This type of talk should be done on both sides of the aisle not just what is obvious.

Amazing talk, Dr. Lang! Thank you for your contributions to autism treatment, protecting those we care about.

Excellent talk. It's 4 years on, and one of the newest engines of pseudoscience is the proliferation of popular RUclips channels whose presenters declare themselves to be autistic -- often making their top selling point that they just learned it recently at age 32, or 47. They tell quite a moving account, but they often never get to the crucial question: were they diagnosed by a clinician, or did they self diagnose? It's as it that isn't an important distinction.
I have posted on some of their sites they any story of one's own condition _must_ include a verification that they were diagnosed by a medical professional, not by themselves, or a "spiritual adviser," or by taking a 5-question test. Such a documentation needs to be standard.

Yes i feel cringed to people who accused it with "pSeUdOsCiEnCe" term, why you only rely on the science that's in the mainstream side which is not 100% revealed, why don't you be CREATIVE, because creativity brings the idea, just like lightbulb by thomas a. edison, its all hypothesis until they can proof it, just like UFO or alien, after that you can just win the nobel prize. Dig down the ancient technology that has been existed for over 1 million years, time doesn't exist because all event happened in the same time. "Time is but stubborn illusion." - Albert Einstein. "The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence." - Nikola Tesla The Greatest Ascended Master of All Time.

Nothings ever proven or a fact because lots of people agreed. We made up the words we use to communicate and we made up everything we perceive and adapt it. Lots of humans agreeing that a spoon is a spoon is just nice feeling thing that adds to our own sense of sufficiency and meaning in our existence.. whether it’s because knowing the word spoon is practical to our existence or whatever but it’s still made up. Believing that anything is more valid because someone else agrees can never have any truth and there’s a beauty I personally find in believing a feeling inside myself that is my own. It’s all valid and equally has no validity x

Great video. Thank you for posting. I work with individuals with ASD and one of the parents of my client asked about weighted blankets as a therapy. I typed in the RUclips search "autism and pseudoscience" and this talk came up. It is very helpful.

Hey there, I have aspergers/autism and I hate weighted blankets. They make me feel like I'm in a straight jacket. On the other hand, my mother who is also autistic loves them. I think it's down to personal preference more than anything.

Lack of scientific studies does not make something false. It’s important to understand what motivates what we do and do not study, including the ability to streamline studies for certain things. Effective treatments may also be harmful when used inappropriately. Evidence based practice is not the end all be all, and has certainly not favored somatic approaches.

Very interesting video. It brought to mind trump's constant repeating of "everyone knows" whatever he is lying about to be true. I do believe that the notion that if 'everyone' believes something, then there must be some validity to that something. Some of us have never considered popularity of a belief to be the proof of the validity of that belief and I think Dr Lang explains that very well.
