Oh bloody hell.. came here from the Mistake vid. This is absolutely amazing. Your work brought tears to my eyes, such a beautiful construct. Thank you.
Such a ballsy move to cover such a famous song. I mean, essentially, the whole world knows and loves this song, and the whole world, while listening to this song are waiting for the drum fill, sorry, I should say, The Drum Fill...lol. I love how you honored the original, and made it your own, a difficult thing to do. Awesome, just awesome.
Well done guys. Great cover indeed, never thought anyone would ever. I also the RUclips you did where you give background to the song Phil Collins going solo. Excellent work!
This is a different take on the original and, for me, is all the better for not becoming some kind of hip hop hi-jack. The simplicity adds to the song and the vocal is what really makes it stand out.
Coming from the "This Mistake Made Phil Collins a GENIUS" video, and guys, this is really awesome!! Those Taiko drums not even work good, you intrumentalized them superbly, and while you perfectly maintained the sould of the song, you gave it it's own twist and vibe. Reallly a joy to listen to and feel. Thanks!
@@susansouthard 100% same reason and as she quoted the meme in that video "One does not simply cover Phil Collins" but they did it, I can't believe how amazing this sounds. I actually thought this was impossible, such an iconic sound.
As a Genesis fan since the early 70s and huge fan of Peter and Phil, I have to say this version is really fantastic. It must’ve been a daunting task to cover such an iconic song particularly because it has, “That Drum Fill.“ The vocals and harmonies are just beautiful, your drum sound is different enough to make it your own while still keeping to the original in certain regards - not an easy task.
What an amazing fullness of a classic Phil Collins song that is only covered by two people. Phenomenal vocalist and a drummer that nails "That drum fill". Keep the music coming.
What a fantastic production! I'm now retired and have time to spend exploring RUclips and the sounds of my youth....and discovering much more in the process! In the Air Tonight was a very special track for me. When it was released my wife and I who were very much in love were expecting our first child and as the due date passed we deliberately tried tempting fate to encourage the arrival of this baby. Living in the north of England we would take off in the car to some remote places high in the hills or moors with this soundtrack in the car. None of this was necessary as said child arrived in his own time a couple of weeks later as he finally was 'in the air tonight'. That song will forever be associated with his imminent arrival. I'm also pleased to say he is even more of a music buff than I am and is now 43 years old. Thanks Phil, Genesis and now NoRadio....
I’m about as far as one can possibly get from a music critic. I actually have the original…how do I say this without being morbid? It’s on my “funeral playlist” and there is no particular reason for it except that it’s certainly one of my favorite recordings/songs of my life and it has nothing to do with the subject matter or when/where it will be played or anything other than I simply love how…as your lead singer in a previous video explained so well- it’s a song that, while stuck in traffic on the way to a stressful business meeting (or whatever) can take the listener to a different place, it’s one of the rare songs that just evokes strong emotions and those of us who aren’t particularly musically inclined at all have no idea why or how, it simply works, that’s just what it does. Your version is simply stunning. I may not replace the original on my special playlist or anything, but the fact that it’s even a consideration rolling around in my head is probably saying enough. This is the same lyrics, it’s very similar in a number of ways yet-it’s just different. It is more…I’m looking for words…less haunting, less angry, more evoking of beauty and warmth and…well, like your lead singer, it’s simply beautiful. (That was written on purpose in my best non-creeper, not weirdo stalker, not nefarious, genuinely platonically observant tone.) “It,” meaning the beauty of the sound and song and vocalist…It’s simply one of those things that…well, it IS. It just is. So well done. You got my attention while watching another video- RUclips does an incredibly good (talk about creepy) job of finding videos that I didn’t even search for, stuff I had no interest in searching for, finding or watching- they are able to find about three different videos that are plopped to the right of whatever it is I’m watching on my iPad screen- their busy little ai bot algorithms must have me and millions of others pegged pretty well to know that there is a (insert number) percentage chance that I’ll watch one of their “curated” (cough) choices- your video that provides an explanation of a part of this song being an accident of some kind was interesting enough for me to have a look, and while the premise, the title is most certainly designed to entice me to click on it and watch, you delivered a good enough story that I watched the whole thing. I finished it because you weaved a fascinating (and real) story together, you managed to get around to, “by the way, we cover this and here’s the gal who is my vocalist,” and even managed to insert a little of her personality and reasoning/planning. BAM, I’m here. Likely only one in a long line of others. Oh- I’m also now a fan. Well done all the way around. To wrap this up, you two did a fantastic job on an iconic song that demands something special if you’re going to fool around with it. You two not only pulled it off, but rather than use American Idol verbiage (make it your own), you guys pulled off another version that stands on it’s own and emotes completely different emotional qualities than the original. Had you two been first, you guys would be household names. Thank you, you are both memorable and appreciated. Sorry…one last thought. Your day will come. Keep at it, that gal’s clear creativity is going to produce something special if she’ll allow herself to fail, to perhaps power through disappointment and discouragement and maybe even rejection. From my seat, she has the creative ability to produce something magical/original and great- but only if she will keep at it and let you (and maybe others) help her to get there.
