      Bart No, they will most likely update the iMac 21.5 inch first because it’s been longest without an update. Even the A12X can outperform a base iMac 21.5. Arm ≠ Weak.
      I’d assume Apple would wait a while to update the 27” since they just updated it. If i were to guess they’d announce it in 2022, and have a “One more thing” be a new Mac Pro.

At least with this coming switch, we can still keep our intel machines current by using an alternative operating system. That’s the real reason they’re switching away from intel. 6:28 Core Player can be used on PowerPC G4 Macs at around 1GHz and higher to playback 720P video at it's native framerate, and any G5 should crunch through a 1080P video with it as well. At least 32MB vRAM on the G4 recommended and 64 on the G5. This is all due to lack of codecs and codec optimizations, which Core Player does offer.

    This was a fun comparison of Intel iMacs. However, as someone who owns both a white 20 inch Power PC G5 iMac and a white 24 inch Intel iMac, I actually prefer the older model. While, the larger 24 inch does have a built-in iSight camera along with both a Fire-wire 400 port and a Fire-wire 800 port it does have several limitations. Because, if you want to run Power PC programs for OS X you need Rosetta. Therefore, you cannot upgrade past OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. While, the G5 iMac supports both classic OS 9 and OS X applications. Plus, you can install iLife '09 and 'iWorks '09 on both systems. In addition, since the G5 iMac was designed to be home user upgradable (to add an airport card, and more RAM, etc.) with a standard screw driver the rear panel just slides right off.

    My 1st iMac was 17" Intel Core 2 Duo (T7200 Merom) come with 1GB DDR2 and ATI X1600 (pretty good spec on that time), it is 2006, and the screen quality and resolution is ahead than PC that time, 1440x900, while most of other is still 1280x800, 1024x768 etc.
    And the built-in SPEAKER is very nice ! I still remember how often I use Frontrow to listen music, and my friend keep finding where is the speaker ?
    The design is simply excellent, the included white keyboard and mice (they call mice) is very high quality, and it run both Mac OS and Windows !

    I love my iMac also for these reasons: It can run Windows and major game titles. I can upgrade the RAM easily. It has a great bezel that helps to separate the background "noise" from where my eyes are focusing. It has a super 5K display that doesn't get covered in smudges because the Mac OS is optimized well for use without touch on the screen through an excellent keyboard and mouse/trackpad. Don't destroy these things in future iMacs.

    That first little Intel I-Mac has a CD-ROM drive on the side. Something the current I-Mac's don't have. Some of us still have software on CD's, like the software that comes with a printer/scanner, or a Wacom tablet, and some books come with CD-ROM's. That first Intel I-Mac is 17 inch, and that last Intel I-Mac is 27 inches. Both of them have that chin.

    Newer computers just aren't built to last like these older ones. Not to mention coming as an Apple certified Technician, They are impossible to do "Easy" Upgrades or repairs. Most require complete disassembly and Secuiry calibrations due to the T2 Chip and proprietary security software builtin. . Whereas the old machines could have every single component replaced without calibrating.
    Ahh the good old days..... @lukemiana, I personally just upgraded the 2006 20 inch iMac to 4gb Ram and a 512SSD. Full 1080P video. Its a beautiful thing.

      If Apple's latest devices are anything to go by with more, and more being soldered onto the mainboards, then I highly doubt it(I hope I'm wrong however), and the 3rd party repair program Apple is doing to get access to repair parts for machines at this point in time is BS, because if you sign up, and agree to the program, then they only let you order parts piecemeal, meaning if I had a repair business everytime a customer came in, and needed something done, it would be a 2 week wait for parts, instead of me being able to keep parts in stock, and have as little as a day, or less turnaround time for the customer, because once you sign that contract Apple legally forbids you from keeping a stockpile of parts of anything more than caps, and resistors. Louis Rossmann laid it all out as he was going to sign up for it, till he read the fine print.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 4 года назад

      @@guycottle559 It would not surprise me if they don't even offer a RAM upgrade, and it's more like their iPhones, where they say deal with it, and just buy a whole new system if you want any kind of upgrade whatsoever. Come to think of it, many makes of Chromebooks have sadly already gone this route with everything SMD to the mainboard, and have become paperweights after EOL support comes up, as many of them only have 16GB of flash storage, and installing any other OS on it become s real chore, and I sadly again have a feeling this is the route Apple is taking here(again hope I'm wrong), as it's just going to create tons more e-waste, unlike the 13in Macbook Pro Mid-2012 with the magsafe charger I got from my local recycle drop off a few weeks ago for free, and for less than $100 USD in upgrades/repair parts I was able to get working again on Catalina as my main laptop, and eventually Big Sur once It's out of Beta, and the unofficial install process is tested, and made easier.

    When people say Apple has raised its prices, they are not talking about the base models, but the mid, and higher end models, same with every product line Apple puts out, and a Max of 2GB of RAM was really bad back then, I have an AMD Athlon II X4 build from just a couple of years later on DDR2 800MHZ ram that has 8GB in it and I still use it with Manjaro Mate Linux for a media center PC, and lite Linux gaming in my game/family room.
