    Correction: This bike doesn't have a 6 axis IMU but it does have wheelie control. Seems I got confused with the Africa Twin! I also neglected to mention the 20L fuel tank, good for around 200 miles or so! Thanks for watching!

      Having done a fair bit of touring, I am really tired of lubing the chain every 500 miles or so. That's like once every day or two if you're doing long distance touring. So, I agree this bike should have been designed with a shaft drive. It would be worth the extra weight and cost. I also will seriously miss the frunk feature of my NC750 X

    • @paulyflyer8154
      @paulyflyer8154 2 года назад

      Exactly the same here. Thinking of Africa Twin after my CB500X and I'm trying desperately to avoid the vortex that inevitably leads to the GS. Still not convinced about the AT to be honest, and if the NT had shaft drive I may be able to finally end the calling of the GS!

    • @FourIntoOne

      @@paulyflyer8154 thankfully I have done the GS/GSA thing. They are expensive, ugly (IMHO) and as ubiquitous now as washing machines or fridges - and they are not as reliable or as well built as you might think. These days I will take the AT every time.

    The main issue which many reviewers have mentioned about the V Strom 1050 was the windshield. They all complained about the fact that the rider must dismount for making the windshield adjustments. But when it comes abut a Honda it doesn't seem to be an issue at all, even though the windshield adjustment is more difficult to be done at the NT....

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  2 года назад

      I mention this about the NT in this very video. The issue with the VStrom is that it could have been so easily fixed to be able to do it on the bike.

My BMWs plough a different furrow and are to be given credit for it. I am not saying that Hondas are poor bikes; far from it, but if you look at the Japanese brands it is as though they have almost given up on trying to move things on and are content on putting their older designs in new clothes. If it brings them commercial success in the long term then all credit to them, but I am reminded a little of the demise of the British bike industry which had a similar philosophy albeit out of lack of resources. The CBF1000 was a sports tourer 17 years ago with 100hp and 100Nm of torque at about the same weight, and a seat height were you can get your feet flat on the ground. For reference at release it was just over £5K. Progress, eh? I don’t know why bike manufacturers don’t look again at belt drive. Chain drive on this style of bike just feels wrong, it seems shaft drive is now deemed to be too expensive/heavy, but a belt is as cheap as a chain, usually lasts longer and has the least driveline lash of any drive mechanism. Ultimately it will sell as it is a Honda but I couldn’t never get off, walk away, look back and think “that’s a great looking bike”. It resembles a scooter.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  2 года назад

      I've never ridden the old CBF1000 but like I always say, don't live in the spec sheet. I'd be willing to bet the NT handles much better than the old CBF.

    • @MH-xd2nd
      @MH-xd2nd 2 года назад

      @@Englishbikerdan you’d be surprised how well the CBF handles. It’s more likely that the brakes are a little firmer and extra gizmos like traction control, quick shifter etc. are definitely signs of progress, but that balances with euro emissions regs making it harder for manufacturers to make cleaner engines whilst maintaining power levels and fuelling. Taking into account inflation the CBF would cost £8K now…

    Nice review! I was very interested in this bike when I saw it at the NEC show last December and had a test ride as soon as the local dealer got one. I agree completely about the jerky throttle, particularly in low gears. All reviews I’ve seen of the DCT version don’t mention this, so maybe it’s only an issue with the manual gearbox. For me it was a show stopper. I also found the switch gear very ‘busy’. After an hour and a half riding the bike I was still having to look down to find the indicator switch and also inadvertently selected high beam several times due the edge of my glove rubbing against the switch.

    Any thoughts on why Honda didn't adopt the ever-so-popular "frunk" design found in the NC750? (Fuel stored in a cell under the seat, providing lower center of gravity and freeing up space for your helmet in the frunk where the fuel tank is normally located.)
    And, why didn't we get a shaft drive on a bike this size intended for touring? I'd pay extra not to have to lube the chain after every 10 hours or so of riding! (Yes, chain lubing every 500 miles is recommended. What a pain when touring!)

    The description settings for power is odd and runs contrary to the XADV? I understand that more "bars lit" means more intervention. As in traction control or ABS or engine braking more segments more intervention. But for "power" in the XADV it would seem more bars lit is greater throttle sensitivity and well,,, more power. In the XADV default modes of sport and gravel the default factory setting has all segments lit which means "most power" not more intervention or less power. XADV 1 segment of power (rain) is less power and 3 segments is more power not more intervention as in the other selections? How strange the approach to this would be different between two similar Honda models with DCT. Hmmmm,,,,,

      I believe the AT has the latest iteration of the DCT software, unlike the NT. However, it should still be pretty good. The latest software takes lean angles account and needs input from the 6-axis EMU (which the NT unfortunately doesn't have).

      @@Englishbikerdan Great - just the informed opinion I’m looking forward to hearing. I’m really interested in hearing about the difference between the latest Africa Twin’s DCT and the NT’s version. I found early versions had “inappropriate” gear shifts while latest version offers almost eerily intuitive shifting. Looking forward to the review!

    I would buy the Africa Twin….

  • @michaelironrider9443
    @michaelironrider9443 2 года назад

    Yeah these are the problems with this brand new bike, when comparing it to the africa twin:
    - no 6 axis IMU
    - no electronic suspension
    Further its a bit heavy and bulky for a sports tourer... if you mount the side bags, or buy DCT (or both), it weighs 250-260 kg. Same as a BMW GS.
    So I went for a better equipped sports tourer from another brand (dont even know if I would be able to buy the NT- availability here in mainland Europe is very limited, same as some other models from Honda...)

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  2 года назад +5

      If you watch my video you'll see the weight isn't an issue, in fact it never crossed my mind at all during the ride. It doesn't 'need' an IMU either. In fact I thought it had one! :D The problem with many of todays customers is they get so caught up in the spec sheets, that they forget to just go ride a bike and see how it makes them feel. I don't consider the NT to be a sports tourer, I can't see anything in the marketing blurb where Honda think it's one. So I don't think I would compare it to the likes of the Ninja S1000SX or GSX-S1000GT, as to me it's not in the same category. It's kind of created it's own thing, and that seems to be working judging by sales.
