We left hospitals to avoid poisoning ( chemo) and cuting off the parts of my wife's body- crippling her permanently without any assurance anyway . We are in peace and left all in the hands of our Lord. After all we all must get home. Godbless you and your mom.

If St. Paul can correct St. Peter "to his face", a Cardinal (or anyone else for that manner) should be able to correct an erring Pope.

    • @jmj.thomas
      @jmj.thomas 11 месяцев назад +20

      Amen, brother.
One important distinction to make is that Pope St. Peter wasn't authentically and authoritatively excerising his office as Shepard of the Universal Church when he was corrected by St. Paul. Instead, I believe he was 'caving in' to Jewish customs in his local diocese.
Nowadays, we see a lot of "St. Pauls" trying to correct "St. Peter" in official, magisterial documents like Amoris Laetitia, which I believe is a big no-no.
If St. Peter, or any Pope, formally attempted to teach error and compel the Universal Church to submit to such teaching, the Holy Spirit would not allow it. Our Lord prayed for St. Peter that his "faith may not fail" . Attempting to formally define error would quality as a "failed faith".

      @tflics 11 месяцев назад

@@edwinkubena9944 Pope Francis is probably not the greatest pope we have had in the last two thousand years or so. But to be clear, he is absolutely not the worst, either. In fact, compared to most of the "bad ones," Pope Francis is, even by the standards of his most uncharitable critics, not even in the same league as someone like, say, Sergius III.
I would caution anyone against labeling Pope Francis a false pope for two reasons:
First, we have neither the competence nor the authority to make that determination. We were not privy to the goings-on of the last conclave. We do not know if the conditions for determining whether a pope is false have been met. In fact, we do not even know what those conditions are.
Second, the temptation to reject his authority surely comes from the evil one. The many "traditionalist" groups that exist today are a testament to the dangers of appointing oneself as an arbiter of papal legitimacy. Many schismatics reject the papacies of John XXIII, and as a natural consequence of that, must also reject the papacies of Paul VI, JP1, JP2, BXVI, and Francis. Do you want to start down that route? An antipope is a pretender who has assumed that office illegitimately. It is NOT a pope who believes ridiculous things, nor is it a pope who lives an immoral lifestyle. It is NOT a pope who disregards the welfare of his flock. Assuming the office of the papacy falsely is completely different from not liking the disciplinary, political, and theological views that a particular pope seems to embrace.

Now it’s simply upto each one of us to be right before God personally. All the rest, is not our business. He’s in charge and will bring greater Good from all our evil. He will guard and watch over his faithful shepherds like Burke too. I’m confident and I hope we can persevere no matter what more scandal we will see in our lifetime.🙏🏼

Francis is a great compass for Catholics: whatever his position is on a subject, do the exact opposite and you’ll be a good Christian.
Francis abusing his religious position to serve his political views made me realize that religion shouldn’t be this hierarchical and is better off decentralized.
My family is 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Spanish and therefore very Catholic. I’ve made relatives mad in the last decade for criticizing the man (and not the position) but today even my 96 years old nonna admits he is a force of evil.

Really? For instance this? "In today’s world, voices are being raised which we cannot ignore and which implore our Churches to live deeply our identity as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. The first of these voices is that of the poor. In the world, there are too many women and men who suffer from severe malnutrition, growing unemployment, the rising numbers of unemployed youth, and from increasing social exclusion. These can give rise to criminal activity and even the recruitment of terrorists. We cannot remain indifferent before the cries of our brothers and sisters. "
Do the opposite of that, and you may find your everlasting destiny may not be the place you presume it to be.

Formal hæresy isn't contingent upon trial and judgement by the Church. Formal hæresy could be private and interior. Formal hæresy is more than material hæresy in that in involves subjective guilt in addition to objectively hæretical matter.
Nor is manifest hæresy necessarily contingent upon an ecclesial judgement. If a priest came out one day denying the doctrines of justification, eternal punishment, the Immaculate Conception, the uniqueness and unity of the Church, changed the doctrine on capital punishment, referred to transvestites by their preferred pronouns, promoted homosexual civil unions, disrespected the Traditional Roman rite and its associated theology, claimed that atheists would or could go to heaven, participated in non-Catholic worship, claimed that God wills plurality of religions, and that proselytism is sinful, or espoused theistic communism; the hæresy would be manifest.

