As a guitar player, it was very entertaining watching this man struggle.
Honestly a great song, nice job for your first time!!!
He also discovered the prog rock circlejerk that is finger tapping lmao
You found the major scale, a lot of guitar players can't do that on their own without being taught I think you got this
He just said he already did music theory
Do more mallet percussion videos please, your marimba skills are under appreciated 😔😔😔
Yes agreed!
That wasn't terrible, actually quite good for first time playing. I think your music background made a big difference and I thought you picked it up really quickly. Well done.
Tone knobs are low pass filters. At "10", you are getting the full signal passing from your volume knob to the output jack. As you turn the knob lower, more high frequency content is filtered out, giving you a darker/warmer sounding signal.
I'm guessing it's from 10-1Khz, and there's two lowpasses because of the two knobs?
@@lio1234234 not exactly, the numbers 1-10 are totally arbitrary. They just give you an indication of the amount that the highs are getting attenuated.
The two knobs are for separate pickups. Traditional stratocasters are wired so that one tone knob is for the neck pickup, one is for the middle pickup, and then the bridge pickup has no tone control.
Lad getting a little crazy.
I’m a trombonist/euphonium player who picked up bass guitar. Rhythms and pitches were something I was able to pick up pretty quickly, but finding a good setup, as well as the ideal sound is still a work in progress. Best of luck!
Same bro except I main euph
@Owen Beechler well I went to this channel bc I joined winter drumline (not on bass btw)
I’m a trombonist who picked up bass guitar and I’m liking it so far
@@Billsbees7372 nice man! I got a steal on a Fender jazz bass so I’ve been playing it for a while.
I am a trombone player as well. I don’t like playing fast Latin jazz tunes on 1st trombone. I like trombone on slow songs 😀
I think hearing Eric write a love song with the saxophone would just be really funny
I love that part of the video where you accidentally played a Bbdim7 chord after you played an A chord, a very jazzy thing to do.
"Oh my God. Where did I put that pick?" HE'S LEARNING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A GUITAR PLAYER!
As a guitarist, seeing the guitar slide while set against the chair at 0:22 made me hope for dear mercy.
Every guitarist must lean their guitar against a spinny chair at least once. It's painful but it's the only way to learn.
The tone knobs add "brightness" or treble to your sound. Most players will leave this at 10, but jazz players will roll it back to maybe 2 or 3 for a darker sound. First knob controls the neck pickup (closest to the frets) and the second controls the middle pickup. The bridge pickup will naturally be twangy and bright (especially on a Strat body like this one) so there's no tone controls.
Video #5 of asking for the Carrmen Heights bassline character reveal
Tone knobs don't add treble, just like volume knobs don't add volume. All knobs at 10 is the neutral setting. Turning the tone down cuts high frequencies.
The original Strat didn't have a tone control for the bridge pickup (which is a bit strange, considering that the bridge single coil is really bright, and a tone knob would definitely be useful for cutting some of that high end). But in more modern Strats, the lower tone knob controls both middle and bridge pickups.
This particular model has a bridge humbucker, which also helps with taming the brightness of the bridge position.
Your pronunciation of "capo" was flawless. Capo comes from the italian word "capotasto", literally "head fret", and since I'm italian I can assure you pronounced that right
Or Cuhpoo as Jarred Dines says.
I have been playing for 20 years and let me just say you pick things up a lot quicker than me. It probably took me 6 months to sound like you after an hour. I didn't start with a master's degree in music though.
Now THIS is the music I want to hear!
I was looking for your comment! Maybe he could play with Cody? Does he play guitar, too?
@@RedDogMamaHD Cody plays bass. He’s very talented.
Wow that song at the end was amazing! I really think "Let's Go" Should be your channel's main theme
As a guitar player who enjoys your channel, this was a really fun watch
The fact that you played bleed by going up and down the fretboard instead of bending the note is hilarious to me. You can push or pull the string along a fret increasing the tension therefore raising the pitch of the note. Great job as a beginner, alot better then most would do.
You’re better at guitar in one video than I was for 3 months
So much stuff. it is like a Donner Party.
The only thing that could make this crazier would be cannibalism.
