One very, very interesting detail that I only found out tonight after practically decades of listening to this song and album is that this version of the song here is slightly different (and better) than the original. The video is of course the same, but this song version is the one that appears in the Forever Failure single, and the thing that makes it so damn good is that it has some extra synth parts that make it darker and far more atmospheric. I always thought there was something missing from the original as I was accustomed to this, and tonight I found out what it was...
I never got into the depression and sadness that is Paradise Lost. Many of my friends would listen to Paradise Lost, Tiamat and so on. I never, ever could get through one album in one sitting. I came to admit that's not my kind of metal. But I do understand why people like it and the fact that this is one hugely talented band.

Paradise Lost é dessas bandas únicas - amorfa e atemporal. Uma personalidade sonora - ou melhor, uma experiência por disco, música, acordes e letras... Saudades de quando as bandas tinham substância e não apenas pose.
Excelente comentário. Eles tiveram um hiato estranho e fora da essência vamos dizer assim... porém os últimos registros voltaram a mesma idéia. O mesmo não aconteceu com o Katatonia que ficou apenas com os 2, 3 primeiros.

Algumas bandas mudaram totalmente após esse período mais exótico, digamos assim, como o Anathema e Katatonia. Por outro lado, adoro quando bandas exploram outras sonoridades e texturas. O disco Host do Paradise Lost está entre os meus favoritos.

this song makes me think of children that might be emotionally neglected at a young and vulnerable age, by someone who has no right to take a safe and innocent place away from a child. 😇. it is a nice song though, they're all good on this album
Forever Failure / over the Madness. Can not decide which song has the higher emotional intensity for me. Goosebumps each time I hear the Songs. My compliments to mr Aedy. Forever a PL fan.
First saw these guys supporting Sepultura in Glasgow in December 1993, Icon had just come out and I was the only person at the gig wearing a PL shirt. I got asked by someone in the queue waiting to get in 'What they like?', I said they are a doom band from Yorkshire, to say the thrash fans there weren't sure was an understatement. Then they came out and belted out most of Icon and a few off Shades of God, they got a lot of new fans that night in Scotland!
@@andyOsalek doom metal was pretty niche in the UK back then, thrash and death metal were much more popular. Don't get me wrong bands like Anathema and My Dying Bride were reasonably well supported but Icon really opened the doors for PL in the UK.

Intetesting. By the timer icon was released they were very big in Poland already. Not as big as sepultura but still all metal heads knew them
