  • In this video, I discuss different options for your 5th Gen 4Runners headlights. Are new housings worth the cost? It depends on your build and what you want out of it. I will go over what I chose and why, followed by an unboxing, installation, and review with before and after images.

    Best mod, I had them in my 2017 Highlander limited and when I traded it I installed them in my 2020 4Runner limited. The install
    on the driver side is a little more challenging if you have big hands, use a milk crate to give you more height and a better view. Before you close the dust cover turn on the light if it doesn’t turn on flip the plug and it will turn on.

    Headlights will be one of the last upgrades I do to my truck. The stock lights are modern enough and are actually quite bright. Replacing my head unit is also at the bottom of the list. I don't wanna lose the tactile buttons on the sides of the screen, I prefer physical buttons over touch screens for controlling things, also the big chunky knobs are like that for a reason and I like them. I think it's kind of silly how so many people want these head unit upgrades when we've all got smartphones that can do everything the fancy head units can do and more, and can be mounted right there on the dash. You can also mount a tablet and use it for navigation, videos, vehicle diagnostics and more. The stock radio works just fine for me 😅, I just use it for SXM anyway.

    I like your practical approach to mods, especially concerning the headlights. I have a 2015 4Runner Limited and have done a few minor mods (raptor lights with relay and OEM style dash switch, interior LED bulb replacements, puddle light LED replacements, engine bay LED lights, leveling platform for cargo area for sleeping, etc.). Plus I do virtually all of my own preventive maintenance. Your videos have been a big help! Nothing too fancy done for overlanding as of yet. But I do go down a lot of very sandy roads while hunting for arrowheads and quail hunting, and have never come close to getting stuck. These Lasfit Pros look like the right ticket for me. Just wondered if you had issues with dust and dirt getting inside the vented dust cap? Also, any issues with oncoming drivers flashing their brights at you? Thanks, and keep up the good work!

      Okay, I just installed the Lasfit Pro-T4-H11 low beam LED bulbs in my 2015 4Runner Limited and they work great. Much brighter as I did a side by side comparison with one LED installed and one factory halogen installed and shining against the garage door at dusk. I made sure the cutoff line was the same for both, and then installled the other LED and the cutoff line is the same for it as well. It took about an hour as I had to remove the battery to install the driver's side LED. Neither side was what I would call easy as you really have to press in hard on the LED before you can twist it in place. The dust covers were just about as tricky to get on, but the job is now done and they are so much brighter, I really like them!

    I replaced my low beams with Sealight Xenowar X2 on my 2020 4Runner. For high beams I chose the Xenondepot LED's with the DRL driver, gives you a very bright high beam and the DRL driver reduces output for the daytime running lights.

    For the same price range on the upgrade option, purchase a newer set of used Toyota OEM LED headlights (MY: 2020 - 2021, 22 ~ newer you will need to modify the connector) . The light output and aesthetics are great at night. I had HIDs in my 2016 stock halogen headlights and I can say the upgrade is way better and light output is great. The only downfall to this upgrade is finding a set for a good price.

    The question I have is how much light does it throw "down the road"? I've seen some LEDs that look super bright when you look at them (like your off-road shots) but don't produce as much light onto the road as the stock halogens.

    • @T4Rgarage
      @T4Rgarage  Год назад +5

      They are designed for the housing so they sit in the correct position and seem to work much better than stock. Since they are so bright they do produce a lot of light in front of the 4Runner which can make the light down the road appear not as bright but it is definitely throwing much more light than stock down the road. Hope that makes sense

    The problem with changing the housing is none of them are made to OEM quality and I have seen videos of some of these aftermarket housings UV coating pealing off. I think upgrading the bulbs is a better solution. I went with VLEDS for my 2023 Tacoma SR. The VLEDS are very good. Don't get caught up in the who has the highest lumens game, Here is a video from KC off-road lights that explains how these terms of light output work and what they mean. ruclips.net/video/QQsfuYSAQBI/видео.html Here is a video of my VLEDS low beams. ruclips.net/video/gff-QEj0QKM/видео.html

    The halogen bulbs in the 4Runner have a purpose and a function, don't be so quick to swap them out! LED bulbs don't produce enough heat to defrost the light housing when your overlanding.

      On my old ride, I swapped for LEDs and I had the same problem in snow/sleet they would ice up bad. Best option is to upgrade the halogen bulbs with a small tab trim on bulbs that put out more light. The reason the lights suck are because manufacturers go for longevity rather than output with halogen bulbs. They use low output bulbs so they last longer and less maintenance.