@@BobbySacamano 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Ha! Great first attempt. I have a "Lead Guitar for Drummers" video on my to do list just for you!
This is so awesome!!! I was 13, the lead singer was 21! 2001, in my first rock band! I played drums then. Loved it. Marched through school, but instead of continuing marching; took a stab at rockin. Switched over to guitar when I was 16. Played for years as an actual living, until real life arrives lol. Played on some very big stages though. So much fun
I feel he'd be better with a Bass! More percussive and Rythm based
As a percussionist in College music ed I have been dreading learning guitar because I feel like I just won't be able to do it. Watching this however and seeing you learn it gives me hope/motivation to learn guitar! Thank You EMC
Mad respect for rising to the challenge and learning some melodies and making a song.
leave it to an amazing drummer to invent tapping by himself 15 minutes after grabbing his first guitar!
Seeing you jump straight into arpeggios for your first song is pretty impressive
Eric, much Love and respect four your service videos and Channel. We have a close similar background , High school / College and DCI drum lines. I picked up guitar and have been playing for years. Im impressed with your abilities!!!! Keep up the great work in all you do!!!!
Let's Go
Eric Michael Carr
Here we go
People tell me watch out; then they clock out
Checking up on my skill for a lack of thrill and then they want some
Acting like they know me, knocking on an old tree
Feeding it facts with a lack of class for just a small fee
The business, we in it, just like we always did it
I'm flipping, you dripping, sayin' we like men and women
Acting like a fool, just like a tool you never want to know
Get up and get that fuel
Let's GOOOOO
Let's GOOOOO
Let's **GOOOOO**
*death metal hiss sound*
Let's go
Get up
Right now
You want it, you need
You know
I know
Hey, let's go
Here I am, back again, looking at my friends and
Never in my life have I even tried to pretend that
We were glad, you were mad and everyone else was super sad
One time, two time, 30 44, when you come back in and then you say you want some more
for the road, I don't know when we're going to the show
Get your butt up and move those feet, Let's GOOOOO
Let's GOOOOO
Let's **GOOOOO**
*death metal hiss sound*
Let's go
Get up
Right now
You want it, you need
You know
I know
Hey, let's go
Thanks for posting the lyrics! 😍
Need to add a bridge and repeat the let’s go part two times at the end then you would have a real banger. The form is a little short and you can do a cool twist of the meaning in the bridge. Cool song.
**liner notes have entered the chat**
*death metal hiss sound*
as a fellow convert from drumline to guitar for almost two years, that wasn’t bad! learning the essential chords is key, but just wait until you unlock the secret to power chords. it’ll change your world
8:21 wow he played “electronic slight of hand” by buckethead perfectly!!
I never thought I’d see the day where EMC plays guitar lol. Anyways lemme tell you I’ve been playing for eleven years as well as percussion and trust me the knowledge of note value and rhythms from drums will be your best friend for writing songs on guitar. I learned Bleed by Meshuggah at 17 and my picking hand STILL hurts
the singer pose of squatting down really far was bang on.
Top tone knob neck pickup
Bottom tone knob bridge pickup
Switch top position neck only
Switch middle position both pickups
Switch bottom position bridge only
Increase tone knobs - more treble
Decrease tone knob - more bass
Great work for your first string instrument! I started strings on upright bass and that was soooo fun! I play it in college now along with percussion!
"I got lost in the sauce, screw it Ill just figure it out" is so relatable as another person learning guitar non-seriously
Tone knob does what it says on the tin. It adjusts resistance in the pickup signal. Basically effecta the brightness of the output signal to the amp. More noticeable on a distorted signal.
This was honestly impressive for a first ever time on guitar
This is by far and away, your most entertaining video. Keep it up!
This video is great! I am going to take a beginner guitar course later next month and I am looking forward to it. I have an interest in learning how to play the guitar for a very long time, ever since freshman year of high school and I never got the chance to learn how to play the guitar back then. It will be a struggle, but I am really looking forward to start playing the guitar very soon!
Pretty cool and your song actually came out really nicely :). I enjoyed thanks for sharing
Why this man doesn't have a million subscribers is beyond me! Let's get this guy to a million!
