pz Yeah, that's what I thought, most student pianos are much more out of tune than that though so I'm not complaining, Nate's got a talent that rocks!
In my opinion, ragtime music (and boogie woogie music) don't sound right on a grand piano. They sound best on a vintage upright. For best results the piano should be tuned in the ragtime or honky tonk style, where the piano is intentionally (and evenly) out of tune.
Here are a couple examples ruclips.net/video/WROVimE-ix8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/6HfqLUOzzg0/видео.html I would be interested in hearing a grand piano tuned in this style.
@@scottbc31h22 It can sound off on a grand, especially if it isn't played right. I've found that ragtime sounds awesome on anything as long as the playing is good. Big old uprights, even if they aren't detuned, still offer a really nice big and warm tone, especially when the hammers are bright from age.
Nate clearly likes the rather dry and staccato technique, it suits the Entertainer quite well and will work with just about any rag. I personally use sustain liberally to get the rich sympathetic resonance out of a piano that happens when all the strings are undamped and can vibrate with the other notes.
Ask Nate if he can play Joseph Lamb's Cottontail Rag, it's a great tune, I have a piano tutorial with sheet music linked in the video description on my channel, I highly recommend it ;)
I'll check it out and see if it's something we can play with while we're off this week. He hasn't heard of it or seen it before, so I'll egg him on to try and step up to the challenge!
@@wit2pz It's a little known tune, but it's a really good one, it has tenths too and I can tell that Nate's got large hands so he should have no problem ;)
Stunning accuracy, amazingly played!

How do you feel about pedal in Ragtime?
