The sad thing is Kai Leng COULD have been a great character. And it wouldn't have taken much to do it. Just two changes would have made him better.
1) introduce him on Mars along with Eva, give him a few lines and have him knock out the virmire survivor and then get away after EVA gets taken out. This shows he is capable, gives shep a reason to have beef with him early on and sets him up as the illusive man's replacement for shep. This also lets the coup attempt be a face reveal instead of an intro, which still lets anderson give info about him afterwards, like he already does. So nothing important gets broken story-wise.
2) have the thessia fight be a real unwinnable fight instead of having Kai Leng win after losing to shep, or have the fight be a horde mode with him coming in with the gunship after the last wave and not bothering with shep in the first place, just blowing the whole place up and taking the prothean VI.
Boom. Character improved by leaps and bounds with zero effort.
But that's just my thoughts.
@@aarlavaan an alternate route would be to have him be incompetent but still a threat due to his heavy augmentation and determined due to his indoctrination. That would at least explain why he takes nothing but Ls but comes close at least a couple of times to not doing so.
But yeah I agree structurally your first idea is excellent, and I like the idea of him blowing the place up in the second one 'cause it avoids a direct confrontation with Shepard.

Written like a true fan with the insight and appreciation of a seasoned player but through such an absurdist format it really elevates the dialogue to legendary levels. Anderson has no business being elevated from Captain to 'Most Important Human Diplomat in the Galaxy' on Shepard's endorsement, and I say that as a ~90% Paragon-picker.
Udina's only crime was a bias towartd self-interest. He was wholly justified in the attempted coup, couldn't have known IM was indoctrinated, and ended up gettting the council to wake up to their reality. The only thing bioware did wrong was not allowing us to help him out, them cut him off from cerberus as a renegade.

Don’t usually mod ME too much but by far my favorite mod in the whole trilogy is the one that removes Kai Leng from the game entirely and replaces his model with a random Cerberus assassin. Literally improves the quality of the story by a few points when he doesn’t even exist

I would actually defend Harbinger a little, by saying that, other than the random destroyer on Rannoch, Harbinger is the ONLY reaper that fights Shepard directly. It takes 3 games to do it, but it finally is the one to blast the commander in their face; no proxy required. The counter to this would be to point out the dumbassery of flying away instead of making sure Shepard was dead. Reverse-counter, it's not Harbinger's fault Shepard has plot-armor thicker than a dreadnought's hull. Who in their right mind would suspect a single person of being able to tank a direct hit from the main gun of THE reaper capitol ship? Counter-reverse-counter, Shepard is the #1 enemy of all reapers, so Harbinger totally shoulda' double-tapped that shit. 😝

i actually really like tim, i think its very interesting to just watch him work since i can't really tell where his thoughts ends and his indoctrinated thoughts begin, he strikes me as a dude who would probably do most things he does in ME2 and to a lesser extent ME3 even if he wasn't indoctrinated but since his real thoughts are so close to his indoctrinated thoughts they are much easier for the reapers to twist without him realising. this also means that i have no problem shooting him in ME3 since i believe even without the reapers he is a bad dude but if you convince him he is indoctrinated he will take his own life which to me proves he was always working(or at least believed he was always working) for the benefit of humanity and not just himself. i just think he's neat not sure i like him as much as saren but its damn close.

In regards to Sidonis, I'd have to say F not just because of the loyalty factor but because unless I am mistaken he doesn't do anything once Garrus lets him go. He says he'll make his survival and Garrus' forgiveness mean something but if he does we never see it or hear of it. I think it would've been better if we saw him on Palaven or the Citadel fighting and sacrificing himself to save his squad and taking out several enemies. It would mean his survival was worth a damn and we could see one of Garrus' former squad members in action. As it stands alive or dead he impacts the story the same way. Which makes Garrus loyalty mission rather moot.
Dude reported his crimes to C-Sec, but there's a thing about how Omega is out of their jurisdiction, so it seems like he gave it a shot. A ME3 follow-up would have really been nice.
I like to believe that Sidonis helped Garrus family escape Palavan in ME3

I pick Dr. Michel over Dr. Chakwas as the Normandy medic in Mass Effect 3 most of the time. I do feel bad since Chakwas pretty much begs you to bring her back to the Normandy, but I just like Dr. Michel too much.

Bailey and his son issues with Thane's loyalty mission made me whisper "Call your son, man." Emily Wong never dies! Mods FTW. Biden was spittin' on Kei Leng. Vasir's boss fight was pretty decent and frustrating, she had a great dying line too. I added Ogrinn to this list as Bush Jr to God tier lol, you can fool a person 2x but can't, know, what fool again.

I know im late for this input and wanted to say that bioware missed the mark on the Catalyst, it should've been the squadmate you left behind on Vermire or romace option that died in ME 1 or 2. It would've had more Gravitas to the ending at least.
Marauder shields should've been beyond god tier because of the levels of meta they surpassed to keep you from seeing that wretched catalyst

I was actually really surprised with tela vasir. Not only a good character despite the little time spend with her but also probably the best one on one battle sheppard can have. Saren was challenging but not too bad, the cerberus clown was easily defeated and the shadow broker was really just a bullet spunge more than anything else.
The only fight I left out was benezia and that's because that fight was easily the worst one on one fight considering how much they hype the asari as a race, let alone benezia herself. This fight right here is how to do an asari fight.
Anderson deserves to be up there with Jenkins, the guy was a total chad.

I'm actually on Don's side with regards to Udina. Asari are the biggest hypocrites in the galaxy, all that talk about cooperation and diplomacy and they just drop you like a sack of spuds, with the Asari Councilor actually advocating letting Earth burn so that the Asari can save themselves. They refuse to attend the war summit, claiming that "the Asari have been down this road before" (so much for giving peace a chance) and STILL refuse to do anything UNTIL Thessia itself is under threat, only to reveal their government itself was in breach of galactic law by hiding Prothean relics. Priority Thessia would've never happened if they had just come clean with a LITERAL EXTINCTION EVENT occurring in the galaxy where the secrets of the Catalyst could've easily been buried.
Udina may be a political scumbag, but wresting control of the Council from both the Asari and Salarians (given the Dalatrass's actions, again, refusing to bury the hatchet when a literal extinction event is occurring) was the right move. When the fate of the galaxy itself is at stake, with entire civilizations under threat of extinction, you HAVE to take action when the people in power refuse to.
Post Mass Effect 3 should end with the Asari being completely stripped of all galactic authority and power, relegating them the a client species like the Volus. They did worse to the Quarians for less.
Kai Lang is also in the worst of the Mass Effect novels that no fan considers cannon as it breaks it multiple times, and he kills off the protagonist from the previous 2 novels. He also steals cereal from Captain Anderson's kitchen, and pisses into a pot while on sniper duty.

We see how Liara evolved as a person since your death, we're introduced to the dark side of the Spectres and, at least for some, their willingness to do heinous acts for convenient BUT accurate intel. AND you cant tell me the Shadow Broker being a Yahg wasn't an awesome introduction to a new species!

I highly agree that Sovereign should have been the leader of the Reaper attack on Earth, not Harbinger.
I dont know how they could've written it, cuz (real) Sovereign is in charge of bringing the Reapers to the galaxy, but they should've had Sovereign be a different Reaper than the one who dies in ME1. That way, the presence of Sovereign isnt replaced by a Reaper who doesnt have a personal vendetta against us (Harbinger)