As a guitar player I enjoyed this video so much! Very fun to watch someone start out on guitar!
Donner makes a Banjo too! Ask them to send you one! My first banjo was a Donner and I loved it!
Lol, this should be a new series on your channel!!! Eric tries.....oboe....only because they say it's the hardest but I found it relatively easy compared to buzzing my lips, or carrying more than one rhythm at a time without tensing up and synching both hands
I almost passed out during my oboe test. And I sounded like I was killing a duck.
5:49 I love how the bar moves back on the guitar tabs when you messed up
You are unironically better than a few "guitarists" I know. They claim to have been playing for x amount of years and can't play some of the songs you played better - notably ice cream man. I don't know if that means you're really good or there's a load of phonies afoot, but it'd be cooler if it was the former. You definitely sounded better than me when I first started.
Oh yeah and when you see slurs it means you don't pick any of the notes after the first one, you just kinda hit that fret or take off a finger. and when you see the glissando it means to slide. And play bass next.
This has been a very special video. Good job!
Truly proud of you, dude. For a first try, you did awesome!
5:06 i love the 6th in the A chord (F#)
Tone knobs divert higher frequency signals to ground. The lower you turn it, the less high frequency signals you send to the amp. Strat style guitars have two tone knobs because one controls the middle and neck pickup signals and the other controls the bridge pickup. You should check out Dylan Talks Tone if you really want to understand how guitar electronics work. Semper Fi.
hard work and determination will lead you to being able to play any song you want brotha
This is a good song for just picking up guitar. Ive been playing for half my life and this sounds good to me. Im impressed. Also do one with bass next
The tone knob basically controls the amount of treble in the sound: turn it up for a brighter sound, down for a darker sound. There are two tone knobs because one is for the neck pickup and one is for the middle pickup.
I play mellophone in my colleges marching band and I also play banjo for fun and guitar and bass for my church. I’m glad to see you trying new instruments
I'm a guitar player and that wasn't bad and it was entertaining watching you struggle to figure it out, brings back memories of when I first started playing and struggling to sound good
Haha nice. As a drummer myself I also tried guitar so I know the struggle lol. What I can say though is that it's a great outlet for non serious playing. Like drums are my main instrument, but sometimes I dick around on guitar for fun and it helps
The knobs are Treble, Bass, and Mid. Sometimes instead of mid it’s just volume
Tone knobs basically control Bass versus Treble.
Higher Tone= More Mids/Treble
Lower Tone= More Bassiness
and they correlate to the pickups
Good job man. The song was fire. Also it would be the saxophone I would like to see you attempt next.
That chord summary should also really show which strings to strum and which ones to skip.
For that chart, only strum all 6 strings for the E, F and G chords. For the A, B and C chords only strum the bottom 5 strings. For the D chords, only strum the bottom 4. That will make those chords sound _a lot_ better.
Awesome job for the first time, though, and pretty entertaining to watch.
This guy is a legend!
You are actually very good for being brand new to guitar. You are much better than me than when I first started.
my friend started playing bass like you did with the guitar, its fking awesome you should try it , bigger string and less of them , very good to tap on
This was really fun to watch!
He discovered tapping! He needs a lap steel guitar! Eric, go buy a cheap lap steel guitar (you can also build one) and play it. I think you’ll like it. You can add all the percussive elements you want to it by slapping the guitar as well.
Guitar is my main instrument, and watching this reminds me of when I first started (especially sweet child of mine lol). You’re doing great for day 1
Hahaha that tapping out of ‘Bleed’ was absolutely fantastic
The tonenobs depend on what pickup you’re on. And by the way great video
You did a good job on you're first time keep it up
I'm proud of you using your left little finger! Try to keep your thumb close to the middle of the neck to allow your fingers to reach over strings without choking them.
I think learning bass guitar next is probably the most ideal, then you can have your own full rock band!
