I always appreciate a drummer's reaction to Band-Maid. You really appreciate the subtleties and proficiencies of Akane's style of playing. Every hit/space has a purpose towards the whole dynamics of the song. She is a very special individual who's whole purpose is to service what's best for the song with the biggest smile that lights up an audience. This was also my favourite conversation between bass & guitar, until they raised the bar with what they played on Influencer from the Haneda show on Nov 25. Thanks for the reaction
Akane drumfills are like Vespas in Italian urban traffic: you think there isn’t the space at this speed, but then it just fits neatly like nothing happened.
Great reaction! Most first-time listeners to that "battle" get lost in the guitar/bass, forgetting about the drums. But you immediately recognized it as a trio, and dissected the drum fills. Excellent job. Btw, I noticed your Gurren Lagann poster. Dude, after Band-Maid, my next favorite Japanese musical artist is Shoko Nakagawa. So, right on!
You should check out the studio version too, that whole solo section is like an extended version of what happens in the song, so it's neat to see how she's kinda taken the original idea and developed it into a longer part that still has the same vibe
Also, realize that when Saiki 'drops the vocals' and points her mic at the audience, she also has Miku singing backing vocals, too. Miku Kobato is the band's pinch hitter, doing 'fill-in' duty in a variety of situations. Kanami will also chime in vocally on the "Oh-oh-oh-ohs".
Great reaction Man!!!! I always enjoy listenig to you and learning as well. When you understand what they are actually doing, it enhances the appreciation just a bit more, so thanks for that. You are very knowledgable and your ear is quite refined. I love it and thanks for the share. I just love these women - the best, most creative and skilled rock/metal band in the world today and along with Love Bites and Maximum Hormone that is quite the achievement!
Misa the bassist suffers from stage nerves and self-medicates with whiskey (she is not an alcoholic and is aware of the dangers -- there are other band members who drink more than her off-stage). She has been known to get slowly tipsy during a concert -- and the bass playing turns very mellow and her nerves loosen up.
Jim Beam- Misa (Bass) her drink of choice. Their solos are generally composed and stay with the drums. Kanami (Lead guitar) Just last week was attributed a Signature Guitar by PRS- First lady in the world and only ten in total. Great reaction yet again- Thanks (UK)
Thanks for highlighting how AKANE is providing the restrained drumming that perfectly complements the carefully constructed and rehearsed string interlude. Her drumming during the interlude in HATE? is also regrettably overlooked.
Akane is lightyears ahead of an average drummer. She's my all time favorite drummer. Thomas Lang and Kanade Sato are two other favorites of mine. Great reaction 👍
Get song and performance from Band-Maid! For Saiki to walk out onto the front walk way and get the crowd amped is especially cool to me, as she started out as a very shy girl and to be able to progress to the confidence level to do that is so impressive to me! The back and forth between Misa and Kanami is next level! Akane keeps everything together! No showing off with this band as there are no egos between the members at all, just serving the song!
Congratulations to finding out how fabulous our maids really are! I want to pass on a piece of advice on the idea of solos though. Even if they hadn't switched off, a good solo, which is to say impressive from the standpoint of musical ideas combined with technique, is not in fact boring even if several minutes long. It's all about the song - does the solo benefit the song? Band-Maid does literally EVERYTHING with the "song" as the number one consideration. Just one of many reasons they are so awesome.
The "battle" here is once again beautifully composed/arranged to fit into the song arrangement. It's almost a song itself in miniature. There's even a drop- down in intensity partway through to start building (but not too fast) the tension and then intensity. ETA: and a big part of this is how Akane is enhancing the progression on the drums.
One of the most insightful and fun reactions to this song I’ve heard. Well done 👍🏽 You’re actually the first person to bring up the turbo charged vocals. Saiki, for whatever reason, was determined to deliver this song at an extraordinary level this night.
Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid. A little tip bit Akane writes her music long hand even the symbols. If you really want to observe Akane at work go to Bandmaid Prime and check out the many videos.
MISA's bass is not beat up. She gets them with a "distressed" finish from the factory. Her signature model Black Smoker is made with crackled lacquer and scratches applied.
Don't You Tell Me! Oh, wait! You just did. 🤘😂Now, let me tell you something: Some say the Carolina Reaper is the hottest chili pepper with a Scoville Heat Index of 2.2 million. Nope! It's Band-Maid with a whopping 200 Million View index! 🌶🤘🎀 Thx, Frodo!
A suggestion: SAKI (and friends) - Tamashii (Gacharic Spin cover) with Senri Kawaguchi on drums. I'm not a drums guy, but somehow I can't take my ears off her in this song 😊
I see you already reacted to Band-Maid's HATE?. In that song, the call and response has MISA making the call and Kanami supplying the response, whereas here their roles are reversed and Kanami sets the challenge for MISA to repeat. Kanami's supreme compositional skills and all the band members' musicianship are just two of the reasons that Band-Maid really are THE best Hard Rock band on Earth! PS I isolated Akane's drums on both this song and on HATE? and recorded the breakdown clips with her drums set at 100% and the bass and guitars set at 20%. They're on my YT channel.
The guys are all in their 30's now, they give it 10/10ths rather than the 11/10ths they did in their 20's (as it was and is with any group you could name, ever). Akane seems to be using a looser, more relaxed grip, further back on the sticks than she used to - you should check out her work on recordings from 2020 or earlier, quite amazing stuff.
@@coversandcommentary I could be wrong and maybe Akane is using longer sticks? Whatever, the impression I get is that the band are cruising now, not pedal to the metal anymore (in no way whatsoever is that intended as criticism).
Nice reaction to my favourite band. All members are great. The main composer of most of their songs composes in such a way that allows the other members to amend and add to the original and lets them shine. As you play drums and liked Akane her is another amazing Japanese drummer. Mostly in the Jazz/Rock field. The Jim Beam belongs to Misa the Bassist. Known for her whiskey and beer consumption along with her amazing bass skills.