The example of Pope John XXII does not work because his belief on the Beatific Vision was just that of a private individual. When he spoke of his erring belief in public it was only to local congregations via sermons as the Bishop of Rome, not in his magisterial capacity as the Universal Pontiff. He made it expressly clear in his writings that it was his private belief and that in no way was he trying to impose it on the faithful. But with regards to the issue of heresy, it’s ultimately a moot point because the correct understanding of the Beatific Vision was not even declared a dogma until after he died.

Pope John XXII had not spoken in ex-cathedra language, hasn't directed his personal opinion to the whole Church. This is not the same ballpark. The issue has not yet been settled, because whole ordeal happened before apostolic constitution Benedictus Deus
On the Beatific Vision of God has been directed to the whole Church (1334) by Pope Benedict XII.
    This is completely moot point.
From the other hand, Catholic dogma with regard to the General Judgment: the Resurrection of the Body has been already settled, and frankly explained in CREDO... but no-one was correcting Benedict XVI while he published his heretical statements regarding this:
Benedict XVI, Introduction to Christianity, 2004, p. 349: “It now becomes clear that the real heart of faith in the resurrection does not consist at all in the idea of the restoration of bodies, to which we have reduced it in our thinking; such is the case even though this is the pictorial image used throughout the Bible.”
Benedict XVI, Introduction to Christianity, 2004, pp. 357-358: “To recapitulate, Paul teaches, not the resurrection of physical bodies, but the resurrection of persons…”
Not in charity, nor in justice, Benedict XVI hasn't retracted this, among many other manifested heresies before his death. He taught them, he manifested them, and lived them. He was never a Pope.

John XXII was speaking as a private theologian in that istance, so the case isn't analogous because pope francis magisterium - not only his private persona - is constantly criticized (including by cardinal Burke). And pope Honorious wasn't really an heretic, since latin christians always denied that but even if he was, he can be judged only by a successor pontiff as the 8th ecumenical council clearlly states. Therefore none can judge pope francis if not the pope himself or his future successor.