Pretty darn good for a first attempt! Your posture and stance are good, and you've positioned the guitar like classical players would, between your legs. In your left hand, try to maintain a wrist angle with minimal break or strain, and concentrate on keeping your thumb positioned in the center of the neck and applying pressure directly downwards on the pads of your fingertips, as if you're pinching a bug between your thumb and your fingers. In your right hand, concentrate on moving laterally with your wrist rather than rotating axially around your wrist (kind of counter-intuitive if you're used to Stevens Grip on marimba, I admit).
If you're into "touch-style" players, you would probably dig Stanley Jordan as well as Colin Marston from Krallice and Behold The Arctopus. Just like drum corps, practice with the met, start slow and work up to tempo, and pay attention to your body to eliminate points of tension and stress in your technique! You have a great foundation in theory- the mechanics of a new instrument will come quickly to you!
the top nob is to make the top three strings higher or lower ( probably till 1:57 -2:05 ) and the bottom does the same thing as that but for the bottom three strings.
Quick tip, thumb should follow middle finger, like you’re pinching them together. It will help lift your hand/fingers off the fret board and strings.
as an guitarist and a drummer at the same time. I can't relate how I play the guitar for the first time when I was young In 2013. Now I relearned the guitar at around 2015 until now. Got my first electric guitar in 2018, Until I learned about drop tunings that sound look easy than standard tuning.
Tips for beginner guitarists here: NEVER lose the guitar pick and the guitar jack. Learn some songs by ear and use a guitar tuner also, It could help you tune your guitar in tune and play one of your favorite songs until you'll get it. you should NEVER give up, Dudes!
The tone knob adjusts the emphasis on each note
Bro keep playing man In time you’ll be awesome dude you know how it works
@Text me on telegram@EMCproductions yes sir!!!
The first song with the lyrics starting with the letters of the chords was pretty fun. You definitely deserve fudge.
Putting a wrist sweatband or something else like it to muffle the strings near the 1st fret will make tapping a lot easier. It muffles all the other notes you aren't trying to actively tap.
Put that song on Spotify please
As a guitar player, I shall say you were preety okay for a beginner!
Guitar player here, the tone knobs are for the middle and neck pickups
Somebody send this guy a bass guitar. STAT!!!
Just ask Davie504.
The tone knobs make the sound of the guitar flatter or thicker the switch selects Whitehall pickup you want to hear
Well done, Eric! You picked up the basics pretty fast due to your musical background. Perhaps you should hook up with Two Set Violin and try to learn the violin next. 🙂
The blade switch is the pick-up selector (the pickups are those bars on the body which contain magnets that are activated by the vibrations of the strings). Different pickups give different tone. If it's a six way pickup all the way up is the neck pickup, next down is neck and middle pickup, middle is middle pickup, second from down is mid and bridge pickup, and all the way down is bridge pickup. Best to just use neck pickup for now as it has the most mellow of tone by itself. Bridge pickup is the brightest tone. The tone knobs correspond to the different pickups. The documentation might tell you which ones, or you can experiment. Usually the top tone will be with the neck pickup.
Oh, you've featured songsterr :D
Good site to learn songs, also good for drummers :)
(Just second guess every tab or listen to the actual song to compare)
Tones only do a slight difference in sound, but a big difference in sound at the same time!
8:23 genuinely sounds good.
Good morning! I have a video idea for you where you should make a set of tenors out of snare drums. It would be epic!
Love the content
Volume controls volume and how much gain you get. If you have a distorted tone, it will start to get cleaner as you turn down the guitar volume knob
Tone: controls how dark or how bright the sound is (two of them I don’t know how that works)
I was not expect emc style nu metal but hey. if he did a video for vocals and bass too, I'd buy the ep
That song wasn't terrible - probably better than what I could write. Small point - the song you start playing at 6:53 is a bass tab - that's why it's in bass clef and there are only four lines, for a standard four string bass. You were playing on the upper strings of the guitar DGBE, when it should have been the lower four, EADG.
I know how you feel, I just got a new guitar, and Im trying to learn it
Sick video!
I’d love to see you play bass. As a drummer I could pick it up and play songs on day 1. It is a much easier instrument to play with no background in string instruments.
Eric doing sweeps with his hands was not something I knew I needed to experience
That was pretty ePic, eRic. I'm glad you tuned it, eventually.