Hi Dimitri and Marissa. I just watched your breakdown and journey through Phil Collin's Genesis years and the creation of In the Air Tonight, saw a snippet of your cover, and had to track it down and watch it. I knew nothing about either of your YT channels until the algorithm kicked in and presented me with it. That said, I am beyond words that I have missed out on your music after all these years. The only ones I have heard so far are this and Sirocco, and with that, I am hooked. Listening to this (and Sirocco) brought tears to my eyes (in a good way). Your talents are beyond words and are expressed in your music in a way that I am drawn to and unable to explain. My prayer for you and Marissa is that your sounds may continue to find a place in this world -- you have a new subscriber and look forward to your next musical creation.
Yup. Same here. Mad respect for Dimitri for going deep into Genesis lore (I've been a fan for decades). And, yeah, I think he did "the drum fill" proud.
Wow. Found this by accident...SO good! How do you cover Phil Collins...AND make it different and unique and your own - but nail it! Simplicity in the arrangement, but THOSE DRUMS, the impact of her voice having...whatever that magic is...wow.
Absolutely GREAT - The song is of course, second to none and now you young people interpreted it in a very wonderful new way. I hope Phil Collins himself sees your video - Thank you so much !
Everyone goes on about the iconic drum fill, but you have shown that there is so much more depth to it. The use of a dark instrumental arrangement highlights the superb vocal prowess on display, all the coupled to some very clever production adds an new dimension to the piece building tension right up to the point of release using Taiko drums is just sheer and utter magic. Thank you so much for this.
Like some singer on The Voice believing they can sing Whitney Houston - Ahh, No, You Can't... This is a song of that same musical caliber. But you did it and you.... NAILED IT!!! Beautiful!!
What a great job of a cover of an iconic original song. As an "older" Genesis and Phil Collins fan who remembers when the original version came out, you did such a wonderful job of making it your own. The vocals and the drum fill are superb!
Wow! This is bringing my favourite song to a contemporary and exquisite sound, well done! Goosebumps and watery eyes after bringing memories when I purchased that record after watching that memorable episode of Miami Vice. It’s great to see new generations honouring such a wonderful music with impressive taste and quality.
Speaking as a Gensis fan since The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, I freakin' loved this. The vocals and drums were amazing. Really well done. Thanks for putting a tear in this old man's eye.