Here is the most important basic to return to-the eucharistic Royal Priesthood, what the entire clerical class, the truly good (Bishop Barron an archetype) and the truly bad (Fr. James Martin the archetype, even though he is ignorant that he was awarded by Satan the privilege of leading the charge to destroy the lives and souls of Catholic children) are both adamant is preventing the restoration of the Royal Priesthood, what only the saintly Pope Francis is trying to restore, with the clerical class being blindly adamant in preventing:
Pope Francis’ 1st priority, as it was for his immediate predecessors, the saintly Pope Benedict XVI and St. John Paul the Great, is to sustain what little Unity there is, and build towards a greater Unity WITHOUT generating more disunity, a seemingly impossible task (and please give Pope Francis credit for finding a way to deal with the footloose and fancy free, unknown to themselves, corrupt bishops, cardinals and pastors in Germany on the front lines advancing Satan’s Sexual Liberation Movement).
It became clear Benedict XVI was totally supportive of Francis’ “confusing” strategy to go up against Satan’s Army of Bishops and Cardinals dedicated, in not so subtle ways, to being Satan’s Primary Warriors in his Sexual Liberation Assault against the Church, Satan’s most successful and most widespread assault in all of Church history (made abundantly clear in most every bishop, cardinal and pastor choosing to take Satan’s side in trying to destroy the Holy Spirit’s Sword of Justice he gifted to St. Paul VI to use, his Humane Vitae, what most bishops, cardinals and parish pastors still reject, made clear in their refusal to use it and its miraculous elaboration in John Paul the Great’s saintly explication on what human sexuality means in God’s Plan for us, Theology of the Body.
Now reflect on the fact that STILL over 99% of bishops, cardinals and parish pastors refuse to educate us laity on ANY detail of Satan’s relentless and most successful war ever waged against the Church. And the clerical class, as a whole, are still adamant in refusing to arm us faithful to war against this grand assault through the restoration of Assembly Life, Mystagogy & Spiritual Direction (Royal Priesthood-Christian Brotherhood-Synod on Synodality), what is absolutely required for us laity to prepare to go out, and why there has been no initiative by any cleric (bishop, cardinal, pastor) to prepare us laity to Go Out as Jesus insisted.
And because the clerical class as a whole is close to totally blind to this, regardless how much rhetoric rolls off their tongues in advancing lay formation and new evangelization, they, in fact, are relentlessly engaged in stifling lay formation and the new evangelization, deciding instead to suffocate our lay minds and disable us from action as true evangelizers, refusing to allow us laity to have any voice at all after they destroyed the Royal Priesthood (a true Christian Brotherhood that would allow Laity back into the fold of discernment), the ONLY way Jesus arranged for us laity to have a voice-NOT through a democratic sharing of power, of governance, for that governance is restricted by God to clerics ordained and gifted by the Holy Spirit at ordination to do so, what can only be ordained priests. But there is no Assembly Life (the ONLY phenomenon that allows laity to truly have a voice, as it was in the beginning, utterly destroyed by the clerical class centuries ago. And that speaks all of it).
Here are the synonymous titles: Christian Brotherhood, Royal Priesthood and Synod on Synodality, the ONLY path to the restoration of a true Unity of the Body of Christ, laity and cleric alike. This IS Pope Francis’ singular mission resisted by the clerical class with a vengeance, and this resistance is the singular most powerful act in supporting Satan’s radically divisive way of holding the clerical class captive to politically manufactured narratives of meaning, a radical diminishment of a Way offered to us in every second by the Holy Spirit who is no longer listened to by pastors governing our Archdioceses, all of them held in abeyance just like us faithful laity are held in abeyance by those clerics, having nowhere to go to prepare to Go Out as Jesus insisted, where our personhoods begin to appear, what is literally not possible until the clerical class decides to restore to us laity what they had taken from us many centuries ago, what God had gifted to ALL his children, cleric and lay alike-the Royal Priesthood made up of Assembly Life, Mystagogy and Spiritual Direction, the absolute-complete gift from God that makes possible lay formation and a new evangelization. Absent the Royal Priesthood, we continue to languish. We can’t even remember when we were told to bury our talents in the back yard. That because it most often begins at age 2 or 3. That’s the precise result of having cancelled God’s Great Gift to evangelize every Catholic’s heart.
To be absolutely clear, all us Christians and everyone else in the World have been held captive to Satan's Orchestration of this World. And how successful he has been was made perfectly clear when the entirety of Vatican officials blindly blessed the mission of Fr. James Martin to go out into this World orchestrated by Satan and destroy the souls of Catholic children, him unknowingly the main front-line Catholic warrior in Satan's Army. That he has been blessed in this mission reveals what the end result has been with the clerical cancellation-emasculation of the Royal Priesthood so many centuries ago. It's all coming out in the wash today, and that laundry is dripping filthy grease.
So it is in this sermon from Bishop Barron. Although speaking a fundamental truth of the faith life, in that illumination he also creates absolute cover for Fr. Martina and the entire clerical class complicit in killing off the Royal Priesthood and keeping it buried in its lonely grave, basically implying unintentionally that us clerically abandoned laity don't need any clerical guidance. Forget all that and just open yourselves to God's grace, a Protestant comfort.
The word "addiction" is a word Satan used to replace the word "obsession", an obsession inside a willfulness in opposing God’s will (what we generally refuse to look at, the most unconfessed sin). This use of the word “addiction” in dismissing willful obsession has become a way of turning sinners into helpless victims, what the non-Christian Marcus Aurelius found to be nauseatingly self-defeating, and him not being listened to is what moved Camus to write his Myth of Sisyphus).
I became a street kid at age 8, and at a certain point, at age 11, I consciously chose to reject God’s assistance, speaking that rebellion directly into God’s darkness in the middle of a dark wooded area at the center of an ice pond (no doubt a door into Dante’s Hell) where we were alone together, and he fully honored my totally willful rebellion (I was no victim-it was pure choice), both of us in his all-encompassing Love understanding. with perfect clarity, the fact that it was HE who gave me that radical gift of freedom to choose at the deepest unimaginable level!
That great mystery of freedom speaks perfectly, absent words, the great Mystery of Evil even Christian psychologists unintentionally (in real ignorance) prevent us from discerning. And I eventually came to learn with theological precision from Hans Urs von Balthasar how radical a gift of freedom God did grant to us. And through many years of fully committing to indulging 24/7 an anesthetizing of my existential pains and sufferings, including a 3-year obsession with injecting China White heroin, I refused all 12-step programs as an alternative to doing prison time, always abiding in my rebellious freedom-that rebellion against God as the only way of being totally free in secular terms, what God gifted to me!
But God chose to deliver me into his missionary ways at age 38, after my daughter was born. You see, I knew my fully-aware rebellion against God so thoroughly, I knew simultaneously with absolute existential authority-certainty that I would destroy my daughter inside my rebellion, dragging her down into Satan’s Ice-Chamber for eternity with me, what I had accepted for myself. And that’s when I fell to my knees and begged God to raise my daughter for me through my submission to the ways the Holy Spirit would lovingly reveal to me in every second through his absolute love for my daughter and me. No 12-step program gifts this ultimate Freedom that is accessed ONLY by freely willing to enter into Christ’s Flesh on his Cross and abide there as the saints have done from the beginning.

