    I just want to share my experience in case it helps someone else out there who is having problems with their GE dishwasher. My dishwasher was not working and when I tried to hit the Start button it gave me the open door warning.
    I looked at my manual and there is a Consumer Error Mode which you can enter by holding the "Cycle Select" and "Start" button together for 5 seconds. If all of your lights blink then it means that it's interpreting that your door is open which it did even though my door was closed. I assumed from there that my latch was messed up which brought me to this video. I decided to clean the door latch and then I turned off the power to the dishwasher from my circuit breaker and left it off for 5 minutes. After I turned it on everything works again.
    I can't say that this will solve the problem for you but it worked for me and it's a good first step for you to try before you start replacing things and taking things apart. Good luck!

  • @DensterNY
    @DensterNY 2 года назад +8

    I just wanted to follow up on my previous comment and suggestion about turning the breaker on and off to your dishwasher to clear the error codes. It has been 6 months since then and I have had a lot of problems with this dishwasher. I have replaced the latch and also the control circuit board because I kept getting the open door error codes but I realize now that I probably didn't have to replace either.
    There is something in this machine which randomly triggers an open door signal to the sensor and board. I don't know if it's a capacitor that is holding on a charge or something but sometimes you'll have to leave the circuit breaker to the dishwasher off for a while before the open door signal will clear. I had problems and got tired off dealing with it last night and left the circuit breaker off and went to sleep. I got up this morning and it's working just fine.

      My dishwasher stopped working randomly for the door latch code. I had washed dishes for 2 months and then randomly it started working. It’s been 3 months and now it’s doing it again. So your telling me it’s just a motherboard error that needs to a hard reset for possibly a couple hours?

    • @DensterNY
      @DensterNY 2 года назад +1

      @@joshlitman8310 Yeah, also what you can do is hold the cycle select and start button which puts the dishwasher into consumer error mode, then exit and power off the breaker for a bit. I've had to do this two dozen times since the dishwasher started acting up 6 or 7 months ago.

    So based on the dishwasher's on-board diagnostic function, the door wasn't closed (even though it was), keeping the dishwasher from starting. RepairClinic.com Yeah, I should've pulled the door switch and checked for continuity before assuming the switch was bad. The next step in the process was to look at the green LED on the control board and watching its behavior. Unfortunately, my model's board is hidden by a metal panel blocking visibility of the board and LED, requiring me to pull the dishwasher so as to uncover the control board for further diagnostics. Thank you for the link and advice. I'll do a little more research on my end before ordering parts.

Held down the select cycle/start buttons for 5 seconds; the circuit breaker works, and there is power to the damned machine! Really wish you would have started with the symptoms that would warrant this repair. My dishwasher has no power to the front panel but I cant remember if it had to be closed for the panel to turn on or not. If the door needs to be closed for power to go to the front panel the door latch might be my problem. If the panel should have power regardless of the door position I likely have another problem. And for all those saying this is too many steps to replace the switch, you're wrong. 90% of the steps listed are just to be able to pull the unit away from the counter which is necessary.

    • @dan4091
      @dan4091 4 года назад

      Yes, the door needs to be closed to get power to the touch display panel. If that's your issue most likely causes are a misaligned latch strike on the door or maybe a bad latch. One way to test the latch with the door open is to insert a small screwdriver into the latch to engage it, then see if the touch panel responds, if it does then the latch is good and you have an alignment issue, if it doesn't then you may have a bad latch.

      I finally solved this same problem by going under my sink, unplugging the dishwasher for a minute, then plugging it back in. I left the door closed the whole time, and pressed the Start button for a few seconds while it was unplugged to make sure power was drained. When I plugged the dishwasher back in, it worked first try. I had previously tried flipping the circuit breaker, which didn't work.

      Wrong, theirs generally always enough slack in dishwasher drain and electrical romex that just removing the two counter top screws out of brackets would allow for dishwasher to slide out 2 inches or so. And most dishwashers these days have a lengthy water supply line, so that's not a issue either

    As a professional mechanical contractor you never use channel locks on compression fittings or brass fittings. You always use the right tool for the right job. That can ruin the fitting. If you don't have a crescent wrench then find a open-end wrench. I have other comments but I'm not going to go into details.

    • @daveshilling2673
      @daveshilling2673 3 года назад

      Do mechanics install dishwashers often? I would love to watch you use an open end wrench to tighten your garden hose lol

    • @timcolby8874
      @timcolby8874 3 года назад +1

      Evidently you do not know what a mechanical contractor is. We are not auto mechanics we are union pipefitters and welders. And actually a lot of garden hoses today have a multi flat surface so you can use a open-end wrench to tighten it if necessary. But being that there is a rubber washer inside a garden hose you should not have to use a pair of pliers, channel locks or a pipe wrench to tighten it to stop it from leaking.

    • @daveshilling2673
      @daveshilling2673 3 года назад

      @@timcolby8874 evidently, I don't. I assume its not common knowledge. In the video, you can clearly see a round, knurled fitting, no flats to accommodate a wrench. A toothed tool that can grab knurling is the most likely tool a homeowner will own. a pro isn't watching RUclips for help. so what tool should a homeowner use then?

    • @timcolby8874
      @timcolby8874 3 года назад

      Inlet water pipe on most of the dishwashers that I have done for my family members at least for the Bosch dishwashers. All my original comment was as use the right tool for the right job. It's just like people who try to tighten the garden hose on a hose bib and it still leaks because they did not change out the rubber gasket or there was no rubber gasket to begin with. Again I am a retired Union mechanical contractor pipefitter welder. In the city of Chicago we have certain criteria that we have to follow / Chicago code. You cannot use soft refrigerant lines in a commercial building to hook up air conditioning and Refrigeration. Everything has to be done in hard copper. It's a big difference in the big cities versus the small towns or small appliances. Thank you. I wish you continued success