I wrote another review a bit ago, then listened to the song one more time having really thought about it. And I see something else now. This song could and should be the anthem of a generation. It's sort of the perfect song for Gen-X, Millenials, Gen-Z, and the rest. It's a rage-filled song at untold injustices, and it says, "I've been waiting for this moment all my life"...but nothing happens. It's that same angst we all feel that we all know we're at a critical moment in history, faced with overwhelming evil, overwhelming odds, and we're finally being placed into the moment where we CAN and must act, but we don't know what to do. Or parents' and grandparents' stood up against the evils of their time, and the system killed Kennedy, Malcolm, Martin, Bobby, and so many more. In this sense, it's a perfect cover of this song. In the 80s, Phil stood against and sang against corrupt governments, religions, relationships, and so much more. But the subsequent generations have only mimicked the rage felt by those who lived through it without ever seeking to understand. Remember, Phil's generation saw the world recovering from WWII, and watched the world fall into debauchery and materialism. We already live in that world and don't fully understand what was lost. In my other review I said something like, or implied, that this cover is technically perfect but misses the soul of the song. But maybe that's the point? Our generations know the technical problems facing us and how to navigate the system, but we miss the soul of the world. What do you think?
Always knew I liked this song, but until I saw Dimitris explainer video and then heard this version I never knew why . Thanks guys even at y0 I live and learn

This is a spectacular cover version. I'm generally not a huge fan of covers, but your version ticks two boxes of importance. 1. Does justice to the original, and 2. It stands as a unique piece of music. PS: I have that original LP in storage. :)
Damn that was nice… well done to both of you ; I really enjoyed the vocal clarity, her voice is clear & very very pleasing to the ear & the drums… yes, yes, yes
Marissa is absolutely stunning in this performance. Beautifully sung and beautiful. What a track. Super video. The drum track is huge and comes in like a nuclear explosion like one would hope. Kudos to all.
I'm not the biggest fan of covers, but this is beautifully done. The tension, the sweet poison in the vocal harmony, the big burst at the climax: perfect!
This is a Excellent cover of Phil's song... I think he would approve... I love it.. I'm a drummer to... and I was in the UK when this song made it to Number 1 on The Top of the Pop's on BBC1
Wow, where do I start? First of all (the "voice") was amazing [enough said] amazing sums it up. The sensual tone just seated me for the entire ride. Yes, this sound, the music, and her voice took me on a ride of enjoyment. Know for the famous drum beat, was amazing. If I could ever apply less is more, with you two (2) then the saying would apply. You both did not need a full band the sound and mix of tones meet the elements needed. Well done. Respectfully.
WOW! i love your entrancing vocals! one does not simply _cover Phil Collins_ supreme effort must have been required here, and it paid off. you really hit a home run. this is an epic performance.
To say that "You Nailed It" would be such an understatement. You captured both the sound and the emotions behind the music. Gave it just a little twist to make it your own. Then slammed it home with your amazing vocals. Finally, the over the top editing and mixing brought everything to a climax, leaving the listener breathless... and wanting more. I am looking forward to hearing more from the two of you.
Just wonderful. Thank you both !!! Not sure how the RUclips algorithm got me here but I’m grateful (Even Google can’t always hide the truth and quality) Just Great!
Very respectful yet personal cover that leans deep into the range of emotions of the various sections and communicates the story so well... And the Taiko drums followed by the beautiful multi-tracked harmonies were a great choice to tackle that iconic moment. Well done
Wow! So beautiful! Love Marissa’s vocals and Dimitri’s taiko drumming. Makes me imagine what it might be like on a full set of taiko’s, including a 6 ft one, and with the taiko movements. Your music and the thought makes my heart swell with gratitude at how beautiful it is.
Very nice version. As an old Genesis head, since their first album, I think Phil's version is hard to beat (No pun intended) but you certainly gave him a run for his money. An alternative would be the dedicated In Session Audio Taiko Creator. ✌✌
I actually wore out my "Face Value" cassette. Mostly because I was rewinding to play "In the Air Tonight" over and over. This song is connected to so many of my hught school memories, and y'all have done the perfect cover. It still has the feel of the original but the NoRadion personality comes through at the same time. Perfect choice for The Drum Fill.
Well done y'all!! 🙌 and yes... the Phil.. er.. um fill was perfect! 🥁
well done this should be 100mil views wow!! just wow!!!

Brilliant cover. Your hard work paid off. You’ve both made it your own. Came across this thanks to your breakdown video of Phil’s song.