I’m not going into the question if a Cardinal can correct the pope, I don’t necessarily have an enough informed opinion on this, since e.g. Pope Saint Paul II seems to say no, but I’ll leave that up to you and Lofton to discuss. Something I‘d like to comment on is your comparison with laypeople criticizing a Cardinal. Any cardinal is not the superior of all lay people. You should get a bit into the section of the CIC about cardinals, unless they are specifically authorized by the pope according to to Can 358, they have no superiority over any layperson. That might be different if they are Bishops of a Diocese, but I’m pretty sure Burke isn’t my Bishop. I’m not an expert in Canon Law, I had it for a semester at university, but this part of your video was not very well thought out or researched.
I’m just a Catholic (always was and always will be) and I think the whole rad-trad vs popesplainer discussion is stupid, because it’s not well meaning anymore (I’m more pints with aquinas than taylor marshal or michael lofton), but I think you should be careful to not venture too deep into these internal wars. I love your content, your philosophical stuff is very well thought out, it would be a shame if we’d talk more about church politics than Jesus Christ or the beauty of Christian philosophy.

of him. The pope has absolutely no direct effect on my daily life; I just go along with things as I always have done. We were
better off as Catholics when we went along practicing our Faith and the pope WAS NOT daily fodder for RUclips addicts!!!

Pope Benedict XVI was a very calm and quiet papacy, mayhaps the church needs a more jolt to its system.

I think, Brian, that an example would help here when you say "popes have been corrected". Short answer - there is no example in Church history of a pope's formal teaching (not personal opinions or off the cuff stuff) being corrected.

The Pope is the servant of the Church - explicitly. The Pope is the servant of the Church. What does that suggest about everyone else's role? The Pope at the very possible least, *has* to listen to the rest of the Church.

The Apostle Paul had a sharp conflict with Barnabas over Mark. And it was over Marks actions. Paul sharply brought to task Peter over his actions over gentiles. The problem with some decisions of the church is there is some that are in opposite teachings of what Jesus himself taught. And now we see that again through his support of the German synod. I think, in my opinion, the vatican has lost touch with the teachings of Jesus.

The pope is not the head of the church. Christ is the head of the church. Christ may have appointed leaders within the church, he even may have appointed Peter to lead the church, just as he appointed kings in the Old Testament. But those leaders are not infallible. I don’t think Catholic doctrine even asserts that popes are infallible, except in very limited circumstances. I am an Anglican, so I could be wrong about that. I think it is very dangerous to say that any human person is above correction. I also think it is a kind of magical thinking to believe that a particular leader cannot make bad doctrinal decisions. The promise of God was that the church would prevail, but that does not mean that no errors would be made along the way.

Yet… Did not address the 2nd form of punishment correction (both unjust, unexplained and non-canonical) by Pope Francis on Cardinal Burke!?!??
As the title suggests… only concerned about Cardinal up to Pope. However, that is the supposed reason for the reactionary punishment by the Pope upon the Cardinal… for criticizing the Pope.

If a Pope forces us to either submit to the Deposit of Faith or submit to the Supreme Pontiff in opposition to the Deposit of Faith, then my choice is clear. Not anyones faults (except the Papacy) that the lay faithful are being forced to make that decision.

I think people are conflating "infallibility" with "impeccabilty". Only God is impeccable (incapable of error).
As most Catholics know, infallibility is extremely limited in Papal teachings. If a Pope's teachings run even *slightly* counter to the de Fide (Perennial Magisterial Teachings) beliefs, it cannot be considered de Fide, and certainly not infallible, therefore not worthy of belief. He must then reconsider the problematic wording and make the correction needed in order for his document, or Teaching, to be considered "infallible".
In NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES is he considered infallible! He is, after all, just a human! The Holy Spirit only protects THE CHURCH from a Pope trying to *FORMALLY* teach error by changing dogma or doctrine. Sometimes, that protection comes in the form of swift death at God's hands. The Holy Spirit does NOT "guide" the Pope! That is not a de Fide teaching...ever!

I’m a big fan of Cardinal Burke and I would further say politics have no place in the church. What we are watching unfold is the consequences of a pope who is on a political agenda. We really do need to pray for all involved and mostly the Catholic Church. God will use this to better the church but things may get messy before that happens. Ecclesiastes 7: Wisdom: Better to accompany the sorrowful over the prideful…. Better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool. This applies to myself as well. I aim to put myself around the wise and not be dubiously praised by individuals that are not seeking the ultimate goal: heaven.

They actually claim that it is a case of heresy that the cardinal was accusing him of. I don’t take it that way. I think he was saying that that’s what it sounds like or that’s how we can be portrayed and even if he did, I’m sure it was in Charity one RUclipsr that comes to mind actually seems to be very happy when Cardinals or priests are removed. That being said, I don’t know if it’s just lack of confidence or maybe too much confidence just from studying on the surface or some other issues that might be happening.. even if his judgments were correct on the bishops or priests, we are supposed to be praying for them if they’re removed and are of error and wishing them to come back, we need all the priests bishops and cardinals that we have plus some. I actually love cardinal Burke and I disagree with a particular RUclipsrs way of handling this. but I am also getting sick of the people that are right in their interpretations, but gloat we are supposed to approach everything with a sense of humility, and when I first came to the church and saw all of this me coming back after a very long time I would say almost 20 years it does break my heart. I thank you for your work crying because you always seem to put a smile. on my face because I know that you really love what you do and I believe you have a great love for the church and her members as well. Thank you.. no more RUclips bickering no more speaking against priests and Cardinals. It just seems like a whole bunch of backbiting and as far as the problems in the church we do need to know what is going on, but it should never be so much that it discourages us sometimes people should just concentrate on apologetics, because that’s what their channels used to be about and this goes for both sides of the aisle.

Dear Brian, I'm not sure whether the Cardinals are our superiors. My superior is the parish priest, and above him is the local bishop, and above him is the Pope. But is the bishop of a city in France, where I don't live, my superior? This isn't clear, maybe yes, maybe no. Cardinals are usually put in charge of some work, and the people involved in that work are subject to them. But am I?
Also I would like to listen to Michael Lofton's rebuttal of your video, but by speaking for 15 minutes you have caused him to post 105 minutes of rebuttal. It's hard for me to justify this much time. Perhaps you could be more precise so ML wouldn't need so much time. regards Michael

Its easy to say things that are wrong. You just have to say them. Correcting them takes time. You have to identify the mistakes, explain why they're wrong, point out the factual errors and logical fallacies, and then after all that, explain the true account. Correcting errors is a lot lengthier process than making them.

Those with apostolic authority are our ecclesial superiors. I don't see any way around that. Mystici Corporis Christi (quoting Gregory the Great) affirms that bishops are the "principal parts of the members of the Lord" and Q. 999 of the Baltimore Catechism says that we owe them respect by virtue of the dignity of their office and the service they provide.
